These guys are great musicians, and this is an amazing tune. I’ve listened to it three times in a row. The drummer kills it.

Please don’t. There have been some very good TED talks about Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. Stories that would not have otherwise gotten international attention if not for this venue.

Continuing on the GG McCarthy accusations from downstairs, I get so frustrated with GG lecturing everyone about journalism. He has absolutely no training as a journalist, nor any education in the history of the craft.

GG is not the person to be lecturing about what a *real* journalist would do.

One of the ways Ted lost me was bowing to public pressure to accept certain speakers, address specific topics or post specific speeches. Part of what I liked about it was at first they weren’t trying to be popular or pander to preexisting groups. It was just interesting new ideas.

coydogs and coyotes

Wasn’t it like one particular species of coyote that would breed with one specific breed of wolf?

Regardless, the result of this experiment concluded that northwestern gray wolves, much like the eastern wolves, red wolves, Mexican wolves, and domestic dogs, are indeed capable of hybridizing with coyotes. Although this hybridization was brought out through artificial insemination due to the gray wolves’ natural hostility towards coyotes which would have caused difficulties in attempting to naturally breed the two rival species together.

The NOVA (Nature?) I saw on them was cool.

Kenny Rogers, singing quietly in the background.

One of my favorite Kenny Rogers songs is “Reuben James”:

Reuben James
In my song you’ll live again
And the phrases that I rhyme
Are just the footsteps out of time
From the time when I knew you
Reuben James

Reuben James, all the folks around Madison County
Cussed your name
You’re just a no-account, sharecropping colored man
Who’d steal anything he can
And everybody laid the blame on Reuben James

CHORUS:
Reuben James, for you still walk the furrowed fields of my mind
Faded shirt, your weathered brow
Your caloused hands upon the plow
I loved you then and I love you now, Reuben James

Flora Grey, the gossip of Madison County died with child
And although your skin was black
You were the one that didn’t turn your back
On the hungry white child with no name Reuben James

Reuben James, with your mind on my soul
And a Bible in your right hand
You said turn the other cheek
For there’s a better world awaiting for the meek
In my mind these words remain from Reuben James

Reuben James one dark cloudy day they brought you from the field
Unto your lonely pinebox came
Just a preacher and me in the rain
Just to sing one last refrain for Reuben James

You know, as often as that bullshit talking point is repeated, you’d think they’d have multiple studies they could cite showing that raising the minimum wage leads to job loss or simply fewer people hired. But yet, every study that has been done has shown the exact opposite, that raising the minimum wage leads to job growth as companies hire more people to address the demand caused by millions of Americans having more disposable income.

90 StephenMeansMe  Tue, Mar 18, 2014 6:43:00pm

I don’t think “Lady” is the crazy lady’s first name… the video from the Austin Chronicle article mentions her being a “Knight of Justice,” which seems to be a British noble organization.

Youtube Video

The modern re-foundation of the Order, a charitable institution, dates back to the 19th century. The former Grand Master H.E. Dr. Sir Sydney Lawrence († 1988, London), Knight Grand Cross of Justice, developed the Order of the Knights of Justice considerably after World War II and brought the Order in a condition to be suitable for the Third Millennium. The current Grand Master of the Order is H.E. Prof. Dr. Paul A. Zammit-Lewis, former Maltese Consul General, member of O.S.J. Malta and Knight Grand Cross of Justice. A Royal Protectorate and Recognition has been given by several Royal Houses in Europe.

The Chivalric Order of the Faithful Knights of Justice was originated as a Christian Militia placed under the protection of King Edward, Saint George and Saint Michael the Archangel, to protect the pilgrims and supported the crusade. The principal duty of the Knights of Justice is the diffusion of Christian values, to help the needy and the oppressed, and through the Knights and Dames, help the poor and the sick. Today the Order doesn’t look after military traditions any more and the Order operates to the codes of peace and moral ethics consistent with their own principles and beliefs. The aim of the Order is to promote and maintain the principles of Chivalry, and to support the Order’s ethics for living in world peace and human harmony.

Well, duh! It’s the same as how the Union movement that began in the 20’s and 30’s prevented the expansion of the middle class after World War 2, how food stamps lead to starvation, and how clothing induces hypothermia.

True facts!

I don’t think “Lady” is the crazy lady’s first name… the video from the Austin Chronicle article mentions her being a “Knight of Justice,” which seems to be a British noble organization.

; 1988, London), Knight Grand Cross of Justice, developed the Order of the Knights of Justice considerably after World War II and brought the Order in a condition to be suitable for the Third Millennium.

So, what, wannabe Hospitallers?

Apparently, raising the minimum wage will cause prices to increase 10 fold, mass layoffs, and every minimum wage worker will be replaced by soulless automatons, leading to the eventual destruction of humanity in the robot holocaust.

Because corporations can punish us that way for forcing the law—increase in minimum wage.

It has nothing to do with economics and everything to do with power.

The other canard

“Sure the taxes were high in the 50s but no one really paid them.”

Nobody really pays them now, so what’s the argument against raising them? Oh right, somebody might actually have to start paying more than a pittance into the collection plate and that is simply not done, my good man!
