Glenn Beck Thinks His Network Is Led by “A Higher Power”

Wingnuts • Views: 20,304

If by “higher power” you mean a mental institution, then yes, yes you are.

With every passing day it becomes more and more obvious that Glenn Beck is willfully ignorant and will continue to repeat things on air that have already been debunked because he simply will not allow the truth to get in the way of his agenda.

As we noted just the other day, Beck has been claiming that the world was shocked to recently learn that, back during the 2008 economic crisis, Russia approached China about the possibility of selling off massive amounts of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac securities in order to create even more chaos. Beck claimed that if people simply watched the programming on his network, they would have known this fact a whole eight months ago.

Last night, he made this same point again, only now adding that his staff “is being led by a higher power” that is allowing them to always be well ahead of the rest of the news media.

Of course, as we pointed out last time, this particular piece of information had been known for years because former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson revealed it in the book he published back in 2010

I like Beck’s new Colonel Sanders look. Maybe an endorsement deal with KFC is in the works.

Then again, there’s the brown shirt and tie with patches. Beck’s latest acquisition of Nazi memorabilia?

No Mr. Beck. It is being led by low IQ conspiracy theorists who are really really easy to manipulate with fear and insane conspiracy theories.

He asks often why people lump in him with Alex Jones. Well Glenn. I know it can be a pain in the ass but listen to yourself speak some time. Hell, I’d say Beck may be even more crazy than Jones given his delusions of grandeur about himself. Jones just thinks crazy shit about other people. Beck thinks crazy shit about other people and thinks he’s the one to save us.

[…]

“When Laura, Jeremy and I first decided
that we were going to form this organization - even before we talked to Pierre and once we did - we put as literally one of top goals that we were going to be more diverse than every other media organization of similar size and stature,” Greenwald says.

The first wave of hires didn’t reflect this desire, Greenwald acknowledges. The Intercept ended up launching a few months earlier than originally intended - Greenwald and company wanted to get more reporting on those NSA documents out there - before it was fully staffed, and the staff it did have happened to be mostly white men.

“I was so disappointed, and I think - I know that Laura and Jeremy were, too — that at launch we just did not have the diversity that we intended to have and that we will have, because I felt like that was a really important opportunity to send the opposite message,” Greenwald says. “Ideally we would’ve launched, in a perfect world, in like May or June and been vastly more diverse. But we will be, and shortly.”

[…]

“The reality is with small efforts you can put together a top-notch staff that’s diverse,” Greenwald says. “If all you’re going to do is say, ‘I’m looking at the New York Times and the Washington Post and AP and the Wall Street Journal and NBC,’ you’re going to end up thinking, oh my god, there’s a dearth of good women national security reporters because all those places are predominantly male.”

[…]

Emphasis added.

If the effort needed is small, the part about not having enough time is bullshit, or the part about ‘literally one of top goals’ is bullshit. Or it’s all bullshit.

They haven’t tried repealing the 13th amendment yet. And I’m not sure if I can say that sarcastically since while I doubt none of them personally would support slavery, they probably naively believe that slavery not being illegal wouldn’t result in slavery re-occuring since it already does occur with its outlawing.

What do you say to people who make the argument that legalizing drugs will increase usage?

First thing I ask them is, “If it’s legal tomorrow, what drug are you going to use? Cocaine, heroin, meth?” Bottom line is, no one ever says, “Yeah, I can’t wait to go try meth.” Drugs are so easy to get that anyone who wants to use them can get them already. Even in prison you can get them. In all of America, there is not one drug-free prison. If you can’t keep drugs out of a prison, how are you going to keep drugs out of a free society?

We meandered for the next several hours as I interviewed him about the drug war that he helped to wage and now blames for the ruination of the city he once called home. As the executive director of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP), Franklin—along with 3,500 other former cops, judges, and district attorneys—is on a crusade to make all drugs legal.

Sorry my friend, must disagree. Last study on home schooling I found showed better test scores than public schools.

Not in my town it doesn’t. Probably not in a lot of others. See LAUSD. If I had a kid, he or she would be home schooled rather than LAUSD if it were legal. they say it is not here.

Written by a Male Survivor of Sexual Assault:

It is incredibly hard to report sexual assault.
The community often reacts: “What did he do to her that she would want to get back at him like this?” This assumes the victim is out for revenge. In fact, reporting an assault is a terrible strategy for vengeance, because victims are sometimes—I’d say usually—viciously blamed. When I started talking about my assault, many friends didn’t get it, for reasons I’ll explain in a moment. I was furthermore humiliated Internet-wide after the New York Post published mostly bogus articles about my case. It turned out the church that employed my assailant had its lawyer contact the Post’s lawyer. Afterward, a clarification that removed culpability from the church was appended to the articles. This is exactly the kind of revictimization survivors can experience.

Yes, victims can feel vengeful. They have every right to that feeling. But every single survivor I’ve met ultimately seems to have made her report in the interests of justice, not necessarily to hurt the assailant, but to prevent him or her from hurting others. That takes massive courage.

So one of the questions raised by the Hobby Lobby case is whether sex equality and reproductive justice are second-class rights. Should sexual-based justice or gender-based justice enjoy the same constitutional status as racial-based justice, or do they, well, enjoy a kind of second-class status when compared with racial equality or free exercise of religion?

Voting for a women because she is a woman is as bad as voting for a Republican because of party loyalty.

It’s a sign of how well vaccinations work. We have generations of people who don’t remember anyone ever having to be quarantined, thus they think it is a violation of their rights.

They can think that, but it shouldn’t stop the government. To be clear for those any Libertarians who might read this, even Ayn Rand supported disease quarantines. The logic being that due to the deadliness of some epidemic diseases and that collective action is the only way to fight them, Objectivism would have to set aside in this case.

Ayn Rand was fanatical, but unlike some of her modern day followers she wasn’t foolish enough to believe that politics would protect you from a virus.

You guys remember reading about that GOPer here in Virginia who said he felt Downs Syndrome was God’s punishment for abortion. Yep, he’s running because the other lunatic who said that he didn’t know how spousal rape could happen decided not to run. I mean you’re going to find fringe nuts whereever you go in politics but for me it seems like the GOP has a habit of fostering an environment where you can believe shit like this and succeed. By the way both these guys Dick Black (Mr. Spousal Rape is impossible) and Bob Marshall (Mr. Downs Syndrome is God’s punishemt) are currently elected official. not quite, it’s more about power and control —elite priviledge being watered down as more and more “groups” claim equality.

There’s a couple paragraphs in American Nations: A History of the Eleven Rival Regional Cultures of North America on the Southern coalition of the late 20th/early 21st century (Deep South, Tidewater, Appalachia) that nails this exactly… but I can’t find the text to c&p.

DIRIGIBLE DRONES!!!

Those already exist:

UK company Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) expects the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to test its HAV 304 hybrid airship as a potential airborne surveillance platform from May 2015, following the completion of in-country flight trials that are set to begin at the end of this year, a company official told IHS Jane’s on 28 February.

Speaking at the first public unveiling of the HAV 304 since it was returned to the company by the US Department of Defense (DoD) in 2013, HAV Technical Manager Andy Barton said that the company has been continuing discussions with the MoD with regard to utilising the hybrid airship as a wide-area surveillance (WAS) platform for counter-piracy operations off the Horn of Africa, and that it anticipates MoD-sponsored testing to take place once the initial UK flight trials have been completed in April 2015.

“With [Civil Aviation Authority] CAA flight trials set to take place from the end of [2014] through to April 2015, the logical next step would be for the MoD to then trial surveillance kit [on the HAV 304]. We are taking the vehicle back to North America [to demonstrate to the commercial sector] in October [2015], so ideally it would need to be before then,” he said.

HAV has already flown the HAV 304 once before, on 7 August 2012, as part of the US DoD’s Long Endurance Multi-intelligence Vehicle (LEMV) programme for the US Army. Budget constraints forced the DoD to cancel LEMV in February 2013, and the UK company brought back its aircraft for USD301,000 (just 0.1% of the USD300 million which the DoD had already invested in development). With the UK government having awarded HAV a GBP2.5 million (USD4.2 million) technology grant (which the company has matched), the HAV 304 has been reassembled in one of the two giant airship hangars in Cardington, Bedforshire, with a view to offering it and subsequent models to the commercial and military sectors.

You’re assuming he’s ever been in a sobriety program. I’d wager not. Same for Limbaugh. An addict without treatment (beyond detox in some fancy rich person’s rehab) isn’t truly sober, hence the term “dry drunk”. Someone working steps in any program (AA and NA aren’t the only way to go) shows remorse for who they’ve hurt and doesn’t go out of their way to do more damage. These guys relish the amount of hurt they cause, that they’re getting rich off it is just a really nice bonus.

244 Gus  Mar 20, 2014 12:51:05pm

It’s a douchey bill but what it does is affect National Monuments and not National Parks. It would, in theory, require a congressional vote for National Monuments. Has nothing to do with National Parks. It also doesn’t stop the creation of National Parks.

Ensuring Public Involvement in the Creation of National Monuments Act - Amends the Antiquities Act of 1906 to subject national monument declarations by the President to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA).

Prohibits: (1) the President from making more than one such declaration in a state during any presidential four-year term of office without an express Act of Congress, or (2) such a declaration from including private property without the informed written consent of the affected private property owner.

Requires such a declaration: (1) to be considered a major federal action under NEPA if it affects more than 5,000 acres; (2) to be categorically excluded under NEPA and to expire three years after the date of the declaration (unless specifically designated as a monument by federal law) if it affects 5,000 acres or less; and (3) to be followed by a feasibility study that includes an estimate of the costs associated with managing the monument in perpetuity, including any loss of federal and state revenue.

Old ammo, maybe. The T-72 has no effective ammunition compartmentalization, with means if it suffers an fire that reaches even one round of main gun ammo, all the main gun ammo is likely to detonate. Sometimes not all at once, in which case the tank just burn out, as seems to be happening here. In extreme cases, the ammo fire sets off all 22 rounds in the auto-loader cassette under the turret floor and once and blows the turret off of the tank. An example from Syria:

Exactly. Most modern tanks place the ammo in a bustle behind the turret, but Russia has stuck with the helf-hemispherical turrets it has favored since the T-54/T-55, and they cannot support such an addition.

That said, the T-72s in use by Ukraine are a good deal more advanced than those used by Iraq in 1991. They have better armor, better fire controls, and a more powerful engine. but if they are penetrated they are still vulnerable as all get out to ammo fires.

Actually, most modern tanks put ammo in a few places, one of which is the bustle at the back of the turret and another is in the fighting compartment. How much goes where depends on design.

The M1A1 puts 44 in there. There are three stored in front of the loader’s station, and eight stored in the hull. (Turn the turret to the front, open the access panel, pull the bullets.

the Leopard 2 puts 15 in a ‘bustle’ behind the loader. Another 27 sit in the forward hull to the right of the driver.

the Challenger 2 uses two-part ammo. The charges and HESH projectiles are all in the fighting compartment. The bustle gets the ‘long’ projectiles such as APFSDS.

The major advantage of hemispherical turrets is that it’s hard to get zero-angle impact on it. That increases survivability.

That works unless the tank has its hatches closed, in which cases molotovs don’t work well against a T-72, since their NBC system is normally able to keep the fire from spilling into the fuel system.

Unlike T-54/T-55s, all T-72s and T-80s mount effective NPC protection. The systems are integral to the design.

Please note that the ThinkProgress article does NOT say the GOP bill stops the creation of national parks. Here’s exactly what it says: House to Vote on Controversial ‘No More National Parks’ Policy | ThinkProgress

Coupled with the ongoing freeze on new parks and public lands bills, a vote next week to block the President’s creation of new monuments and park units would represent the endorsement of a de facto “No More National Parks” policy in the U.S. House of Representatives. Although members of the House could be casting controversial votes next week against new monuments and parks, H.R. 1459 is not expected to be considered by or passed in the Senate. The President would also be likely to veto such a bill.

Crew psychology and obscuring vision devices still makes them very useful. If you can’t see the other guy who has an explosive grenade for the fuel tank or the final drive sprocket? Combine that with an urban situation and you have tanks at their most vulnerable unless you have very well trained infantry with mortar support on call.

So far we’ve yet to see the relative training of the two sides though I’m giving the Ukrainians high marks for not being goaded into stupid mistakes that give Moscow pretext.

i would like an estimate of the cost of cuts in the capital gains tax ‘in perpetuity’

this is a lot like the bogus “unfunded liability” numbers which people don’t realize are about estimated shortfall over the next 75 years or more

While literally true, psychology’s a different matter. If your tank catches fire and the fire suppression system doesn’t put it out then staying with the tank is usually bad. So if you toss a ‘sticky’ molotov on, say, the driver’s hatch then there are ok odds that he’s going to bail.

Right, anyhow my point is that the NRA is acting like guns are no more dangerous than doctors. Well we do regulate who can become a doctor and if we feel a doctor has either misdiagnosed or mishandled the medical case of a loved, we can sue them. So I’m not seeing their point here. And again a doctor is in the sole business of healing. A gun’s sole purpose is to harm. There’s a reason why people own them for protection, hunting, etc. It’s not my thing but to equate deaths due to medical error with guns is cowardly and dishonest of them.

347 Political Atheist  Mar 20, 2014 1:44:02pm

re: #329 HappyWarrior

Oh and we regulate doctors and doctors can be sued for negligence too so I am failing to see what the National Rifles and other guns should be given more concern than humanity Association is trying to get at here. It’s the same crap tactic when they claim cars are more dangerous than guns. We regulate automobiles and doctors. The NRA wants little to zero regulation of guns.

That works if the MBTs are unmanned. The fuel system does have cutoffs to seal off external tanks if they catch fire. If anyone is in the tank that crewman will activate the cutoff, but if no one is in the tank the tactic might work.

ffs. Sorry, but there’s a bit of misconception in there.

The extended range tanks on the Russian series tanks are distractions. The Russians designed the concept at the end of WWII, and were very familiar with the capabilities of both irregulars and tanks. In this case, the external tanks can be jettisoned, and the fuel lines are built with cut-outs for just this sort of problem. Yes, you’d have 55/100/300 gallons of diesel fuel burning in the road, but the tank would be fine.

If it’s parked and you can walk up to it, the most vulnerable location is the turret hatch - either that of the commander or the loader (unless it’s an autoload system). If it’s open put something down the hatch - molotov, grenade, whatever so long as it does damage.

If it’s closed, you need to either play head games with the crew or you have to hit it in the vulnerable spots. For infantry who can get close (which is the problem with armor in urban fights) the two ideal spots are the track and the rear deck. Bust the track and the tank becomes a pillbox - usually poorly situated. The armor over the rear deck is inevitably the thinnest and something important is under it. What depends on the tank in discussion (T-80 is the engine), but it’s always important. The thing is heavy infantry weapons can get through that armor on pretty much every MBT in existence.

Even if you only get the track pads (rubber normally) to burn you may get a mobility kill, at least until that section of track is replaced.

I think the biggest threat to the second amendment is the possibility that continual offensiveness from the NRA et al. creates support for repealing the amendment via blowback.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if this possibility has been noted by the NRA as a reason to continue being offensive.

The rubber pads in some tracks are ‘road pads’. Their purpose is to do less damage to asphalt roads. The individual links - the key part of the track - are metal. If you can get the rubber burning it won’t be a mobility kill. Odds are that the crew won’t even notice it. If the tank is moving at all there’s a decent chance a pad on fire will get smothered as it goes against the ground.

The belt is a chain of metal plates. Each is linked together with a hinge pin. In the M1 series this link is about as long as the average man’s forearm and about as thick around as a roll of quarters. It is one of the least fun activities I know to have to break and reconnect track.

I know because I got to do it when my tank threw its track when it slid sideways into a mud hole. My fault, I was TC and mis-read how soft the ground was when I had the driver stop there. Even with the help of the recovery vehicle it took a few hours and left us all sore and tired.

I know because I got to do it in garrison when we decided a link was too worn. Unhinge, move the tank so the tread rolls out, replace that link, run the chain and roll the tank back, fasten the last linkpin. Even with recovery vehicle, bright shining day, all the tools, and a concrete surface it took a few hours and left us all sore and tired.

But replace a pad? A couple of bolts, total.

I can tell you this much. The NRA’s actions have made me a lot more anti-gun than I would be otherwise. Gun owners really need a better lobbying group. I know not all gunowners are nuts knowing the ones I know here and having had many in my own family and friend circle but the NRA is the most prominent voice on gun ownership in the debate and frankly that stinks. There is no credible threat to the 2nd. Nada. Well with a couple exceptions that the Supreme Court dealt with. But those local pols keep trying to all but ban gun possession in places like Dc and Chicago. The LAPD gun detail openly states they will not comply with a recent court ruling. (Sorry can’t link a phone conversation) You can sue LAPD for wrongly denying you a CCW permit. You can win in court. Then at the end of the year they will deny you the renewal and the court case starts all over again. They already have a ruling in your favor. WTF?

I can relate to changing track. If you overheat (burn) the track “live” bushings there is a good chance they’ll throw a track soon after. A temporary win, but still.
Having thrown a track I can say I’d rather fix it right away then drive it until it breaks and hits something at speed. Can image what that would do in an urban area, or traffic.

Spent some quality time working with DATs as a 19D. Tank maintenance sucks. Though nothing is more fun than replacing a torsion bar in the field, in the mud, at night. Ah memories.

Yeah I’m not either. I want people to be able to protect themselves. And in an urban area where crime is more likely to be a problem, I especially empathize with that program. It’s just Mr. I live in rural so and so and feel the need to own a private arsenal that bothers me more. As I said, plenty of sane gun owners out there. Worst one I can remember was on a steep slope, in the rain. Tank (M-60A3) started going sideways down the hill, TC (not me, a young E5, I was loader & worried about rolling) panicked and told the driver to turn uphill and gun it.
