Serious Russia Today Journalist Abby Martin’s First Tweet: a 9/11 Truther Video

Presenting serious Russia Today journalist Abby Martin’s very first Tweet — a link to a crazy 9/11 truther video by Charlie Sheen titled, “Charlie Sheen’s Video Message to President Obama” or “Charlie Sheen Requests Meeting With Obama Over 9/11 Cover-Up!” The video is uniquely produced and hosted by Prison Planet on The Alex Jones Channel.

Finally, these words from Glenn Greenwald:

American media elites awash in an orgy of feel-good condemnation in particular love to mock Russian media, especially the government-funded English-language outlet RT, as being a source of shameless pro-Putin propaganda, where free expression is strictly barred (in contrast to the Free American Media). That that network has a strong pro-Russian bias is unquestionably true. But one of its leading hosts, Abby Martin, remarkably demonstrated last night what “journalistic independence” means by ending her Breaking the Set program with a clear and unapologetic denunciation of the Russian action in Ukraine…

Plus, as I noted downstairs, she has the Nazi swastika backwards.

“The left-hand swastika (called a sauvastika) usually represents the terrifying goddess Kali, night and magic. However, this form of the swastika is not “evil” and it is the form most commonly used in Buddhism. “

Australia says suspected plane debris may have sunk reuters.com

You know what this means? If they do not find that plane soon, this too will join the ranks of the conspiracy theories. And, since Obama is the man in office, and this happened while Putin/Russia invaded and took control of Crimea, this will all be part of the crazy theories.

Get to work whack-jobbers! If you’re good enough, you can tie 9/11 to the airplane, to the missing yellow-cake in Iraq, to the Boston Marathon bombing, to the NJ bridge closing and on and on.

And it all leads to one thing. Obama is destabilizing the world in order to crash it into World War Three so that all power can be taken from Washington, Russia and China and moved to the New Kenyan World Government and Africa can rightfully take it’s place as the Center of The New Kenyan World Order. All people without any African blood lines will be enslaved and used to maintain the New Africa.

I know we can count on you all. Beck, Limbaugh, Jones, Ms. Martin, Greenwald, others…tie this up. Put it in a nice little story, have Charlie Sheen write letters and make a video and by all means make sure CNN turns it into a whole new cable channel…CNN’s Conspiracy News Network.

We need to make sure every victim of domestic violence knows that they are not alone; that there are resources available to them in their moment of greatest need. And as a society, we need to ensure that if a victim of abuse reaches out for help, we are there to lend a hand. This is not just the job of government. It’s a job for all of us.-Barack Obama

Like many, she harbors ill will to the authorities. “The stupid cop and the stupid SPCA should really listen to amateurs,” she says. “We do have a reason we go to see them. We end up doing some of their work. We’re not wasting your time.”

Moovan and John are still working together under the Animal Beta Project banner. In 2012, they were instrumental in the investigation of Ashley Nicole Richards and Brent Justice in Houston (the former pleaded guilty to state charges while the latter’s state case is pending), who are accused of privately selling “hard” crush videos of puppies and kittens. (The pair is accused of releasing “soft crush” videos on Youtube showing the torture of invertebrate animals — which is currently legal — and used them as an advertisement to sell the illegal “hard crush” videos.) Nicee continues to work with them as well. “I was very meek before,” she says. “But two years of Luka desensitized me.”

“On a personal level, I found a lot of comfort in these people,” Moovan says of her fellow citizen detectives. “Because we had been through a year and a half of the weirdest shit ever. I feel closer to them than a lot of the people I know in real life.”

We make about that. We spend it on incredibly expensive living in Manhattan. Our rent is $1,900 a month, groceries are fiendishly expensive, subway is $5 for a two-way ride, electric is like $100 a month even in the winter, We sent money to her cousin, an awesome dude who’s struggling, quite a bit. We pay for me being back in school. Phone bill is another $150 a month, Insurance between is like $700. Trips to see my parents in California, hers in Michigan a few times a year knocks off more. She’s paying back her student loans. It adds up.

We’re living a privileged and happy life but we still have to budget and calculate our costs. And we don’t even have a kid.

Yeah you look at somebody making $1500/week and you think WHAT IN THE FUCK DO THEY SPEND IT ALL ON.

There was an article written a few years back, unfortunately I forget the title or the paper it was in… but basically it was detailing the lives of wealthy people who ‘suffer’ greatly from “keeping up with the Joneses” culture. Obscene amounts of money compared to the rest of us, but living ‘paycheck to paycheck’ more or less because of all of the shiny new shit their elite social circles demand they keep buying to keep up the expected appearance of being wealthy.

I don’t have a whole lot of sympathy for those types.

But there are places in this country where just living a ‘normal’ life costs a stupid amount of money. Even here in Georgiastan there are pronounced tiers of social strata. Consider what I’m paying right now for mortgage + insurance in one part of the metro Atlanta area; a year back I was paying 150% of that for rent alone on a studio apartment only about 20 miles away. Both outside of the city proper, neither extravagant by any means, but it was WAY more expensive to just exist in modest accommodations depending on what plot of ground I settled on.

Fortunately, I have a relatively unique situation; raised by a more-or-less blue collar family, lower-middle-class at best, but I happened to be a massive nerd and pretty smart so I squeaked out a good degree in tech and landed a nice IT job. Solidly middle- to upper-middle-class wages, much simpler lifestyle. Gives me a leg up on the financial front.

New York Review of Books: Putin vs Reality

In view of its patent absurdity, why is this propaganda so important to Putin’s regime? Most obviously, propaganda serves the technical purpose of preparing the way for war. An excellent propaganda apparatus, such as the Russian one, can find ways to repeat its message over and over again in slightly different ways and formats. Plenty of people in the West now spread Russian propaganda, sometimes for money, sometimes from ignorance, and sometimes for reasons best known to themselves. Those who repeat the Russian propaganda conceits do not need to convince everyone, only to set the terms of debate. If people in free societies have their discussions framed for them by rulers of unfree societies, then they will not notice the history unfolding around them (a revolution just happened in Europe!) or sense the urgency of formulating policy in a desperate situation (a European country has just invaded another!). Propaganda can serve this technical purpose no matter how absurd it is.

But propaganda has a deeper and more important function. Propaganda, at least in the old Soviet Union, was not an edited version of reality, but rather a crucial part of the endeavor to create a different reality. When we refute propaganda with facts and arguments, and even when we discuss its social function, we are inhabiting a certain mental world; we accept the constraints of observation and reason at the outset and seek to change our situation on the basis of what we think we can see and understand. But this is not the only possible psychic reality. In the Soviet Union, the assumption among many who believed in the promise of communism was that the future was as real if not more real than the present. Soviet propaganda was not a version of the world in which we live but rather a representation of the world to come. When we see Russia’s current propaganda in this way, we understand why its authors are utterly untroubled by what might appear to be factual errors and contradictions.

Take the idea of Jewish Nazis, which must be taken on if the current Kremlin propaganda about the revolution in Kiev is to have any logical basis. The claim is that Nazis made a coup; the observable reality is that some of the people now in power are Jews. And then we evince our skepticism that Jews are Nazis or that a Nazi coup would put Jews at the top of the Ukrainian state apparatus.

But in the ideology of the Soviet Union and its communist allies, the identification of Jews with Nazis was convenient for those who were in power, and so Jewish Nazis became a propaganda reality. In the years before Stalin’s death Israel became part of an international plot that was directed by fascists in the capitalist West. After the Six-Day War the Soviets presented Israeli soldiers and citizens as imitators of the Wehrmacht and the SS. This propaganda was followed by the expulsion of Jews from communist Poland. The fact that Jews left Poland for Israel and the US was presented as evidence that they were fascists all along. The regimes found it politically useful for their own future to target Jews, and therefore Jews, so to speak, were made to become Nazis.

Well, I’m not and never have been “keeping up with the Joneses” — my crappy paycheck-to-paycheck financial situation used to be (down in the DC Metro) a combination of cost of living/rent and student loans (undergrad + grad).

Up here in PA, it’s now being only partially employed, since my freelance editing contract’s gone at the end of the month. Luckily, the student loans are on hold for the moment, and I have about a month’s cushion as I continue to up my resume-bombing effort.

(BTW, thanks all for your suggestions downstairs. Many if not all are being pursued, but feel free to keep ‘em coming!)

Semi-related, I heard from my publisher on the financials for my collection of fairy tales. Upshot is that we’ll need to sell about 100 — or 200 eBook only — to hit break-even on expenses before I see any cash. (Since more than half of the stories in the collection are from me, I went with profit-sharing royalties rather than a flat payment like the other 5 authors.)

Anyone know of (SF&F) reviewers online with a decent-sized audience open to small-press fairy tale collections? I want to do whatever footwork I can to help out my own bottom line.

I should’ve tried to get interviewed by Local Hometown Paper before I got hired for the obit desk; now it feels like a conflict of interest to me.

I’d heard rumors that they had extra scenes filmed for the international Jeagers beyond the short-shrift knockouts they got in the theatrical release. Is there anything like that in the home release? I’ve been kind of holding out for some sort of special edition or the like.

Prosecutors said he sexually abused a family member more than 100 times over two years in the late 1990s, starting when the girl was 6 years old.

Prior to Dec. 31, 1999, which prosecutors said was the day the molestation stopped, the penalty for such a conviction was probation.

Onsurez was deemed a low risk to offend again during two psychosexual evaluations before his sentencing and probation was discussed during a hearing last month, but his plea agreement indicated the maximum 10-to-life prison term.

Aaaannnnnnd I just did, with extra subtle racism. Diggit:

The Big Bad of the Zo setting is Shaykosch, the Deathless Wolf, the Gray Wind, Death-on-Four-Legs, etc.

He’s a mash-up of Koschei the Deathless (Russian fairy tales), the Big Bad Wolf, Loki (Norse myth) with no redeeming qualities, Maugrim (Narnia, captain of the White Witch’s secret police), and general all-around-shapeshifter in a world of Talking Animals and humans and fairies and whatnot. Bad news.

Check out that second epithet there: the Gray Wind.

Here’s the dog-whistle (wolf-whistle? nah, that’s way wrong!):
* Shaykosch = gray.
* Gray = black + white.
* Obama = black + white.
* Shaykosch = Obama.
QED.

107 Bulworth  Fri, Mar 21, 2014 7:25:09am

So, the teabag GOP in the House tried to reduce Food Stamp $$ by doing this?

So negotiators on the farm bill agreed that states would have to pay a minimum of $20 a year in fuel aid to prompt the benefits. Republicans thought this would save more than $8 billion over a decade, because they assumed the states wouldn’t want to pay $20. Democrats went along because it was better than the original Republican plan to cut $40 billion from food stamps.

But to the shock of Republicans, at least eight states decided to do the right thing and raise their heating-aid payments to $20. New York and Connecticut were first, followed by Rhode Island, Oregon, Massachusetts, Vermont and Montana. Even Gov. Tom Corbett, Republican of Pennsylvania, agreed to go along.

This provoked an outburst from the House speaker, John Boehner. “Since the passage of the farm bill, states have found ways to cheat once again on signing up people for food stamps,” he said last week. “And so I would hope that the House would act to try to stop this cheating and this fraud from continuing.”

Cheating? The states are doing exactly what the farm bill — which Mr. Boehner supported — encouraged them to do: pay more to some of the poorest families in America so they neither freeze nor starve during a brutal winter. Mr. Boehner seems unaware of it, but millions of families have never recovered from the recession, and his chamber has not only refused to help them by stimulating the economy but is trying to push them through the safety net.

Seriously? And now they’re mad that states just increased the heating fuel allowance?

You can’t make this stuff up.

Yep, seriously. This is your House GOP at work, and they’re set to keep or expand their majority come November. We are a seriously fucked up nation when a party whose idea of “saving” money is giving states a dilemma of either spending more money to keep people eligible for food stamps in their states or leaving their asses to starve during a brutal winter.

112 Bulworth  Fri, Mar 21, 2014 7:37:42am

Black preschoolers more likely to face suspension

hosted.ap.org

WASHINGTON (AP) — Black students are more likely to be suspended from U.S. public schools - even as tiny preschoolers.

“The racial disparities in American education, from access to high-level classes and experienced teachers to discipline, were highlighted in a report released Friday by the Education Department’s civil rights arm.

(snip)

“Black children represent about 18 percent of children in preschool programs in schools, but they make up almost half of the preschoolers suspended more than once, the report said. Six percent of the nation’s districts with preschools reported suspending at least one preschool child.” More

Have been wondering what has been up in Lukaschenko-land.

This news indicates either that Cool Hand Luk is trying to pull a Ceaucescu-like bit of posturing like when he “stood up” to the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia or that Byelarus is afraid of Russia making claims on its territory

Bit of both, I’d wager.

White House pauses on Surgeon General pick, recalibrating strategy (VIDEO)

Even after passing a Senate committee, the President’s pick for Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, is stalling out over his comments in the past concerning gun control.

“Dr. Murthy is a dynamic, entrepreneurial practitioner who had dedicated a lot of time, energy and passion to health and wellness,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Monday. “But after the confirmation vote of Debo Adegbile, we are recalibrating the strategy around Dr. Murthy’s floor vote.”

Adegbile had been tapped to run the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice but bipartisan opposition on the senate floor blocked that appointment earlier this month.

The White House’s comment on Murthy comes as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has indefinitely put off a vote on the floor of that chamber on Murthy.

New Senate rules state that nominations simply need 51 votes in that body of lawmakers for confirmation and there are currently 55 Senate Democrats. However, as with the Adegbile vote, it could be that several Dems may cross the aisle against a candidate that has received much negative publicity for his past views on gun control.

I don’t think Murthy ends up getting confirmed. It’s not just Dems up for reelection this year, its also that Harry Reid is up in 2016. While Reid doesn’t want to vote the president’s nominee down, neither does he want to cast a vote that is going to be heavily held against him by the NRA, with which he has always taken care to avoid major conflict.

My Read: Stick a fork in Murthy’s nomination, it’s done.

I agree… phrases like “we are recalibrating our strategy” is nice-talk for “We’re going to lose, and that’s not going to happen”. It’s a pity, because by any measure of achievement this is an outstanding individual. I hope that at some time in the future this country will be able to use his talents, until then, good luck to him.

At Least 3 Dead In Point Pleasant Beach Motel Blaze

newyork.cbslocal.com

“Joe Frystock was one of the Sandy victims who was staying at the motel. His home in nearby Brick Township took on 6 feet of water in the storm and the motel was the latest in a series of temporary homes for him.

“He woke up to popping sounds, which he initially thought was gunfire.

“It was the sound of timbers burning upstairs,” he said. “I looked out and saw that orange low, and there was no mistaking what it was. People were yelling: ‘Help me! Help me!’ There was lots of screaming,” he said. “A woman in the unit next to me, they pulled her from a bathtub, but I don’t know how anyone could have survived those flames. The entire second floor was engulfed, from one end to another.” More

FBI agent cleared in Florida shooting of suspect questioned about Boston bombing

washingtonpost.com

“A Florida prosecutor has ruled that an FBI agent was justified in using deadly force when he shot and killed a Chechen man connected to two brothers accused of carrying out the Boston Marathon bombing.

“Law enforcement officials said that Ibragim Todashev, 27, a mixed-martial-arts fighter, attacked the agent with a metal pole during an interview at his Orlando apartment on May 22.

“FBI officials have said the male agent, who has not been identified, was acting in self-defense when he shot Todashev multiple times. The agent suffered a wound to the back of the head that required stitches. It’s not clear what first sparked the confrontation.”

On paper, there are no taxes; in point of fact, there are. But it makes for good North Korean propaganda. :)

I will not rest until I see Anderson Cooper report from a rubber dinghy somewhere in the Indian Ocean.

Only if he is in one of those yellow rubber rain coats with the big ol’ yellow swoopy hat.

It wasn’t a dude who wrote that? Sounded like a dude. Same level of testosterone poisoning you often find in dudes.

That might be what it takes to be a female dudebro. I dunno.

Nope. McArdle is actually a “former senior editor” there, whatever that means. And a reliable font of derp.

Rather like how most Texans pay more in taxes than most Californians despite not having an income tax in Texas?

I don’t have a problem with paying taxes, and I really don’t understand the anger behind it. Taxes are the reason we can have nice things.

Ack, phone corrected it from McArdle.

Libertarians by in large lack empathy for others, and tend to be self-centered. They also tend to believe the macho myth that you can go it alone.

Or, more simply, Libertarianism can make a lady sound very masculine. A say this as someone who lost a friend to Libertarianism. They went from being a very sweet person, to smug and condescending, not to mention volatile.

My god…we are seeing the freakin’ news media melt down before our eyes.

I feel for the families that had loved ones, friends, etc. on the plane, but to take one plane crash and have the media go this far off the rails is just hilariously stunning.

What will they do next to one up each other?

Wait…I don’t think I want to know, or watch.

And maybe I wasn’t too far off in my crack about Breaking Bad News. They really are cooking up and snortin’ meth in the newsroom at CNN.

I thought after the Boston Marathon bombing coverage, CNN couldn’t possibly get any worse.

I was a moron.

I like to call taxes the dues for living in a decent society. You pay dues to be in a nice athletic club, right? Well, these dues pay for the roads to get there along with all the other things that make most places in America a nice place to live.

It should be essentially the British channel, with slightly different news coverage. And bring the related channels too.

FDR and LBJ did try to help black people, even if their efforts were not always successful.

Woodrow Wilson is another matter, especially given that the codification of Jim Crow happened in DC while he was president. But Wilson is long in the past and Barack Obama is not the sort of “Brilliant Fool” that Wilson was.
