To think you can hide your history by deleting internet posts is crazier than 9/11 trutherism.

Man. Reading through Abby Martin’s timeline, the overriding impression is that she utterly hates the United States with a passion.

Damn, Tommy’s overdubs don’t even sound like overdubs for most of that song. His unison playing is nearly perfect.

Looks like the widget feature doesn’t allow the more advanced Twitter search options.

In the main Twitter search field, you can use:

from:abbymartin AND “9/11”

To get her tweets. But you can’t create a widget with that search query.

One thing about Martin…in her videos she has a really grating delivery. It has that I know I am right and all you are wrong smug thing going on. After her first sentence full of dramatically emphasized key words I want to shut them off. I bet she can really rub people wrong in social environs. She is: Perfect for Putin!

“Thousands of credit card numbers have once again fallen into the wrong hands. The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) appears to be the latest target of a credit card breach, according to a report out today from security blogger Brian Krebs. MasterCard has confirmed that it has warned a number of banks about fraudulent charges on cards that have one thing in common: the accounts were all previously used for purchases at the DMV. If you used your card for a DMV charge form August 2nd, 2013 to January 31st of this year, your number might be in danger.” More

Hamas Sends SMS Threats to Israelis, Hacks Websites

Hamas has flooded the phones of many Israelis with threatening SMS messages - Many citizens received alarming and threatening messages in recent hours on behalf of Hamas’s military wing (or from unidentified numbers). One of the messages sent stated: “Warning to Zionists… Al Qassam missiles are waiting for you.. If you want the lives (sic) then flee our country.”

Buyer Beware: Veterans Today and its Anti-Israel Agenda

Veterans Today (VT) is a website that bills itself as a “military veterans and foreign affairs journal.” And, indeed, many of its contributors are military veterans or veterans’ advocates from across the political spectrum. VT also offers some information about veterans’ benefits (lifted from the Veterans’ Administration) and links to home and other loans for vets.

But start reading the posts, and you’ll find something else entirely: myriad claims that there was a conspiracy behind 9/11 (Israel orchestrated it, in cahoots with the American government), that the American government is a puppet (of Israel), that the Holocaust never happened or was greatly exaggerated (Jews made it up to manipulate non-Jews), and, most recently, that Julian Assange, the man behind Wikileaks, is a pawn (of Israel).

Notice a theme?

Gordon Duff, the senior editor and chairman of the board at VT, is a prolific proponent of these anti-Israel conspiracy theories, including the Wikileaks claims. Though he does occasionally write on issues and policies that directly affect American veterans (he claims to be a Marine Vietnam veteran), most of his ammo is reserved for churning out articles that claim 9/11 was a U.S./Israel conspiracy and that Israel controls the U.S. government. According to Duff and VT contributors like author and attorney Jeff Gates, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a civil rights watchdog group, and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a lobbying group, are Zionist-controlled fronts for Israeli intelligence operations.

In December, Duff claimed that “insiders at the ADL” admitted that Israel was behind Wikileaks, perhaps a slam at an ADL piece a few days earlier. In that article, the ADL pointed out that many of the conspiracy theories about Israel and Wikileaks “are being promulgated by … anti-Semitic conspiracy theorist” Gordon Duff. Marilyn Mayo, a director at the ADL Center on Extremism, told Hatewatch that Duff did not speak to anyone at the ADL and, like other conspiracy theorists, he “makes information up and presents it as the truth.” Indeed, Duff claimed that the ADL website was “loading up with warnings and attacks” defending Wikileaks and Assange. But the ADL’s website claims nothing of the sort and Duff provides no evidence that the “ADL source” he says he is quoting actually exists.

Duff’s anti-Israel articles get a lot of play, and are often quoted or linked to on other conspiracy sites as well as on white nationalist sites like Stormfront and White News Now. Indeed, the anti-Israel bent on VT can slide pretty quickly into overt anti-Semitism. J.B. Campbell, a self-proclaimed founder of the militia movement, wrote this past November on VT: “Since Jews control every important aspect of our lives through banking, finance, law, war, food & drugs and entertainment, we are literally floating on a reservoir of truth blocked by a dam of lies… . The Jews have poisoned our minds for a long time, certainly for all the time that we’ve been alive.” Campbell also claims that Jews control the Federal Reserve and the US Army.

VT has its supporters — check the comments (some virulently anti-Semitic) on any of its articles — but also detractors. A contributor at Burn Pit, a discussion list maintained by American Legion members, refuses to comment or answer questions about articles at VT. In early 2010, the blogger said that, according to VT, “9-11, just like everything else that has happened in the past 50 years to the detriment of the US and the world, is nothing short of the fauilt [sic] of an international cabal of Jews, which is my second reason for never replying to VT nonsense.”

American military veterans looking for information about veterans’ issues and a more balanced take on foreign affairs — as opposed to what looks like an endless stream of Israel-bashing mixed in with some bona fide anti-Semitism — would be better-served looking elsewhere.

Is it ok in general if i use a link to a webpage in another language (Hebrew) for the LFG page i made earlier? There’s nothing up in English about the Hamas SMS/hacking effort today, and the only info i got (beyond the first of the three threat messages, which was sent to my phone two hours ago - one of the two in Hebrew rather than the one in English, ironically enough) was from one of the Israeli news websites…

The messages that Hamas sent in Hebrew were hilariously bad by the way (Google Translated without a doubt).

It’s two different (though linked) events, though no one has “officially” taken responsibility, if that’s what you meant. There was the SMS threat campaign (for the lack of a better description) and the hack into the IsraelDefense website and database (from which they may have got subscriber information, as well as email addresses and phone numbers of website subscribers and users). It’s currently unclear if the website hack succeeded in obtaining magazine subscriber’s credit card info, by the way.
Both the SMS campaign and the website hack were done in the organization’s name, though while the hack seems to have been the work of a Hamas operative based on the content, the SMS threat campaign was more ambiguous. It seems to me that the information used in both cases originated from different sources (the hack targeted subscribers in the database, while the SMS messages were directed to far more many people than were listed there)..

Not really sure what he’s talking about with fakes and accents on that.

All that aside, on the assumption this is “real”:

When you join the United States Armed Forces, you don’t get to decide what is and isn’t “our fight”. You don’t get to pick and choose what wars you will fight in. It’s up to Congress, the President, and treaties and agreements the US has made in good faith. If you don’t want to do the job, don’t join. We have a volunteer military. It can act as a check-and-balance against wildly unpopular military actions.

If a nation attacks a country we have pledged to protect, and then we decide to do nothing at all, we are also the bad guys in the situation. I’m not saying we need to invade the Crimea and start World War 3 here, but something (and sanctions are something) needs to be done. Joe Private in the US Army doesn’t get to make the decision.

I also found a larger version of her & Rani Khalek flipping off Netanyahu. If you go to this web page and look at the right-hand sidebar then scroll down, you’ll see it (it’s currently like the 14th photo, and, yes, I got a screenshot). You can also find it on the same site included in Rania Khalek , Abby Martin - Trending Photos and Videos, along with some other stuff about Martin.

Media Roots Radio - Interview with Key Eyewitness to “Underwear Bomber” False Flag

Abby and Robbie Martin conduct an exclusive interview with Kurt Haskell, attorney and key eyewitness to the “Underwear Bomber” incident which happened on December 25, 2010. Kurt maintains that he witnessed a well dressed man argue with security and escort Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, or the “Underwear Bomber”, on their flight without a passport.
Kurt discusses the subsequent government and media cover up about the event and talks about how being a witness to a false flag attack changed his political perspective and caused him to question the entire “War on Terror”.

Good. I usually blow off all religion, but I can have respect for those who don’t try to push it on me. I’m curious about everything, however, even if I’m not a “believer”. People have the right to believe what they wish, IMHO, esp if the respect is reciprocated.

And that’s how it should be. To each their own; it makes no difference to me whether a person is a Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, Zoroastrian, Hindu, Sikh, Shintoist or whether they worship their ancestors who live in the treetops or anything else. It’s the way of the world.

Oh, lovely. Forbes’ 2013 list of The World’s Most Powerful People puts Putin at #1. Apparently, their methodology largely favors macho dick swinging:

Ranking The World’s Most Powerful People 2013
There are nearly 7.2 billion people on the planet. These are 72 that matter.

First, we ask whether the candidate has power over lots of people. […]

Next we assess the financial resources controlled by each person. […]

Then we determine if the candidate is powerful in multiple spheres. There are only 72 slots on our list so being powerful in just one area is often not enough. […]

Lastly, we make sure that the candidates actively use their power. Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin scores the highest points in 2013 because he so frequently shows his strength at home and on the global stage — consider NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and the recent chess match over Syria. […]

Hey, Killgore? Looky here—Khamenei outranks Netanyahu by three places, and the king of Saudi Arabia is wayyyy above both of them:

The Onion, in fine form here.

Fred Phelps, Man Who Forever Stopped March Of Gay Rights, Dead At 84

According to biographers and historians, many of the facets of modern-day society that we now take for granted—such as the ban on gay marriage in all 50 states and the inability of homosexuals to serve in the military—can be traced back to Phelps’ vocal public crusades against the unholy practice of homosexuality, which he began in 1991 and which quickly succeeded in bringing efforts to expand LGBT rights to a spectacular and abrupt halt.

“What Fred Phelps accomplished over the past 30 years—from a federal constitutional amendment limiting marriage to one man and one woman, to nationwide laws allowing businesses to turn away gay customers—makes him easily one of the most successful and monumental figures of the past century,” said biographer Michael Ammons, noting that depictions of gays and lesbians began to disappear from popular culture and the media as soon as Phelps began taking his powerful rallies against homosexuality from state to state. “Fred Phelps devoted his life to one goal, and he triumphed. This was an incredibly influential man who deserved all the attention he received. Think of the legacy he leaves behind: In the past three decades, homosexuality has become practically nonexistent in society.”

Some of the best satire I’ve read in quite a while.

Absolutely - it’s not optimized yet for mobile devices but everything works, and on an iPhone 5s it’s pretty quick, too. You need to get used to double-tapping to zoom in on areas.

Also, to read and post comments on a mobile device, Spy Mode is a lot better than the standard comment threads.

While I was oot and aboot earlier I noticed a couple of points people were making on a previous thread that had I had the time and something other than my phone I would have added to.

There were a few pictures of gorgeous desert sunsets that impressed quite a few people, including me. I just wanted people to know that the official provincial motto for Saskatchewan is ‘Land of the Living Skies’. I’m convinced it’s about the flying cows, but our provincial leaders assure us it’s about our amazing sunsets, especially during harvest.

Another subthread was about a cartoon representing Muslim kids and I noticed a couple of people wishing the US could produce a decent show that dispelled the Muslim stereotypes. We had a series filmed here in Saskatchewan, not far from where they filmed Corner gas, called ‘Little Mosque on the Prairie’ that lasted from 2007 to 2012. It was anything but stereotypical.

It’s clearly easier to rank high on such a list when you don’t lead a real democracy.

Just think how “powerful” Obama would be if our Congress was as corrupt as Russia’s Parliament, and it rubber stamped everything he wanted. Or if he had the power to throw minor dissidents (Pussy Riot, for example) in prison on thoroughly bogus charges.

I guess if this list were made in a different era, Stalin and Mao and Hitler would have all ranked higher than the likes of FDR, Truman, Ike, JFK, Nixon, et al.

Well, it’s the dudebros, after all. And they framed the whole debate about this, so much so that the NSA was caught absolutely flatfooted.

I still think it was planned months in advance for Snowden to do what he did. He had already experimented at stealing docs, while contracting for Dell in 2012. So, when he contacted Poitras and Greenwald, before going to work for BHA at the NSA in Hawaii in March 2013, he, and they, knew exactly what he was going to do. P & G have been complicit in this all the way—they would have to prove to me they weren’t. : )

It’s all situational. After we returned from each tour overseas, it would take a month or so before our family members would completely stop reaching for our ID card and ration plate when we went to the grocery or movies.

I heard that. Another memory: When I was around 17 we spent a week in Mexico City, which has insane traffic and where pedestrians do NOT have the right of way, so it’s basically “cross at your own risk, and you’d better be agile”.

When we arrived back at the airport in Texas and were leaving to go get our car and go home, I dashed through the traffic passing in front of the terminal like my life depended on it, then got to the other side and felt really sheepish once I came to a stop and noticed people gawking at me as if I was some sort of escaped lunatic. It was like, “Oh, right—we have crosswalks and laws that say the cars have to stop for me.”

No. That would never happen. We’d have mic checks and group meetings so we’d all have equal power and equal say. Join us!

Hello, is this thing on?

OK, since I’m going relax with the tube now, I’ll leave you with this.

“Well, she got sassy. Oh, oh, little bitty boy…ahooooo…”

Damn, I love this stuff. And I’m old enough to remember it. : ) This is said to be the only filmed version of “Smokestack Lightning” by Howling Wolf in existence. What a guy.

Once we destroy the US government we can therefore set up city states and crunchy anarchist collectives and we’ll all live happily ever after tribal areas with warlords and be like Somalia or Afghanistan.

Won’t that be fun! Loya jirga anyone?

re: #271 Charles Johnson

And again, I’m struck by the simple fact that ALL of these revelations serve to harm the US.

Information just wants to be free, man.

Is there nothing in all those Snowden-stolen docs about Russian or Chinese intelligence programs?

If there are, Snowden’s Russian hosts have made it clear their hospitality hinges on them not being released.
