CA GOP Introduces Their Convicted Murderer and Sexual Predator Candidate for Governor

Proof that the CA GOP has basically given up.
Wingnuts • Views: 41,154

Meet one of your new California Republican Party candidates for Governor. Please note this is one of the finalists, who was officially introduced to the party at a GOP function as a candidate.

Glenn Champ, 48, addressed hundreds of GOP delegates and supporters Sunday at the site of the state party’s semi-annual convention. Introduced by party chairman Jim Brulte and allotted 10 minutes, Champ spoke in between the main GOP candidates, former U.S. Treasury official Neel Kashkari and state Assemblyman Tim Donnelly of San Bernardino County.

Champ, a little-known political neophyte from the Fresno County community of Tollhouse, did not directly mention his criminal past during his speech but said, “In my life, I’ve been held accountable because of my stupidity. I do not want anyone else to be enslaved because of their lack of knowledge.”

Champ’s rap sheet is lengthy. Court records show that in 1992, he pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed firearm. In 1993, he was convicted of two counts of assault with intent to commit rape and as a result was placed on the state’s sex-offender registry.

In March 1998, he accepted a plea deal on a charge of loitering to solicit a prostitute; later that year, he pleaded no contest to a voluntary manslaughter charge after hitting a man with his vehicle, for which he was sentenced to 12 years in state prison, according to court records.

But you see, that is all in the past now, because he found Jesus!

Champ said the assault case “was just for picking up some underage prostitutes” and resulted in a 90-day jail sentence. He said he turned his life around after the incident.

“I found the Lord when I got arrested for picking up the prostitutes,” Champ said. “I was like most people, ignorant in the darkness, in the very dark. I had no peace, had no love, had no joy. And now I do. Praise God for that…. I’ve grown considerably since I met Christ.”

More: GOP Candidate for Governor Is a Registered Sex Offender

Going to Champ’s own website, you can be treated to a truly amazing amount of Tea Party wingnut nonsense, full of bad grammar, hyperbole and religious zealotry.

champforgovernor.com

For example:

CHAMP represents a new breed of Christian soldier moving forward in the army of the lord, on the highway of righteousness, stomping on the devil’s head, with a new song of righteousness’s in our hearts. Amen. As a man of God, he is going back to fix the crooked places that have led to our current catastrophe. There is a parallel to our spirituality and our nations prosperity. God has sent a deliverer, CHAMP to lead the way back to righteousness and prosperity.

and:

CHAMP does not support same sex marriage but views them as misled people with past issues that have not been dealt with in a Biblical manner, nor does he support womb abortions 99.9% of the time. As a man of God and an Evangelical Christian believer, CHAMP’s faith “compels me to support Biblical traditional family values”. The gubernatorial candidate opposed what he called, ” ungodly legislation drafted by demonic terrorist extremists own agenda”, that refuse to follow the Biblical or constitution guide lines. This will involve a total overhaul of court house, school house, and church house!

And of course…

I use my second amendment right, NOT BURY THEM!

This from a convicted felon who is legally prohibited from owning firearms.

Well done, California GOP. Well done.

This is one of the guys who actually made it thru the vetting process to make it into the finals and be officially considered a nominee by the party, not some guy just declaring himself a candidate.

The tweet right after that answers the question - yes, of course he thinks it should have been published, because it exposes the “hypocrisy” of the US government.

He’s actually equating completely legal espionage against China, a job that the NSA was created to do, and that most people who aren’t insane would say is a good thing for them to do, with “hypocrisy.” Because the US accused Huawei of the same thing - that makes it “hypocrisy” to the Mighty Greenwald.

He’s really saying once again that to him, there’s no such thing as legitimate intelligence gathering, if it’s being done by the US.

It’s funny how Glen Champ doesn’t “meet Jesus” until after being arrested for trying to score with underage prostitutes. Yet, on his website he indicates he is of “all American Christian heritage”. I guess the “all American Christian heritage” doesn’t really mature and bear fruit until after you get arrested for trying to score with underage prostitutes.

Snowden Working For Russians
- Concerns raised regarding influence of Russian intelligence services over Snowden
- Timetable of initial contact with Russian government now in question

Statements made by the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee point a damning finger at former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, and cast serious doubts on the motivation of the so-called “whistleblower” who leaked a wealth of classified documents to journalists in 2013. Rather than being driven by patriotism and privacy concerns, Snowden now seems certain to have been acting under orders from his Russian paymasters when he stole and leaked the documents.

blah blah blah paragraphs 2 through 19 blah blah blah spin spin spin

There has been no public indication that investigators for the F.B.I., the N.S.A. or the Pentagon have uncovered evidence that Mr. Snowden received assistance from any foreign intelligence service.

Lets just say the results were “mixed”

((“mixed”,, translation = lost every other ball I hit!!)))

I built myself a new set of clubs (D, 4w, 7w, 4h, 5h, 6-LW). They FELT really nice, and I liked the flight I was getting out of them. No huge curves that weren’t directly attributable to a horrible swing. Actually seeing a little bit of a draw on my hybrids and FW woods.

re: #39 Charles Johnson

The tweet right after that answers the question - yes, of course he thinks it should have been published, because it exposes the “hypocrisy” of the US government.

He’s actually equating completely legal espionage against China, a job that the NSA was created to do, and that most people who aren’t insane would say is a good thing for them to do, with “hypocrisy.” Because the US accused Huawei of the same thing - that makes it “hypocrisy” to the Mighty Greenwald.

He’s really saying once again that to him, there’s no such thing as legitimate intelligence gathering, if it’s being done by the US.

Intelligence gathering involves subterfuge practically by definition. And given constant Chinese efforts to steal US military and trade secrets, clandestine information gathering by the NSA to make things harder on that front for China does not bother me. What I am is annoyed that this story was published. I don’t fault the New York Times, because the story would have still been published in Europe and on the internet, but fault Edward Snowden very much.

I also wonder what Russia’s angle is in releasing this information at this time.

OK, here’s a nifty fix for a long-time LGF commenting annoyance — if you included a left angled bracket ( < ) in a comment, everything after it would be stripped out by PHP’s “strip_tags” function, because the bracket is the start of an HTML tag and everything after it until a closing bracket is interpreted as a tag and… removed.

I can’t tell you how many times this has been a problem; people want to put in a “less than” symbol (for example <200), and it causes most of their post to vanish.

The code can’t just convert all left angle brackets to their entity equivalent, because we also allow some carefully sanitized HTML tags in comments.

Well now, thanks to the magic of regular expressions, this shouldn’t be a problem any more. This regex uses a negative lookahead to see if a ‘<’ symbol is NOT followed by one of the allowed tags (or its closing tag), and if it isn’t, replaces it with the < character entity so it won’t cause the vanishing comment problem.

<?php
$t = implode('|', $allowedTags);
$text = preg_replace('~<(?!('.$t.')[ >]|/('.$t.')>)~i', '<', $text);
?>

And just to test it I used several < characters in this comment.

DAVOS, Switzerland — Russia plans to extend its offer of asylum to Edward J. Snowden beyond August, a Russian lawmaker said Friday at the World Economic Forum here.

The lawmaker, Aleksei K. Pushkov, chairman of the foreign affairs committee in Russia’s lower house of Parliament, hinted during a panel discussion that the extension of temporary refugee status for Mr. Snowden, the former National Security Agency contractor, might be indefinite.

“He will not be sent out of Russia,” Mr. Pushkov said. “It will be up to Snowden.”

Beyond that, though, I’m heading towards the conclusion that all these reports and the nature of the media attention given may be quite counterproductive, as far as mitigating climate change.

I wonder if a desensitization process is happening among the public - too many scare stories (and not enough real understanding) making people immune to paying attention to what is really going on.

Here’s a follow-up to a story we talked about a great deal back in the fall of 2011:

Iraq war veteran Scott Olsen settles for $4.5 million in Occupy Oakland beanbag case (VIDEO)

Scott Olsen, a former Marine who served two tours in Iraq, recently settled for $4.5 million in a lawsuit against the city of Oakland after suffering serious head trauma from a police-deployed beanbag during the 2011 Occupy Oakland protests, his attorneys announced Friday.

Olsen, then 24, was peacefully protesting when he was shot in the head by an Oakland police officer with a less-than-lethal beanbag round on October 25, 2011. The shot was deployed from approximately 20 feet away and left him with a fractured skull and permanent brain damage. While Olsen received several million dollars from the city, he says he didn’t really win, NBC reports.

“I didn’t win, uh, part of my brain back that’s dead,” said Olsen, who has learned to talk again but still struggles with basic tasks. “Um, but you know, I… I… It’s hard, it was a hard recovery process. This isn’t everything.”

Olsen still has difficulty concentrating and because of his condition cannot return to his previous job as a computer systems administrator. He also has nearly $200,000 in medical debt from the incident.

Rather than being driven by patriotism and privacy concerns, Snowden now seems certain to have been acting under orders from his Russian paymasters when he stole and leaked the documents.

I don’t think he did. I think he started off with the intention of stealing a load of stuff and moving to a libertoonian paradise somewhere as a hero. I remember reading some stuff from him about how great Hong Kong was, probably because it’s got a low income tax rate and therefore must be a Randian free speech utopia. He was also talking about Iceland.

So the NSA gets wind of what he’s doing (since it seems the investigation was underway before Snowden booked), Snowden gets wind of that and blows town to Hong Kong in a hurry. He gets hooked up with Wikileaks, which most likely is working for the Kremlin, and after he willingly or unwillingly gives up the docs to the Chinese and they’re done with him, Wikileaks shops him to Russia, where he willingly or unwillingly hands them the same stuff.

I’m guessing that he handed over the material to both of the countries, since he was in about the worst bargaining position imaginable with intelligence agencies who wouldn’t hesitate to put the screws to him, and he had exactly one thing to offer up to keep his neck.

The rest is history.

Also a good indicator of the far-right in Europe since people are rambling on about the far-right in Ukraine. It’s a unique part of most of Europe.

So the French don’t learn from history, either? Marine Le Pen admires Putin, who encourages relationships with right wing parties in Europe. Le Pen has famously stated that “Russia has been unfairly demonized”.

“In France, the extreme right’s shifting allegiances are even more pronounced, exemplified in its budding friendship with the new Russia. In a 2011 interview, Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Front, conveyed her admiration for Putin, before announcing that, if she were elected President in 2012, France would leave NATO and seek a trilateral alliance with Germany and Russia.”

Very sorry that he was hurt but participating in violent protests is very risky. He was standing between a violent crowd and police, even though he wasn’t being violent himself, he put himself in a very dangerous situation. Also sorry that it cost the city and tax payers 4.5 million, the community could have put that money to good use.

It is a city’s responsibility to train its police well enough for them to take care when using dangerous weapons. The officer who shot Olsen in the head with a beanbag round did not take reasonable care and for that his employer must pay. And Olsen needs the money since he has huge medical bills and cannot work.

The governments of this world, both national but also regional and local, will never give up aspects of their power and autonomy, a necessary prerequisite I propose to an effective AGW mitigations scheme.

So all this sound and fury over AGW doesn’t really mean much.

So, call me a doomer. I’m trying to deal with why humans act like we do.

Changing people is difficult to impossible.

This is why the “addiction” model of CO2 production is a good one, if not so empowering as we wished it would be.

Let’s look at this screaming headline (from HuffPo):

Hillary Clinton: Climate Change Calls For ‘Mass Movement’

It’s an AP story, ran in many outlets. A story like this will of course draw quite a bit of attention; blowback occurs in the usual fringe-o-sphere:

Clinton Wants ‘Mass Movement’ On Climate Change

But the problem is the blowback doesn’t just happen among the fringe.

“Politics” now, among the digitally connected, is an elaborate form of entertainment. It’s a spectacle. That’s why we love those “debates” that the GOP put on every few years. We (Americans, but others too) love a spectacle.

I am convinced the #1 reason it is so difficult to make climate change a politically urgent issue is because we all know, in the back of our head, that our lives are short and we really care more about other things. We care about April 15th and paying taxes. We care about if our jobs will still be around next year. We care about a physical ailment one of our family members may be suffering.

We really don’t care about people far away, in space and time.

This is why I now resent the empty gestures of politicians, who are trying to borrow the legitimacy that science still has among the general population, in trying to position themselves as some champion for a climate change cause.

It is all emptiness, a show, in this case to manipulate people.

2012:

Oakland’s police force moved closer to a potential federal takeover Monday when a court-appointed monitor said a 10-year-old reform effort remained “almost stagnant.”

But the monitor, Robert Warshaw, went further in his latest quarterly report. He said new problems - the agency’s poor handling of Occupy protests and officer-involved shootings - raised “even greater concerns” about its ability to change.

2014:

The Oakland Police Department is slipping in its efforts to make substantive progress on court-ordered reforms, 11 years after the City of Oakland agreed to accept federal oversight of OPD to settle a lawsuit against widespread police abuse, according to a new report produced by the city’s court-appointed monitor.

LOL, so let’s get this straight: the guy is supposedly standing apart from the OWS crowd but gets popped by a police issue bean-bag projectile anyway:

The shot was deployed from approximately 20 feet away and left him with a fractured skull and permanent brain damage.

Jesus God, your “I don’t think a cop would ever shoot someone like that” fantasy is almost as noxious as KT’s “I’m just sorry more OWS protesters weren’t blinded by pepper spray” mentality.

You need to clarify. Rather then just {SIGH}

I did “clarify”

I questioned the reason someone standing aside from the main agitators would be “targeted” and gave a perfectly valid reason why a cop, one who was determined to shoot someone, COULD have plausible deniablilty if he had “targeted” one that was more active

re: #243 ObserverArt

But what happened to him when he ran for president? Same shit Dark.

Jerome Corsi - The Art of the Asshole. And also used by others.

There’s a difference between being the subject of an attack ad campaign and getting shot in the head with a beanbag round, plus there’s the fact that Corsi’s not a cop.

So targeted was the trigger? Dude still got shot and is brain damaged. It’s an interesting argument to make.

I agree Dark, but you are taking my comment as a direct comparison. I mean the same type of thinking was used against Kerry and it triggered a similar reaction among the same type of people many who were part of that Viet Nam era. In a sense, Kerry protests were turned against him at a later date and triggered people to think they same way the cops in JustAnother’s comment thought. Corsi and the SwiftBoaters in a way were reacting the same way as the cops that hated soldiers that protested or at the least were hoping for those old sentiments to be called back up for political purpose.

PEACE. I’m over it.

LGF used to be such an argumentative place. I guess it was kinda fun. Especially against Mandy. (Miss WUB and Windy)

But now? I see it as more informative. Cut and paste your great info. And your funnies.

But the semantic arguments? Yah, I joined in. Sorry. But

Also, SteelPH has been around since I joined and if you’ve missed him, your loss.

I didn’t miss him, and I’ve been around a lot longer

That he downdings even the most innocuous statement that either I or Kilgore make without even engaging in debate,,,,, well, talk about being a “two year old” or “back in high school”

(and btw ,, thats not a “whine”,, it’s a statement of fact. I could care less about downdings,, hence my pointing out to you that you missed one!!!!)

I don’t think he did. I think he started off with the intention of stealing a load of stuff and moving to a libertoonian paradise somewhere as a hero…he was in about the worst bargaining position imaginable with intelligence agencies who wouldn’t hesitate to put the screws to him, and he had exactly one thing to offer up to keep his neck.

The rest is history.

I would love to someday read about the details, any details, about Snowden’s days in the Moscow airport, especially how the KGB (or whatever it’s called now) got involved.

Now that I think about it, when Snowden was still in the airport, Putin’s public remark that Snowden was welcome to stay in Russia so long as “he stopped harming U.S. interests” may have been similar to his assurances to Chancellor Merkel that Russia wasn’t going to move into Crimea: a lie for the purpose of buying time.

I prefer to watch Air Crash Investigation videos on YouTube. Some of them are pretty fascinating, actually. One of my favorites was an episode called “Crash of the Century”, regarding the Tenerife Airport Disaster in 1977.

Until he’s slapped down, hard, by a GOP adult, he’s not fringe—he’s a standard-bearer. Goes for the rest of the loons, too. The party either owns them or disowns them.
