Breitbart “News:” Pat Dollard Should Not Call Himself a Contributor

So why is he listed as a columnist at Breitbart “News?”
Wingnuts • Views: 16,883

So, after genocide-lovin’ wingnut Pat Dollard tweeted yesterday that it was “time for Americans to start slaughtering Muslims in the streets,” Mother Jones contacted Breitbart “News” for comment, since Dollard’s Twitter profile says he’s a contributor for them. The response:

We asked the editor of Breitbart, Alex Marlow, and the site’s publisher, Stephen Bannon, for a comment on Dollard’s slaughter-Muslims tweet. Within minutes, Kurt Bardella, a spokesman for Breitbart News, called and said, Dollard “was not a paid contributor and has not contributed for three years. He should not call himself a contributor.” Asked if Breitbart would consider publishing future articles submitted by Dollard, Bardella replied, “We have no plans to accept anything. We haven’t ruled anything out. But he is not a Breitbart contributor.”

OK, fair enough. If Dollard hasn’t written for them in years, he should probably be called a “former contributor.”

But then, why is he still listed at Breitbart.com as a columnist?

In the real world, when someone is listed as a columnist for a website, that usually tends to mean he’s a columnist for that website.

But in any case, if anyone actually is tempted to doubt that Breitbart “News” supports and encourages this kind of ugly anti-Muslim hate speech, please note: hate group leader Pamela Geller is currently one of their featured writers. Currently. As in, right now.

breitbart.com isn’t fond of being fact-checked, either.

They’ve faithfully carried on the stie’s tradition, established by its namesake. He was a low-rent Rupert Murdoch, and his site has certainly stayed true to that.

If he’s no longer a contributor, then stop treating him as such. Drop his contributor page link, which Charles posted above. Instead, it looks like he’s still got an ongoing relationship with him.

But for them to claim he’s not involved shows that they don’t even know how their site operates - as in using the basic search feature in this instance (and not for the first time either).

So when does Dollard respond with a video of him having drug fueled pyromaniacal sex with former Breitbart staffers?

Woohoo - the new mobile version of LGF is really coming along. This is going to make the site so much more useable on a mobile device. It uses the latest responsive design techniques to automatically change the format of the site based on the device’s screen size. Those of you with smart phones are going to really like this.

Hopefully it means I can browse in, say, Dolphin Mini without having to constantly nudge the screen just to read. Boo to whoever designed that browser, also - no zoom is no good. And not every site has a mobile version, and certainly those that do don’t always make them easily accessible.

I know it’s the worst drought in CA since the Gold Rush; the governor has already called for a voluntary 20% water usage reduction statewide. There’s places in the north of the state that were down to double-digit day water supplies before the (small) rain we’ve gotten since the beginning of March or so. You drive by any of the reservoirs in the state and its desperately obvious.

But there’s nothing in the Morgan Hill rules to show that they were implemented recently and in response to the current drought, so I fail to see how they would specifically bode ill for Silicon Valley.

ROFL!!! yea, that about sums it up. But I bet you could get the catfish Fried OR Broiled.

My Dad (who’s in Florida now) has a great knack for finding the little “out-of-the-way” joints with great food. Last time I was there we went to a great little fish place, store front type place, maybe 6-8 tables, and a lot of carry out business. Great fresh fish, sides, cooked by people who knew what they were doing.

Morgan Hill, Calif., declares water supply shortage - city web site

Having dug around for a bit, I’ve finally found a story here with actual details:

Previously, the city council adopted a water supply shortage ordinance that addresses water waste and contains a number of ongoing everyday limits aimed at reducing water waste. A complete list of the ongoing limits is available online.

During a Level I condition, the following provisions apply:

• Obligation to fix leaks, breaks or malfunctions: All leaks, breaks, or other malfunctions in the water user’s plumbing or distribution system must be repaired within seventy-two hours of notification by the city unless other arrangements are made with the city.

• No washing down hard or paved surfaces: Washing down hard or paved surfaces is prohibited except when necessary to alleviate safety or sanitary hazards.

• Limited watering days: The city council has limited watering days to a maximum of three days per week, establishing Monday, Wednesday and Friday as watering/irrigation days from April through October. That will go down to one day - Wednesdays - in November.

They are not the only town to be doing this locally; Mountain View is considering this as well.

Then again, not terribly surprising when the Sierra snowpack is something like 20% of normal for this time of year.

Do you think they’re going to hire another CEO that supported Prop 8? I think it’s settled that’s not going to happen. Unlike Sully, I don’t blame the company. They are in the business of making money not becoming martyrs of free speech and tolerance. One of the many reasons I don’t care for these boycotts is it put businesses in the position to decide on free speech issues. I don’t want tech companies or soda factories the judges of what causes their employees can support.

Ross Douthat: The Terms of Our Surrender

Christians had plenty of opportunities — thousands of years’ worth — to treat gay people with real charity, and far too often chose intolerance. (And still do, in many instances and places.) So being marginalized, being sued, losing tax-exempt status — this will be uncomfortable, but we should keep perspective and remember our sins, and nobody should call it persecution.

But it’s still important for the winning side to recognize its power. We are not really having an argument about same-sex marriage anymore, and on the evidence of Arizona, we’re not having a negotiation. Instead, all that’s left is the timing of the final victory — and for the defeated to find out what settlement the victors will impose.

Indeed. The Prop 8 vote was 52.24% “yes” votes to 47.76% “no” votes. One would assume that would mean that somewhere in the neighborhood of 52.24% of Mozilla employees also voted to or endorsed repeal of same sex marriage rights.

Has there been a mass firing of Mozilla employees that I’ve missed?

So, I was shopping yesterday at the Target store in Allen Park, MI which is right next to Dearborn, and I found this Demonic Sharia Toy:

It looks kinda cute, I think it’s supposed to teach kids names of different animals, but I can imagine the freakouts and meltdowns amongst the usual crowd of idiots.

re: #173 GeneJockey

For decades I heard from the older kids that I’d never got the spank brush.

When my great grandmother finally passed away at 93, there were lots of stories about the shoehorn that used to get used.

Sure enough, someone found it and the morning of the service went around smacking everyone once with it.

She was then buried with a rose in one hand and the shoehorn in the other.

Nope. They are a business and should pay taxes just like any other business. They enjoy all the benifits of a modern society (police, fire, roads, ect) yet feel they don’t need to help pay for those services. Screw that shit.

In other news, I ordered some small balloons so I can make some paper mache eggs. I took one out and blew it up* as my younger cat, never having seen such a contraption, watched the process with intense curiosity.

I batted it over the table and let it fall to the floor so she could investigate. She immediately sprinted after it then pulled up short and spent about 10 minutes cautiously sidling up to it from different directions and sniffing at it. She finally got up the nerve to tap it a couple of times, but something about it weirded her out and she quit.

I’m wondering how long it’ll be before she (or the other one) really goes after it in earnest and it pops, scaring the hell out of them.

Libertarianism poisons everything.

re: #220 Dark_Falcon

You might be thinking of Paul Ryan, though I didn’t find Ryan’s words to be racist.

There are twice as many white poor in the US as black poor. Indeed, there are more poor Hispanics than poor blacks. Yet Ryan seems to think the poverty subculture that needs to be attacked is the one in the “inner city”, which is predominantly black.

Poor whites in KY, WV, LA, MS, AL, GA, etc, etc, share the same dysfunctional behaviors as their counterparts in urban areas, white or black. So, yes, focusing on the inner city reveals a form of racist thought. It doesn’t make Ryan a KKK member, or an evil man. He is what he is: a white guy who’s more likely to buy into stereotypes about blacks because his experiences with blacks are limited, and his ideas about blacks are shaped by the likes of racist right wing media (Fox, NRO, talk radio, dishonest intellectuals like Charles Murray, etc).

It’s worth adding here that the marker is the person animosity directed at the president. Its entirely within mainstream and decent bounds to oppose President Obama’s policies and decisions without making it personal. But for the haters whose views of things peripheral to the subject of their hatred can change at the drop of a hat, its far less about policy and much more about how they see Barack Obama as the “Evil and Scary Other”.

No doubt, but I guess I find more interesting the Balkanist, which keeps an eye on that part of the world. Turkey’s society and politics spills over across the channel and how Turkish society comes to terms with modernity and refurbished atavistic movements can affect its neighbors.

re: #229 Jocko’s Rocket Ship

I’m OK with Sullivan. His tendency to fall back on libertarian bullshit is annoying. Why does he take the Pauls the dipshit Megan McArglebargle seriously? But he has been more reflective of his positions than most. And the guy has the President’s back. He does it passionately, intelligently and eloquently, while many of his (former) peers went all wingnut.

And, to Sullivan’s credit, he copped to his mistakes in the early 2000’s, namely his early rabid support for the Iraq War. He now admits that the war was an ill-advised piece of adventurous nation building, and has apologized profusely over the years for his role in supporting it.

Unlike Cheney, Rumsfeld, Kristol, et al, who stubbornly hold on to the idea that the invasion will turn into a great success and history will vindicate them all. It’s actually kind of pathetic seeing old men like these three so in denial that they can’t even admit they made mistakes in Iraq. Just shows what a bitch reality can be when it bites you in the ass.

Ten years ago, along with the rest of us, these neocons were laughing at Baghdad Bob; now they’ve turned into Baghdad Bobs, telling us everything will be fine in Iraq while the country continues to burn in the background.

Photo of the day: ‘Rosie the Riveter’ sneaks a kiss with President Obama (VIDEO)

Image: tt.jpg

World War II’s hero on the home front ‘Rosie the Riveter’ got up close and personal with President Obama, and even managed to sneak in a hug from Vice President Joe Biden.

Women who worked in the shipyards during WWII, know as ‘Rosie the Riveters,’ made a significant impact on the war. They stepped up in a time of crisis and while their actions were once recognized, some of the Rosies feared their legacy may slip into the darkness. After years of requesting an audience at the White House, they finally got it, ABC reports.

One of the Rosies planted a kiss on Obama smack on the lips, and when confronted by a reporter, she said with a huge smile, “I did. That’s a Rosie for you.”

Sometimes war can have positive unintended consequences thousands of miles from where any actual combat took place.

The equal rights movements for blacks and women were buoyed by WWII. Men took women a bit more seriously, and whites started to look at blacks a bit differently. The payoffs mostly wouldn’t come until subsequent generations, but the ball was definitely advanced downfield by the likes of the Rosies and Tuskegee Airmen.

Iraq’s holding on, and what burning’s happened has been largely contained in Anbar Province. Moreover, Al-Maliki has worked to end the crisis in Anbar without massive bloodshed. That last alone marks a welcome change of pace from the brutality of Saddam Hussein.

The problem is that having admitted being wrong, and even going so far as to doing the self-examination necessary to know what his mistakes were, he then repeats them. And eventually acknowledges and apologizes, and repeats the cycle yet again.

Whether he’s being weak or coy, he gets no more consideration from me.

Problem remains that 1) we used to support him and 2) that brutality was equaled if not bettered by that of our “allies” in Chile and Argentina. I have a hard time believing the squeals of neo-con’s about the very real brutalities of Hussein’s sons when our governments congratulated those who did far worse things when they threw their rape victims out of helicopters an hour out over the Atlantic or herded people into stadiums for mass executions.

What Saddam and his sons did was quite real and it has been independently collaborated many times since 2003. Whatever hypocrisies some in America have engaged in, the fact remains that those three bastards needed killing.

I could make a comment about what your bishops could say about that, but I’ll stick it on myself instead. By my understanding of the lord’s teaching _no one_ NEEDS to die. That the world may be made better by a death is a very different and sad reality…

It’s kind of like how we Anglican’s look at confession - everyone can, some should, none must.

Unfortunately I think this is merely the continuation of a trend which won’t get much better soon. Regardless of the next president or his/her party, they too will be quickly demonized and accused of being a “polarizing figure.” You can already see this with Hillary, as well as the alleged GOP frontrunners like Christie, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, et al.

Partly I think it’s the inevitable result of living in a huge nation that’s still growing and becoming more diverse. And keeping some sense of unity will be one of our nation’s biggest challenges going forward.

262 teleskiguy  Apr 3, 2014 8:59:02pm

I don’t know if the following is an apt metaphor, but I’m gonna give it a college try.

The politics of Republicans now and Confederates then seem similar. The Confederacy doesn’t exist primarily because none of the leaders could agree on the politics and ideology. Bear in mind that the mountain counties along Appalachia hated Confederates. The Confederates themselves, at the end of the war, rethought their view on the viability of blacks, as they started supplying their army with black soldiers who 4 years earlier were slaves and only slaves.

Complete ideological disarray.

And that’s where we’re at with the politics of Republicans today. It indicates to me that what we know of as the Republican Party is probably on it’s way out. We’ll see how far right they go in November. I mean, here in Colorado, we had counties out on the eastern plains voting yes or no on secession from the state of Colorado last year!

Speaking of weird politics and policy in Colorado: Colorado town rejects plan to let residents shoot drones by a wide margin.

One year, for my birthday, my inlaws gave me one of those cards that plays music. In this case, it was a bunch of cats meowing the happy birthday song.

Our cats were so confused by this. Whenever I played it, one would come and start looking for the cats, meowing back at them.

I still have it somewhere.

There are wav files around of cats winding up for a cat fight. I’d play that and my two Siamese would start freaking out trying to find the cat(s) that wanted trouble.

The analogy makes sense. The Confederates were the most reactionary Americans of their day. Today’s Republicans, while not all reactionary, have the bulk of the nation’s far right wingers, nationalists and populists. The common thread is the south and its peculiar culture.

I can say that Operation IRAQI FREEDOM was a mistake and still argue in favor of supporting better-case outcomes in Iraq. Regardless of past mistakes, seeing Iraq’s Sunni Radical islamists defeated and that nation afterward having a period of genuine peace would be a positive good, and that positive good is worth speaking in its favor and its worth some material support, which President Obama has provided.

The battles of the past are over, but where Iraq ends up has yet to be decided and if the US can help Iraq end up in a decent place by providing the Iraqi government with material and diplomatic support, then we should do so.

Never pretend there is anyone who will give you that partial support without giving the enemy even more support. Until they willingly ally with you they must be presumed to be your enemy.

I’m talking about the mindset that labels people RINOs. Demanding 100% purity from party members is just unrealistic, and it kills any hopes of bipartisanship.
