Former CIA Director: Sen. Dianne Feinstein Is ‘Emotional’

The US intelligence community’s spokespeople are trying to get out in front of the release of a highly critical report on the CIA’s detention and interrogation programs (read: torture), but former CIA director Michael Hayden is not really helping with patronizing, sexist comments like this.

“That sense that the motivation for the report may show deep emotional feeling on the part of (Sen. Dianne Feinstein), but I don’t think it leads you to an objective report,” Hayden said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Pushed by Fox host Chris Wallace, Hayden said: “You’re asking me about a report that I have no idea of its content. No one responsible for that report has spoken a word… so it’s very hard for me to make a judgment.”

Anyway it’s not like anybody involved in the torture program is defending it with anything resembling logic, reason or actual evidence. In fact they deliberately burned the videos, against federal law, to cover up the specifics. That smacks of fear, and fear if anything is the emotion that drove the program from beginning to end.

My favorite moment in the entire debacle was when the old Ft. Hunt interrogators from WWII put their foot down about being used as props:

Back then, they and their commanders wrestled with the morality of bugging prisoners’ cells with listening devices. They felt bad about censoring letters. They took prisoners out for steak dinners to soften them up. They played games with them.

“We got more information out of a German general with a game of chess or Ping-Pong than they do today, with their torture,” said Henry Kolm, 90, an MIT physicist who had been assigned to play chess in Germany with Hitler’s deputy, Rudolf Hess.

Blunt criticism of modern enemy interrogations was a common refrain at the ceremonies held beside the Potomac River near Alexandria. Across the river, President Bush defended his administration’s methods of detaining and questioning terrorism suspects during an Oval Office appearance.

Several of the veterans, all men in their 80s and 90s, denounced the controversial techniques. And when the time came for them to accept honors from the Army’s Freedom Team Salute, one veteran refused, citing his opposition to the war in Iraq and procedures that have been used at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

“I feel like the military is using us to say, ‘We did spooky stuff then, so it’s okay to do it now,’ ” said Arno Mayer, 81, a professor of European history at Princeton University.

I ride and I accept a certain level of risk. That said, wear a helmet, leathers & proper boots & never ever trust that a car or truck is driven by someone sane or safe.

Mostly the danger is from other drivers, like you said. However I have a growing concern for the elderly cycle drivers out there. I know dozens of guys in their 60s still riding around on fatboys like they’re 20 years old.

The threat posed by veterans from Syria is “unprecedented”, according to Gilles de Kerchove, the EU’s counter-terrorism co-ordinator. The warning is made in written evidence to a Home Affairs Select Committee inquiry on counter terrorism, published last Tuesday.

“All the reports I have seen suggest that it is becoming increasingly acute,” he added.

“National budgets devoted to counter-terrorism are declining across the EU. Yet the threat that we face is becoming more diverse, more diffuse, and more unpredictable.”

absolutely. Any Canadian can easily name ten Lightfoot songs. “If you could read my mind” is a phenomenal song and I’ve also been partial to “Carefree Highway” and “Rainy day people”. The “Canadian railroad trilogy” is also great.

Well, that’s the funny thing. I’m trying to build my acoustic guitar chops so that in a year or so I can think about playing out. And rather than learning “Sundown,” I’d rather do “Early Morning Rain” and other stuff that would have a crowd going “wow, that song feels like something I’m supposed to know, but what the heck is it?” For non-guitar players, by the way, what he’s doing on guitar is way more complicated than it often sounds!

If anything, the exact opposite is true about Feinstein. She’s one of the most rational. calm, level headed, and moderate people in the US Senate. Yes, moderate.

The “emotional” one (i.e., bitchy female radical in Hayden’s eyes) is Barbara Boxer, Cali’s other Senator.

The only “radical” thing I can think Feinstein has done was her support for a bill that would have outlawed a mere handful of assault weapons. Woo hoo.

Couple of years ago they had a GREAT special that I haven’t seen them repeat since

1/2 rack of babyback ribs,,,,, (at least 6 bones and loaded with meat,,, and very good) ,,, 2 sides and a dessert for $9.95

The dessert they gave was on the menu al a carte for $5.95.
