New LGF Pages Feature: Attach a ‘Meta Image’ to Your Post

Get meta
LGF • Views: 19,082

Our free high-powered blogging system for registered users has a new feature today! To make sharing your LGF Pages on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ more interesting and appealing, we now let you upload an image (called the “Meta Image” because you don’t actually see it in the post here at LGF) that will be automatically recognized by sharing services when anyone tweets a link to your Page. Here’s what a meta image looks like in an embedded tweet, for a video I posted yesterday:

Pretty cool, eh? To upload an image from your computer for the meta image, all you have to do is drag and drop the image file onto the “Upload Meta Image” button in the LGF Pages editing window. On mobile devices, when you tap the button it prompts you for an image from your camera library.

Here’s what the new Meta Image button looks like in Mac OS:

In the screenshot above, the meta image has already been uploaded, so you see a blue link with a check box for it. If you click that link, the image pops up for viewing.

Note that the LGF Pages editing window automagically picks a meta image on some sites like YouTube or Vimeo, or if you include an image in your post, but you can change it to something else if you want.

If there’s already a meta image attached to the post and you decide you don’t want one after all, just uncheck the box before submitting the post.

Yeah, Firefox bug. It’s not properly resizing the iframe after the Twitter embed code runs. Can’t do anything about it, unfortunately.

Whatever problem you’re facing right now, someone else probably already went through it. And their advice and wisdom comes down to us through philosophy. It was jotted down by slaves and poets and emperors and politicians and soldiers and ordinary men and women to help with their own problems and with the problems of their friends, family and followers. This wisdom is there, available to us.

Excellent new feature. Thanks, Charles,

If anyone’s interested in some videos on Afghanistan, I just found 3 full-length documentaries that look good (I’ve only watched 5-10 minutes of each).

NatGeo: Lost Treasures of Afghanistan (2006)
Pretty upbeat, presents Afghans as people you can relate on a level beyond that of wretched victims and/or vicious fanatics and/or corrupt politicians.

Youtube Video

BBC: Addiction - Afghanistan’s Secret Shame (2013)
The addiction is brutal.

Youtube Video

Afghanistan: Outside The Wire (2010)
Produced by CPAC (a Canadian TV channel, not the conservative American PAC). Military journalist & writer dress as Afghans and head into Taliban country with camcorders.

Youtube Video

Apparently, the same guy has since done a follow-up documentary (in 2013) called “Afghanistan: Outside the Wire — End Game”, which you can view in full at the CPAC site:

Afghanistan: Outside the Wire - End Game, a new documentary reflecting on Canada’s 12-year mission in that country. As the Canadian military operation winds down, journalists Scott Taylor and David Pugliese venture outside the protected NATO compounds - outside the wire - to assess Canada’s contributions in Afghanistan and contemplate the country’s future.

cpac.ca

I’m embarrased that didn’t realize until I began watching this how much blood & treasure the Canadians contributed to this effort.

Red States in the South watch more gay male porn than blue states. No exceptions. You’ll actually have to read the first paragraph of the article in order to “discover” this fact.

pornhub.com, the third-largest porn site in the US and 51st largest site overall according to Alexa, made a bit of a stir last month when it found that every single Southern state searched more for gay male porn (as a share of total searches) than the states where gay marriage is legal

If true it’s not really surprising. Men attracted to men have better options outside of the closet in blue states and larger cities. It’s safer, there are more gay bars, apps like Grindr are more effective, etc. The South is still the Bible Belt, lots of religious and social pressure work to keep people in hiding. In most of those states there are no employment protections, gays can lose their jobs based on suspicion alone.

98 freetoken  Apr 21, 2014 5:23:58pm

Drawing a line implying a linear function, like this:

Image: ingraham_porn.png

is a bit misleading.

The circles on that graph imply two sets, somewhat disparate, but easily identified.

If you drop that line, and instead look at two sets, you see the blue set’s “Pornhub pageviews per capita” doesn’t really change with “Percent voting for Obama”.

And, the average of the blue set is a bit higher than the red set, but the standard deviations overlap greatly.

I think it is pretty obvious that the average self-declared-by-voting “liberal” states have fewer reservations about viewing porn, but not by that much.

Nevada range war: Western states move to take over federal land

In Salt Lake City Friday, representatives from Utah, Idaho, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, Oregon, and Washington met for a “Legislative Summit on the Transfer of Public Lands.”

“Those of us who live in the rural areas know how to take care of lands,” Montana state Sen. Jennifer Fielder said at a news conference. “We have to start managing these lands. It’s the right thing to do for our people, for our environment, for our economy and for our freedoms.”

……

“There is a distinct difference in the way federal agencies are managing the federal lands today,” Sen. Fielder said. “They used to do a good job, but they are hamstrung now with conflicting policies, politicized science*, and an extreme financial crisis at the national level. It makes it impossible for these federal agencies to manage the lands responsibly anymore.”

Red States in the South watch more gay male porn than blue states. No exceptions. You’ll actually have to read the first paragraph of the article in order to “discover” this fact.

You know, hate to be pedantic and all that, but …that’s not the exact same article.

You could comment about it being a variation on a theme, or whatever.

I mean, you did read both articles, right?

But strangely, blue states watch more total porn.

Right, that story just came out a few days ago. I assumed most people here were familiar with it by now.

Point is, those who would use THAT story to chastise the blue states or make some larger point about “sexual depravity” have conveniently ignored specific findings in such studies. This BS can be spun in many different directions, but to what end?

Red states and blue states both like looking at porn…it’s pretty much universal. Human beings like to eat, drink, and fuck (or at least imagine fucking). Pretty much true everywhere.

What does it even have in it? I’m a bit uncultured when it comes to foreign sports cars. An American big-block has a very distinctive sound that definitely gets my motor running, but the Lamborghinis that run around the lake up here don’t quite do it for me.

A V12, since it’s an Ferrari from when Enzo was still around.

Another great episode of Game of Thrones last night. I haven’t seen every episode and to plot is way too complicated but the characters and relationships are excellent. The female characters are exceptionally good and uniquely female. I also like how they don’t try to make characters likeable, they’re all kinda assholes just like real life.

I’d be interested to hear it. My experience with engines bigger than a V8 is extremely limited. The closest I’ve come to a bigger engine is a redneck friend of mine who had the V10 Dodge Ram. That didn’t last long.

The engine was only 4L, so not so much bigger as more numerous.

Bigger in cylinder count, since that’s what changes the frequency of the exhaust note. Inline and boxer 4’s, inline and V6’s, and V8’s of both crossplane and traditional varieties, yes; but the V10’s and V12’s are not motors with which I have had much acquaintance.
