Right Wing Heads Explode as Video of Rand Paul Bashing Ronald Reagan Surfaces

Rand Paul’s Reagan-worship exposed as a scam

David Corn has discovered video of Rand Paul, the crypto-libertarian Republican chip off of Ron Paul’s block, bashing the Republican Party’s most revered icon: WATCH: Rand Paul Says Jimmy Carter Was Better on the Budget Than Ronald Reagan.

As Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) ponders a presidential bid, he has lately made efforts to wrap himself in the banner of Ronald Reagan. In op-eds and speeches, the libertarian tea partier has increasingly invoked the Republicans’ most holy icon, especially after being attacked by members of his party’s establishment who have accused him of isolationism. Writing in the Washington Post last week, Paul likened his nuanced approach to foreign policy to what he claimed was Reagan’s embrace of “strategic ambiguity.” A few days earlier, at a so-called “Freedom Summit” in New Hampshire, Paul hailed Reagan as the last president who presided over the creation of millions of jobs, asserting that after the Gipper lowered tax rates, 20 million jobs were created and “more revenue came in.” (factcheck.org concluded that Paul was “falsifying evidence”—and ignoring that more jobs were created during President Bill Clinton’s tenure when tax rates went up.) But Paul hasn’t always cast himself as much of a Reagan fan. In fact, when he stumped for his father in 2008 and again when ran for Senate in 2010, Paul often referred to the grand old man of the GOP with a touch of disappointment and criticism. And he routinely made an assertion that might seem like blasphemy to many Republicans: President Jimmy Carter had a better record on fiscal discipline than Reagan.

In a variety of campaign appearances that were captured on video, Paul repeatedly compared Reagan unfavorably to Carter on one of Paul’s top policy priorities: government spending. When Paul was a surrogate speaker for his father, then-Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), during the elder Paul’s 2008 presidential quest, his sales pitch included dumping on Reagan for failing to rein in federal budget deficits. Standing on the back of a truck and addressing the crowd at the Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers picnic in July 2007, Rand Paul complained about Reagan and praised his father for having opposed Reagan’s budget:

The deficit went through the roof under Reagan. So how long did it take Ron Paul to figure out that the guy he had liked, endorsed, campaigned for, campaigned for him? The very first [Reagan] budget. Ron Paul voted “no” against the very first Reagan budget… Everybody loved this “great” budget. It was a $100 billion in debt. This was three times greater than Jimmy Carter’s worst deficit.

David Corn is the one who exposed Romney’s comments on how 47% of this country are parasites, right? He’s a national treasure.

2 HappyWarrior  Apr 23, 2014 10:36:44am

Silly Rand, you’re supposed to blame Jimmy Carter for all of the economic problems of the era and give Reagan credit for all its successes. Interested to see how he tries to weasel his way out of it though. Fact of the matter is though there will be backlash to Rand for not being one step in with the Cult of Reagan.

I thought that was Jimmy Carter’s grandson. This is a good find though. If Rand wasn’t such a self-righteous jerk in general and one who will surely try to weasel out of this, I’d actually give him grudging credit for condemning Reagan’s fiscal management. I don’t know how much this will hurt him though. There were clips a plenty of Mitt Romney when he ran for Senate in the early 90’s trying to distance himself from Reagan and H.W Bush and he still got the nomination.

No kidding. I think they give Reagan a pass by the way since he really legitimized their movement even if his administration’s actual practices were about as far as fiscally conservative could be. If Reagan had lost to Carter or Mondale, he’d get thrown under the bus the same way they do Nixon, Ford, and the Bushes. That and the right needed their own FDR/JFK type.

The Win 8.1 marathon download (~30 hours) completed last night. The setup contortions took another hour or so.
Start page is now the old-fashioned looking desktop instead of the miles of tiles and there’s a link to the tiles in the left side of the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. There’s an easier way to shut down when you’re on the tiles screen.
I’ll play around with it more tonight, but so far 8.1 appears to be a massive improvement over 8.

In other news, the Spring pollen allergy nightmare is easing somewhat but full bloom hasn’t begun yet, so there’s that.
Supposedly had a light frost this morning, but I was comatose until the sun rose. Blueberry bushes are happily blooming, however, so it must not have been much of a frost.

Jebus, another one!

“Clueless” star Alicia Silverstone has risked the wrath of parenting groups by sharing her controversial views on motherhood in a new book, in which she criticizes vaccination programs and claims women can boost fertility by ditching tampons and sugar.

“While there has not been a conclusive study of the negative effects of such a rigorous one-size-fits-all, shoot-‘em-up schedule, there is increasing anecdotal evidence from doctors who have gotten distressed phone calls from parents claiming their child was ‘never the same’ after receiving a vaccine. And I personally have friends whose babies were drastically affected in this way.”

Georgia Governor Signs ‘Unprecedented’ Gun Rights Bill

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal (R) signed a sweeping gun rights bill on Wednesday.

House Bill 60, also known as The Safe Carry Protection Act, will allow licensed gun owners to carry their firearms into public places, including bars, nightclubs, schools, churches and government buildings.

“People who follow the rules can protect themselves and their families from people who don’t follow the rules,” Deal said, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. “The Second Amendment should never be an afterthought. It should reside at the forefronts of our minds.”

I’d be more concerned with guns in bars in rural Georgia … and in the rowdy nightclubs around Atlanta. Or the almost-ubiquitous strip clubs. A couple of drunk knuckledraggers awash in hormones get into a dispute over who gets the next lap dance. Instead of going outside to briefly scuffle in the parking lot, they now have access to loaded weapons in a crowded room. Why, what could go wrong?

At some point, all the angry, paranoid wingnuts who feel the need to strap on a pistol so they can strut around and pretend to be a force of order in the world, are going to run into each other and make territorial displays. I’d dismiss the inevitable results of that as “evolution in action,” were it not for the tendency for stray bullets to hit people who are pretty much minding their own business. This is a fairly common occurrence in troubled, heavily armed areas of the 3rd World.

More rebranding:

The Republican-controlled Missouri House will begin impeachment proceedings against Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon on Wednesday. Why? There are three reasons, according to the state legislature’s judiciary committee. First, Nixon allowed legally-married same-sex couples in the state to file joint tax returns in order to keep the state consistent with the IRS’s post-Defense of Marriage Act policies. Second, Republicans argue Nixon took too long to call a special election to replace legislative vacancies. Third, Republicans believe that Nixon didn’t punish state officials enough over a controversy involving concealed carry permits.

So, will Nixon get impeached? It’s unlikely. Republicans control both the state’s House and Senate, but as the Washington Post notes, the bills probably won’t make it to a final vote in both houses of the legislature. Even if they did, the state constitution outlines that the governor can’t actually be removed from office unless five of seven state judges convict him.

The National Rifle Association has praised the bill as “the most comprehensive pro-gun reform legislation introduced in recent state history” and called it a “historic victory for the second amendment.” Americans for Responsible Solutions, a gun control organization started by former Rep. For this particular battle, which marked the beginning of the heresy, Loyalist troops were sent in first to take the planet and told to establish a beachhead for heavy weapons to be brought down later. Once they were engaged, Horus unleashed a biological weapon attack, killing the entire population of the planet and devastating the loyalist troops. The World Eaters then disobeyed Horus, didn’t wait for the orbital bombardment and chose to assault the remaining survivors on their own, staging a mass landing and full frontal assault.

Turning the US into a troubled, heavily armed third world state is pretty much the NRA agenda.

ha! You’re correct!

83 FemNaziBitch  Apr 23, 2014 11:39:00am
The problem here is obvious: the Court has basically said that an anonymous 911 call is sufficient all by itself to justify a police stop and subsequent search of a vehicle.

In this particular case, it’s likely that the 911 caller was entirely sincere. But that’s surely not always the case, and this decision gives police far greater discretion stop pretty much anyone they like for any reason. You don’t even need to roll your front bumper a foot over the limit line in an intersection to give them a pretext.

If we’re lucky, this case will become a footnote, with the precise nature of its facts giving it little value as precedent. But if we’re not so lucky, it’s yet another step in the Supreme Court’s decades-long project to chip away at the Fourth Amendment. When an unknown caller is all it takes to trigger a search, the entire notion of “probable cause” is pretty much consigned to the ash heap of history.

I don’t know how I feel about this.

My wife’s asthma has been awful this spring; she’s barely been able to breathe. She went to the doctor and got some steroids yesterday. Of course here in Frankfort we are at ground zero for the worst allergy region in the nation.

Get some local honey. One teaspoon a day will kick back most of the allergy problems. Normally I’m sneezing and have itchy red eyes right now. Since we’ve been eating local honey it’s like the pollen doesn’t exist ( until I look at my car in the morning).

She told one listener, Michael, that all Americans — not just Bostonians — are responsible for the looming attacks that she said will occur because the country has not paid enough attention God and is ignoring his moral laws. - See more at: rightwingwatch.org

So Sandy, please answer me this… when did God turn his back on us for not following moral law.

Was it when we systematically engaged in the destruction of Native Americans?

Was it when we enshrined in law the right of one person to own another person?

Was it when those people who WERE property were then denied their rights as citizens by law, by violence and by the institutions?

Was it when women were viewed as inferior to men, and given only partial rights?

I’d wait patiently for an answer, but I know you don’t have one.

re: #183 RealityBasedSteve

So Sandy, please answer me this… when did God turn his back on us for not following moral law.

Was it when we systematically engaged in the destruction of Native Americans?

Was it when we enshrined in law the right of one person to own another person?

Was it when those people who WERE property were then denied their rights as citizens by law, by violence and by the institutions?

Was it when women were viewed as inferior to men, and given only partial rights?

I’d wait patiently for an answer, but I know you don’t have one.

Seriously, that’s what disgusts me most about them too. They think that their idea of God would have tolerated what you mention but will destroy our country over something like giving gay and lesbian couples the same rights as heterosexual ones. As I said, her mindset to me is really no different from Bin Laden’s. I really do think that the Religious Right is perhaps the most dangerous political movement in the country along with the anti-vaxxers.

Yeah it’s not. I am really nervous about the Congressional primary here with Wolf retiring. Wouldn’t shock me at all if the GOP nominates Bob Marshall for the seat and he could well win since this district is much more red than Connolly and Moran’s.

Even though, if they truly were dealing with a tyrannical government, they wouldn’t have sent federal agents, they would have rolled in the Army and simply shot anyone who got in the way. And Bundy would not be sitting on his fat ass, laughing to the press, he’d be sitting a jail cell while awaiting trial where the guilty verdict is never in doubt.

i’ve double checked the dictionaries recently and it seems ‘socialism’ continues to mean something other than what these morons think it means

Several years ago on a politics and current events forum I used to hang at, some one from the UK asked, “Why do Americans get so freaked by socialism?”

My reply? “In America socialism is a codeword for unfettered evil! (Add a cool reverb and sound effect to get the right meaning.)” Yes I even coloured the same words because in America ‘socialism’ appears in people’s minds in shades that are evocative of wickedness.

She finally understood.
