Sean Hannity and the Great Bundy Love Fest and subsequent fire drill from the burning building formerly known as Cliven Bundy will be a trove of timeless treasure for the wit of Jon Stewart. This is a comedy shows writers dream. Priceless.

2 Targetpractice  Apr 24, 2014 5:02:50pm

You really couldn’t have written a better ending to this mini-feud. Hannity brought this on himself, and we know he doesn’t have the balls to do more now than run from it. He bet the farm on Bundy no embarrassing and he lost. I don’t think he has it in himself to admit as much and apologize for the way he’s acted over the past two weeks.

Here’s a comment from a Mona who loves Hitchens the way Mona H. loves Greenwald. Low commant total, and I only saw 9 of them. No LGF criticism. In fact, she mentions ‘Islamic lunacy’.

Moreover, Hitchens has long been close friends with Salman Rushdie, and it was when the jihadists issued their murderous fatwa on his pal that Hitchens first began to really take a look at Islamic lunacy. In particular, he was less than impressed with the literary set which, even back then, seemed all too interested in “undersanding” what about Rushdie’s work was offensive to the Muslims.

Buddha tattoo woman flies from Sri Lanka ‘with apology’

A British tourist arrested in Sri Lanka because she had a Buddha tattoo on her arm said she has been offered a holiday in the country “as an apology”.

Naomi Coleman will arrive in London later, following a deportation order, as a court refused her permission to continue travelling to The Maldives.

Police said she was arrested for “hurting others’ religious feelings” when she arrived at the airport in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on Monday.

The holiday offer was made as she left.

48 wrenchwench  Apr 24, 2014 5:43:02pm

Oooh, she’s a lawyer. Could be her.

#89, I also am a lawyer and affirm that the Killian Estate has no standing to sue; as you say, the dead cannot be defamed.

However, General Staudt AND George Bush have grounds to sue. Bush won’t, because he has taken the high ground, and it would be a meaningless distraction if he is reelected.

However, and tho I am not a prosecutor, I strongly suspect there must be applicable state and federal (and military) penal provisions that cover forging documents purported to be written by a member of the military in that capacity.

I’m curious to know exactly what was such a disaster. MNSure, Minnesota’s health care exchange, has been humming along with nary a blip (no stories of its epic failure have surfaced that I’m aware, though there were some acknowledged slowdowns around the deadline) and signed up a fairly significant number of people. It can be done right if people really want to.

i can’t imaging why setting up a website could be such an overwhelming problem in this day and age

the hardest part, as far as i can make out, is where the frontend communicates the information to the ins companies, since you need to interface the front end to various and sundry remote legacy systems that might be cranky and/or need coddling. but many ins companies are national these days and surely minnesota and other states could share lessons learned where applicable in this regard

I worked at a place that had an out of control manager doing things like that. When I complained I got handed walking papers for my troubles. They crashed and burned within 2 years after that. The burnt shell that remained was bought out and treaded water for a year or two longer before the building was sold and they auctioned everything in it. It wasn’t that it was done, but how:

Archaeologists, however, said that all hopes of future study had been lost because developers had destroyed the geologic record by moving all of the items to an undisclosed location, and then paving them over.

Confidentiality agreements prevented researchers from discussing the site, until word got out at a Society for California Archaeology symposium in Visalia earlier this year. But by then, it was too late.

The Chronicle described what was lost as the “largest, best-preserved, most ethnologically rich American Indian site found in the Bay Area in at least a century.”

“It should have been protected,” UC Davis professor of archaeology Jelmer Eerkens explained. “The developers have the right to develop their land, but at least the information contained in the site should have been protected and samples should have been saved so that they could be studied in the future.”

And as for Mr. Bundy, let me just say this:

Pro-tip for wingnuts: Someone who begins his discourse by speaking about “The Negro” (or “The Mexican” or “The Chinaman” or similar turn of phrase) is not someone you want to support.

It always reminds me of those goofy “mental hygiene” films they used to inflict on school kids in the 50s and 60s, that lent themselves so easily to Mystery Science Theater 3000-style mockery.

We can almost hear the projector ratcheting away as the warbly music fades in…

“THE JOY OF BEING POPULAR”

What makes one person more popular than the next person? That’s what Judy’s trying to find out. Judy wants to be popular among her classmates at school. Judy observes her surroundings during the school day. She notices that lots of people like to visit with Mary during the lunch period and between classes. Gee! Mary sure is popular!

By observing Mary, Judy learns that The Popular Girl is always well-groomed and has good posture. Judy notices that one of her shoes is untied, and well…. she’s just not standing up quite as straight as she could. Judy realizes now that these are the sorts of things The Popular Girl always remembers to do.

His viewer that was captured on his way to kill people at the Tides Foundation was sentenced recently too. He may have had a genuine change of heart but he was the pinnacle of this era of ugly hyper partisanship and political hate. I’m starting to see signs that the public has burned out a bit and more reasonable and thoughtful politics may be the new fad. Beck is probably just spiffing up his image for marketing purposes.

I think the implosion of right wing support for Bundy proves the wisdom of the strategic retreat by the BLM. If things had escalated, all we would be hearing about this week would be the “tyrannical” BLM and the “martyrs” at Bundy’s ranch.
Instead we have the spectacle of GOP politicians and media figures backpedaling like crazy, and the brilliance of Jon Stewart’s takedown of Hannity and Bundy.

They have this fantasy that “the left” spends our days doing all we can to make the right look bad. When in reality, the right pretty much writes their own script. In this case, personal responsibility would mean the loss or reduction of Sean Hannity’s lucrative position, since it would mean admitting he was dead wrong and that liberals might have a point, whereupon much of his audience would desert him, since they watch his show to reinforce what they already ‘know’.

There’s a whole cottage industry of “Thank a Farmer” memes that run the gamut from simple thank yous to the more martyr-flavored “Thank a Farmer or Choke on the Beef You Eat,” and Bundy’s trying desperately to hook a ride on any of those memes he can.

Most farmers’ and ranchers’ expenses in the livestock industry are land (their farm) to graze their animals and/or livestock feed they purchase from suppliers. This is one reason they claim when their feed prices rise, like corn or soybeans, or taxes on their farms increase, or the cost of gas or labor, so does the cost of whichever animal they’re selling as food. In Bundy’s case, he’s getting both the land and animal feed for free, but still wants to be acknowledged for his ‘selfless’ contributions to the consumer food market. It’s double bullshit.

This x100. Bundy’s statements are bog-standard GOP ideology on race, and the same sentiments can be seen every day from GOP elected officials, NRO writers, RW leaders etc., etc.

The only thing with Bundy is that he expressed these ideas so crassly that their inherent racism made it through the several meters of lead shielding the US media uses to pretend that the dog whistles don’t mean what they mean.

I’ll never understand why conservative whites think they have any compelling arguments to make on the subject of race and prejudice. Historically they have been the ones to do the discriminating, to exercise their bigotry from a position of power. The idea that blacks have been re-enslaved by liberal big government hand outs and “free stuff” is so massively insulting, intrinsically racist and idiotic that it’s amazing anybody could ever make it with a straight face.

Black people in America have lived generation after generation after generation dealing with the often violent consequences of actual, practiced racism by whites and white societal power structures. Only a goddamned tool would be so openly patronizing as to imply that black people are so lazy and stupid as to be re-enslaved by the pittance offered by welfare, minimum wage jobs and food stamps.

Yeah, it can be rough in the really bad days. I am one who feels cold in my house if it is 80 degrees, so I don’t run up obscene bills. I also have a huge portable evaporative “swamp” cooler which really works well for the first half of summer when the humidity is low. I work at home now, so I can wear shorts or nothing to work every day, and take a dip in the pool whenever it gets too warm. But, it is a 3.5 month period of hell, however, the rest of the year makes up for it. This last winter was so mild, we had only one frost, my bananas and papayas lost a few leaves…beats the hell out of what the rest of the nation went through.

re: #220 The War TARDIS

I saw an article in The Slate asking, “Is it racist to want to date only people of your own color?”.

I did not bother reading it, as the question seems irrelevant: What does racism have to do with matters of personal preference in your private life, especially involving love, marriage, family and intimacy?

Nobody has a right to be your spouse or girlfriend; It is, however, a much different matter when it comes to other issues such as being denied service in a public business, or receiving preferential or discriminatory treatment in a job or housing/loan application based on race.

222 freetoken  Apr 25, 2014 12:30:23am

re: #221 Wendell Zurkowitz (slave to the waffle light)

Yeah, this article by Reihan Salem:

Is It Racist to Date Only People of Your Own Race?

Things like this are published with the intent on pushing hot buttons to generate comments, even if those comments tend towards the derp. And indeed, they’re up to 2107 comments, many full of derp.

Reihan being Reihan, has to throw this in, which I suspect is the ulterior motive:

We could make an effort to eliminate in-group favoritism, but such an effort would inevitably fail, as in-group favoritism is a powerful human impulse. A more sensible course of action would be to do our part to expand the boundaries of the in-group. And by doing our part, I mean doing more than piling on when some minor celebrity or politician is accused of racism, or holding “rednecks” in casual contempt for their (supposedly) backward views.

Reihan has for a while made his bed with National Racists Online and tip-toes around the most obvious of idiocies and hypocrises over there.

That in his latest Slate column he fails to even broach the question of the validity of the concepts of “race” which most people believe demonstrates that he doesn’t really want to address the hard problems.

That he proposes the best solution to racism is not

voting “the right way.”

but rather intermarriage quickly runs into counterexamples, none more so than Salem’s once upon a time cohort at NRO, Derbyshire, who has an Asian wife.

Slate exists to make money for Graham Holdings Company and for them an author like Salem, who can generate thousands of comments from likely a hundred thousand views, is a tool for business.

Many of the comment writers on that piece swallow Salem’s diversion whole. He’s got them arguing over whether they find people different from themselves as attractive, as well as having victim-posers whining about be called “racists”.

Salem’s piece is an art of diversion, as indicated about what he said about voting.

It’s kind of a dick statement to make, no matter who’s making it. I had a black friend who made that statement once, and it was true, he only dated white women. I told him the same thing, who he likes dating is his business but it’s a dick statement because there’s almost always some underlying stereotype that such preferences are based on. Usually that black women are hard, loud, gold digging, etc. I don’t care what kernel of truth a person thinks it’s based on that shit is tired.

People can and should date who they like, but they should also keep their exclusionary dumbfuckery to themselves.

I am very sensitive about political correctitude when it applies to official speech and language, and when it applies to how rights and privileges are granted in the public sphere.

But anywhere else, it is a matter of personal choice.

It does not help, though, that the Internet has made the private sphere a public place: if somebody wants to dress in an SS outfit or wear blackface at a gathering , that is their own affair, but you can almost count on it appearing on FB or Twitter and causing a big blowup.

The country could probably stand to have a realistic discussion about use of federal land, the funding of enforcement agencies such as the BLM, and the applicable laws regarding fees, usage, mineral rights, improvements, etc.

Wasn’t going to happen in the current political climate. And Bundy was not the case to use to initiate the discussion.

Mostly that we should charge a shitload more for mineral rights.

Among other things. One reason the discussion is not being had is that a bunch of interests know that if anything is done it will involve a tightening of the rules regarding mineral and timber exploitation. And, in my opinion, the declaration of national parks and national monuments has basically been used to prevent some of this exploitation in sensitive areas.

The whole “It’s not about Bundy!” business is a joke and not a very funny one. It was always about Bundy, from the moment he called out to the militia nutters to come stand with him, to the moment the Hannity crowd started pleading his case. Loesch put up a list yesterday of other people who are “just like Bundy,” but I doubt you’d find any of them listed in the major media earlier than last week. Bundy was the epicenter and to deny that is to insult the intelligence of those us who’ve been following this shit for over a week now.

Just thought I’d stop by for a minute and let you know they removed my son from life support yesterday. He is in a hospice room where he is on a morphine drip and oxygen, but is not being fed; they’re just making him comfortable. We were told that the cause of death will be apoxia, or lack of oxygen to the brain, which occurred when he had cardiac arrest Sunday morning. His internal organs will stop functioning altogether, but he is able to breathe on his own pretty well. It seems like it’s a conflicted situation, but we were told that he had suffered irreversible brain damage, even though his body appears to be functioning all right on the outside. I’m beginning to think that his liver might have already been failing for the last month or so, and caused the cardiac arrest, but he didn’t want to tell us, although he had hinted something was wrong. They said at the hospital it had failed completely and they also said his kidneys were failing as well when they took him off life support.

My granddaughter and I spent the night with him last night and it’s been heartbreaking. Just came home to an empty apt (my g-son and gg-son spent the night w/friends) and we’ll all gather at the hospital today since we don’t know when he will pass away. We’re all holding up pretty well; we’ve done a lot of crying each day, but it’s a bit of relief. Everyone at the hospital has been wonderful, competent, professional. So, we’re appreciative of everyone’s kind thoughts as we get through this ordeal. : )

It will simply never dawn on them that greedy bastard execs at the top giving themselves and each other million dollar paychecks does nothing for the economy. The rich in this country simply do not spend enough of their wealth to drive the sort of demand that keeps the economy growing. I think that’s what’s been most telling about all of this, that the people who actually know what it’s like to deal with the BLM and raise cattle in Nevada have either A) refused to weigh in on the whole mess or B) have voiced opposition to Bundy’s foolishness. Which really runs against the bit we’ve heard since Day One, which was that he’s the “last man standing,” that the BLM purposefully put all the ranchers in the area out of business, and that they’ve a reputation there for screwing over ranchers who are just barely making a living.

So many of these militia/Tea Bagger/originalist gun huggers have such an incredibly childish view of both the world and responsible gun ownership.

That’s the thing, when you actually look at the facts of the case, it becomes ridiculous to hear the man whining that he’s being charged too much. And that’s really what this is all about, that in 1993 the BLM changed the formula under which grazing fees are calculated, Bundy disapproved, and he decided that he’d just start grazing for free instead of paying.

The greedy kind. It’s why none of the other ranchers have come to his aid, because they’ve been paying the fees despite any opposition to the increases. And, lo & behold, the fees came down after ranchers raised a fit to Congress. But Bundy decided he was already hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt to the BLM before he began paying his fees again, so he’d just challenge their authority in the courts instead. It’s the classic tale of a deadbeat, already deep in debt, choosing to take the debt collectors to court out of some vain hope that he could get the courts to wipe away the debt.

Correctamundo! He was fine with paying the grazing fees up until the BLM changed the formula and land use rules (which they could do as owners of the land). Once they did that, Bundy decided that he wouldn’t pay them but continued grazing.

I’m so very, very sorry you’re going through this. As the mother of a 30-year-old I shudder to even imagine it. Sending you lots of prayers & kind thoughts.

Jay, who served as vice-president (1816-21) and president (1821-27) of the American Bible Society,[30] believed that the most effective way of ensuring world peace was through propagation of the Christian gospel. In a letter addressed to Pennsylvania House of Representatives member John Murray, dated October 12, 1816, Jay wrote, “Real Christians will abstain from violating the rights of others, and therefore will not provoke war. Almost all nations have peace or war at the will and pleasure of rulers whom they do not elect, and who are not always wise or virtuous. Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest, of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”[31] He also expressed a belief that the moral precepts of Christianity were necessary for good government, saying, “No human society has ever been able to maintain both order and freedom, both cohesiveness and liberty apart from the moral precepts of the Christian Religion. Should our Republic ever forget this fundamental precept of governance, we will then, be surely doomed.”[32]

My question to that shit is, if the cost of things is so tied to wages that raising min wage will cause prices to rise, why didn’t the prices drop on items that were made overseas by cheaper labor when the companies moved their operations there?

I asked this of a Werner ladder big wig when they were moving operations to Mexico from my hometown. He said the labor and regulations were better for them to lower the cost of production. So I asked him if the price of the ladder would come down. A funny look was my answer. Why does this marriage of wages to price only work in one direction?

They are probably brainwashed into thinking that the move was necessary to NOT raise the price of the ladder. If the price is too high, no one will buy a ladder.

The idea of those at the top (shareholder value) be asked to lower their take is unimaginable.

re: #337 Wendell Zurkowitz (slave to the waffle light)

The story has been getting some airtime on the NYC metro news, but at least one report interviewed a Jewish student who’s saying it isn’t anti-Semitic because they’re involved in distributing the flyers.

Umm… no.

It’s anti-Semitic because it’s targeting the a group because of their religious and ethnic affiliation, and it’s purposefully designed to frighten and scare the recipients. And while NYU is so far claiming that Jews weren’t targeted by the flyers, it does appear that the dorms where they were distributed under doors, does have a higher than average number of Jews residing there (and the dorm has a Shabbat elevator too).

And also because the underlying reason (that Israel does it against Palestinians in a similar fashion, and that it is somehow illegal under international law) isn’t quite accurate either.

This is a worrying trend on college campuses as other schools around the country have had similar incidents in the past year. Our Shul is holding an event to alert parents and college age-students about the situation, and what they can do to counter them.

As the ADL notes, while Israel does engage in some evictions, there is a legal process to conduct the evictions, and demolitions are done when those involved are engaging in activities against Israel’s security (like allowing terrorists to use the location for smuggling, weapons preparations, etc.).

Oh, there’s no doubt they did damage to the law with the name, as polls have shown time and again that if you call it the ACA and describe the things it does, people support it, but that support evaporates if you call it Obamacare. But the more people the law helps, the more that people will take pride in the name.

Something very important about ACA that doesn’t get any attention is the fat that those of us who already had health insurance reaped huge benefits from the removal of pre-existing conditions.
How quickly people forget about how some insurance companies almost always charged higher premiums and had waiting periods of up to two years before covering said pre-existing conditions.
There were other immediate benefits from ACA, but the pre-existing conditions part is, in my mind, probably the biggest one.

Founder’s Quotes says it’s real - and the full quote is actually worse.

Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.

It is to be regretted, but so I believe the fact to be, that except the Bible there is not a true history in the world. Whatever may be the virtue, discernment, and industry of the writers, I am persuaded that truth and error (though in different degrees) will imperceptibly become and remain mixed and blended until they shall be separated forever by the great and last refining fire.

I’m kind of surprised that the wingnut didn’t include the Bible bit.

John Podesta is on White house staff now. He should be media savvy enough to know that our diplomats behaving like Suey Park just looks bad. Obama keeps pretty tight message control in his administration, he could crack down.

MrBWS is off to our local sheriff’s office and county clerk to see if a particular annoyance can be resolved.
He keeps getting pulled over because the license plate on his truck keeps getting “pinged” for someone who has arrest warrants. It always gets sorted out quickly that husband is not the nefarious person. The police always apologize but the last officer told him that this will likely continue because the incorrect information is already in the system and there’s no way to remove or fix it. (!!!)
But, in addition to being an annoyance, there’s the possibility that one day it might turn out to be a very bad outcome.
So, he’s thinking that maybe just getting a new plate might be a solution.

Is it the license plate registration that is the problem, or is it a duplicate or similar name and local that is causing him to be stopped? If it is his name that is shared with the wanted one, license plate might not be enough…unless they can put in extra notes to the new plate saying that this (name) is not the person you are looking for.

An association of Russia’s largest Internet companies will create an Edward Snowden online media award named after the fugitive U.S. security leaker to honor journalists’ achievements, the association’s chief said.

Russian Electronic Communications Association head Sergei Plugotarenko said Thursday that his group — which includes more than 100 of Russia’s largest online companies, such as mail.ru, Yandex, and news agencies Interfax, RIA Novosti and Ekho Moskvy — has “received official permission from Snowden” to use his name in the award, lenta.ru reported.

The association’s spokeswoman Yekaterina Vorobyova said the award will honor accomplishments in civic journalism, breaking news reporting and in a number of other still-to-be-determined categories.

It’s the license plate ping that’s the problem. Once the officer physically runs the plate, everything is OK. The bad guy’s name is totally different.

One of the fun things to do with history is to point out that the decline of Rome started when it became a Christian empire under Constantine. (It’s equally valid to say it started when they moved the capital from Rome to Nova Roma (later known as Constantine’s city aka Constantinople). But less fun.)

Quinn Campaign Silent on Support for Nazi Article
Jewish leaders demand Illinois governor publicly apologize

Illinois Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn is ducking questions about his campaign’s promotion of a controversial article comparing black Republican voters to Jews who collaborated with the Nazis.

Quinn found himself engulfed in controversy on Wednesday after the Washington Free Beacon revealed that his campaign had urged backers several times via Twitter to read the article. The tweets were later deleted after some in the Jewish community expressed outrage.

Now Jewish leaders are calling on Quinn to publicly distance himself from the controversy and apologize to both the Jewish and black communities.

The controversy hinges on the Quinn campaign’s promotion of a Chicago Sun Times article by writer Neil Steinberg that compared black supporters of Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner to Jews who collaborated with the Nazis against their brethren.

“As a general rule, individuals will sell out the interests of their groups in return for personal benefit,” Steinberg wrote in his column, which claimed that Rauner is buying off the black community and its leaders. “It isn’t just a black thing. Jews collaborated with the Nazis during World War II, helping them to round up their own people in the hopes they’d be the last to go.”

The Quinn campaign then tweeted—and later deleted—several messages praising the piece and urging backers to read it.

Quinn is scheduled Thursday night to be the “guest of honor” at an even honoring the victims of the Holocaust, according to a copy of the invitation obtained by the Free Beacon.

The event, which is being organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Chicago, will feature Quinn as well as a discussion about Polish efforts to save Jews from the Nazis.

One Chicago-based Jewish community leader who learned of the event expressed outrage when approached by the Free Beacon.

“I find it absolutely outrageous that Pat Quinn thinks he can diminish Holocaust victims for political gain one day and then honor their memory the next,” said the source, who requested anonymity in order to speak freely. “Governor Quinn needs to clearly state an apology for these tweets during tonight’s event.”

Jewish leaders, black community members, and Illinois political insiders all expressed outrage at what they described as the Quinn campaign’s callous behavior.

Calls to the Quinn campaign on Wednesday and Thursday were not returned.

License plate problem solved.
In Kentucky, the plate stays with the vehicle when ownership changes within the Commonwealth. (If transfer is outside of state lines, the plate is removed and turned into the DMV.)
Turns out that the bad guy was the previous owner of husband’s truck (which husband purchased several years ago via a local used dealership). Sheriff’s office pinged the plate and, yes, bad guy showed up on the ping.
So, $6 for a new plate and license registration. He should be good to go now.

re: #495 klys

Well, apparently the lawsuit deals with the four companies agreeing not to hire from the other companies and poach talent. That would let them keep certain people locked up in their jobs, depress the wages across the board, and limit where people could go to similar high performing companies.

Had it gone to trial, the companies stood to potentially lose $3 billion (or $9 billion in punitive damages), but the plaintiffs could have lost on appeal if the appellate level found that they shouldn’t have been certifiable as a class.

From what I understand, that’s a common refrain at a lot of the big Silicon Valley companies.

Google is just a giant traffic generating monster sucking up all in its path.

Apparently their interview process is kind of hellish and they take their sweet time getting back to you with an answer.

I don’t know their interview process, but the last company I worked for was based in Mountain View and was close to Google HQ. Google had even bought up all the buildings around that company and were making a play for it when I got laid off. Heard through the grapevine later that they bought the building and that my former company will have to move, but they’ve got a few years before they need to be out.

There is an old Junkers-52 trimotor that does panorama flights over the Rhine valley. I can hear those big 900-hp Jumo motors rumbling from miles away, I always go out to watch it glide over.

LOL no. When branding experts are brought into a show as established as Meet The Press, it has nothing to do with your strengths and everything to do with trying to salvage a show that’s clearly circling the drain.

It used to be ‘can’t miss TV’ for me for years. Now, if I miss it, I didn’t miss anything. Lot’s of times I start to watch and then just say screw it. Gregory is just terrible. For me it has nothing to do with left/right/liberal/conservative just the fact that he is lousy at interviewing. There is no meat on the bones. And when he thinks he is being tough it comes off like he is just being smarmy.

I’d say the libertarian dudebro thinking is just regular old business thinking. You treat well those employees who are hardest to replace and on whom the business most depends. You treat like this those who can be easily replaced. Meanwhile, you try to find a way to reduce the leverage of the ones you treat well so you can treat them like shit, too, because the more employees you can treat like shit the more profit you make.

It’s not even evil. It’s just capitalism, as it ACTUALLY works.

Yep.

Between 9 and 11am, the exit is …slow. Very, very slow.

My main complaint about the freeways out here is that the concept of a longer on-ramp has been abandoned in the face of NO SPACE so instead you just get dumped right into the traffic at 65 and it turns out my car doesn’t accelerate that fast.

Not to mention the ones where the off ramp overlaps the on ramp and you have to merge with car decelerating from 70+ while you’re at your slowest and they’re at their fastest.

There used to be a small airline that flew from Sandusky Ohio to the Ohio controlled Lake Erie islands. Island Airlines…go figure! They had three in operation and used daily. Uh, wait a minute. First, I would have thought you were past the point of trusting anything the Free Beacon says without double checking.

If you follow the link to this column they’re screaming about, you’ll find out that he didn’t “compare” black Republican voters to Nazis. He listed several examples from history of people acting against their own best interests. Was it in poor taste, yes. Was it comparing black voters to Nazis? That’s ridiculously false.

And these Jewish leaders who are demanding apologies from Gov. Quinn?

One Chicago-based Jewish community leader who learned of the event expressed outrage when approached by the Free Beacon.

“I find it absolutely outrageous that Pat Quinn thinks he can diminish Holocaust victims for political gain one day and then honor their memory the next,” said the source, who requested anonymity in order to speak freely. “Governor Quinn needs to clearly state an apology for these tweets during tonight’s event.”

Jewish leaders, black community members, and Illinois political insiders all expressed outrage at what they described as the Quinn campaign’s callous behavior.

What do you know - they’re anonymous.

The Free Beacon is a right wing smear machine. Never trust them.

Even when it’s slow, it’s the fastest way to get to work. When it’s stop and go, not so much. And in the evenings, I’d say about 50% of the time I take 380/280/92, even though it’s significantly more miles.

I started working in South City in 1982, and at that time it definitely was still the case that traffic ran from the ‘burbs to the City in the AM, and back in the PM. Now that has largely reversed, although traffic in general is heavier going everywhere.
