Rand Paul: “You Go to a Republican Event and It’s All White People”

Simple truths stated by a liar

Apparently, we’re now supposed to forget that Rand Paul once said he would have opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

And we’re not supposed to draw the obvious conclusion that he’s trying to capitalize on the Bundy Ranch mess, either.

Making the GOP slightly more libertarian is just part of Paul’s recent mission to broaden the Republican Party. The senator reiterated his message that it also needs to look different in terms of race and age.

“You go to a Republican event and it’s all white people—not because we’re excluding anybody, but because we just haven’t done a good enough job encouraging people to come into our party.”

Oh no. No, no, no. It’s not because they’ve excluded anybody. What would ever give anyone that idea?

Outreach, people. Outreach.

Does the GOP really want all those people who, let’s face it, were better under slavery?

Jeez, Rand. You’re slow. You just noticed that now?

We just haven’t done a good enough job of tricking people into working against their own best interests!

The GOP will accept any votes in its favor, even from minorities etc., but will make no effort at all to deal with its massive bigotry problem.

So I suppose it’s technically true that there are no “Whites only” signs at the door, but that really doesn’t count for very much these days.

Didn’t Rand do some pretty horrible whitesplaining to an audience of African American college students awhile back?

Anyone remember or got a link?

7 Lidane  Apr 25, 2014 6:15:29pm

Dismissing over half the country as moochers, lazy freeloaders and dirty, filthy sinners who just want a government handout is kind of a turn off, Rand.

Also, that whole pandering to the Posse Comitatus nutjobs, the sovereign citizens, and the yahoos who are stupid enough to think that a bunch of hunters and neckbeards with AR-15s could overthrow the government is a problem too.

8 goddamnedfrank  Apr 25, 2014 6:15:37pm

Dear GOP,

You can’t encourage people to come to your side until you stop incorporating massively insulting and patronizing ideas about them into your core ideology.

Dear GOP,

You can’t encourage people to come to your side until you stop incorporating massively insulting and patronizing ideas about them into your core ideology.

Especially when said core ideology is often seen as a diversion from the underlying intent of the GOP to enable the top 0.01% to rob everyone else blind.

To opine that blacks may have been better off under slavery (per Bundy and, more significantly, a standard conservative talking point) cannot be regarded as mere ignorance.

I assume that the republicans are legitimately at a loss. I can imagine them looking and saying:

We have Justice Thomas, we had Michael Steele run the RNC, we had Herman Cain run for President, we had Condi Rice as SoS, we have Tim Scott as a senator and they still won’t take us seriously?!?!

They are so lost that there is no place to even start to tell them where they are wrong.

Haven’t seen this linked here yet.newyorker.com

Republican politicians blasted the Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy on Thursday for making flagrantly racist remarks instead of employing the subtler racial code words the G.O.P. has been using for decades.

“We Republicans have worked long and hard to develop insidious racial code words like ‘entitlement society’ and ‘personal responsibility,’ ” said Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky). “There is no excuse for offensive racist comments like the ones Cliven Bundy made when there are so many subtler ways of making the exact same point.”

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul remarked on President Obama’s decision to publicly support same-sex marriage by saying, “Call me cynical, but I wasn’t sure his views on marriage could get any gayer.”

The comments by the Republican lawmaker from Kentucky drew big laughs at a gathering sponsored by the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition. A video became public after it was posted on the website “The Iowa Republican.”

This is getting some coverage:

OKLAHOMA DISTRICT BIBLE CLASS: SINNERS WILL SUFFER

[…]

The superintendent of Mustang schools, Sean McDaniel, said if the board believed the curriculum crossed a line it wouldn’t have approved the course.

“We’re not asking kids to believe the stories,” McDaniel said. “This is a purely academic endeavor. If it turns into something beyond that, either we will correct it or we will get rid of it.”

[…]

Yeah, it’s not as if school boards have ever done something that “crossed a line”.

This is a blatantly religious-goal project of the Green family.

And your Friday Evening Cult Film Music Clip…. Tonight’s offering is from “Streets of Fire”

Streets of Fire is a 1984 film directed by Walter Hill and co-written by Hill and Larry Gross. It was described in previews, trailers, and posters as “A Rock & Roll Fable”. It is an unusual mix of musical, action, drama, and comedy with elements both of retro-1950s and 1980s. The film stars Michael Paré as a soldier of fortune who returns home to rescue his ex-girlfriend (Diane Lane) who has been kidnapped by Raven (Willem Dafoe). Some of the film was shot on the backlot of Universal Studios in California on two large, elaborate sets covered in a tarp 1,240 feet long by 220 feet wide so that night scenes could be filmed during the day . It grossed 8 million on a production cost of 15 million dollarsWikipedia

It grossed 8 million on a production cost of 15 million dollars. What stands out is the Jim Steinman / Ry Cooter soundtrack. It’s the classic Steinman sound that even I can recognize, and you could just as easily insert Meatloaf or Bonnie Tyler as the singer and it would work just the same.

Enjoy.

There’s a lot of dark stuff to unpack in the “better off under slavery” thing.

Today it occurred to me that it’s not just about race as justification for slavery, but also about denying all the abuses inherent in the system.

The arbitrary physical violence?

The rapes, and the subsequent chattelage of one’s own children?

The police state invested with the ability to surveil suspected abolitionists, to confiscate and destroy all printed/written abolitionist materials, and detain any suspected sympathizer? The death penalty for abolitionists,,,and/or the collaboration of legal authorities in lynching or extralegal murders?

All of this is handwaved. It’s exaggeration, lies, propaganda.

This really isn’t so bad. The fabric is pretty stiff, and it’s tacked into a wood frame. The needle is also larger than what I normally use for cross stitch (tapestry #22 instead of #28) - that’s yarn there (hand-painted! and one ply).

It’s supposed to be a LOT easier to do while in a car. Cross stitch on linen is virtually impossible, I want something besides crochet to keep my hands occupied.

Seriously. For anyone who’s a Republican and not a complete batshit Neo-Confederate loon, all this Bundy Ranch shit should be a serious gut check. Do you really want to keep cheering for this team when they’re determined to start another Civil War and they’ll use any pretense to do it?

For fuck’s sake, the militia snipers that we saw photographed aiming at the BLM were bragging about having several federal officers in their line of sight. They’re all part of this Posse Comitatus, white supremacist bullshit and they’ve been openly supported and cheered on by the RW blogs, Fox News, several elected officials with an (R) after their name and most of the talk radio loons. What more does it take for someone to finally realize that the Republican party is completely insane?

Thanks for the link. One telling note:

Ellmers believes that Obama put the country at risk because he supposedly refuses “to recognize - and tell the American people - [that] he understands radical Islamic terrorism does exist.” She then launched an ugly and bigoted campaign ad equating all Muslims with the 9/11 terrorists, and arguing that the Islamic Community Center in Lower Manhattan is a “Victory Mosque” and a symbol of Muslim conquest:

Narrator: “After the Muslims conquered Jerusalem, and Cordoba and Constantinople, they built victory mosques. And now, they want to build a mosque near Ground Zero. Where does Bob Etheridge stand? He won’t say, won’t speak out, won’t take a stand.”

Ellmers: “The terrorists haven’t won, and we should tell them in plain English, ‘No, there will never be a mosque at Ground Zero.’”

In an interview with Anderson Cooper, she suggested that Obama’s foreign policy subtly shows support for terrorists by using foreign aid to build mosques. Cooper, however, pointed out that she was referring to a program started by President Bush that helps rebuild houses of worships including churches and temples. When he asked if the Roman Catholic Church built a “Victory Church” in Rome over a Pagan temple, she took umbrage and asked Cooper if he was “anti-religion” or “anti-Christian.” Cooper replied: “That’s like the lowest response I have ever heard from a candidate, I have got to tell you.”

Ending up on the side of raving bigots is an occupational hazard of supporting GOP elected officials and candidates these days.

SKUNK!

There’s a very entertaining chemistry blog I found recently that considers “things I won’t work on”. The main categories are things that are ridiculously explosive, things that are ridiculously toxic and things that are ridiculously malodorous.

A small writing sample:

But today’s compound makes no noise and leaves no wreckage. It merely stinks. But it does so relentlessly and unbearably. It makes innocent downwind pedestrians stagger, clutch their stomachs, and flee in terror. It reeks to a degree that makes people suspect evil supernatural forces. It is thioacetone.

Or something close to it, anyway. All we know for sure is that thioacetone doesn’t like to exist as a free compound - it’s usually tied up in a cyclic thioketal trimer, when it’s around at all. Attempts to crack this to thioacetone monomer itself have been made - ah, but that’s when people start diving out of windows and vomiting into wastebaskets, so the quality of the data starts to deteriorate. No one’s quite sure what the actual odorant is (perhaps the gem-dimercaptan?) And no one seems to have much desire to find out, either.

There are sound historical reasons for this reluctance. The canonical example (Chemische Berichte 1889, 2593) is the early work in the German city of Freiburg in 1889 (see page 4 of this textbook), which quotes the first-hand report. This reaction produced”an offensive smell which spread rapidly over a great area of the town causing fainting, vomiting and a panic evacuation.”. An 1890 report from the Whitehall Soap Works in Leeds refers to the odor as “fearful”, and if you could smell anything through the ambient conditions in a Leeds soap factory in 1890, it must have been.

Dark, I think you are a good person. And I appreciate that by you posting here, you are somewhat aware of what’s going on in the world around us and politics in general.

Which makes it that much harder to understand how you can interact with people like me (and presumably see me as human), and yet still cheer on folks who would flat out deny me the right to make my own decisions about my body. For example. Or deny some of our gay/lesbian Lizards the right to marry someone they love.

I think that’s the cognitive dissonance a lot of us find hard to understand, and your tweet (which you posted) highlighted just how much PARTY FIRST matters to you over the very real impact these people can have on some of our lives.

This next bit just need to be said:

Celebrity Quack Moms Are a Terrible Influence on Everyday Parents

On April 15, the actress Alicia Silverstone released a book called The Kind Mama: A Simple Guide to Supercharged Fertility, a Radiant Pregnancy, a Sweeter Birth, and a Healthier, More Beautiful Beginning. It’s chock-full of attachment parenting lessons and dangerous misinformation. The Daily Beast compiled some of the book’s more outrageous claims. These include the notion that postpartum depression is caused by eating processed sugars, that allowing your baby to sleep in its own crib is neglectful, that the diaper industry is “fueled by corporate-backed pseudoscience,” and most troubling, that some children are “never the same” after they get vaccines.

SNIP

But as any critical reader of celebrity coverage knows, stars are not just like us. They are better-looking and have more money, time, and support. Which is why it’s so aggravating that they are promoting attachment parenting techniques that are inaccessible to most working parents. When Silverstone tells other mothers that they are borderline monsters if they don’t let their kids sleep in a family bed, not only is she not considering the latest scientific evidence on co-sleeping, she’s also telling working parents who desperately need a good night sleep that they’re not doing right by their children.

Same goes for elimination communication, otherwise known as potty training your kid before he can even sit up on his own. Both Silverstone and Bialik push EC in their books, and because they have the money and the help to watch their kid 24/7, that method of potty training worked for them. If you try telling your local day care that your 6-month-old goes diaper-free, they will probably laugh so hard tears form in their eyes before they chuck you out the door.

Most of these things are just silly, not dangerous. But even the dangerous ones—like the anti-vaccine thing—are a product of the blithe privilege of the wealthy celebrity mom. As Lindy West puts it in Jezebel, “Spreading hysterical misinformation about vaccines (even if you’re just criticizing vax schedules and not shilling a direct vaccine-to-autism connection) might not seem like a big deal to families that can afford high-quality out-of-pocket medical care, but it is a very big, life-and-death deal to the low-income and immunocompromised.”

For me it is about following the evidence. Over time, and as GOP positions became more extreme, it became clear that the GOP really is pretty much as awful as its critics say it is —- i.e., it stands for plutocracy and runs on all kinds of BS culture war crap to distract from that. Furthermore, it is infected with racism and neo-confederacy as a result of the civil rights realignment.

So I stopped voting GOP.

Meanwhile, the Democrats are heavily compromised and are also too corporate. But the Democrats are hardly the socialist/communist boogiemen of RW propaganda. It’s just laughable.

Should these basic fact patterns change, I’ll reconsider my present habit of voting always and exclusively (D).

Pot smells about as appealing as a skunk to me. On a VERY visceral level.

My last dog got skunked, twice, before I learned not to let her out when she was positively crazy to go out. There’s definitely a difference. Pot is skunky, but mixed with a ton of evergreen pine tree. Real skunk smell, up in your face after your dog has charged back in and rolled around on your pillows, is different. It has some kind of fucked up unidentifiable animal hormone component.

re: #156 Single-handed sailor

you really have to plan on doing nothing to eat it, it can get intense.

The edibles thing in Colorado is kind of an elephant in the room. We’ve already had a couple of deaths that were (allegedly) attributed to edible cannabis intoxication. And there really is no standard when it comes to purity. The Colorado legislature is working on new laws and standards for edibles as we speak. But this is all so new that I think it’ll be years before we see any kind of standards for edibles.

The Denver Post’s all-weed website is pretty comprehensive in this matter.

When I finally IDed that that was what that absolutely noxious smell I occasionally encounter on public transit was, thanks to being able to ask the husband.

There has been money to be made by making moms feel inadequate for over a century. Before that, it was just a popular amateur sport.

Dr. Spock’s great contribution wasn’t, as many people think, “permissive parenting”, but more practical advice that kids are pretty resilient and parents shouldn’t worry about every little thing. And that’s a good thing.

Pot and pot smoke also have differences. Dirty old bong water, burnt resin and mold all contribute to what a lot of never-users identify as “pot smell.” Also people who light up in public aren’t always the most diligent types when it comes to person hygiene. Fresh weed is different, not vastly different, but different. THC mixed properly in a lipid / fat like butter shouldn’t really be detectable in most recipes.

Going down a dark country road I noticed that there was something ‘shambling’ along the road, and too my horror I realized that it was a SKUNK. I swerved to miss it, and THUNK!

Atari Dig

Crews begin digging at the old Alamogordo, N.M., landfill on Friday April 25, 2014, to search for copies of the Atari game “E.T. The Extraterrestrial” purportedly buried there in the 1980s. The game is considered among gamers to be one of the worst ever and is believed to have contributed to the demise of Atari.

Hidden for three decades in a landfill deep in the New Mexico desert lie thousands of Atari cartridges from what is widely believed to be worst video game ever made — or so the urban legend goes.

“Bottom line, this is just trash. But there is a legend in it, we want to unlock that legend, that mystery,” a spokeswoman for the public relations firm working on behalf of Xbox Entertainment Studios, one of the companies developing the film. The documentary is expected to be released later this year on Microsoft’s Xbox game consoles.

Cherrie Pie

It’s good stuff, tried it a couple of times. A near 50-50 hybrid of sativa and indica, so you get some of the best of both worlds. Not too powerful, but definitely gets the job done. Lots of those little brown filaments are usually a good sign.

If you’ve got some, enjoy! Try vaping instead of smoking, easier on the lungs.

The GOP will accept any votes in its favor, even from minorities etc., but will make no effort at all to deal with its massive bigotry problem.

So I suppose it’s technically true that there are no “Whites only” signs at the door, but that really doesn’t count for very much these days.

Yes. The GOP wants minority votes, and it also wants the votes of white bigots. You’d think there’s a trivially-easy moral decision here, but to today’s GOP, this is a very complex and sophisticated tradeoff.

And “complex and sophisticated” is what we’ll see in the upcoming elections: the GOP will market their party very differently in some areas (e.g. New Hampshire) than others (e.g. the Deep South). We’re talking Big Data here: lots of internal variables about racial attitudes to keep track of, from one jurisdiction to the next.

Here, here! I must assume that smoking anything is bad for you. The lungs are not digestive organs. Most of us get way too much air pollution anyway. It’s hard to think of a worse thing than smoking for your health, unless you stand in front of a speeding train.

I assume that eating it is much, much healthier. This is an easy assumption to make, but it would be nice to have some hard data. Of course, we don’t have much if any of that, because the DEA (or Congress? or the Obama Administration?) continues to classify pot as “Schedule 1”, which is considered so dangerous that it’s illegal to even do medical research on it.

Apparently this is an official DEA site, and I was amazed to see ketamine and anabolic steroids in Schedule III. Not that I know anything about those drugs, or most of what’s listed on the Schedules. But the Schedules don’t seem to make any sense. It may be better to do away with them completely.

“So that’s what’s wafting around outside. I suspect a possum curled up and died under my deck in the back yard yesterday, in a place where I can’t get to it.”

Judging by the possum that was in my parents’ house last week, they smell really bad when they’re alive, too.

It was hiding under a recliner. I found it by following the stink to its most intense location.

You know, some of us got to skip that decade and were quite fine with that.

And some of us were kids at the tail end of that decade. I look back at some of my childhood photos and laugh. Not only was I saddled with a terrible pageboy haircut (which soon became a Dorothy Hamill haircut when I got older), but some of my clothes was horrific.

I was tail end of the 80s, so there’s plenty of photos of me at 4 with sweatpants under a skirt and the bowl cut because I used to eat my hair and I had Popples sheets and striped Lands End shirts with matching shorts.

Fortunately NONE of those photos have been scanned. Hah.

Until the government removes marijuana from its Schedule I, medical research on the drug remains illegal, so unfortunately anyone can say just about anything about the effect of marijuana on health, however hostile or insulting.

Considering the number of Americans who actually use marijuana, an evolving body of medical research would be extremely beneficial.

For now, I can safely say that I’d rather eat an Alice B. Toklas brownie than play 10 minutes of college football.

Amazing. They should give out a Nobel Prize for oblivious tardfuckery, to truly acknowledge the priceless contribution these rich old white clowns are making to our society.

— “It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?” (3:30)

— “You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that … and not to bring them to my games.” (5:15)

— “I’m just saying, in your lousy f******* Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people.” (7:45)

— “…Don’t put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don’t bring him to my games.”

Fucker is lucky enough to own a basketball team and he’s bitching about his inappropriately young half-black trophy girlfriend bringing Magic Johnson to his games because he’s black.

Doesn’t care if she sleeps with black guys, because let’s be honest, the odds of him satisfying her in that department are dubious at best, but being seen or photographed walking with black people is a bridge too far.

Dear Friends, I regret to inform you that my beloved son, father, grandfather, passed away at 10:40 am on Friday, only hours after he was removed from life support. Organ failure quickly followed hypoxia from the cardiac arrest he suffered on Sunday morning, and he never regained consciousness.

We are devastated even though it was expected, and are scrambling to find a way to bury him (he did not want cremation even though he also didn’t want to be kept alive on a “machine”) because he had no insurance and few resources. We are trying to find some local funding for a burial as well as trying to pool resources for a burial plot, both expensive, and had almost come to a consensus of cremation as a last resort (which we could afford), but his son wants to continue looking for a way to bury him, since it was my son’s wish.

My son was a kind and generous person, to a fault, and sometimes to his own detriment, but he loved people and he was loved in return. We will miss him so much, but he lived his life as he wanted and I expect that is what we all think we do, in the end, for better or worse. Unfortunately, he didn’t care about having a lot of money for himself and was impractical in that respect, but we will find a way to honor his last wish, although it might not be possible in the end.

We have also heard from relatives we haven’t seen in many years (through a FB posting on my granddaughter’s page) and I’m still sorting that out. Worst of all, when I called his father in WA state to inform him of his hospitalization, his father wasn’t even interested. Not surprising, since he showed no interest in him during his entire life—a total failure of character on his father’s part, for which his son forgave him, but which I never have because it did affect my son tremendously. All in all, this is a sad, but busy, as well as confusing and frustrating, time for us.

Nevertheless, I wanted to get this to message to you and to thank you for all your kind thoughts in our time of grief.

I gathered that Beck’s lack of support was because he owns land that other people’s cattle graze on; those fees are personal to him.

And as has been pointed out frequently, Beck is looking at a massive defamation suit that could cost him and his company millions of dollars (and should).

Nothing reins in Teh Crazy like a looming legal judgment that could reduce your net worth by a hefty percentage.

Of course, that begs the question - was Beck just acting crazy then, or is he acting sane now?

VOCABULARY WORD (PHRASE) OF THE DAY:

Today’s 50-Cent Phrase: “Cognitive Estrangement”

By immersing yourself in a story, whether written or visual, you get to know the world the writer has created. When things in that fictional world differ from your understanding of how the real world works, you begin to ask questions. And you want answers. You look for an explanation of why these things are the way they are.

Literature scholars have a fancy name for this: cognitive estrangement. (Write that down; you can use it to impress your friends at parties.) Cognitive estrangement puts the reader in a world different than their own such that the reader is provoked to think about those differences and question them from a unique perspective. Cognitive estrangement is essentially literature’s solution to “can’t see the forest for the trees.” By stepping outside a situation (seeing it from another’s perspective), we detach ourselves from it and can better see it for what it is.

re: #284 Justanotherhuman

I’m sorry to hear that, and I will keep your son in my prayers.

Hey Dark…I see you posted about some the Stanley Playoff game between Chicago and St. Louie. The playoffs have been great…well except for Montreal winning in 4.

So, how about those Columbus Blue Jackets, eh? People probably thought the Pittsburgh Penguins would roll over them with ease. I’m proud of the guys and their never-give-up attitudes. They tied the game Wednesday night with less than half a minute to go by putting one between and through Crosby and Letang who were trying to cover for Fluery who was playing the puck behind the net before it got knocked out to Dubinsky for the tying goal.

Nationwide arena was 100+ decibel loud and proud all night even with the team down 3-0 five minutes in.

Series tied 2-2 with both teams winning one at home and away. All games have been 4-3, two overtimes…and the team that has had the 3-1 lead has lost in each game. You can’t write that script.

Hockey has officially come of age in Columbus. And, we are a hockey town. Look out Detroit and Pittsburgh…no easy games anymore, the rivalry is on!!!

Videos of the tying goal and winning goal. Listen to that Columbus crowd.

Republican Governors Declare War on Civilized Society

In a way, although it is perverse in a so-called civilized society some Americans think this country is, it makes sense that Georgia, part of the third world former Confederacy, passed a law allowing frightened residents to carry loaded firearms in any public area; guns are likely at the forefront of their minds. The region already leads the nation in poverty, crumbling infrastructure, low-wage jobs, child poverty, lack of healthcare, poor educational outcomes, and a people mired in religious extremism, so the vision of residents carrying loaded firearms meets the standard of uncivilized nations like Somalia and Yemen. America is continuing to devolve from a once-civilized society into a barbaric gun-toting nation and while many Americans pale at the prospect of loaded guns in schools, bars, courthouses, malls, airports, and churches, an element of the population derives pleasure at the prospect of armed men roaming the public square because they saw images of Somalia and begged the NRA and Republicans to create America in Somalia’s image.

Sometimes I wonder if fear of such a thing is what brings it to pass.

There is a part of me that wonders if the “better under slavery” language might also be a way of softening up people for a return to legal chattel slavery, you know where your food and shelter were provided for you if you worked for someone for life with no chance of ever leaving? No more living paycheck to paycheck, right?

Lotsa these people think that the Federal Government had no business ending slavery in the USA, period. They believe that negroes are culturally and intellectually inferior and deserve to be kept in bondage “for their own good”, and naturally for the benefit of their white overlords.

No account needed, just an email address (and a bank account, of course, so the recipient can “download” funds).

OR Indentured Servitude.

Imagine a legal indenture system in place where working for someone for a couple of years with clearly defined rules and protections ended with crippling student loan debts being paid in full. I’m not so sure that people would be against it. It’s scary, but true.

Hell, I’m surprised corporations don’t do this already. Pay someone a living wage so they can feed, clothe and shelter themselves, then at the end, pay their loans off. It would be cheaper for the companies involved, since they’d be guaranteed employee loyalty for that amount of time.

Article shedding light on the rip off to taxpayers with our laughably low grazing fees.

Federal Grazing Program in Bundy Dispute Rips-Off Taxpayers, Wild Horses

Across the west, the BLM and U.S. Forest Service manage 13.3 million AUMs (Animal Unit Months) on 250 million acres of public land. One month of grazing one cow/calf combination or five sheep (the definition of an AUM) costs $1.35—a fee that’s substantially below the present-day cost of $16-$20 per month to graze livestock on private land (BLM evidence of this disparity is noted here.) The direct loss to taxpayers, according to Wild Earth Guardians’ interpretation of GAO data, is huge: at least $123 million a year. Indirect but related costs push the total to as much as $1 billion, all to produce less than 3% of the nation’s beef supply.

Amazing. They should give out a Nobel Prize for oblivious tardfuckery, to truly acknowledge the priceless contribution these rich old white clowns are making to our society.

Isn’t Magic Johnson the most popular basketball player anywhere ever? (I know for sure he’s the most popular basketball player in Los Angeles.) The Clippers just lost a bunch of high-price season-ticket customers, a bunch of merchandise sales, they lost whatever free agents they were hoping to sign next year, next time they need a coach their options will be limited…

There’s an awful lot of bullshit in that article.

If there is an invasive species, here, it’s cattle and sheep. Wild horses, as early fossils show, originated here—and they’re a lot better suited to restoring the landscape than the cowboys and federal grazing program that’s looking to get rid of them—with the help of unwitting but fleeced taxpayers.

Pretending horses will help the ecosystem is the same harebrained logic the cattle runners use.

There are too many animals grazing on public lands. Raise the fees for cattle and sheep, and continue to remove horses and protect water sources. Let the native species recover, including wolves.

Maddow had the district’s congressman on her show. He’s the first black congressman from Nevada. He said the people who live in the area are not happy, especially about all the gun-totin’ going on. He was speaking about people who live in Bunkerville, I believe, and not necessarily fellow ranchers. Somebody interviewed a pissed off Nevada rancher, but I don’t remember where I saw that.

Your Tax Dollars?

World Vision
US may describe itself as a secular/plural/multicultural nation but almost 20% of Government funding to faith-based organizations have gone to international NGOs which are all Christian. World Vision alone has an annual budget of $1.7 billion (International Religious NGOs at The United Nations: A Study of a Group of Religious Organizations).
The final object of two Abrahamic religions i.e. Christianity and Islam, is world conquest through religion. Thus they aim to spread their religion worldwide and to convert masses to their beliefs and aligning with development when the populations of the Third World are in need of money and other essentials. It provides the perfect alibi especially when Third World Governments are unable to cater to the needs of all the populace and are also silenced into non-action when these organizations construct or expand their religious facilities (legal and illegal).
7 out of top 10 contributing nations to NGOs are predominantly Roman Catholic. Austria, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands are the top donors.

The UK’s Muslim outreach to keep jihadists from travelling to Syria is going as expected
Muslim parents fear British police anti-terror plan

The latest reported death of a Briton from Syria is 18-year old Abdullah Deghayes, who died earlier this month.

His father, Abu Bakr, knew of his death through Facebook. Two of his other sons - Amer, 20, and Jaafar, 16, who is thought to be the youngest British rebel - are still in Syria. Their parents did not give them consent to go to Syria and were unable to convince them to come back.

However, this new police strategy is seen by Abu Bakr and some other Muslims as a way of spying on their children.

The prolonged Syria conflict has increasingly worried security chiefs who think hundreds of people have gone from UK to fight in Syria. Police have previously warned that anyone travelling to Syria should expect to be scrutinised while the UK government has condemned the Assad regime, which is accused of atrocities.

“It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people,” he is heard saying. “Do you have to?”

Check with the county where he was residing; it appears that NC did have support for indigent burial as recently as 2009, but of course that’s questionable under the current budgetary climates. Still, it doesn’t hurt to look and ask.
