Okay, there were those banzai charges in the Pacific but GIs had grenades, machine guns and flamethrowers to help with those, something the evil liberals deny this defenseless mom and her precious children.

They also had twenty round stick mags and fifty round drum mags for the Thompson, twenty round mags for the BAR, belt fed .30 & .50 cal heavy machine guns, flame throwers, bazookas, hand grenades, artillery support, naval bombardment, tanks and air cover, among other things.

The point is most GIs weren’t carrying bullet hoses. They were carrying 8-round clips. And they were fighting a WAR against a lot of really well armed, trained folks. So, what is she defending AGAINST that she needs more bullets before reloading than our fathers and grandfathers needed to win WWII?

Why do people focus on mag capacity when statistics show handguns are used in 85% or more of every category of gun crime? I care a lot less about what she thinks she’s defending against than the ability to easily sneak a weapon into crowded areas.
And the fact is that without the suppressing fire afforded by larger capacity support weapons, WWII would have been much more difficult to win. The low capacity weapons were mostly designed for long range engagements or as secondary side arms.

You appear to be wandering off into the weeds, there, Frank. The capacity issue has to do with frightening people into thinking they NEED a high-capacity magazine in order to just survive.

re: #114 GeneJockey
You appear to be wandering off into the weeds, there, Frank. The capacity issue has to do with frightening people into thinking they NEED a high-capacity magazine in order to just survive.
So, again, what is she defending against? How many holes does she need to blow in intruders and her own walls to be safe?
Criminal statistics isn’t “the woods.” It’s reality. It’s responsible for at least 85/100 gun deaths in this country. Your entire premise is designed to put the burden of proof on the people wanting capacity, and to do that you’re saying things about WWII that are patently untrue. I don’t really care what she thinks she’s defending against, even if her fears are unreasonable capacity isn’t really the problem so I’m not sure why putting the burden of proof on others is appropriate. It’s when people are able to conceal their guns and easily take them undetected into the public domain that most problems arise.
Concealability, by a huge majority is the problem. Handguns make up the top nine out ten of the most common firearm models recovered from crime scenes, the tenth being cheap Mossberg low capacity pump action pistol grip shotguns.
People are advocating capacity limits because they know handguns are a harder fight. But the fight for capacity limits only makes the handgun fight that much more difficult, because the legislation by definition can at best only nip away at the margins of the problem. The ensuing lack of effectiveness will only add more fuel to the gun lobby.

“Benghazi” has become a by-word for the Tea Bagger belief that they were robbed of the election by the crafty and cunning Kenyan Usurper. In their minds, Benghazi was their Iran Hostage Crisis, their chance to turn what foreign policy incident into a major argument against the Democrat in the White House.
We heard it time and again, the comparisons of Obama to Carter. They hoped deeply that Romney would have his Reagan moment during the debates, where he turned the whole thing against the President and successfully argued that he couldn’t keep America safe. But he failed to do that, the President instead turned it on him and made him look like a fool. And because of that, they now want to “set the record straight.”

Reagan cultists believe the Iranians released the hostages a few minutes after St. Ron was sworn in because they were afraid of what he might do. In fact, the process had been going on for some time, with Algeria bribed to serve as an intermediary, and the release was timed as it was in an effort to humiliate Carter.

Males relentlessly bound from partner to partner, as massive hormone releases in their bodies cause their immune systems to crash and their fur to fall out. They bleed internally. Some males even go blind, yet still stumble around the leaf litter hoping for one last tryst. In a few short weeks, every single male lies dead, leaving the females to raise their offspring. And so it seems that in perpetually dangerous Australia, even the sex can kill you. […]

Greenwald held his own on some points, but got demolished during rebuttals and final statements by Hayden.

It’s not like you actually want to level up in FF8, since the monsters level up as you do (and get much more power by doing so than your party).
So the game would (paradoxically) be easier if high levels were harder to attain.

Bundy sons in Nevada accuse feds of assault in police complaint
Sons and sisters of Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher who has been resisting efforts by federal agents to seize his cattle grazing without permits on public land, filed police complaints with the local sheriff’s office on Friday accusing the agents of assault.
[…]
Bundy and his supporters do not recognize federal authority over the land, which has been cleared of other ranchers’ livestock to protect the habitat of the desert tortoise.
In the police complaint on Friday, two younger sisters of Bundy and three of his sons accuse the federal agents of using a stun gun and of throwing one of the sisters to the ground.
They also say that Clark County Sheriff Douglas Gillespie should have intervened.
[…]
The BLM has said it was authorized by federal court orders to seize the cattle and that it took necessary steps to protect the safety of its officers and the public.
“We welcome Mr. Bundy’s new interest in the American legal system,” it said in a statement said after Friday’s filings.

GGT knows because she and I had a discussion about this on twitter, but my grandmother made her first quilt to give me for my wedding. My grandfather passed away 4 months before we got married (I received the wedding invitations they day we left for the funeral, so he got buried with one) and he knew and had seen it in progress. Grandma passed away 9 months later.

The effect seems to have lasted. Remember when then-73 year old Buzz punched out that much younger and much larger conspira-liar?
One of the greatest punches of all time!

The online voting indicates that the online audience was overwhelmingly dudebro.

He’s a very nice man, in person.
Unless, of course, you’re f***ing retarded.

Have I mentioned lately that we are a very aggressive and territorial species?

As an aside all the MunkDebates post-show Google hangout guests are uber-pro Snowden, save one who is just mostly pro-Snowden.

I stitch a lot to documentaries. Mostly science and/or disaster related.
One of the better documentaries out there on the tsunami in Japan in 2011, featuring interviews with people who took several of the better videos you can find of the disaster.

It’s so faddish. This is “fashion” when it comes to politics.
You might as well expect these people to think that The Tomorrow People really are the tomorrow people.

Yeah, Charles, I’d love to sign on but, um, I’m feeling an overwhelming urge to poke hot needles in my eyeballs. Much more soothing than Snowwald.

Expect him to omit that first part when he crows about his legendary victory.

The 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 is just five years away. Too bad Neil Armstrong can’t be there, but there is a good chance Buzz and Mike Collins will make it.
I wish there could be a new Moon landing before then, but the chances aren’t so good. Still it is not impossible that SpaceX or the Chinese could pull it off. SpaceX’s new Falcon Heavy has the lift for a Moon shot. It would require considerably lighter command and landing vehicles but that should be feasible.

The Snowden commercial made it clear that this Munk “debate” was but a rigged show for Snowden/Greenwald.

Look’s like the hangout host’s math was slightly off. Change was actually +9 / +12, so the “most famous journalist of his generation” can claim a staggering 3% victory ///.
Munk Debate Results: 41% agree, 59% disagree (32 agree, 47 disagree pre-debate). Narrow win for @ggreenwald and @alexisohanian.— The Munk Debates (@munkdebate) May 3, 2014

Oregon is outraged after comedian makes parody of our failed healthcare effort
‘We Are Stupid F*cking Idiots’: Oregon Ad Agency Responds to John Oliver
Given the world today, you have to be a stupid fucking idiot to want to help activate a legislation so controversial.
You have to be a stupid fucking idiot to suggest a strategy that unites people around a common good before selling them on something as complicated as health insurance.
You have to be a stupid fucking idiot to think advertising can actually help improve the quality of people’s lives.
But at North, we welcome stupid fucking idiots. And I’d do it all again just the same, proudly.
