Bundy Ranch Terrorists Issue Bomb Threats, Intimidate City Council Meeting, Attempt to Set Fire to Cars

When will the government act?
Wingnuts • Views: 32,772

The lack of a response is emboldening the terrorists.

Within the past few days, local 8 News NOW received Police Reports and other information that show Bundy’s Anti-American, Anti-Government thugs:

- “poured lighter fluid around” news trucks,
- Issued “bomb threats” against Hotels where Federal employees were lodging,
- told hotel staff they would be “dragged out in the parking lot and shot”
- Bundy thugs asked Metro Police Sgt Jenkins if “he was ready to die”

They’re also showing up to intimidate the local city council:

Fox News 5 is reporting that Bundy’s armed thugs surrounded the City Council room and stood watch over a “standing-room only City council meeting” yesterday. Why did Bundy’s thugs attend the City Council meeting? Were they there to intimidate?

So yeah. It’s not a matter of if this powder keg goes off, it’s WHEN. The Federal Government needs to step in, immediately, and put down this modern Whiskey Rebellion.

KiTA,

The government better act soon before these terrorists “freedom fighters” start murdering innocent people because they’re not getting what they want.

I really do think there’s going to be some form of collapse, soon. Either they’re going to turn on each other, or they’re going to find some minority or news reporter or federal agent all by themselves and attack them, or the terrorists are going to try to push the “Sovereign nation” bullshit and declare themselves independent warlords of the local towns.

They’ve already been allowed too much leeway, it’s time to slap them down and remind them that crossing fingers and wishing real hard does not make them suddenly immune to law.

That won’t happen, is my bet. The Obama administration is going to refrain from moving proactively on this matter, preferring to react if the militia types actually brutalize and/or kill someone. This is both in hopes the area will cool down on its own and also in order to present any eventual crackdown in the best possible light to those willing to listen to the administration.

I’m sort of cautious about DKos entries, and since I never really visit the site (except when fed there by links) I’m not sure of the poster.

Anyway, yes, it is clear that the Bundy Bunch thugs are way out of line, are really being a gang, and that others in the area will pay for the Bundy idiocy.

Cliven Bundy doesn’t want to live in the 21st century. From his statements it sounds like he wasn’t so hot on the 20th century either. He’d probably do well in the 18th.

The problem with this whole “arrest the bastards already” philosophy is that it ignores the fact that it will be a royal bloodbath - probably on both sides, despite the fact that the police now know more or less what they’re getting into. It would be a PR disaster on the order of Waco or Ruby Ridge even though there’s no doubt in my mind that these idiots will be shooting back and probably cause some police casualties. And even if, by some chance, this is not the most likely outcome, it’s likely enough to give even the stoutest sheriff pause.

7 Shiplord Kirel  May 2, 2014 6:43:41pm

This is the right’s Fort Sumter, except that the Bundy Bund has even less legal standing than the secessionists did. If blood is spilled, send the Army to crush this insurrection.

It would be an important object lesson for RW media and conspiracy dupes in what the Constitution and the law REALLY say, as well as the ineffectuality of AR-15s against tanks and gunships.

I’m not sure the comparison to Ruby Ridge and Waco will hold up in the aftermath. People can clearly see that these thugs are going onto public property to intimidate and terrorize. Neither Randy Weaver nor the Branch Davidians did that.

I would be pleasantly surprised if people did recognize this. I have little faith in the general public, sad to say. Many Americans already tend to be suspicious of the police - not completely unfounded, I might add.

Even worse with some of these rural sheriff’s departments is the chance that some of the deputies might decide they agree with Bundy and turn on the government.

There is no rural sheriff’s department there, so no worries about that. It’s why Bundy’s supporters came to Las Vegas to file their complaints.

Thing is, the longer this drags on without response, the more emboldened they become. The law’s being at the very least bent, if not outright broken, and the local officials seem to be either cowed by the open displays and threats or are in fact supportive of these loons.

I’d sooner say they are afraid of the public backlash that might - and I emphasize the “might” - follow from attempting action on these yokels. They know it’s going to be bad; people are going to get shot, some of them will probably die. 8 News NOW obtained a police report which also shows the hotel received at least nine threatening phone calls in April, after they allowed BLM rangers to stay in the hotel.

Workers were told to kick out the BLM or they “would not be standing in the morning.”

Nevada authorities better be looking hard at the local law enforcement and whether they’re turning a blind eye to what’s going on in reckless disregard for public safety. These militia thugs are itching for a fight, and while the feds are right to try and defuse the situation, but letting them stick around and begin harassing locals and setting up roadblocks on state and local public roads is illegal and must be addressed quickly.

There’s not going to be an easy answer for the situation, but if the militias go ahead and cause harm or injury to someone, the state and feds will have to deal decisively with them (and with the predictable right wing outrageous outrage).

True. But I’d think due to Las Vegas and the overall amount of population that the Clark County sheriff’s office is not that small as compared to what a county with a relatively low population would have.

63 Dark_Falcon  May 2, 2014 7:27:33pm

And in another case that made national headlines, sanity has prevailed in Minnesota:

Minnesota homeowner who fatally shot teen intruders found guilty of murder (VIDEO)

Byron Smith, the man who fatally shot two teen intruders in the basement of his Little Falls, Minnesota, home on Thanksgiving Day in 2012, has been convicted of premeditated murder.

Smith was found guilty on four counts total - two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder for the shooting deaths of 18-year-old Haile Kifer and 17-year-old Nick Brady. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Multiple sources reported that it took the jury only about three hours of deliberation before delivering the verdict Tuesday. Apparently a key factor in the jury’s decision being the disturbing and detailed audio and visual recordings of the break-in and fatal shootings as they occurred.

Smith, who was a retired security engineer for the State Department responsible for establishing security at embassies and consulates around the world, had set up a security system within his home, which had been burglarized several times in the past.

Smith was determined to catch those responsible for the prior break-ins, but many - including the jury - determined that he crossed the line from self-defense to premeditated murder.

That makes it a federal, even a military, responsibility under the exclusion from the Posse Comitatus Act of actions taken under the Insurrection Act of 1807. Btw, wingnuts love to cite the Posse Comitatus Act but few if any of them seem to know what it actually says.

Yes, the labor force participation rate declined this month, offsetting some of the gains from the addition of 288,000 jobs. Viewed out of context, that sounds bad.

But here’s the context: the participation rate has been dropping steadily since 1999, when it peaked.

Not surprisingly, the biggest drop was 2007-2008 during the Great Recession.

Correct. Lots of squares and rectangles out there, following lines of latitude and longitude, even down to individual farms.

Right makes sense. What’s also interesting in geography are place names. Lots of English sounding names in New England and Scandinavian/German ones in the Midwest for obvious reasons.

True. But I’d think due to Las Vegas and the overall amount of population that the Clark County sheriff’s office is not that small as compared to what a county with a relatively low population would have.

I guess what I was trying to say that was the population is not spread out. Clark County is pretty big, but the population is pretty much clustered in the Las Vegas Valley. There are some very large counties in Nevada, though, that only have a couple of thousand people in them. I love that!

Gaston Glock buys wife $15 million horse

Austrian gun designer Gaston Glock recently forked out $15 million on a new horse for his wife, Kathrin.

Glock, 84, bought London, the 12-year-old Olympic silver-medal winning show jumping horse at an auction. Kathrin, 31, plans to use London in the Glock Horse Performance Center, which was built near their house in Carinthia, Austrian Times reports.

The Glocks also hope to use London to take home a medal in the 2016 Olympic Games.

Ann Romney is probably berating Mitt over this story as we speak, since the horse he bought her didn’t win a medal, and she didn’t get to pick out the White House china like he promised her, either.

Koch brothers decline invitation to debate climate change

A group supporting the political views of retired billionaire investor Tom Steyer bought a full-page color advertisement Friday in The Wichita Eagle — the Koch brothers’ hometown newspaper — inviting the brothers to a public debate on climate change.

The brothers, Charles and David, don’t plan to take him up on it.

“We are not experts on climate change,” wrote Koch spokeswoman Melissa Cohlmia in an e-mail Friday afternoon. “We do believe there should be free and open debate on the climate issue and it should be based on sound science and intellectual honesty.

“The debate should take place among the scientific community, examining all points of view and void of politics, personal attacks and partisan agendas.”

From the Insurrection Act of 1807:

§ 331. Federal aid for State governments

Whenever there is an insurrections in any State against its government, the President may, upon the request of its legislature or of its governor if the legislature cannot be convened, call into Federal service such of the militia of the other States, in the number requested by that State, and use such of the armed forces, as he considers necessary to suppress the insurrection.

§ 332. Use of militia and armed forces to enforce Federal authority

Whenever the President considers that unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion against the authority of the United States, make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States in any State or Territory by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings, he may call into Federal service such of the militia of any State, and use such of the armed forces, as he considers necessary to enforce those laws or to suppress the rebellion.

§ 333. Interference with State and Federal law

The President, by using the militia or the armed forces, or both, or by any other means, shall take such measures as he considers necessary to suppress, in a State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy, if it—

(1) so hinders the execution of the laws of that State, and of the United States within the State, that any part or class of its people is deprived of a right, privilege, immunity, or protection named in the Constitution and secured by law, and the constituted authorities of that State are unable, fail, or refuse to protect that right, privilege, or immunity, or to give that protection; or

(2) opposes or obstructs the execution of the laws of the United States or impedes the course of justice under those laws.

In any situation covered by clause (1), the State shall be considered to have denied the equal protection of the laws secured by the Constitution.(emphasis added)

For the culinary-inclined lizards, dinner tonight starts with this recipe for Maple-Mustard Glazed Chicken and makes the following changes:

Subbing in boneless center thin cut pork loin for the chicken (and cutting the oven time down to 7 minutes).

Switching to 1/8 - 1/4 cup chicken broth, 1 tbsp syrup, 2 tbsp cider vinegar, and 2 tbsp mustard.

You get just a hint of the sweetness, the mustard goes really well with the pork, and it’s really well cooked. I serve with roasted potatoes and veggies.

The husband says it’s one of his favorite ways of having pork and he’s from NC. (And he is actually honest with me about my cooking, because he has to eat it on a regular basis.)

Though not well known, Helen Gandy was one of the major figures of the Hoover era at the FBI. She was J. Edgar’s personal secretary for an amazing 54 years, from 1918 until Hoover’s death in 1972. True enough, though all thing considered Gorby managed to do a better job than he might have despite the GOP. I mean, seriously, if you think how it went down was bad, at least Bush Sr was mentally competent. Had it happened a couple of years sooner, it could have been far worse.

Meh, the rounds for the GAU-8 cost too much to waste on them. Put up a blockade around the place, don’t allow anyone or anything in. Jam their TV & radio. When they come out arrest them. If they claim to be sovereign citizens turn them over to INS for deportation. Otherwise prosecute for all outstanding felonies and make sure NICS knows they’re prohibited persons.

The latest skirmish over the nation’s first smart gun, marked this week by death threats against a Maryland gun dealer who wanted to sell the weapon, has raised doubts about its future and prompted some gun-control advocates to back away from legislative efforts to mandate the technology.

Engage Armament, a Rockville gun shop, endured an outpouring of vitriol from gun rights activists who fear the technology will be used to curtail their Second Amendment rights by limiting the kinds of guns they can buy in the future.

GOP lawmaker: Gay sex is ‘one-way alley for the garbage truck’

A Republican state lawmaker and Christian leader from South Dakota has written a letter warning of what he calls the dangers of gay sex, titled “A One-Way Alley for the Garbage Truck.”

Rep. Steve Hickey, a Republican representing Sioux Falls, wrote to the Sioux Falls Argus Leader because he is upset that South Dakota’s same-sex marriage ban is being challenged in federal court.

Hickey writes that his anti-gay missive is “an open letter to the medical and psychological communities” seeking affirmation of his view that “gay sex is not good for the body or mind.”

“Pardon a crude comparison, but regarding men with men, we are talking about a one-way alley meant only for the garbage truck to go down,” he writes, calling on the state’s doctors to “come out of the closet” and not “feel silenced and intimidated.”

They aren’t in jail because trying to arrest scores of armed men in one place at one time tends to end in a bloody fashion unless you bring in overwhelming force. Just because we don’t necessarily hear about every single instance of terrorism that was stopped in the planning stages doesn’t mean it didn’t exist.

True. Alan Dershowitz tends to make arguments and proposals that do not carry things to their (illogical) extremes. This requires him to explain things in detail and occasionally use nuance, and that leaves him disliked by those whose shouted slogan is “Purity Now!”. Ukraine’s SBU security service says illegal military groups from Moldova’s breakaway Transdniestria region worked with Russian groups to stir up unrest in the Ukrainian Black Sea city of Odessa, where dozens died in clashes on Friday.

It was not the first time largely Russian-speaking Transdniestria, a strip of Moldova bordering Ukraine and less than 100 km (62 miles) from Odessa, has been drawn into the crisis.

NATO’s top military commander said in late March that the separatist region, which declared its independence in 1990, could be next in Russia’s sights after its annexation of Crimea earlier in the month.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said last month the people of Transdniestria, who have voted in a referendum in favour of joining Russia one day, should have the right to decide their own fate, though he stressed the need for negotiation.

I’m starting to get nervous about how ambitious Putin is going to get. I have been thinking he’s rational and knows how far to push without serious reprisals from the West. But he has a lot of territory he wants, I don’t know how far he’s going to go.

244 Killgore Trout  May 3, 2014 7:36:58am

Putin the Predictable

The danger today is that Putin’s fake separatist movement could take on a life of its own. The alarming footage on Russian TV of “Kiev’s punitive action against its own people” may force people in eastern Ukraine, who never even considered secession, to take sides. The Kremlin’s main goal is to rush through a referendum on independence on May 11 and undermine Ukrainian presidential elections scheduled two weeks later.

If there’s bloodshed among the separatists before the referendum, Putin has reserved his “right” to intervene militarily in Ukraine. And if some kind of vote does take place, the Kremlin will be able to use it as the legal basis to send in “peacekeepers.” In a matter of days, it may not even matter if the separatists were real or not.

Follow the money!

he doesn’t want the EU to cut him off totally wrt buying gas, but he will use what they (and the Ukraine) owe Gazprom as a HUGE bargaining chip to slice off a piece of the Ukraine in the name of protecting the large Russian presence there

my guess

Putin will try to negotiate an area of the Ukraine that while not totally “separate”, will have Russian “security” forces there “protecting” them

If you look at a map, my guess is that area would be rather large. Make a straight line from the furthest southeast corner of the Belarus/ Ukraine border straight down to Odessa

I’m glad that the local and Federal government is taking it’s time. These guys aren’t going anywhere. What’s the rush? They are not very bright, however, and they may eventually hurt someone. I would hate to see that happen and it would put an end to this pseudo-cowboy tantrum. But it’s more likely that they will hurt each other as their paranoia starts to mount.

A worthwhile read….
Brian Bonner: The Kremlin revs up its PR war machine

After the deaths of 46 people in Odessa on May 2, the Kremlin keeps beating the war drums.

Moscow’s propaganda machine remains in full tilt, suggesting that a Russian military invasion is more likely than any de-escalation of the current conflict instigated by Russian President Vladimir Putin. If that is the case, America and Europe had better be prepared to impose tougher sanctions than the mild ones enacted thus far.

Of course, Moscow sees itself as a bunch of innocents.

Let’s break down the lies in a single statement by Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov:

Russian press: Shots Heard near Ukraine’s Slaviansk, Residents Prepare for Storming

The relative calm in the eastern Ukrainian city of Slaviansk has been broken by shots on the outskirts of the city, and residents are preparing for the storming by the Ukrainian army, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported on Saturday.

Federalization supporters, who are on duty on the roadblocks around Slaviansk, say they are waiting for the storming in the coming hours. The attack is widely expected following the departure of the OSCE inspectors, who were freed by federalists earlier in the day.
