Boehner’s Pick to Head Benghazi Boogaloo Committee Sponsored Bill to Sue Obama

The latest Republican charade
Politics • Views: 22,685

As the ridiculous Republican obsession with exploiting the Benghazi attack to harm the Obama administration (and more to the point, to damage Hillary Clinton) ramps up again, House Speaker John Boehner announced today that South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy will lead the latest fake investigation.

You may remember Congressman Gowdy as the loon who tried to pass a bill that would allow Republicans to sue President Obama.

So I’m sure this “investigation” will be completely non-partisan and fair.

Yes, that would be sarcasm.

Yet another socon prosecutor.

An ardent social conservative, Gowdy considers himself “pro-life plus.” He not only believes “in the sanctity of life,” but argues that “the strategy should be broader than waiting for the Supreme Court to revisit Roe v. Wade.”

I will give the guy credit for this:

When the state faced a budget crunch that forced many employees to go on unpaid furloughs, Gowdy funneled part of his campaign account into the solicitor’s budget so his staff could keep working.[5]

If Boehner were attempting to placate the real fringe nutbaggers with their kangaroo court while simultaneously stacking the deck so as to discredit them, how would his actions look any different from what we’re seeing right now?

23 lawhawk  May 5, 2014 12:28:12pm

So, they went with the SC Rep to manage this “investigation”? How much of that is due to Lindsay Graham’s Benghazi-itis in the Senate and how much is due to Boehner putting the screws to Issa?

Issa must be feeling no love from Boehner, or Boehner’s also looking at trying to undercut opposition to him retaining the Speakership should the GOP hold the House as expected. Divide and conquer. Give the nuts the investigations they want, knowing they’ll end with lots of noise and fury, but not much else.

Mission Improbable: Trey Gowdy gets into Benghazi

There are questions about what the select committee will set out to do and what it can actually yield. And the man who will head the committee, South Carolina Republican Trey Gowdy, will be following in the footsteps of no less than eight congressional committees in the House and Senate that have investigated the September 2012 attacks on a U.S. mission in Libya.

One thing is for certain: The Gowdy probe will last into the fall — keeping Benghazi in the news for the 2014 midterm elections.

re: #21 Pie-onist Overlord

Yeah, you could point to any random open field, because GOP tends to win those rural districts. Not many people around. Lots of farm animals and crops though.

Cities are tough though. Some did suffer tremendously from race riots, social tensions, crime epidemics, lead contamination (which some studies suggest was behind the crime epidemic and subsequent elimination of leaded gas has helped reduce prevalence), and Democrats were in charge of some of those cities. Government policies also pushed people towards suburbs (encouraging driving, highways, sprawl, etc., and depopulating urban areas especially as factories shut down in the Rust Belt and new industries/businesses didn’t require the workforce sizes that the previous industries did.

But not all cities. And some cities run by Democrats have turned the corner and are now dynamic engines of growth, including NYC. Or SF. Or Austin (deep in the red heart of Texas).

But that’s something that wont fit in 140 characters. TL;DR

Well there has been a call for Dems to boycott the committee.

The call for a boycott was made earlier by Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., during an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”

The congressman said Democrats should not give the select committee more “credibility” by joining, dismissing new evidence that Republicans have called a “smoking gun” showing the White House politicized the tragedy.

From my perspective, how well a city does is based as much on circumstance as on the prevailing political winds.

The conservative government of the day is being credited with the economic boom my province is experiencing but a bit of thought dispels that idea. The economic boom started when oil went above $100.00/barrel and Potash prices soared. It was just coincidence that the NDP were voted out and the SP elected at that same time.

The White House politicized the tragedy? May I remind the GOP about their nominee the guy who accused POTUS of actually sympathizing with the murderers at Benghazi but nah we can’t talk about that because the GOP has to pander to their batshit insane base who cares more about roasting Hillary for Benghazi than the actual killers and wants to believe the nothing like this ever happened in the Bush years.

“…The sad truth is that the Obama administration has made not one single move on terrorism with which the right would normally quarrel. But they simply cannot admit that this or one of their most important organizing principles is off the table: National security is as fundamental to them as low taxes and gun rights. If Democrats are not lily-livered cowards hiding beneath the camo-costumes of Real Americans, then they are missing a huge piece of their argument. So they’re doing what it takes: They’re making a national security scandal up out of whole cloth.”

Remember when in the first episode of Cosmos, when evolution and earth age was raised, there was a blackout at a certain TV station just at those moments?

It was claimed to be just a chance event.

Well, last night:

WVUE technical glitch interrupts ‘Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey’ evolution sequence

An accidental WVUE technical glitch caused 1 minute and 24 seconds of Sunday’s (May 4) “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” to be abruptly overrun with a news promo, a seat-belt-safety public-service announcement and commercials. The problem: The interruption occurred while host Neil DeGrasse Tyson was in the middle of a discussion about how global climate change millions of years ago set the stage for the primates-to-humans evolutionary journey.

The commercial break filled more than 5 minutes of airtime before “Cosmos” returned, with Tyson discussing how the gravitational pull of other planets changed Earth’s weather during the same period.

A similar glitch made news during the series’ March premiere, when Oklahoma City, Okla., Fox affiliate KOKH aired a local-news promo over a similar Tyson sequence about evolution, causing some observers to wonder if the sequence had been censored. KOKH issued a Twitter apology for the 20-second goof, and told the Los Angeles Times it was due to “master control operator error.”

[…]

It’s obvious to me now: these aren’t accidents or coincidences. No, nothing like that. Clearly this is God miraculously intervening to keep his chosen ones from being deceived by Satan.

Let’s see -

1) Health care is just like the Holocaust. Check.
2) Attending a political/journalism event is just like rape. Check.
3) Benghazi and 9/11. (etc)… Check.

Using words that don’t mean what they think it means? It’s the GOP way. And it demeans and undermines the importance of the words they have chosen.

There’s a reason that Holocaust is such a strong word. Millions were purposefully murdered because of their religious affiliations. So, when you equate the genocide of the Jewish people in Europe with a public policy to expand access to health insurance, you’re denigrating the word Holocaust, and show that you’re classless.

There’s a reason the word rape is a strong word. You’re talking about the violation of another person sexually, and it’s one of the worst crimes you can perpetrate on another. So, to equate this forceful act with voluntarily attending a political event? Yeah, you’re an asshole.

It’s obvious to me now: these aren’t accidents or coincidences. No, nothing like that. Clearly this is God miraculously intervening to keep his chosen ones from being deceived by Satan.

I can’t help but wonder if the people responsible for these events are even aware of what they are doing. 110 Charles Johnson  May 5, 2014 1:32:39pm

By the way, folks, I was just checking out system logs and noticed that some of you occasionally have multiple login attempts and failures, even with a correct password.

This happens because there’s a throttle on how quickly logins can be submitted; you have to wait at least 10 seconds after a login failure to try again.

The throttle is there to prevent dictionary attacks, where a hacker tries to submit as many passwords as possible very quickly. The 10-second delay after a failure is enough to make this kind of attack pointless.

Speaking of cognitive dissonance, American politics specializes in this as that is how to get elected.

To whit:

Podesta touts White House record on oil and gas, climate change

White House counselor John D. Podesta on Monday touted the administration record on energy production as well as climate change, arguing Democrats can run this fall on the fact they have bolstered the nation’s oil and gas industry while tackling global warming.

[…]

Oh yes, let’s increase our fossil fuel production, that’s a good way to tackle climate change.

Seriously, this is one of the stupidest things this Administration has tried.

They can’t own the fact that this is more of an either/or choice than their political theory can allow.

Florida Man Requests To Marry ‘Porn Filled Apple Computer’ In Super-Clever Marriage Equality Protest

In his motion in the Utah case, Sevier laid out his totally air-tight argument, warning that marriage equality and the “slippery slope” he warns will ensue will result in Americans “becoming salves of our glands, not slaves of virtue”:

There’s seems to be a running theme of not understanding consent amongst wingnuts. Not w/r/t rape, nor marriage, nor dating, nor sex.

I’m beginning to think that it’s not a mistake that it’s always a worry about “man marries dog”—emphasis on man. Women don’t seem to actually get to say yes or no.

The Origin of The legendary Tactical Wheelbarrow

Gunkid was well……a psycho. He was interested in survival after TEOTWAKI. This is not an unhealthy interest, unless you happen to be Gunkid.

He advocated making and selling meth to fund firearms purchases, and filing off all the serial #’s off guns and burring them in your yard in old water heaters. (IIRC) He also had this plan for an “attack wheelbarrow” where he would be able to take all of his survival gear with him. His plan was to murder and steal whatever he needed to in order to survive TEOTWAKI. In his wheelbarrow he would carry attack Chihuahuas in cages that he would let out to attack people to steel their food an ammo.

I dont rememebr all the details, but thats about it. Hes in prison for NFA violations. This all went down in the internet before my time, but Ive read it in archives of websites. I think this was around 01-02.

ETA: And he was a massive troll, I dont know how much he bothered arfcom, but he continued to troll other firearms website Im a member of up till his incarceration. He had his own forum on another website. Frugal Squirrels maybe? It kinda kept him corralled.

ETA2: And he made threats against a board member from another board and I think he even got their # and called them. Like I said….he is a fucking psychopath. And a coward.

U.S. recognises Syria opposition offices as ‘foreign mission’

The United States said on Monday it would recognise the main opposition Syrian National Coalition offices as a diplomatic foreign mission and announced plans for a $27 million increase in non-lethal assistance to rebels fighting to oust President Bashar al-Assad.

The announcement came at the start of a visit to Washington by a Syrian opposition delegation led by Ahmad Jarba, president of the coalition, also known as the Syrian Opposition Coalition. He is set to meet U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Thursday.

Case and point. And a new paper has just been published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives that finds that the risk of dying from heat waves in the U.S. has been on the decline for the past several decades.

Trying to impress with “… we had an article published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Nature Climate Change…”.

But, if we go to the “article”:

nature.com

we see that it is in the “CORRESPONDENCE” section of that Nature Climate Change edition.

In other words, it’s nothing but a really fancy Letter To The Editor.

The deniers have tried this before, positioning “correspondences” published by journals as actual reviewed papers in these journals.

This is very deceptive.

Oh, and that second, an actual paper, that Michaels references?

It’s here: ehp.niehs.nih.gov

And here is the conclusion:

The population has become more resilient to heat over time. Yet even with this increased resilience, substantial risks of heat-related mortality remain. Based on 2005 estimates, an increase in average temperatures by 5°F (central climate projection) would lead to an additional 1,907 deaths per summer across all cities.

The professional, that means paid, deception of CATO and Michaels is overwhelmingly demonstrated over and over.

Yet they are offered up over and over by the hate-right and the know-nothings as “experts”.

Experts at lying, they are.

There’s been an increase in activity lately
US: Russian planes more active in Asia-Pacific

The commander of U.S. air forces in the Pacific is reporting a significant increase in activities by Russian planes and ships in the region.

Gen. Herbert Carlisle linked that to the situation in the Ukraine. He said Russia was demonstrating its capabilities and gathering intelligence on U.S. military exercises.

Carlisle said there had been long-range Russian air patrols to the coast of California and a circumnavigation of the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam. He said a U.S. F-15 fighter jet intercepted a Russian strategic bomber that had flown to Guam.

He also reported a sharp increase in Russian air patrols around Japanese islands and Korea.

Carlisle said there was a lot more Russian ship activity too.

Another lucky pilot.

Wasilla pilot rescued from trees by MEA boom truck crew

A Wasilla pilot had to be rescued after his small plane became stuck in a tree about 50 feet off the ground Sunday afternoon, Alaska State Troopers reported.

Troopers said 58-year-old Edward T. Merren, of Wasilla, took off from a grass airstrip near Meadow Lakes Drive and Tulakes Road in a Taylorcraft when a crosswind gust forced the aircraft into nearby trees.

Troopers and emergency medical services responded to the scene, then summoned Matanuska Electric Association, which used a boom truck to rescue Merren from the stranded plane. Merren was uninjured in the incident, troopers said.

March 27th, 2014 Bill would prevent ATMs near tattoo, piercing shops from giving cash to welfare recipients
The Senate today approved legislation barring automatic teller machines (ATMs) in or near businesses that provide bail bonds, tattoos and body piercing from dispensing cash to people with welfare benefit cards.

Senators approved the measure on a 23-5 vote. It now goes to the House.

The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Stacey Campfield, R-Knoxville, said the bill will help deter welfare “electronic benefit transfer” or EBT cards, used by welfare recipients to make purchases or withdraw cash, from using the money inappropriately.

Businesses violating the would-be law would be subject to fines starting at $1,000 for a first offense.

Sen. Douglas Henry, D-Nashville, questioned why bail bondsmen were included in the legislation and fretted detainees would linger in jail.

Replied Campfield: “He [suspect] should have thought about that before they did whatever crime they did.”

Just let them rot in jail, eh Stacey?

To be serious for a moment, I don’t really know how anyone can make that shit stop. It festers and boils, and when exposed to the sunlight, it shrinks back into its hole and bubbles up somewhere else. And there’s always a congregation of like-minded assholes to listen to it and then foist it on their offspring as “the right way.”

We can talk all we want about more education, more equality, more justice, more opportunity, more, more, more, but there is something deeply ingrained in the religious/cultural milieu of these types that will never go away.

All we can do, I think, is do all the more and keep pushing society toward a time when such attitudes will be held silently, as something to be whispered, for they know society condemns their piggishness.

But know that they will push back every inch of the way. It’s maddening, but I really can’t think of any other alternatives in a free society. If someone has any, please step up.

Same with racism, homophobia, etc.

Video

Maybe if you had watched all one minute of the video, you would have understood the context. No one at MSNBC is saying that their own network doesn’t talk about it. (CNN and Fox cover it all the time as well, just in different ways. Fox tells us that blacks are the real racists now, and CNN just frets and wrings its hands as usual.)

What Mike Barnicle was saying is that we as a society don’t really have adult serious conversations about race in America. Is he wrong?

The Arms of Individuals in Same-Sex Marriages
The text of a ruling by the Kings of Arms dated 29 March 2014

We, Garter, Clarenceux and Norroy & Ulster King of Arms, do rule, ordain and decree as follows:

(1) A man who contracts a same-sex marriage may impale the arms of his husband with his own on a shield or banner but should bear his own crest rather than the crests of both parties. The coat of arms of each party to the marriage will be distinguishable (1) by the arms of the individual concerned being placed on the dexter side of the shield or banner and (2) by the crest (when included). When one of the parties to the marriage dies, the survivor may continue to bear the combined arms on a shield or banner.

(2) A woman who contracts a same-sex marriage may bear arms on a shield or banner, impaling the arms of her wife with her own or (in cases where the other party is an heraldic heiress) placing the arms of her wife in pretence. The coat of arms of each party to the marriage will be distinguishable by the arms of the individual concerned being placed on the dexter side of the shield or banner (or displayed as the principal arms in cases where the other party is an heraldic heiress whose arms are borne in pretence). When one of the parties to the marriage dies, the survivor may bear the combined arms on a lozenge or banner.

(3) A married man will continue to have the option of bearing his own arms alone. A ruling of the Kings of Arms made on 6 November 1997 allows a married woman to bear her own arms alone differenced by a small escutcheon. That will continue to be the case but the addition of the mark of difference will forthwith be optional.

The last contact I had with them was April 16th when I sent thank you notes for the interviews only to be told that there would be another candidate interviewed the following week. Since then it’s been total silence.

I pretty much figured it was a lost cause since it’s been so long since I’d heard from them, but I wrote to the recruiter this morning anyway. I asked if there was a timeline on a decision because I hadn’t heard anything and the Jobvite was still listed as In Process. I just checked the Jobvite again five minutes ago and it said I wasn’t selected. No phone call, no “Thanks for your interest but we’re going with someone else”, no nothing. WTF.

Thankfully I’ve been dealing with recruiters for the last few weeks. I have some potential leads on work, and I’m doing some freelance stuff to bring in money, but this pisses me off. If you’re going to bring me in for an interview the least you can do is tell me you’ve rejected me. Blah.
