Elusive 13-Foot Megamouth Shark Caught Off Japan Is A Real Jaw-Dropper

A megamouth shark, one of the rarest sharks in the world, was recently caught off the coast of Japan. The elusive and bizarre deep-water species known as megachasma pelagios was discovered less than 40 years ago and has only been seen a few dozen times since.

The female megamouth shark hauled in from the waters near Shizuoka measured 13-feet long and weighed 1,500 pounds, according to Japan Daily Press. It is the 55th confirmed sighting of a megamouth shark in history.

he’ll be signed as a free agent by someone after the draft
He’ll go to their camp, last a few weeks, then get cut. From the scouting reports BEFORE he came out, he’s not rated 9by most) as an NFL quality player at his position

He just got picked up by the Rams. And I was talking about going anywhere and doing well period regardless of drafted or not. I also wasn’t implying that his draft stock was low because of his sexuality but I do want him to surprise people because I am sick of that homophobic myth that I got at.

That he is. And as you point out, long shots DO make it. But when Brady was drafted, albeit low, he did have high(er) marks for his position than Sam does for his. And a team is willing to wait for a 3rd string QB to develop. A defensive lineman,, not so much

Chinese railroad workers honored for linking East and West

“…when the formal photograph of that historic occasion was taken, the Chinese laborers who made it happen — 80 percent of Central Pacific Railroad’s workforce was Chinese — were literally out of the picture.

On Saturday, New York City photographer Corky Lee intends to “commit an act of photographic justice” and to re-create that picture, but with descendents of those Chinese laborers in places where their ancestors should have been.

It’s his part, he said, in helping them to “reclaim a part of their history long forgotten and neglected.”

NFL teams typically keep 7-9 defensive linemen (depending on if they play a 3-4 or a 4-3)

if he’s one of the top 7-9,, great. if not, he should be cut WITHOUT people going nuts

Fine (and how btw, am I “going nuts”? Again, i’m being a realist

A),,,, 7th round picks don’t usually make it
B),, 255 pound defensive linemen usually don’t make it

You might want to actually take a look at NFL rosters. There are quite a few DE’s the same size as Sam.

Check out the Seahawks. Their defense doesn’t exactly suck. And of their 5 DE’s, only one is bigger than Sam. Same thing is true for a lot of DEs in the league.

Sam is only 6’1”, 250 lbs

ESPN lists him at 6’2”, 255.

How big are the Seahawks DE’s?
6’3”, 260
6’4”, 253
6’3”, 248
6’3”, 252
6’3”, 284 (the beast in the group)
But no significant size diff between Sam and the first 4.

And, as I said, there are a lot of DE’s on other teams in his size range. Just glance through the team rosters and you’ll see plenty.

Patriots defensive ends

Armstead 6’5” 305 (much taller and much heavier)
Bequette 6’5” 265 (much taller and heavier)
Jones 6’5” 265 (much taller, heavier, and quick as a cat)
Ninkovich 6’2’ 260 (same size, but Rob is really a linebacker that puts his hand down in a stance some of the time,,, oh ,, and also quick as a cat)

76 sattv4u2  May 10, 2014 5:30:46pm

Listen

I understand that it would be a wonderful story if he makes the cut. From what I’ve read about him, and seen/ heard the interviews of him he appears to be a very nice young man

That said, the prognosticators had him LATE round pick AT BEST, and this was before he stated he was gay

The reasons,,,, his size (for that position) and lack of speed/ quikness (which are not the same thing) for a move to linebacker

his desire and tenacity are VERY high, so maybe he makes it as a special teamer! And at that, I wish him the best. Getting your dream is wonderful

Two things. First, I’m not saying Sam is BIG for a DE. I’m saying he’s in the acceptable range of sizes for DE. If you look at a number of rosters, you’ll see plenty of DE’s his size.

Second, which D would you rather have? The Seahawks or the Patriots?

If the scale was small to large, left to right, he would be anchoring the left post!

The Seahawks D was made by their secondary, not their line. Their safeties were fierce run stuffers, their corners were lock down covermen giving the line time to rush the QB

Yes, their DB’s were their stars. But the rest of the Seattle D doesn’t exactly suck. If you can win a SB with “small” DE’s, then they don’t all have to be as big as Clowney to have some success in the NFL. Seriously, look at NFL rosters. There are a lot of DE’s in Sam’s size range. Even if he’s somewhat below average DE size, it’s not like he’s a midget outlier.

81 sattv4u2  May 10, 2014 6:08:03pm

re: #80 palomino

it’s not like he’s a midget outlier

Not saying he is, but he IS on the small size of the scale AND he doesn’t “make up” for it by being overly quick/ fast like others of his size are!

Again, he seems real nice and I really hope he makes it. But on merit. And before he made his announcement the scouts had his prospects at 50/50 AT BEST

And to top it off, as stated, he doesn’t have the “quicks” for the size he is, like other undersized linemen do

OK, but speed and size are different questions. If he’s slow, he won’t make it anywhere at any position.

But we know the following for a fact when it comes to size: he’s not prohibitively small, and there are guys his size who play DE and are good at it.

yes, and those guys are the ones that make up for it by being fast or quick (for the most part)

OR ,, they have a unique skill,, like being able to play multiple positions,, or able to long snap

So it’s really the combination of a lack of speed AND relatively small size.

That’s different from saying a guy simply isn’t big enough to play in the NFL at a position.

I believe from the start I included his lack of speed in the discussion

He’s not got the size to be an effective defensive lineman in the NFL. He IS the perfect size to be a linebacker, but he doesn’t have the motor

Send him up to the CFL.
