Operation American Spring Is Going to Do It Again

Wingnuts • Views: 26,334

Last weekend’s “Operation American Spring,” organized by militia nutjobs, Birthers and assorted right wing kooks of all stripes, was a rather spectacular failure. But in true pound-your-head-against-the-wall wingnut fashion, that’s not going to stop them from doing it again next weekend.

So we have another inadvertent comedy festival to look forward to.

They will use photos of normal folks to pad their insanity. Just you wait and see. Oh boy. Look at that massive turnout. Boy oh boy.

if UR working 2+ jobs…

Well, I think that oughta disqualify most teabagging patriot revolutionaries.

6 piratedan  May 21, 2014 10:09:24am

so yeah, lets all organize to support the guys who want to give the richest people in the country a tax break because that’s sure to have a beneficial effect on the fact that I’m working two jobs…..

If you’re working 2+ jobs and barely making ends meet, Obama isn’t what’s wrong with your life.

You probably also don’t have the time and energy to make a trip to DC to go be an asshole with a misspelled sign.

If UR working 2+ jobs, barely making ends meet, then come help us fight against raising the minimum wage, repeal affordable health care, and give tax breaks to the rich so they can trickle all over you!

If you’re barely able to make ends meet, let alone working 2 jobs, you’re not going to afford going across country to show up at some confab.

1) You’re not going to have the money to make the trip;
2) You’re not going to have the time to make the trip; and
3) These guys can’t get their target demographics straight either.

Having done my time in the K empire on the retail/service end of things, as well as in the white-collar IT world, I can say with absolute objective certainty that I worked FAR harder as a bag-slinger and aisle-cleaner than I have ever worked as a code monkey. Except that now I make roughly 10 times what I was making when my job was harder and more miserable.

re: #20 Zamb

Why should I be expected to work if that work won’t feed clothe or house me?

Wingnuts don’t get the concept of rational behavior. If my options are to starve and get behind on my bills, or to starve and get behind my bills while working my ass off, as a rational actor it makes absolutely no sense for me to work. Decreasing “gub’mint handouts” won’t change that calculus, because the jobs available to me still pay shit and work me to death for effectively no net benefit.

Another possibility is that they are referring to a white person living beyond their means, which is noble because white conservatives deserve to have a sweet house with an awesome gun room. When minorities do that, well that is what they attributed the collapse of the economy to, they need to cut back and live in squalor like their noble slave ancestors who knew what was right.

Not to mention that a minority with a sweet house and an awesome gun room is obviously either a drug dealer or terrorist cell trying to destroy America.

The growth in far Right extremism is fueled not only by a right-wing echo chamber that legitimizes false propaganda about immigrants and other minorities, but also, in part, by liberal timidity, which is why Sen. Reid’s use of the term “domestic terrorist” is an important step forward in dealing with the threat of far Right extremism. I mean, terrorism.

Maybe it’s because Beyonce pays her producers & the techs involved in her shows, union scale. Also she doesn’t employ a whole bunch of minimum wage workers who are struggling to put food on the table.

What an idiotic argument. My tax dollars don’t bail out Beyonce for billions when her greed and stupidity almost crash the US economy. President Theodore Roosevelt established the first national monument, Devils Tower in Wyoming, on September 24, 1906.[3] He established eighteen national monuments, although only nine still retain that designation.[4] Sixteen presidents have created national monuments since the program began; only Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush did not.[5] Bill Clinton created the most monuments, nineteen, and expanded three others. Jimmy Carter protected vast parts of Alaska, proclaiming fifteen national monuments, some of which later were promoted to national parks. Barack Obama most recently proclaimed five new national monuments under the Antiquities Act on March 25, 2013.[6]

Not all national monuments have been established by presidential proclamation, Anon. Some have been established by Act of Congress. Petroglyph National Monument is one example. President Bush signed the bill into law.

I give those presidents credit for signing those protections into force.

If Superman weren’t crippled by being a buffoon, he could just lightspeed kill Batman. Superman is the original way overpowered character, which is why all the interesting stories about him involve him losing his powers. Batman has no powers, which is why his stories tend to be a lot more interesting from the get-go.

Nope. The navy runs a good system with AEGIS. Which was the test, not the land based BMD. You may recall they have had numerous successful tests and took out a satellite.

Adding a link and a small clip-

The improved Aegis system represents a significant increase in capabilities. The second generation Aegis system is designed to take on increasingly long range, more sophisticated and larger numbers of ballistic missiles, simultaneously. On Sept. 18, the Aegis cruiser Lake Erie succeeded on the first attempt to engage a sophisticated, separating short-range ballistic missile target with two SM-3 Block IB missiles that were launched and guided almost simultaneously to a successful intercept. Two weeks later, the Lake Erie launched a single missile that shot down a short-range ballistic missile target outside of the Earth’s atmosphere. This was the 28th successful intercept in 34 flight test attempts since 2002 for the Navy’s Aegis/SPY-1 BMD system. Of course, even unsuccessful intercepts still provided valuable test data.

In real-world tests of the in-service SM-3 Block IA missile, Aegis has demonstrated the longest-range target intercept of any system. In addition, Aegis was the first system to demonstrate ascent-phase intercepts, the salvo launching of interceptor missiles and the simultaneous conduct of missile defense and anti-air warfare operations.

After years of talks, Moscow and Beijing finally inked a $400 billion deal that will change the face of the global natural gas market.

by the end of the decade, Russia will have more ability than ever to sidestep any U.S. or European efforts use Moscow’s reliance on revenue from its energy sales to Europe as a weapon. To date, at any rate, neither Washington nor Berlin has quite had the stomach to use Moscow’s $100 million-a-day of European gas sales as a point of leverage in the standoff over Ukraine.

Russia and China Sign Mega Gas Deal That Changes Everything

Russia’s Vladimir Putin used the opportunity of this Chinese summit to complete a deal that has been threatened for almost 10 years, delivering the concessions needed to find another very stable market for Russian gas exports, which will in turn make them far less reliant upon Eastern Europe and EU sales.

That, in turn, gives them far greater leverage into the Ukraine outcome and with a ready customer to the East; they are far more capable of turning the spigots down in the winter to the West in order to accomplish political goals.

Rouhani to Putin: Iran-Russia cooperation essential for regional stability

Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Shanghai on Wednesday.

Commenting on the deep historical affinities between Iran and Russia, he said that expansion of cooperation will definitely create a safe and stable region.

Rouhani, who led a high-raking Iranian delegation to Shanghai, added that the two countries have made strategic decisions through consultations over the past few months.

The president went on to say that expansion of Iran-Russia ties will serve the interests of all regional countries.

Putin expressed satisfaction over his meeting with Rouhani and said the two countries’ stances on international issues are similar.

Panel to allow lobbyists to provide donations at any time

State election officials cleared the way Wednesday for lobbyists to deliver campaign checks from their clients and political action committees at any time, including while lawmakers deliberate the state budget and other major legislation.

For decades, lobbyists have been barred from providing contributions from others most of the time, gaining that ability only in the months before an election. But the state Government Accountability Board unanimously ruled Wednesday that a law approved in March eliminated that prohibition.

The only restriction on lobbyist giving now is one that prevents them from making personal donations until April 15 in election years. But they will be free to hand off big campaign checks from special interest groups as legislators decide whether to tighten or loosen regulations affecting them.

You do realize this has been in the works for a very long time, right? The quibble was over price. I would imagine the Chinese had a hefty advantage in that regard after Putin’s recent folly.

Also…really you are quoting Tehran Times?

Yup, for 10 years the main dispute has been over the price, details aren’t in yet but I’m guessing Putin caved. This also helps Russia to skirt whatever future sanctions he faces over his expansionism and in the near future he can afford to cut off sales to Europe or at least drive a harder bargain.

It will also serve notice to Europe to start looking for alternatives. Nothing happens in a vacuum.

Vox is stretching to find material….
The entire basis for Obama’s drone strategy may be wrong

You have to get hald way through before they admit the paper they’re basing the article on is flawed.

There are weaknesses in Jordan’s paper. Her argument that al-Qaeda is broadly popular in the Muslim world, for instance, is totally uncompelling. The data presented is circumstantial, not conclusive: Jordan doesn’t show a direct correlation between terrorist bureaucracy and resilience in the face of decapitation strikes, nor does she do a good job separating out the impact of decapitation strikes by regional al-Qaeda branch.

But nonetheless, her argument should be particularly troubling for the administration and other defenders of the drone program.

So far the foreign policy stuff from Vox has been pretty bad. The “Putin has fallen for Obama’s clever trap” article was embarrassingly bad.

It also means that China will get access to less polluting natural gas allowing for a shift away from coal, and it will help reduce the choking air pollution there (and the inevitable downwind problems that are experienced in Japan and even on the West Coast as the pollutants are spread around the world).

More on ebay…

Ebay Was Hacked, and the Stolen Data Isn’t Secure

motherboard.vice.com

“Online auction giant eBay was hacked back in February, and is just now telling all users to change their passwords. According to the company, it only learned about the breach just two weeks ago, indicating the attackers were skilled in evading detection systems at one of the most high-profile Internet companies in the world.

“The only piece of good news is that no financial data was stolen, but amidst the compromised information were users’ encrypted passwords, home addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth. Ebay wouldn’t tell me what level of encryption was wrapped around those passwords, so it’s difficult to tell how well protected users credentials were, and still are.

(snip)

“Encryption, where data is protected with a digital lock and key (or a two-way function, in security speak), is not an effective way to protect passwords when compared to hashing (a one-way function that turns the password into garbled nonsense with no key to turn it back). Thorsheim told me he was concerned to hear eBay say it was using regular encryption, rather than hashing, as in the case of Adobe, which was hacked last year and was criticised for using weak encryption methods.” More

Has anyone been watching the Years of Living Dangerously on Showtime? God, I don’t know whether to cry or scream with each new episode.

If you’ve not seen it, it’s about climate change and pretty much what we’re not doing about it, or if we are doing anything, who/what has to be fought against to get anything done.

The last one had America Ferrera going to places tracking down this asshole from the Heartland Institute named James Taylor who goes all over the country to stop state legislatures from adapting ANY kind of alternative energy policy. His efforts were narrowly defeated in Kansas, but good GOD I just wanted to throw something at my TV watching this smug douche lie his ass off to people.

The other part of this episode had Mark Bittman from the NYT looking at emissions from natural gas wells and fracking. Yipes, it’s not as clean as one would think. Anyhow, it’s worth watching the series, it’s heartbreaking and angering, but it’s worth the time, IMO.
