Richard Mourdock to Indiana GOP Convention: Obama Is Turning the US Into Nazi Germany

And the crowd goes wild
Wingnuts • Views: 24,170

The Republican state treasurer of Indiana brings us today’s Great Moment in Republican Rebranding: Richard Mourdock Says Nation Going Way of Hitler’s Nazi Germany.

FORT WAYNE - Reaction ranged from anger to shock to befuddlement after Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock compared the nation’s direction to Hitler’s Nazi Germany during a farewell speech at the Indiana Republican Convention on Saturday.

“The people of Germany in a free election selected the Nazi Party because they made great promises that appealed to them because they were desperate and destitute. And why is that? Because Germany was bankrupt,” he said.

Mourdock, who has stoked outrage with incendiary comments in the past, then alluded to the 70th anniversary last week of the D-Day invasion during World War II, saying, “The truth is, 70 years later, we are drifting on the tides toward another beachhead and it is the bankruptcy of the United States of America.”

This right wing caveman from Indiana was last seen at LGF when he was running for the Senate in 2012, at which time he thought it would be a good idea to announce that if women get pregnant from a rape, it’s “something God intended.”

So how did the audience of Indiana Republicans react when Mourdock made these insane statements yesterday? With gasps and disapproval?

Of course not, silly.

The speech received a standing ovation from the nearly 1,700 delegates from across the state.

But if you ask him why, if we’re “becoming” like Nazi, he’s not already in a cell for speaking against the administration, you’ll get some bluster about how we’ve not reached that point yet, before moving on. Or, if he’s really off his nut, declaring that the President wouldn’t dare try that because Americans wouldn’t stand for it and would rise up with their guns.

I think he’s the Perfect Republican. He voices the GOP platform succinctly and accurately. He’s a veritable Poster Boy for the Grifters On Parade. Nicely done Richard. Very nicely done. Leave no doubt. None. And the crowd went wild.

So I take it that according to Mr. Mourdock, I can look forward to this as the new US national anthem?

A government that oppresses minorities, promotes family and children to the point of saying that women have no other use to the state besides producing more soldiers, extols the virtues of military service and loyalty to the state, and snuffs out dissent through imprisonment or summary execution?

“The people of Germany in a free election selected the Nazi Party because they made great promises that appealed to them because they were desperate and destitute. And why is that? Because Germany was bankrupt,” he said.

There have been loads of bankrupt and destitute countries throughout history. What makes Nazi Germany stand out was the totalitarian control that allowed a genocidal mania to sweep through a modern, Christian, educated society that also was attempting to conquer the world. Most political attempts to wrestle with economic woes do not yield such movements.

Ex UN envoy predicts Syria will be ‘failed state’

Mr Brahimi made the comments in an interview with German newspaper Der Spiegel in one of his first interviews since stepping down.

“It will be become another Somalia,” he warned. “It will not be divided, as many have predicted. It’s going to be a failed state, with warlords all over the place.”

He criticised Iran and Russia for supporting the Syrian government, and said President Bashar al-Assad was “100% aware” of the way the war was being conducted.

26 Charles Johnson  Jun 8, 2014 11:33:32am

These days, people don’t even blink when a Republican spews idiocy about Nazi Germany. It’s become completely commonplace, at the highest levels.

27 jaunte  Jun 8, 2014 11:41:14am

Richard Mourdock, Postmodernist Conservative.

“The contemporary proliferation of bullshit also has deeper sources, in various forms of skepticism which deny that we can have any reliable access to an objective reality and which therefore reject the possibility of knowing how things truly are. These “anti-realist” doctrines undermine confidence in the value of disinterested efforts to determine what is true and what is false, and even in the intelligibility of the notion of objective inquiry. One response to this loss of confidence has been a retreat from the discipline required by dedication to the ideal of correctness to a quite different sort of discipline, which is imposed by pursuit of an alternative ideal of sincerity. Rather than seeking primarily to arrive at accurate representations of a common world, the individual turns toward trying to provide honest representations of himself. Convinced that reality has no inherent nature, which he might hope to identify as the truth about things, he devotes himself to being true to his own nature. It is as though he decides that since it makes no sense to try to be true to the facts, he must therefore try instead to be true to himself.”

But never ask them how, because if you actually try to hold an intellectual debate with them about how America is becoming “just like” Nazi Germany, their eyes spin like the wheels in a slot machine while they babble about how things aren’t “how they used to be” and that’s just downright “unAmerican.”

Interesting (short) article from the Guardian written by a photographer who spent a period embedded with the 501st and met Bergdahl - a few months old, so it’s before all this mess.

Bowe was a softly spoken, intelligent and thoughtful guy. On one of the nights - we weren’t really supposed to - but we walked over to the Afghan National Army position on the top of the hill. They had their own tent a bit away from us. We ate some lamb with them. He and the others were interested in the Afghans. One of the others was the son of a missionary, and he’d lived in different bits of South America.

The unnamed operative who gave us the term “reality-based community”, in the same interview, went on to say that the Bush team created its own reality.

The aide said that guys like me were ”in what we call the reality-based community,” which he defined as people who ”believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.” I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. ”That’s not the way the world really works anymore,” he continued. ”We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality — judiciously, as you will — we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors … and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.”

When I read that, my first thought was, “We have our first post-modern presidency.”

I’ve always felt ambivalent when I hear people talk about how there’s no such thing as objective journalism. On the one hand, I understand that, but I don’t think it eliminates the need to try to pursue it. One tries to understand as best one can while knowing that our understanding will always be inadequate, but we must try or it will be grossly inadequate.

Just thinking out-loud here, I wonder how much this has contributed to the spread of conspiracy theories.

LAS VEGAS — Two Metro Police officers have been shot in an officer-involved shooting near Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.

According to police, two people walked into a Cici Pizza restaurant at 309 North Nellis and appeared to target two Metro officers who were eating at the restaurant. One person shot one officer in the head. The second person shot the second officer. There is no word on the officers’ conditions.

The two suspects then left the restaurant and went into the Wal-Mart store across the street. Police have surrounded the Wal-Mart.

OK, it is time to make clear to the rest of the country what a bunch of lawless fucks these sovereign citizens are. (Yeah, I’m jumping to conclusions, but this is not far from Bundy’s after all.) Sure, some police use excessive force and are scumbags, but there are processes for addressing that. I don’t think the vast majority of Americans want to live in an anarchist ‘wild west’ where shooters come in restaurants and shoot diners.

I don’t imagine this bodes well for open carry. People are not going to want others parading around with guns.

And no, good guys with guns don’t stop bad guys with guns in restaurants. Those police were highly trained good guys with guns and look what happened.

Oddly enough, it’s the same policy that virtually every empire in history has operated under, the idea that “the natives” are a bunch of ignorant savages, as if they weren’t then they wouldn’t be occupied. Thus we’re there to bring them civilization/order/democracy/etc and any attempts to resist will not be tolerated. The only thing that’s evolved is the manner in which resistance is dealt with.

It appears to be two different incidents. One at the restaurant (2 cops shot) and 3 shot at Walmart.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV mynews3.com) — It appears that at least three people have been killed in a mass shooting inside Walmart at North Nellis and Stewart today.

A News 3 photographer saw three body bags being brought out of the store shortly before noon.

A Metro radio call at 11:50 a.m. said the man was armed with the rifle and a bullet-proof vest and was shooting inside the Walmart.

A previous radio call indicated that Metro officers were down at 309 N. Nellis and may have been wounded.

A News 3 photographer on the scene said an officer told him that one officer had been shot.

Early radio calls indicated two suspects were involved.

Metro has the building surrounded and ambulances are being summoned to the area which is just south of Stewart Avenue.

11:38: a.m. — The first radio call said officers were down at 309 North Nellis which is a Cici’s Pizza. It appears two people walked in and shot two Metro police officers.

12:00 p.m. — Metro SWAT units have entered the Walmart store.

12:02 p.m. — A Metro radio call says there is one body in aisle 11 at Walmart.

12:16 P.M. — Metro’s armor unit is en route to the scene.

12:35 p.m. — A radio call indicated that three victims were located in one aisle and at least one suspect was on the floor in the northwest corner of the store.

Parts of Karachi shut down following party leader’s arrest in UK

Businesses in parts of Pakistan’s most populous city shut down Thursday, amid uncertainty and tension tied to the recent arrest, by London police, of the leader of one of the country’s most powerful regional parties.

Video from CNN affiliate Geo TV showed shops that had closed or were in the process of closing in Nazimabad, Liaquatabad and other parts of Karachi.

“There are elements that are forcing people to shut down their shops and businesses,” local trade society president Tajir Ittehad Ateeq Mir told reporters.

Such shutdowns have been connected to the arrest in London of Altaf Hussain, head of Pakistan’s Mutahida Qaumi Movement, on Tuesday morning.

The attack happened at a terminal not generally used for commercial flights but for special VIP flights and for cargo.

Karachi is Pakistan’s largest city and has been the site of frequent militant attacks in the past. It is the country’s economic heart and any militant activity targeting the airport likely would strike a heavy blow at foreign investment in the country.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. Pakistan’s government has been trying to negotiate a peace deal with militants mostly based in the northwest who have been waging war against the government. But the talks have had little success, raising fears that the militants will increase attacks across the country.

Foreign intelligence accused of Afghanistan assassination attempt

Afghanistan has accused “foreign intelligence services” of being behind an attack targeting presidential front-runner Abdullah Abdullah that killed 12 people, in a veiled reference to Pakistan. Abdullah survived the assassination attempt on Friday when two blasts, including a suicide bombing, hit his campaign motorcade in Kabul ahead of next weekend’s hotly contested run-off election.

“Initial investigations indicate foreign intelligence services were involved in this incident through [Pakistan-based militant group] Lashkar-e-Taiba in an organised manner, and the terrorists were aiming to disrupt the election,” Afghanistan’s national security council said in a statement.

Maybe Pakistani intel is making some moves.

I’m beginning to think that part of the plan for the Open Carry groups is to desensitize future victims to the presence of assault weapons.

And whatever the Second Amendments says about being allowed to “keep and bear arms,” I’m pretty sure that body armor isn’t a weapon. If you aren’t in an occupation that necessitates wearing a bulletproof vest or tactical helmet, tough shit.

I bet it’d take some of the piss and vinegar out of these manly men who think they’re one part Rambo, one part Chuck Norris.

Read more at philly.com

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A couple train cars are hanging partly off a suburban Pittsburgh trestle above the Youghiogheny River after derailing, scaring people below who thought the train was ready to plunge into the river.
CSX said about 12 cars of a train derailed around 11 p.m. Saturday in McKeesport while heading from New Castle to Connellsville.
It says the 88-car train was carrying mixed freight, including carrying scrap metal and “light petroleum.”
