I saw something like that on Facebook. The linked blog post quoted a news source, in an attempt to claim that news sources weren’t telling us about the guy who got himself killed. Nobody noticed the irony in that.

And that, friends, is why “Nobody Could Have Predicted” that The Millers would go on a killing spree.

From below, where it killed the thread.

Vegas gunman made no secret of extreme views

Jerad Miller was ready to share his anti-government views with just about anyone who would listen, views that telegraphed his desire to kill police officers and his willingness to die for what he hoped would be a revolution against the government.

He told neighbors, television reporters and the Internet. Once, he threatened to attack a Nevada court while on the phone with the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

If local or federal authorities were monitoring his online rants and increasingly sharp threats, they aren’t saying — not with police still investigating what triggered Miller and his wife to gun down two officers and a third man Sunday before taking their own lives.

Forget the RWNJ boards, I wish I hadn’t seen that sentiment expressed here on LGF.

The idea that there is an obligation for armed bystanders to intervene in an active shooter situation is bad craziness.

24 Justanotherhuman  Jun 10, 2014 4:09:34pm

I don’t know, but from what this story relates, it sounds as though Mr. Wilcox was well-meaning but may have been going about “protecting other people” in the wrong way, esp by carrying a gun. This means he may have been looking for trouble when he carried it. I’m sorry this man is dead—he thought he was doing the right thing, but he did not have the training for it.

“He was very protective of other people. The reason he got that gun was because he got tired of people like that,” people who would pick on others, Debra Wilcox said.

“Joseph Wilcox’s uncle John Wilson, during a phone interview, described his nephew as someone who wasn’t political. “But he definitely believed in the right to bear arms and the right to defend yourself and others,” Wilson said.”

And in a bit of irony,

“Wilcox had considered joining the Metropolitan Police Department several times, his mother said.

“I told him I didn’t want him to be a cop, because he could go out and get shot,” she said shaking her head.”

With police training, Mr. Wilcox might have handled the situation much differently and be alive today.

Third active gunman in this case, which Wilcox didn’t know, and is why you don’t just whip out your weapon and start shooting without knowing exactly what the situation is.

It’s hard tel tell about what he knew about the situation. Even a well trained officer will draw his gun and warn the suspect not to draw his weapon. In a robbery this will usually work or you can fire before he points the gun at you, in a mass murder spree not so much. Also it seems the wife, who was unknown to him at the time is the one who killed him. Police die all the time, even with proper training. These situations are dangerous. Obviously he lost but that can happen even without mistakes

Yet I remember the gun nuts and the NRA saying that if only there had been good guys with guns in that darkened Colorado movie theater massacre by James Holmes they could have stopped him.

Bullshit, bullshit, and double-plus bullshit. Instead of 12 dead there would have been dozens, probably more, as these yahoos started firing at each other and everyone else who just happened to be in the way.

Then, of course, the cops would have to try figuring out who the “good” guys were.

Idiots, every single one of them, and damn them and their stupidity to hell.

Oh, just stop.

The police knew they had 2 people on the run and were pursuing them.

It’s the difference between being a bystander with a gun and a cop who is constantly being kept apprised of where the perps are. He could have been mistaken for a perp himself.

Of course he didn’t see the wife, “who was unknown to him”. I doubt anyone in that store at the time knew what was going on, either. If he had backed off instead of trying to take matters into his own hands, he would still be alive.

That’s the thing, where in context when you have exposure to very little of the full-breadth of knowledge that comes with hindsight, how do you make that call? That’s why you frequently see people revisit what they know of a murderer, trying to figure out if they could have/should have seen it. You don’t have to be a doctor for that to happen.

Breaking

Eric Cantor losing to Tea Party candidate.

End alert.

Extremist losing to someone who’s even more extreme and even less schooled in politics. IOW, the GOP moving even more to the right as the few semi-sane GOPers will see this and think their only play is to become even more radical, instead of moving towards the center and consensus.

Because the GOP extremists think that the nation is going to follow them down the rabbit hole.

Update: Seattle Pacific University shooter went off medication, prosecutor says

The gunman who killed one student and wounded two others at a small Seattle college last week had stopped taking his medications because he “wanted to feel the hate,” and he detailed his plans in a handwritten journal for two weeks before the attack, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

“I just want people to die, and I’m gonna die with them!” Aaron Ybarra wrote the day of the shooting, King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg said.

re: #105 Justanotherhuman

Just read his feed. It’s insane.

There’s a huge soccer match at MetLife stadium tonight, and this appears to be affecting roads and rail in and out of Hoboken and Weehawken

According to a law enforcement source, the Hudson County emergency center received a call around 5:45 p.m. from a man who said he was on his way to New York to do harm. Police tracked the phone call and found that it came from the Hoboken/Weehawken area. Police are now checking rooftops and buildings. Streets have been closed in the area.

Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service was suspended, but is now only bypassing the Lincoln Harbor Station. Tunnel traffic is not affected. At one point, all roads in and out of Hoboken, N.J., were blocked but now have reopened. SWAT teams are all over the area.

According to police sources, the threat was a short call with no specific target, but authorities are being cautious.

He’ll probably go to a conservative think tank or lucrative lobbying position, while he plans his political comeback. Doubtful he’ll badmouth the gop, or even the TP, at least not directly. He’s still young for a pol, and probably wants to hold elective office again. Can’t burn too many bridges if you want to get back in the game.

The results are a really shitty birthday present for Cantor, who just turned 51 a few days ago. Boo fucking hoo.

They held control of the House despite losing the aggregate national vote by about a million. Don’t forget also that voter ID is getting more prominent.
