BLM Officer and Highway Patrolman Shot in Nevada County, CA by Suspected Right Wing Extremist

Another attack by a “sovereign citizen?”
US News • Views: 33,272

It looks like we have another sovereign citizen trying to murder police.

***CAVEAT*** It is not yet confirmed that the links below are one and the same with this person.

A Bureau of Land Management ranger and a California highway patrolman were shot during an armed confrontation on Saturday, the Sacramento Bee reported.

Authorities identified the suspect as Brent Douglas Cole, 60, according to the Bee. The shooting took place in the Tahoe National Forest in Nevada County, Calif., which borders Nevada. The BLM ranger had called for the highway patrolman’s assistance, according to the Bee.

The injuries for the law enforcement officers were not life-threatening, the newspaper reported. Cole was shot as well and was in stable condition at a nearby hospital as of Monday.

More: BLM Officer, Highway Patrolman Shot in Nevada County, California

Googling Brent Douglas Cole leads you to a load of links at kookspiracy sites like OPED News, United Truth Seekers, and what might be the suspect’s twitter feed. **NONE OF THIS IS YET CONFIRMED by authorities or media, if you share do so with disclaimers.***

All of that said, this guy appears to be three sacks of hammers full of Sovereign Citizen crazy.

UPDATE at 6/17/14 12:13:01 pm

And … he appears to be anti-semitic as well:

The suspect also appears to be a dyed in the wool Birther: see obamaconspiracy.org.

It’s also possible that he and a relative were served an eviction notice in Anchorage Alaska back in 2007.

UPDATE: we have media confirmation from TPM and SPLC

The Southern Poverty Law Center, in research shared with TPM on Tuesday afternoon, linked Cole to an online profile in which he described himself as “a sovereign American Citizen attempting to thwart the obvious conspiracy and subterfuges of powers inimical to the United States.”

“Sovereigns believe that they — not judges, juries, law enforcement or elected officials — get to decide which laws to obey and which to ignore, and they don’t think they should have to pay taxes,” the SPLC has written in its summary of sovereign citizen beliefs.

Someone using the name Brent Douglas Cole uploaded Google documents that were purportedly filed in his defense for the January arrest. Those documents have not been independently verified by TPM, but they carry the same case number as the firearms case.

His court case in California is apparently for carrying a loaded firearm on his person and having a concealed firearm in a vehicle (related to his June 5 FB post). He had a pre-trial conference scheduled for June 30.

I always thought inciting violence was against the law. At least that’s how Tom Metzger and his white supremacist group got hit with a $12.5 million dollar judgement against them up in Portland, OR in relation to the murder of Ethiopian exchange student Mulugeta Seraw.

I believe it’s referred to as “vicarious responsibility” or something of that nature. One of these, it’s most likely how Pam Geller and Robert Spencer will be taken down.

In 1988, Tom and John Metzger sent their best White Aryan Resistance (WAR) recruiter to organize a Portland skinhead gang. After being trained in WAR’s methods, the gang killed an Ethiopian student. Tom Metzger praised the skinheads for doing their “civic duty.”

Center attorneys filed a civil suit, Berhanu v. Metzger, asserting the Metzgers and WAR were as responsible for the killing as the Portland skinheads. In October 1990, a jury agreed and awarded $12.5 million in damages to the family of the victim, Mulugeta Seraw.

In 1994, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to review Metzger’s appeal, allowing Center attorneys to begin distributing funds from the sale of WAR’s assets. The principal beneficiary is Seraw’s son, Henock, who receives monthly payments from WAR’s bank account.

Obviously just an excuse to attack us, because it was the US government that perpetrated the Boston Bombing. The evidence that it was a false flag is clear, convincing, and irrefutable.

Supervaccuum esset leges condere, nisi esset qui leges tueretur. Why write the laws unless you enforce them. “How true it is, that his creatures and servants have first deceived, next vilified, and last oppressed their master and maker.” “Let a state be considered as subordinate to the people: But let everything else be subordinate to the state.”
“As the state has claimed precedence of the people; so, in the same inverted course of things, the government has often claimed precedence of the state; and to this perversion in the second degree, many of the volumes of confusion concerning sovereignty owe their existence.”

“The ministers, dignified very properly by the appellation of the magistrates, have wished, and have succeeded in their wish, to be considered as the sovereigns of the state.” [Bold emphasis added]

“A state like a merchant makes a contract. A dishonest state, like a dishonest merchant, willfully refuses to discharge it: The latter is amenable to a court of justice:
Upon general principles of right shall the former when summoned to answer the fair demands of its creditor, be permitted, proteus-like, to assume a new appearance, and to insult him and justice by declaring, “I am a sovereign state?”.” Chisholm v Georgia, Dall 2, 440,452.

I’m guessing it’s going to take several of these “patriots” dying in a hail of police gunfire for these chickenshit “sovereign citizen” types to go back into their basements where they can be fierce internet warriors.

32 palomino  Jun 17, 2014 12:23:43pm

When someone includes the term “Zionist Enemy” in their tweet, you know it won’t end well. There are legitimate ways to criticize Netanyahu, Israeli policy, whatever; this is NOT one of them. It’s like starting a conversation by referring to Obama as the Kenyan-in-Chief. From that point on, the conversation has been polluted with mindless racist/anti-semitic slogans, and nothing productive will result.

Kinda reminds me of Obama’s joke about Cliven Bundy: “When a comment starts with ‘Let me tell you a thing or two about the Negro’, it’s probably not going to end well.”

“A state does not owe its origin to the government of the United States, in its highest or any of its branches. It was in existence before it. LIKE THE ELEPHANT THE PEOPLE CAN BREAK THE BONDS
If The People Will Loose The Mind Set That They Can Not Break Free.

The central banksters have conditioned the People to believe that they can not break the bonds that hold them: Just like the elephants except the People are held and “owned” only by the fake bonds the banksters issued using fraudulent debts.
Congress under the Articles of Confederation did not reconvene and authorize the change to the Republican Form of Government as required by the Articles of Confederation. In order for Congress to have done that, Congress would had to have convened under the Articles of Confederation by authority of the people in assembly on their respective counties, and voted unanimously to change the form of Government. This never happened. The purported establishment of the Constitution of the United States is therefore a nullity in Law which implemented the scheme devised by a foreign elite to usurp the legitimate government of America.

The lessons of history show that when tyranny is appeased violence reigns supreme which is the case in the Middle East where tyranny was not only appeased by the Imam Obama, but also encouraged via his farce of an Arab Spring where Obama gave the green light to the Al-Qaida allied, pro-radical jihadist, Shariah Law or death, Christian persecuting, anti-American Muslim Brotherhood to take over the Middle East with his blessing with the resulting burning of Christian Churches and their Congregations along with the brutal deaths of untold innocents who wouldn’t kowtow to the demands of an Islamic Caliphate which is what we’re now witnessing in Iraq via a trail of “heads”, an Iraq that has been left to hang out to dry by Obama just like he did to our military in harm’s way in the war on terrorism being forced to fight under PC ROE that made the self-esteem of the enemy a higher priority than their lives, and four Americans killed in Benghazi due to no security and no help when needed when they were fighting for their lives, four Americans who were MURDERED by TRAITORS masquerading as an American government that was anything but, and for which the leaders of that dishonorable morally bankrupt government need to be tried and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The ultimate sacrifice of over 4300 Americans has been rendered in vain by the cold-blooded Obama who couldn’t care less as evinced by taking another one of his innumerable vacations on our dime while the world is burning due DIRECTLY to Obama’s Foreign NO POLICY which placates the enemies of humanity worldwide, a group of which Obama is a CARD CARRYING MEMBER!

What’s lawful about making the self-esteem of the radical jihadists a higher priority than the lives of our military in harm’s way resulting in their inordinate deaths on Obama’s watch? Easy answer, NOTHING!

What’s lawful about wanting our military to fight FOR Al-Qaida in a Syrian Civil War which is TREASON, per Article III, Section 3, of the Constitution? Easy answer, NOTHING!

What’s lawful about turning the former American dictum “Leave no one behind”
at Benghazi with “You’re on your own, I don’t give a damn?” Easy answer, NOTHING!

What’s lawful about traitorously releasing TERRORIST Taliban leaders responsible for the butchery of their own people and the killing of our troops, TERRORISTS which have no rights under the Geneva Convention? Easy answer, NOTHING!

OT, but this article, regarding a recent Supreme Court ruling, caught me by surprise.

After Supreme Court loss, ‘vulture funds’ circling Argentina’s billions

Argentines find themselves on the brink of economic calamity after losing at the US Supreme Court on Monday

The wave of joy that spread through Argentina following its 2-1 World Cup victory over Bosnia on Sunday was short-lived.

Less than 24 hours after Lionel Messi scored a masterly winning goal against the Bosnian side, Argentines suddenly found themselves at the edge of an economic cliff after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the country must pay what could amount to billions of dollars to holders of repudiated bonds from Argentina’s 2001 default.

Argentina’s fiery President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner angrily dismissed the ruling as “blackmail” by the international “vulture funds” that hold about eight percent of the country’s outstanding 2001 debt.

“It is something absurd and impossible for a country to assign 50 percent of its reserves to a single payment to creditors,” Fernández said in a televised address to the nation Monday night. The U.S. Supreme Court left Argentina on the verge of collapsing “like a house of cards,” Fernández said.

The ruling gives Fernández scant breathing space, all but forcing Argentina to reach a settlement with the creditors who refused Argentina’s offer to pay 30 cents to the dollar on outstanding bonds. Argentina doesn’t have much time; the next bond payment comes due June 30.

179 Mattand  Jun 17, 2014 2:10:38pm

Regarding the Republican thought processes behind shit like “Capturing a Benghazi mastermind is a false flag” and “Leaving the polls open too long causes fraud”:

I was listening to Anthony Bourdain on Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist podcast the other day. Bourdain was talking about how he enjoyed having Ted Nugent on one of his shows, even though Bourdain finds Nugent’s overall outlook on life repellant.

Bourdain was basically making a statement on how he finds preaching to the choir a horrible idea. The old “If I avoided everyone I disagreed with, my life would be lonely and boring” idea.

And to a degree, he’s right. You should expose yourself to other ideas and other opinions. You definitely don’t want to be trapped in a bubble, liberal or conservative. I’m guilty of that myself and actually do try to avoid that.

Here’s the thing, though: I’m getting tired of people telling me I have to be tolerant of idiots and crazy people. Like it or not, that’s what’s driving the GOP these days.

I really don’t understand why I have to go “Oh, it’s important to break bread with a guy like the Nuge who essentially threatened Hillary Clinton and Obama over a non-existent gun ban.”

I’m sure John McCain and Lindsey Graham love their families, blah blah blah. But their day job is destroying Obama at the expense of the country. Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter literally lie on a daily basis to millions of seniors who watch Fox.

Why the fuck am I supposed to overlook this bullshit?

That’s what pissed me off about Jon Stewart’s Rally to Restore False Balance: pleas that both sides are equally bad are childish double-talk when one side has effectively stopped governing because the black guy won twice.

If this hurts the feelings of any of the conservatives who post here or happen to read this, good. You guys are in serious need of a fucking intervention. When the only thing the leaders of your party can say about nailing a leader of the Benghazi attack is “Send ‘em to Gitmo”, rather than “Good job, Mr President”?

You guys have a problem. A serious one that pretty much threatens all of us.

Swear to Crom, supporting the Republican party is basically saying “I am completely cool with supporting politicians who will burn down the country to get their way.”

Instead of voting Republican this November, go piss on an American flag. It’s pretty much what you’re doing anyway.

What it comes down to is that Republicans are wedded to the “long war” that is the “Global War on Terror.” It is their new “Cold War,” that thing they can use to whip up the cheap seats by declaring in a grave voice that only by electing them can America be “protected.” If we go back to the old days of approaching terrorism as a criminal matter, of trying and convicting terrorists in courts of law rather than blowing them up with drones and cruise missiles, then Republicans have no way to promise they’ll “protect” us all.

What he did in the period just before the attack has remained unclear. But Mr. Abu Khattala told other Libyans in private conversations during the night of the attack that he was moved to attack the diplomatic mission to take revenge for an insult to Islam in an American-made online video.

An earlier demonstration venting anger over the video outside the American Embassy in Cairo had culminated in a breach of its walls, and it dominated Arab news coverage. Mr. Abu Khattala told both fellow Islamist fighters and others that the attack in Benghazi was retaliation for the same insulting video, according to people who heard him.

In an interview days after the attack, he pointedly declined to say whether he believed an offense such as the anti-Islamic video might indeed warrant the destruction of the diplomatic mission or the killing of the ambassador. “From a religious point of view, it is hard to say whether it is good or bad,” he said.

Your examples involve civil suits alleging liability for specifics acts, where cause and effect can be traced after the fact. In order for an incitement to violence to actually be “against the law” and pro actively prosecutable as a criminal act the governing statute must pass the test established in Brandenburg v. Ohio.

They have raised a whole generation of Russian military men, who believe that on the territory of Ukraine it is necessary to destroy Ukrainians - those who have a different view and way of life than their pro-fascist Eurasian imagination. OK.

Yeah, I was thinking perhaps more along the lines of civil suits than criminal law. For instance, person A says, “I want you to go kill that person ‘X’ for (insert reason here)” and person B says, “Okey-doke” and then kills person ‘X’, I imagine that would cross the line of the Brandenburg test because it was a direct incitement to commit violence.

That I would imagine would be a criminal act.

From the article:

At his trial, the jury was instructed that Elonis could be found guilty if an objective person could consider his posts to be threatening. Attorneys for Elonis argue that the jury should have been told to apply a subjective standard and decide whether Elonis meant the messages to be understood as threats.

How can a jury apply a subjective standard based on the purported mindset of the sender of the message and still allow the law to have any teeth at all? Seems like when caught communicating threats any asshole could say they were joking and didn’t really mean it. The impossibility of crawling into another specific individual’s mindset is why the objective standard was established, because people lie all the time to get out of trouble.

re: #268 Kragar

Liberals, you were right

” From the beginning, most people on the left were against going into Iraq. I wasn’t. At the time I believed that the United States was under threat from Saddam Hussein. I really truly believed that Saddam Hussein was funding terrorists. We knew that. He was funding the terrorists in Hamas. We knew that he was giving money. We could track that. We knew he hated us. We knew that without a shadow of a doubt. It wasn’t much or a stretch to believe that he would fund a terror strike against us, especially since he would say that. So I took him at his word.

[…] Now, in spite of the things I felt at the time when we went into war, liberals said: We shouldn’t get involved. We shouldn’t nation-build. And there was no indication the people of Iraq had the will to be free. I thought that was insulting at the time. Everybody wants to be free. They said we couldn’t force freedom on people. Let me lead with my mistakes. You are right. Liberals, you were right. We shouldn’t have.”

He went on to declare that “You cannot force democracy on the Iraqis or anybody else,” largely because “If people vote for Sharia Law, they vote for Sharia Law.” Considering how many hundreds of thousands of lives, and trillions of dollars spent on the war, Beck put forward the idea that maybe we should never have gone in the first place.

“I have more of a chance of hacking off my loyal listeners and audience by saying this,” he conceded, “but so be it: Not one more life. Not one more life. Not one more dollar, not one more airplane, not one more bullet, not one more Marine, not one more arm or leg or eye. Not one more.”

For his conclusion, Beck said that Republicans need to listen to their non-interventionist instincts before “politicizing” Iraq and supporting another military action simply because of politics — i.e., because the president is a Democrat. “This has to become about the principles because in the principles we all agree,” he ended. “Enough is enough. Bring them home, period.”

Simply saying “you were right” is a lazy way out. Most of the surviving Lizards who used to support the war have learned their lesson, done their homework and are quite vocal about the conclusions they’ve reached. Let’s hear some analysis from Beck as to who exactly is to blame for the war, how come this all happened, and why this does not mean that the conservative movement as it exists now is a total failure.

Or perhaps I’m just being a tiny bit cynical.

There’s also a loose alliance between these orthodox, the pan-hellenic ones, and the Melkite/Coptic branches that runs back to Weyrich’s time. That alliance is one of the reasons that some of Discovery Institute’s funding went towards pimping things Russian.

So I get this msg after sharing a tweet about the Benghazi Ringleader capture - “Take my word for this, it was absolutely NOT the video that incited the Benghazi attack. I was there within hours of the initial reports and can tell you unequivocally it was NOT the video.
You can believe the crap being spewed by this administration and the rube they claim was one of the attackers. But, from someone who was there, it’s pure unadulterated BS.”

This on FB from a guy who is constantly going on about how insecure the internet is and don’t trust FB or your ISP with personal or sensitive information, etc.

Not passing my smell test…

National Report (nationalreport.net) is a satirical website. It is published by Allen Montgomery.[1]

Among headline-generating spoofs are a report that Arizona’s governor Jan Brewer intended to introduce mandatory gay-to-straight conversion courses into the state’s public school system,[2] and a report that fooled researchers at Fox News Channel, in which the President was purported to have announced his intention to spend his own money to keep a Muslim museum open during a government shutdown.[3] Another report that fooled people in Wyoming claimed that a man in Hanna, Wyoming was the first recipient of a RFID chip which, the report claimed, was part of an Obamacare pilot program.[1] A report published by National Report on November 2, 2013 claiming a fictitious Assam Rape Festival created a furor in Indian national and local media. Several newspapers and blogs reported the same…
