That’s not photoshopped. She was dropped on her head numerous times a baby.

I actually have a friend who was neglected as a newborn, so that he laid on the same side in his bassinet for weeks. The result was that the bones on that side of his head formed with a flat surface. It’s not immediately noticeable, thanks to stuff like hair and ears, but once you notice it it is a bit unnerving.

One of the forgotten bits of history centred around the Revolution was the Quebec Act, which became one of the Intolerable Acts.

So although the myth is that the Revolution was based entirely on the American colonists objections to Parliamentary overreach at least part of it was the American colonists unhappy that French speaking Roman Catholics were allowed any say in the governance of their own territories and that Some American colonists didn’t get to be rich from land sales in areas that the Quebec Act gave to the French Canadians.

Planned Parenthood Opens Aurora Health Center

City Officials Issue Permit

Aurora Struggle Reflects Growing Battle Against Politics Trumping Health Care
Statement of Cecile Richards, President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America

Today, Planned Parenthood is pleased to announce that its Aurora health center has opened and is now serving the women and families of Aurora. The decision by city officials to grant Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area a permit to open is a victory for the women and families of Aurora. Like many communities across the country, Aurora has a growing need for affordable health care and access to reproductive health care services. The Planned Parenthood Aurora health center brings much-needed health care services to the members of the community, regardless of their income.

Still, we are concerned that the struggles the Aurora center faced in opening may be reflective of a growing battle against politics trumping health care, and increased barriers to reproductive health care access. As the nation’s most trusted reproductive health care provider, Planned Parenthood is taking on that fight every day.

Here’s the tweet—it links to the GP website, which in turns links to Weasel Zippers, which in turn links to an anti-choice website called And Then There Were None (attwn.org) whose registrant is someone named Abby Johnson in TX. She’s the founder and claims to be a former abortion clinic worker. The other half of the board of directors for their “ministry” appears to be a Jennie Stone, who is also concerned about abortion clinic workers.

89 jaunte  Jul 4, 2014 11:54:43am

Amada Marcotte on Abby Johnson:

“…Pro-choicers have always been suspicious of Johnson’s claim that she saw an ultrasound-assisted abortion and then saw the light. This sort of story seems ripped straight from anti-choice propaganda and doesn’t really owe much to the daily life of a clinic worker in the real world. But this turns out to be more true than even the most cynical of us could have imagined. Blakeslee examines Planned Parenthood’s records on the day that Johnson claims to have seen this abortion performed, and found no evidence of an ultrasound abortion. When he asked her to describe the patient, she said she was a black woman, and Blakeslee discovered that the only black patient to have an abortion that day was at six weeks, not 13, as Johnson described.”

Yeah, but we aren’t the intended audience. It is meant to reinforce the outrage and then fade into obscurity without being fact checked.

For most of its history Murrieta was not heavily populated. A Basque, Esequial Murrieta, purchased the Rancho Pauba and Rancho Temecula Mexican land grants, comprising 52,000 acres (210 km2) in the area, intending to bring his sheep-raising business to California. He returned to Spain, however, and turned the land over to his younger brother, Juan (1844-1936), who brought 100,000 sheep to the valley in 1873, using the meadows to feed his sheep. Others discovered the valley after the construction of a depot in 1882 that connected Murrieta to the Southern California Railroad’s transcontinental route.

By 1890 some 800 people lived in Murrieta.[3] Today much of the site (about 50 acres) is home to a Bible college and conference center, owned by Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, which has invested millions of dollars into restoring and rebuilding the old resort rooms.[4] When the trains stopped in 1935, tourists - the lifeblood of the town - were much harder to come by. The boom that Murrieta had experienced due to the train and the hot springs gradually died, leaving Murrieta as a small country town.

Oooh! Glad to see you. I’ve been hoping to catch you to ask about the sourdough starter you mentioned last month. I tried to do it myself once, but the whole thing seemed to turn toxic so I threw it out.

Any tips?

I have known people who made their own starter, but it is way easier to get some from a friend, or order some on line (King Arthur Flour, for example) My first ‘do it yourself’ starter was pretty toxic, too, so I got some from a friend.

Once you have starter, you just need to remember it has to be fed every 12 hours if it is at room temperature, which is a huge nuisance if you don’t bake a lot. Or you can feed it once a week or so and keep it in the refrigerator. If you chose the latter, you just need to take it out of the fridge a number of hours ahead of your baking, and feed it every few hours until it is really active and bubbly.

To feed add water and stir it in, if you have too much starter, pour off the excess now. Then stir in about twice as much flour by weight.

My basic bread recipe is 1 part water, 1 part starter, 2 parts flour and some salt.

There’s a lot of information available on line. (TheFreshLoaf.com is a good source of all sorts of bread information) Many people do view sourdough baking as more of a religion than a way to get food on the table, so take what you read with the traditional grain of salt. There are wet starters, dry starters, hydration levels, various proofing methods, etc.
My interest in sourdough stems from having a gluten intolerant husband who is, however, able to eat a sourdough wheat bread if the dough sits in the refrigerator for about a week so the lactobacilli can work on the gliadin component of the gluten.

The sky is dark and hangs low

with every good deed the power returns
So turn around and look at the ship coming in for you.

I remember years ago some nutty evangelist was hauling one of these wheeled crosses around the Phillipines and was just amazed that even though the villagers didn’t speak English, they just knew that he was there to talk about religion!!!
