Wingnut Outrage Du Jour: Costco Derangement

Wingnuts • Views: 33,188

CostCo, which pays its workers a living wage, whose CEO/Owner receives less than $1 million/yr in compensation, must be COMMUNISTS!! WHY ELSE WOULD THEY REMOVE THIS BEST SELLING MOAST PATRIOTIC BOOK FROM THEIR SHELVES HURR HURR!!!!!!

Oh wait you mean it’s not selling so well? And Costco is not really a bookstore and has limited space for books? And don’t they also have a 1st Amendment, not to mention a Free Market right to decide what they will carry in their inventory?

The hysteria as wingnuts compare a private business decision to OMG OMG OMG IT’S JUST LIKE TEH NAZI BOOK BURNINGS OF TEH 1930’S HURR HURR!!!!!!

Have these freaking morons ever heard of public libraries? Where you can get books to read AND IT’S FREE.

HURR HURR TEH LIBARRIES IS NOT FREE THEY TAKES AWAY MY MONEYS IN TEH SLAVERY TAXES AND THEY HAS ALL TEH LIBTARD BOOKS!!!!!! I WAS AT A LIBARRY ONCE & ALL THEY HAD WAS TEH LIBTARD BOOKS EVERYWEAR!!!

Enjoy the delicious wingnut tears:

I don’t belong to any buying clubs, but if I did, this would be the one. : )

2 lawhawk  Jul 8, 2014 6:58:34am

Made all the more offensive by equating Costco’s business decision not to carry the book to the Nazi book burnings in the 1930s.

These nitwits expropriate the Nazi imagery, not only Godwinning in the process, but showing that they’re ahistorical and amoral.

A business decision is not in any way like a government’s torching of books it deems immoral, illegal, or worthy of being burned.

I’ll take Costco’s business sense over these nitwits any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. Why should the company carry a book that’s already on the discount shelf where they’ll have to deal with returning unsold inventory and the costs associated with it.

Long ago, I belonged to BJs, but the Costco by us carries a bunch of kosher products now, and I’ve used them to buy tires, and my wife uses them for her contact lenses. It makes a lot of sense if you’ve got kids too - great selection of fresh food too. Good for staples, and their Kirkland products are highly rated - their coffee, extra virgin olive oil, and detergents are all well regarded by Consumer Reports among others (both for price and quality).

Well Costco is a lot more quality oriented and professional than their TP critics. Obviously.

5 Pie-onist Overlord  Jul 8, 2014 8:04:51am

I don’t buy books (except for cookbooks). Every book I want to read is available for free at the public library.

Even public libraries go through their stacks and remove outdated stuff.

This one is kind of my favorite, just for its pure zaniness:

Costco laundries money for small business owners they buy cases w/cash break them down & sell 1 at a time 4 dbl the cost 4 cash. Stop it!

Vicious Babushka,

Did these people honestly believe that Costco would carry Dinesh’s book indefinitely? What do they think it is, Amazon dot com? There are books that are hard to find even in massive libraries because they have to deal with space issues.

Hahahahaha. Apparently the illiterati are unaware that it is “Costco Wholesale” as per their website.
These fiscal conservatives don’t understand that stores don’t make everything they sell themselves, in the back room? Of course retailers buy in bulk and mark up individual units.

Also, if I go through a ream of paper in 5 years, I’m happy to buy a ream at twice the unit rate compared to buying the handy 6 ream pack because some of that paper would have to be stored and eventually, buried with me. I will never use that much paper in the remainder of my life. And it would cost me more total to buy all that paper I will never use.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Costco, and I shop there, but some of their items are definitely for small wholesale buyers, not a family of 2.

Hey now, I got a deal on twin sheet sets the other day at Wildmart. One 300 ct all cotton sheets made in Pakistan, and an all cotton flannel set made in Turkey. Both were $4.50 for each set (flat &, fitted sheets and 1 pillow case). Even the cashier was impressed at my shopping prowess.

I never, ever buy anything full price at Walmart—it’s always an expedition for “real deals” so they don’t make any profit from me. : )

I think most of the wingnuts really have no intention of actually buying the book; and those that do buy a copy probably won’t actually read it. It will end up on a shelf or an end table with a bunch of other unread RW screeds as wingnut home decor.

First Ted Cruz. Now Sarah Palin.

How long before the rest of the GOP’ers in the House start writing up articles of impeachment? I’m figuring October 15 is the over/under.

And purposeful dereliction of duty is rather rich from the Governor who stepped down after only half of her term in office. And ignores that Congress controls the budget, which means that even if the President wanted to do something about the border, he would have to do so with the existing budget in place, not spending more (as is actually needed) to deal with speeding up deportations of non-Mexicans to their country of origin. Also ignores that she’s standing with those nuts who blocked the DHS from enforcing the law in processing individuals for eventual deportation.

That one should have an asterisk since the cons, themselves, have written so many books discounting so many events in history or changing them to fit their world view (see texas BOE trying to re-write history that’s taught in schools).

In other wingnut news…

GOP certifies Cochran win in MS

But the battle isn’t over yet…

The Mississippi Republican Party says U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran won the state’s Republican primary runoff over challenger Chris McDaniel by 7,667 votes.

The party sent results to the Secretary of State on Monday, the legal deadline.

The GOP’s numbers showed Cochran winning by more than the 6,800 votes counted by The Associated Press after the June election. Tallies change as county parties examine provisional ballots and finalize results.

McDaniel, a state senator, has said he would challenge the results. But his attorney Mitch Tyner says it could be days before that happens.

Tyner said representatives of the campaign were in most of the state’s 82 counties on Monday to examine ballot boxes, including absentee ballots. He said they were looking for examples of people who might have violated state law by voting in the Democratic primary June 3 and the Republican runoff June 24.

Mississippi voters don’t register by party, but state law bans people from voting in one party’s primary and the other party’s runoff in the same election cycle.

“When I vote, and there’s an ineligible voter that also votes, he dilutes my vote, he dilutes your vote,” Tyner said during a news conference Monday at the Hinds County Courthouse.

Tyner said it could be days before he reviews what the McDaniel representatives have been finding during their examination of ballot boxes. After that information is available, state law says a first challenge of election results would be filed with the Mississippi Republican Party executive committee. Tyner said that 10 days after a challenge is filed with the party, a lawsuit could be filed in state circuit court to seek a new election.

This thing just keeps getting messier.

79 ObserverArt  Jul 8, 2014 9:48:17am

The sort of hilarious thing about this is that most of us knew in or about November 2008 that the GOP would try to impeach Obama. It wouldn’t matter what he actually did during his presidency. They don’t like not getting their way. This will continue — they will threaten to impeach any Democratic President who dares to get elected.

Awesome gawker Marine Todd comment:

Toddemyos the Myrmidon was attending a symposium for a noted philosopher between his deployments to Ilium.

Just before the sacrifice, the philosopher shocked everyone by arguing that the war against Troy was being prolonged due to Agamemnon’s pride and stubbornness, and would have serious long-term consequences for the Achaean peoples, destabilizing the region as a whole. “Gods of Olympus,” said the philosopher, “if you do not strike me down within the next 15 minutes, then you accept that this destructive conflict of rage and jealousy has gone on too long!”

Several minutes drip by as honey from an amphora, while all in attendance sit in hushed silence. When the 15 minutes is almost expired, Toddemyos gets up from his seat, approaches the philosopher, and, flashing-eyed, punched the philosopher in the face, spilling his wine-dark blood upon the ground. The Myrmidon simply went back to his seat.

The philosopher came to, shaken in his spirit, and asked the Myrmidon, “By the houses of the dead, what was that for?”

Toddemyos said, “Dark-faced Ares was busy protecting the Myrmidon infantry who are out protecting your right to say stupid shit like that, so he sent me to fill in.”

“But Ares sided with the Trojans, not the Argives!” said the philosopher. “It was his sister’s quarrel with Hera and Athena that started this whole thing!”

“Yeah, I’m pretty drunk,” said Toddemyos.

re: #172 Pie-onist Overlord

Usually when I get these calls it’s a robocall and I just hang up, but once I answered the phone and there was an actual person claiming to represent “Card Services.” I asked which card was she calling about? She said “all of them!” I hung up.

This scam has been around awhile and the FTC have been going after the scammers for years. From 2012:

What to do if you’re still getting calls from “Rachel in Cardholder services”

Last week, the Federal Trade Commission shut down five operations responsible for untold number of scammy robocalls from “Rachel (or one of many other names) at Cardholder Services.” But several readers have written in to say that these calls have not ended.

“We know there are lots of bad guys,” William Maxson, an attorney for the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, tells Consumerist, adding that even though the agency was able to bring the hammer down (my phrasing, not his) on five major scammers, “There are others out there that use the same methods.”

The FTC confirms that there are ongoing investigations into other robocallers, though it can’t offer specifics since telling scammers that you’re about to bust them is not always the best way to catch them.

For people that continue to get robocalls from Cardholder Services or any other potential scam, Maxson says the fastest and easiest way to let the FTC know is to go to donotcall.gov and click “File a Complaint.” You can also call[no phone numbers allowed] to file a complaint with the FTC.

re: #188 iossarian

A liberal muslim homosexual ACLU lawyer professor and abortion doctor was teaching a class on Karl Marx, known atheist

“Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Marx and accept that he was the most highly-evolved being the world has ever known, even greater than Jesus Christ!”

At this moment, a brave, patriotic, pro-life Navy SEAL champion who had served 1500 tours of duty and understood the necessity of war and fully supported all military decision made by the United States stood up and held up a rock.

“How old is this rock, pinhead?”

The arrogant professor smirked quite Jewishly and smugly replied “4.6 billion years, you stupid Christian”

“Wrong. It’s been 5,000 years since God created it. If it was 4.6 billion years old and evolution, as you say, is real… then it should be an animal now”

The professor was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of Origin of the Species. He stormed out of the room crying those liberal crocodile tears. The same tears liberals cry for the “poor” (who today live in such luxury that most own refrigerators) when they jealously try to claw justly earned wealth from the deserving job creators. There is no doubt that at this point our professor, DeShawn Washington, wished he had pulled himself up by his bootstraps and become more than a sophist liberal professor. He wished so much that he had a gun to shoot himself from embarrassment, but he himself had petitioned against them!

The students applauded and all registered Republican that day and accepted Jesus as their lord and savior. An eagle named “Small Government” flew into the room and perched atop the American Flag and shed a tear on the chalk. The pledge of allegiance was read several times, and God himself showed up and enacted a flat tax rate across the country.

The professor lost his tenure and was fired the next day. He died of the gay plague AIDS and was tossed into the lake of fire for all eternity.

Charles Pierce shows that the 2014 Texas GOP platform has a historical basis.

The Platform
A) We strongly urge the Texas Legislature ignore, oppose, refuse, and nullify any federal mandated legislation which infringes upon the states’10th Amendment Right. All federal enforcement activities in Texas must be conducted under the auspices of the county sheriff with jurisdiction in that county.

Historical Basis
B) To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian tribes; but neither this, nor any other clause contained in the Constitution, shall ever be construed to delegate the power to Congress to appropriate money for any internal improvement intended to facilitate commerce.

The Platform
A) We, the 2014 Republican Party of Texas, believe in this platform and expect our elected leaders to uphold these truths through acknowledgement and action…We believe in:1.Strict adherence to the original intent of the Declaration of Independence and United States and Texas Constitutions…And we believe in “The laws of nature and nature’s God” as our Founding Fathers believed.

Historical Basis
B) We, the people …each State acting in its sovereign and independent character, in order to form a permanent federal government, establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God do ordain and establish this Constitution…

B are excerpts from the Constitution ……. of the Confederate States of America.

Aren’t good capitalists supposed to try to put competitors out of business? Although because Costco kills them with kindness, it doesn’t compute with wingnuts.

Honestly, seeing these reactions makes me love shopping at Costco even more (not that I believe for a second that they pulled the book for anything other than economic motives).

The only complaint I have with Costco is that many of their products have about 4 layers of packaging. Otherwise, I shop there as often as I can. Hopefully, a wingnut boycott will clear the aisles a bit…

However the wife and Mother-in-law decided to let the costco membership lapse and get one with Sam’s Club because it was A) 15 bucks cheaper a year and B) Sam’s club is closer (granted only a mile closer, Costco is about 3 miles away and Sam’s is only 2). Makes no sense to me whatsoever but they do the shopping.

How are they doing now? In the week after treatment while mine was in isolation at the hospital and then at the vet he put a pound of weight back on. (Which was good for a 16-year-old cat.)
