Rush Limbaugh: Crash of MH17 Is “An Opportunity to Abandon the Bad Obama News at the Border”

Expect the Right Wing Unison Parrots’ Chorus to chime in too
Wingnuts • Views: 40,956

Media Matters

Now that Rush Limbaugh has given them their predictable talking point, you can expect right wingers all over the Internet to start saying the crash of MH17 is a distraction from the border crisis.

LIMBAUGH: It’s a Malaysian Airlines jet and can you — I’ve got the British Open on the top menu, monitor, I haven’t had CNN on all day, what do you bet they have broomed everything and are covering wall-to-wall the Malaysian Airlines flight shot down by a missile? This is, I mean, you talk about — I don’t want to appear to be callous here, folks, but you talk about an opportunity to abandon the bad Obama news at the border, and no, I’m not suggesting anything other than how the media operates.

I see that McCain is demanding that we provide weapons to the Ukrainian government. As usual he is full of shit, grandstanding for that ever-shrinking share of the GOP pie that is not controlled by commercial conspiraliars and Putin loving seditionists. To begin with, no responsible leader is going to take that kind of action until the facts can be gathered and evaluated. Secondly, the Ukrainian armed forces literally have more weapons than they know how to use, with dozens of aircraft and hundreds of tanks in storage because there are not enough trained troops to operate them.

NATO was created to balance the threat of the Warsaw Pact. Once the latter was dissolved, NATO lost most of its reason to exist. Expanding it was even more pointless.

But I see that question as a matter entirely unrelated to what we should or should not do in the Ukraine

V.A. Official Says Fixing Issues at Root of Waiting-List Scandal Will Cost Billions

Fixing the problems that led to the waiting-list scandal at the Department of Veterans Affairs will cost $17.6 billion over the next three years, the agency’s acting secretary told lawmakers Wednesday, requiring the hiring of about 1,500 doctors and 8,500 nurses and other clinicians.
. .
His dollar estimate drew immediate skepticism from leading Republicans, including Representative Jeff Miller of Florida, who is chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee.

“Given that this figure seems to have magically fallen out of the sky today — after years of assertions from V.A. leaders at all levels that they had nearly every dollar and every person necessary to accomplish V.A.’s mission — it would be an act of budgetary malpractice to blindly sign off on this request,” Mr. Miller said in a statement. But Mr. Gibson cautioned lawmakers that there had been a “historic shortfall in internal V.A. capacity” and that the department required far more than money to simply send some patients to outside doctors.

And that specter still looms in the background.

Beyond moral and technical support, there is realistically little we can do for the Ukraine.

Jonah Goldberg, prize exhibition moron writes about how his imaginary liberals are different than real life

The Left may be anti-military, but such movies tend to do poorly, which is why we see more pro-military films. Similarly, it’s a safe bet that Hollywood liberals loathe guns. But you wouldn’t know that by what they produce. Not many action stars save the day by quoting a poem. Most Hollywood liberals probably oppose the death penalty, yet they make lots of movies where the bad guy meets a grisly death to the cheers of the audience. The Left rolls its eyes at “family values,” but family values are at the heart of most successful sitcoms and dramas.

excuse me while i make anti-military statements and roll my eyes at the concept of families

my apologies to all the wonderful army people i worked with at the Army Research Institute, and my apologies to my family, which in some incomprehensible way believe in living a moral life and supporting families at the same time that they are radical, card-carrying progressives in the tradition of teddy and franklin roosevelt

Tell me again why this fucker still has a media voice?

We picked the hottest days of the year to move. Three guys moving heavy furniture on Mon was just too much—got them lunch and the 2 helpers left. We got the rest of the stuff on Tues, and by then, I had to clean up and hired the teen next door to help, although I had to go back yesterday and did a re-do on the floors.

Total exhaustion, and don’t think I’ll set up my ‘puter but get a laptop next month. On my grandson’s gaming one now and will check in from time to time but mostly I’m “resting” and watching mindless TV after unpacking and putting everything up, although I did make both fresh yeast cinnamon rolls this morning and a pile of macaroni salad. Even though this is the same amt of sq footage as the old apt, w/3 BRs, it does seem “larger”—the power of suggestion, or optical illusion, or something?

So, what did I miss? (Wink, wink) : )

At this point, Greenwald introduces some exclusive information into the mix which discloses NBC’s ulterior motives in play: He reports “..some of the network’s highest-profile stars, were at first confused and then indignant over the use of Engel rather than Mohyeldin to report the story. But what they did not know, and what has not been reported until now, is that Mohyeldin was removed completely from reporting on Gaza by a top NBC executive, David Verdi, who ordered Mohyeldin to leave Gaza immediately.” [Bold type is diarist’s emphasis.]

We’re provided with greater context, as we learn that, in recent weeks, “‘pro-Israel’ websites have repeatedly attacked” Mohyeldin, referring to him as a “Hamas spokesman” who spouts “pro-Hamas rants.”

Being as Strelkov is Russian (and as you said, probably ex-GRU) perhaps it’s time for President Putin to exercise his Stalin Option, which is similar to the Darth Vader “You have failed me for the last time” Option, except without telekinetic strangling. The Stalin Option usually involves ‘recalling’ someone back to Moscow for ‘consultations’, said ‘consultations’ consisting of a bullet to the back of the neck.

I haven’t gotten around to looking into his “removal” from coverage yet. It might not be true or they may have just bumped him yesterday for time constraints or logistics. I did have a look at some of Mohyeldin’s previous coverage. He does have some generic progressive talking points on Israel similar to Jimmy Carter. Not to my taste but nothing too outrageous. He’s probably fine for MSNBC but mainstream NBC’s audience or management might have more of an issue with his perspective.

Apparently The Cycle crew didn’t catch it and asked if, based on his military training he might be able to shed light on what may have shot it down and his response “Boy, you’re a dumbass aren’t ya?”

A more reasonable version of Greenwald’s story…
Ayman Mohyeldin Witnesses Gaza Airstrike, but Richard Engel Reports for ‘Nightly News’
NBC used Mohyeldin’s footage but with another reporter for their segment. Mohyeldin did appear on MSNBC shows. He’s not been “removed” from reporting, they just used his footage since he works for NBC. Not a big deal as far as I can tell.

The other problem is that Putin’s got a tiger by the tail and made a nice fucking mess in his own backyard. He can, and probably should, tell all these meatheads that they’re on their own now and can’t count on a can of beans from Russia anymore, but the separatists have already got enough materiel to make a decent shitstorm in Russian territory if Russia sells them out. So Russia ends up fighting an insurgency that they started and armed; gee, where have we heard that one before.

There’s some article of faith in the Kremlin that they need a pliant weak buffer state at their border to feel safe, so they don’t really want to take over eastern Ukraine but have a cooperative and plausibly independent state that can get their noses bloodied without hurting Russia. Now they’ve got a warlord-run failed state that’s a hazard to everyone. Good work, guys.

Since I trust the Lizardim to give me better updates than “news” channels like CNN, what’s the latest on this Malaysia Airlines jet?

Just thinking aloud, if the separatists did this, and they weren’t being actively assisted by Russian units, then, well, we’d all have to believe that a 777 flying at 30,000’ was brought down by a smuggled MANPAD. I’m….skeptical.

And if it does turn out that a Russian SA-11 shot down the plane, well, what happens then?

Most likely scenario is that the separatists actually had an SA-11. Where they procured it from is an exceedingly good question.

If - and that’s a big if and a nightmarish possibility - the Russians themselves actually shot the plane down while doing air cover duties for the pro-Russian separatists, well…….shit. That’s gonna be bad.

While this is far outside the capability of any MANPADS ever built or conceived, it’s not completely outside the realm of possibility that Ukrainian separatists happened upon a Buk or five completely without active Russian assistance. This is the former Warsaw Pact we’re talking about… the place is rife with the things.

Smart money is still on active Russian assistance though, IMHO.

So, we’re supposed to believe the smoke Greenwald is trying to blow up people’s asses when everyone knows where his bias lies?

Not when we can’t trust him to tell the truth about anything.

Richard Engel is an excellent and seasoned reporter I’ve watched for years. I don’t know this other guy, but if he’s from Egypt, he might not be quite as objective.

Mohyeldin’s been doing excellent work, but he was just playing with those exact kids earlier in the day, he’s probably a bit traumatized and far from objective.

I don’t see anything sinister in pulling him from the field, maybe to send him to whatever kind of debrief the “experts” think will minimize the odds of him PTSDing.

I agree. At the same time, the international community is not going to be keen on standing by while rebels with advanced missile systems shoot down random jetliners full of civilians. This is one of those things with the potential to get multiple nations involved out of sense of self defense.

The thing that hasn’t fundamentally changed in the last 24 hours is that, if I may be so bold as to make a prediction, nobody has any idea exactly what “involvement” should look like, or what end goal is desired, and how to make that happen.

Coming soon: “If we detected the missile launch, why didn’t Obama order it to be intercepted?”

Then there is a good chance they can identify the launch point.

Issa needs to investigate the cover-up of the stand down order, which was probably issued to distract from the border crisis invasion.//

If I had to bet, I would say drone strikes…possibly from more than one country. This kind of aerial terrorism is not going to be tolerated.

WHEN did it become standard understanding that one’s bank account determined their intelligence?

re: #287 geoffm33

This isn’t the first time Russia has downed a civilian jetliner.

Amazingly enough, that was from an SU-15 “Flagon” which had ample time to identify the KAL aircraft and indeed, radioed back to control that he was following a civilian jet. He was still ordered to engage.

Around the same time that credit scores started being used to determine auto insurance rates. No joke.

I’m still liking:

“Reality Show Star”

with

“Grifters Gotta Grift” as the runner up.

I was gonna offer woefully unprepared sociopath…

Grew hemp. Mary Jane’s mellower cousin.

Not cousins. Same plant. Modern varietals are bred for THC. Old ones for long fibers.

Okay…that was funny. Crystal obviously didn’t listen when he said the plane was brought down “by a blast of wind from Howard Stern’s ass”…too bad - I like her out of the four idiots on that show. Can’t stand the Mormon Kardashian, Arrogant Ari, or Twangy Toure…but MSNBC has been going downhill since Olbermann left anyway.

Spooksylvania.

I always recommend the documentary, “Putin’s Kiss,” now on Netflix. It locates Putin’s methods very well.

Here’s what I hope/predict.

Putin will have to take a big backwards step.

313 Higgs Boson's Mate  Jul 18, 2014 5:12:31am

WTF caused Malaysian Air Lines to fly that aircraft over a hot war zone in the first place? And who in hell thought that they’d be advantaged by shooting down a civilian airliner?

I’ve become too old, the world doesn’t make much sense to me anymore.
