House Republicans Have a New Plan for the Border Crisis: Deport Everybody Right Away

And send in the National Guard
Immigration • Views: 42,179

In 2008, in an ill-advised fit of uncharacteristic empathy, George W. Bush signed a law that prevented children who enter the US from countries that do not border the US from being immediately deported. Today, the Republican Party is proposing a “plan” to deal with the current influx of migrant children.

“I’d like to act. We’ve got a humanitarian crisis on the border that has to be dealt with,” House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) told reporters Wednesday.

So, to address this humanitarian crisis in the most humane Republican way possible, the centerpiece of the plan is … changing that Bush-era law to allow deporting all these burdensome children back to the dangerous, corrupt, and often violent countries from which they fled. Were you expecting something else?

They also want to send in the National Guard, because there’s no problem the National Guard can’t fix, if you’re a Republican.

In a brief interview with The Washington Post, Granger said that her proposals would tweak current immigration laws. The goal is to “change the law - not to repeal the law, not to completely change the law but change a portion that will let us send the children back in a very speedy way,” she said.

“We’ve been to Guatemala and Honduras and twice to the border to see what is really happening. The consensus, absolutely, is that we send the children back as quick as we can. We also want to make sure the countries receiving them have the capacity,” she added.

“The president’s supplemental [spending request] asks for a lot of money, but it’s money to spend here to keep the kids, and we disagree with that,” Granger said. “The Border Patrol is doing a great job, but there just aren’t enough of them. National Guard, I think, is absolute.”

Of course, the head of the National Guard under George W. Bush has said that sending in the Guard isn’t the answer, but what does he know?

I vented yesterday on Rick Perry’s FB page about his stupidity in mobilizing the National Guard and flat out saying I would throw a party when he left office because he’s been a pathetic excuse for a governor since day one. Got some douchecanoe flapping his gums about how the National Guard could help stem the flow of diseased illegals invading the border for my time.

How could they help? 1,000 soldiers on the border, in shifts, covering hundreds of miles and without any authority to arrest or detain anyone? And for $12 million a month? WTF. I also told this guy it took a special level of stupid to look at unarmed, unaccompanied kids fleeing the cartels and calling it an invasion.

These people are deranged.

“The president’s supplemental [spending request] asks for a lot of money, but it’s money to spend here to keep the kids, and we disagree with that,” Granger said.

Oh.

So there’d be no hearing, no detention, no anything here, Rep. Granger?

And by “capacity” she means, is there literally the physical space available for them to be dropped off. We can keep shipping them back until “maximum occupancy” is reached…

I’d also add that the law hasn’t been changed yet. So Granger is saying that we disagree with authorizing funds necessary to comply with the law, while at the same time we will threaten impeachment because Obama is (allegedly) not enforcing immigration laws.

The Texas-Mexico border is more than 1,000 miles long (1,241 to be more precise). Perry proposes to secure the border with less than a guardsman per mile?

It’s a publicity stunt, and a bad one at that since it costs the state money to deploy that will have to come from somewhere else.

It’s maddening to see these terms thrown around with reckless abandon.

A lot of things may be happening.

This much is certain. Civilians are dying in Gaza. Some from direct and indirect acts by Israel. Some from direct and indirect acts by Hamas.

Israel has a responsibility to minimize casualties while undertaking its sovereign right to defend itself from attack. Depending on whose figures you use (wiki has three sets - the Gaza Health Ministry, UN, and IDF), Israel is either doing a tremendous job of limiting civilian casualties, or it’s purposefully targeting civilians and firing on civilians with reckless abandon.

The truth - as always - isn’t so clear. The IDF has acknowledged incidents where they did kill civilians by accident (several kids on a beach last week), but they’ve also identified targets in close proximity to civilians and called off strikes. UNRWA, no friend of Israel, has found two schools were used as weapons depots by Hamas in contra of UNRWA rules and backs IDF contentions that Hamas is using UN and civilian facilities as bases of operation for attacks against Israel.

Whole Lotta Derpin’ goin’ on!

(Set to Jerry Lee…Whole Lotta Shakin’)

You know, I’m beginning to wonder if the Republicans politicians are wanting to stop all these kids at the border outta fear that some day one or more of them are going to grow up and be highly elected politicians and take the seats of these bozos or their kids should they choose to go into politics.

They hear all the time…the people of color are going to be the majority in short order and Hispanics/Lations will most likely become the majority. So, stop ‘em at the gates and forestall all of it as long as we can until we can figure out a way to keep them all down even if they are the majority.

Sure seems like a lot of the policy like no minimum wage, no ACA, no jobs, no infrastructure is all geared to mess with everyone in the future. The fact that some white folks get caught up in the “changes” is just collateral damage and unfortunate but necessary.

So long as it’s a lopsided battle, these kinds of labels will be thrown around. Do I think Israel is a bunch of war criminals? No. Do I think Netenyahu gives a shit how many civilians he kills? He probably cares as much as Hamas’ leaders do…they serve a purpose - they keep the fight going. This is the future they chose for themselves and their people. Jihadists organise tours in their Syria, Iraq ‘caliphate’

BEIRUT: Known for kidnapping, public stonings, lashings and executions, the Iraq and Al Sham (ISIS) is now expanding into tourism, taking jihadists on honeymoon and civilians to visit other parts of its “caliphate”.

Running twice-weekly tours from Syria’s Raqa to Iraq’s Anbar, ISIS’s buses fly the group’s black flag and play jihadist songs throughout the journey.

One of the first clients was Chechen jihadist Abu Abdel Rahman al-Shishani, aged 26, who took his new Syrian wife on honeymoon, according to activist Hadi Salameh.

“Just after they got married, he took her to Anbar. These jihadists are very romantic,” Salameh joked.

But the two weren’t able to sit together, because “women sit in the back, and men at the front. The bus driver plays jihadist songs all through the ride, and the ISIS black flag flies over the bus. ISIS proclaimed a ‘caliphate’ last month straddling Iraq and Syria. According to a rebel from eastern Syria, the tours started operating immediately afterwards.

It firmly controls large swathes of northern and eastern Syria, the Iraq-Syria border, and parts of northern and western Iraq.

Salameh said the group’s tour buses “start their journey in Tal Abyad (on Syria’s Turkish border) and end in Iraq’s Anbar. You can get off wherever you want, and you don’t need a passport to cross the border. “The activist, who lives in Raqa and uses a pseudonym to avoid retribution from ISIS, told AFP via the Internet the company is for profit.

“Of course it’s not free. The price varies, depending on how far you go on the bus,” Salameh said.

BarbWire Commentator: Democrats Planning ‘Atrocities’ Against Jews

American Jews overwhelmingly tend to vote Democrat for one simple reason: they see the choice as being between 1) the Democrats and their belief in nothing versus 2) the Republicans and their beliefs based on their Christian faith and heritage.

Given that choice, then, rather than side with people of faith - which they see as a different and potentially antagonistic belief system - they feel safer in the party that is devoid of any values or convictions.

The “thinking” behind this is that, if people believe in things then they might fight for those things. They might even commit atrocities in their name. Only those who believe in nothing have nothing to kill or fight for. If everyone just believed in nothing, the “thinking” goes: then the Jews would be safe, for if one doesn’t believe in anything then they can’t believe the Jews are bad.

I’ve been thinking Greenwald is a Jewish name is it not? So, I checked and I find that he was of Jewish background but his family wasn’t particularly active in the faith. He supposedly was never bar mitzvahed.

So my question is…what in that background seems to make him so anti-Israel? Was there something that really turned him…or is it all based on the politics of Israel and he hates it in the same manner he attacks American politics? Anyone have a feel for why he bags on Israel so much?

I would think even if it was politics, he would still be a bit more toned down about it all knowing his heritage. Or, is that just Greenwald…use it all to rile folks up to read him, play on the libertarian/dudebros for hits…what?

I don’t think Greenwald has ever claimed any position “as a Jew.” It’s like it’s not even a part of him.

I find it more disturbing that he has refused to condemn Russia’s homophobic policies.

That makes me wonder about what his remaining family/relatives think about him. Maybe there are not a lot of family around, or he ran from them all.

And yeah, his whole handling of Russia…not only the homophobic, but the whole spy, data collection thing and the heavy-handedness of the Ukraine situation with his little buddy Snowden right there in the thick of it all.

So, Charles is probably right…all used to stir it up for the grift.

But we all have roots and we all have family and backgrounds. Seems like he had to have dumped on them and the background to be where he is.

1) Israel took fire from Gaza for pretty much every month since the 2012 ceasefire. It only retaliated after the three Israeli teens were kidnapped and murdered and the ensuing roundup of Hamas in the West Bank precipitated massive barrages by Hamas against targets deep inside Israel. One can make an argument that Israel has been extremely restrained by neighborhood standards in its use of force against Gaza but that restraint is repeatedly mistaken for weakness by Hamas and other terror groups.

2) Whose civilians are you proposing getting out of harms’ way? Those in Gaza? Israelis living in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem or Beersheva or Sderot who have to run to the shelters (if they have time to do so that is)?

127 Dr Lizardo  Jul 23, 2014 12:04:00pm

Sick, sad world.

I’ll go with the words of my old Sheikh in Berlin.

This is a call to all those involved and all those affected, and that means each and every one of us.
We are all involved and affected by what happens in our world.
We, the children of Adam, are all brothers and sisters, is as it is written in the Holy Book:

“O people, have reverence for your Lord, Who created you from a single soul; and from him He created his wife, and from them both He created many men and women. “(Quran 4/1)

We are the children of the same family and are called by different names:
The German, the French, the English, the Russians, the Turk, the Arab, the Jew:
We, together in this world, represent humanity.
This is the truth and the reality that we know, and what we accept.

In every family there may be disagreements and disputes among family members, as each member of the family has their own opinion and their own claim to freedom.
This is the law of human existence for every human being.

If the family members now argue, the head of the family has his responsibility: he has to go to those who argue and ensure peace and calm by demonstrating respect for the rights of all.

Otherwise, there is unrest and war.
In the end, all of which are then affected, and there is neither a family nor give a house.

O ye rulers; oh, intellectuals, scholars of this world, oh spiritual guides: be you Pope, or Rabbi, or Sheikh!

Pay heed!

Wherever in this world there are those among men whom God, in His mercy and wisdom, has entrusted to you, who sow discord and provoke warring groups into trying to destroy each other, it is your responsibility to ensure peace. How long will you have eyes and ears shut?

Wake up and cease to take sides in trying to wipe out the other in the most cruel way.

If our humanity is lost, mankind is finished.

Oh you intellectuals, spiritual scholars and religious leaders!
Do not push the people on the path to war and ruination.
Your task is to show people the way and not to call to take up arms against the governments.
The solution to all problems lies in wise leadership.

Come intellectuals and scribes, and call on your governments to maintain law and peace in our world!
Your task is to urge governments to show the right response to provide for a lasting peace in your own country and around the world so that mankind is not lost.

The scribes are there to give people knowledge and to give the rulers the right impetus for the correct response. You have with your knowledge a great effect on the people and their governments, and should be aware of this great responsibility and act accordingly.

Fact:
No man is born into this world as a slave.
Every man is born free and has the same right as any other to live here in this world, to live free.
Without his own dwelling place and his freedom, men become little more than slaves or prisoners and they will revolt in a bid to gain their freedom.

Why has it come to this?
God, the Almighty and the All-Merciful, the Lord of heaven and Earth created mankind with the highest honor, beginning with the first man, Adam, peace be upon him, and all his children, be they Germans, or French, or English, or Russians , or Turks, or Arabs, or Jews … all mankind partakes in this high honor.

The honor of every man comes from his free will.
God, the Lord, bestowed upon every human being free will bestowed, and when others endeavor to take that away, when that is attempted, there is war.

Without free will, there is no honor for people.

Free Will means freedom:

Free to decide on belief
free to decide on the Journey,
free to decide on location,
free to decide on a way of life.

Just as it is written in the Holy Book:
“He it is Who has made the earth docile. So is accompanied on her back and eat out of what He provides for you. And to Him shall be the Resurrection. “(Koran Mulk 15) so it is!

Life is a gift of the Lord to us humans, and each person decides for himself where his place in the world is. The Lord has given this right to each individual to decide where his place in this world is.
For peace and order to occur, is the role of governments and the task of the scholars to lend them support with wise advice.
No one in this world has the right to expel another from the place given to him by the Lord or attempt to bring harm or injury unto him.

O people, listen!
This world belongs not to any of us.
It belongs solely to the Lord of the Worlds.
It is His kingdom and in His kingdom, He has appointed mankind as His regents: Every individual is His regent. He who recognizes this and acts with care and wisdom within his place in the life of this world will live on forever and at peace.

Almost completely ineffective barrages, though. The number of Israeli civilian casualties has diminished hugely since it’s peak in, I believe, around 2002. That’s part of why this recent move by Bibi is so bizarre to me. It really doesn’t benefit Israel in the long term.

Richard Land Links Gay Rights To Nazi Germany

After lecturing liberals on why they are wrong to fault the United States for slavery, former Southern Baptist Convention official Richard Land drew a connection between the rise of gay rights and Nazi Germany.

While guest-hosting yesterday’s edition of “Washington Watch,” Land spoke with Fox News correspondent Todd Starnes about President Obama’s recent executive order to protect employees of federal government contractors from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

He told Starnes that conservatives need to stand up to “the gay thought police” or face Nazi-style persecution, mentioning Martin Niemöller’s anti-Nazi poem “First they came….”

He didn’t make that proposal, though.

Israel is, mostly, safe from attacks by Hamas. The rockets and mortars are largely ineffective—this is, again, not in the least bit an excuse for them, they are, each and every one, a war crime. The security walls and checkpoints have mostly stopped suicide bombers. It is extremely unlikely, as an Israeli, to die from a Hamas attack. About half as many Israelis have died in the current ground invasion as have died in the past five years or so.

The ‘terror tunnels’ are kind of an unknown quantity of threat, and an argument can be made they need to be sealed off, but it is already a very high price in Israeli casualties, not even looking at the Palestinian casualties.

Isn’t Pam Geller in NYC?

Sorry for the slow reply; the fire alarm went off in my building. NBD, apparently the guys working on the elevator set it off somehow.

Yeah. I’ve avoided reading anything she’s said since this started. The usual rhetorical cacophony from both sides is bad enough without adding the likes of her to it. I probably unfollowed a dozen people on Twitter yesterday.

I’m sick of it—enough already.

Such an ancient part of warfare. The farthest back I can go on the Scandinavian side of my family, a great-somethingth Uncle was a sapper in Peter the Great’s army.

The first time I ever got the stink eye from a Christian Fundamentalist was when I brought up the theory that sappers undermined the walls of Jericho, and that the army sounding horns was to hide the sounds of the digging.

Next time get an even bigger stinkeye by cheerfully informing them that Jericho has been discovered by archaeologists and it never had any walls.

Well, of course it doesn’t have walls NOW.

LOL, I will, but this was 15 years ago, so I doubt I’m running into the guy any time soon.

I wonder why the horn bothered to erase all the digging for the foundations, of the walls, too.

Also, the town was abandoned in reality during that time period, which makes the slaughter of every one of its inhabitants a much less bloody affair.

Looks like we have two carrier groups in the Med. Light on F-16s, though. To make Republican hearts proud, one of them is the GHW Bush.

And the flag has a gold fringe, so the court is actually a ship, not a court at all. (and yes, that seems to play a key roll in the SC movement)

The first time I ever got the stink eye from a Christian Fundamentalist was when I brought up the theory that sappers undermined the walls of Jericho, and that the army sounding horns was to hide the sounds of the digging.

So I had a discussion with a fundamentalist Christian mathematician who said he was convinced of the Truth of the BIble because the mathematical odds of all the prophecies of being fulfilled in the New Testament were astronomical, like, he said, covering all of Texas knee-deep in silver dollars and then finding a particular one on the first try…

I pointed out that had the Old Testament been sealed away in a jar and not discovered until the New Testament had been written, that would be something, but I when I suggested that they might have tweaked it to fit, he just WOULD NOT PROCESS.

re: #64 ObserverArt

Since Charles brought up Greenwald, and discussion about him was all over the last thread I have a question about GG that may have been discussed before, but I never caught it.

US government is for all intents and purposes pro-Israel. Therefore, Greenwald is anti-Israel.

Thanks WW! Nice to update it since that’s from last month(actually two months ago as that was her second month birthday) as I obviously didn’t get many photos of her during my trip. She’s about to take her first big trip of her own tomorrow actually. Going to Peru for her great grandma’s 90th birthday.

That sound you hear is a bunch of fundie heads going ‘splodey:

Glenn Beck Is Very Receptive To The Idea That Jesus Was Married To Mary Magdalene: ‘You Could Talk Me Into That’

During the discussion, Beck’s co-host Pat Gray, asserted that he “absolutely believes” that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. Gary, like Beck, is also a Mormon and this belief, while not being official LDS doctrine, is a common belief among Mormons, and it is one that Beck likewise appears to share.

“You could talk me into that,” Beck said, arguing that it was simply impossible for Mary Magdalene to be traveling closely with Jesus and his disciples unless she had been married to him.

“It just wouldn’t have happened,” he said. “A bunch of guys traveling around with a women? Unmarried? I don’t think so”
