Ted Cruz: Is Obama Secretly Plotting to Help Hamas?

Outright lunacy
Wingnuts • Views: 34,329

Because we all know there’s nothing more patriotic than accusing the President of the United States of secretly plotting to aid a foreign terrorist group, ladies and gentlemen, I give you super-patriot Ted Cruz (seen above speaking in front of the extreme right wing Oathkeepers militia): Did President Obama Just Launch an Economic Boycott of Israel? | Ted Cruz | U.S. Senator for Texas

Taken in the context of Secretary Kerry’s comments, yesterday’s action by the FAA raises some serious questions:

  • Was this decision a political decision driven by the White House?
  • If the FAA's decision was based on airline safety, why was Israel singled out, when flights are still permitted into Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen?
  • What was the FAA's 'safety' analysis that led to prohibiting flights to Israel, while still permitting flights to Ukraine--where a commercial airline flight was just shot down with a BUK missile?
  • What specific communications occurred between the FAA and the White House? And the State Department? Why were any such communications necessary, if this was purely about airline safety?
  • Was this a safety issue, or was it using a federal regulatory agency to punish Israel to try to force them to comply with Secretary Kerry's demand that Israel stop their military effort to take out Hamas's rocket capacity?

When Secretary Kerry arrived in Cairo this week his first act was to announce $47 million in additional aid to Gaza, which is in effect $47 million for Hamas. In short order, this travel ban was announced by the FAA. Aiding Hamas while simultaneously isolating Israel does two things. One, it helps our enemy. Two, it hurts our ally.

Until these serious questions are answered, the facts suggest that President Obama has just used a federal regulatory agency to launch an economic boycott on Israel, in order to try to force our ally to comply with his foreign-policy demands.

Insane in so many ways it’s difficult to count, but let’s just start with the idea that President Obama instructed the Federal Aviation Administration to issue this travel ban, and the entire agency is helping him keep it secret.

There are Higher Truths. These include the fact that Obama is a secret Muslim who hates Israel almost as much as he hates America.

Ted Cruz is simply acting in service to these Higher Truths.

21 lawhawk  Jul 23, 2014 1:27:34pm

I don’t totally agree with the FAA ban, as they’ve issued a far less restrictive warning for far more dangerous regions. But Cruz is bat crap crazy if he thinks the order is anti-Israel and ordered by the President when the airlines were voluntarily limiting their flights to and from Israel even before the FAA order - because they didn’t want to put their gear in harms’ way (let alone their pilots or passengers).

I noted yesterday that the FAA order could be read one of two ways - either as giving Hamas a media victory that its missiles couldn’t by essentially closing TLV to traffic from the US, or it could be that the FAA order lets Israel intensify its attacks in Gaza to prevent missiles from ever hitting the airport.

IOW, Israel would use the FAA order as the pretext to continue operations until Hamas is rooted out and they’ve captured and destroyed the missiles capable of hitting the airport vicinity.

Cruz, predictably, took the first option.

The facts, on the other hand, suggest no such motivations. But watch the GOP demand investigations into the FAA handling of the flight stop for flights to TLV.

If Republican primary voters in 2016 stick to their convictions I predict Ted Cruz will be their nominee for President.

They came close in 2012, when Rick Santorum won some primaries. Instead they went with a reliable squish because “Obama had to be beaten, and Mitt can do it!”

People talking about Republican presidential nominees for 2016 tend to bring up The Squishes, Chris Christie, Jeb Bush and to a certain extent Rand Paul (he is definitely not on board with rampant militarism thinking going on in the GOP).

Ted Cruz, in my estimation, is the most dangerous one. Watch any YouTube of his father speaking.

I thought he was retired too. He has as much right was anyone else to express his opinion, I just don’t think the manner in which the situation gets talked about is in any way helpful to actually solving the problem. It seems to be more about which side can win the current news cycle.

Meanwhile, innocent Israeli & Palestinian men, women, and children keep dying, just as they have been for the past 60+ years.

43 nines09  Jul 23, 2014 1:57:03pm

At what point does the insane asylum formerly known as the GOP just swallow it’s tongue and suffocate? Clinically insane and not one fucking news service has the balls to call them out on it. Not one. Just a simple sentence. “Ted? I think you and your kind are lying, drooling cretins. Your thoughts?”

44 Kragar  Jul 23, 2014 1:57:03pm

We’re retiring our current systems for the new equipment in 2 months, so of course now management decides now it the perfect time to completely redo our process procedures for the old system.

Makes perfect sense. We’ll obviously be able to revamp a 7 year old process in less than a week, especially when it all gets junked before we’ll even work the bugs out of their proposal and we have to do it all over again with the new system.

I’m taking the day to brainstorm new ideas, which means giving my work computer the finger while I fuck off for the rest of the day.

I think the FAA ruling does force the Israelis to satisfy the FAA and reopen the airport as soon as possible. I was a little bit worried that it might provoke an overreaction but so far I haven’t noticed any. But I’m sure the Israelis want to get this over with as soon as possible.

FWIW: during the time I served in the Mekong Delta we respected our enemy because most of them were accomplished Vietcong fighters. The only outfits that gave us huge concern, though, were elements of đ𞭼 công, or Vietcong sappers as we called them. They were highly trained, fearless, and well armed. They planned and rehearsed their raids beforehand. What made them particularly dangerous was that they seemed to be more interested in killing us than they were in hanging onto their own lives. Israel seems to have created Hamas fighters and/or jihadis who feel the same way. Fighting against such people in a dense urban environment will be extremely costly to the IDF.

And I know how you feel…been there myself one time. But what happens with age is the constant erosion to good sense and then the frustration builds, and guess what? You end up feeling just like many of the older members.

re: #69 Stanley Sea

I’m going to drop this here. If you read, please try to do so with an inquisitive mind.

My point in reading it is how much language, labeling and yes, propaganda is used in the crisis.

Sorry but this is simply not true…

The logic is straightforward: insofar as Hamas hides weapons in houses (illegitimate), Israel can bomb them as if they were military targets (legitimate). Within this framework, a single function (hiding weapons) out of many existing functions (home, shelter, intimacy, etc) determines the status of an urban site (in our case the house), so that the edifice’s form loses its traditional signification.

The question “when does it become a legitimate military target?” is merely rhetorical. Its real meaning is: “All houses in Gaza are legitimate targets” since all houses are potentially non-homes.

There is no assumption that all houses, mosques or hospitals are valid targets. It’s a gross characterization and a dishonest argument. As we saw in the video of the hospital this morning, fighters were firing from the building and the secondary explosions show weapons were stored there. When a civilian building is used for military purposes it becomes a valid target.

To a limited extent I can empathize with your indifferent position on the Middle East (BTW, they’ve been killing each other there for centuries, perhaps millennia.) It seems there is no end in sight to the bloodshed.

You have to realize that there are real human beings - Arab and Israeli - that have no dog in this fight and still they or their loved ones die in the most ghastly of ways. You want peace? You’re gonna have to push back against the evil forces that set these events in motion. You can start with the Islamist militants in charge of Hamas and work from there.

And I’d watch it if I were you commenting here on indifference about the Middle East, and Israel in particular. You might piss someone off.

I don’t know how to ever remove the perception that the Palestinian leadership is not still stealing/misappropriating funds massively. the perceived black hole makes ant assertion sound far more reasonable than it deserves.

Those billions in Yassser Arafats accounts when that got looked at is all the proof they need.

It could be true, which makes it persuasive, but it’s not sound critical thinking:

Informal fallacy: Formal deductive fallacies and informal fallacies

Inductive fallacies are not formal in this sense. Their merit is judged in terms of rational persuasiveness, inductive strength or methodology (for example, statistical inference). For instance, the fallacy of hasty generalization, can be roughly stated as an invalid syllogism:

• A is an X
• A is also a Y
• Therefore, all Xs are also Ys

While never a valid deduction, if such an inference can be made on statistical grounds, it may nonetheless be convincing. […]

If any situation is in dire need of rational thought, it’s this one.

Burkes hit back after governor attacks Trek in TV ad

[…]

“Yesterday, Scott Walker launched an outrageous ad full of misleading claims about Trek Bicycle,” the email reads. “Let’s set the record straight … Fact: Almost 1,000 people in Wisconsin work at Trek, a successful company that I helped build. Fact: Trek makes more bikes in the US than anyone else. Fact: Walker’s WEDC approved millions in tax breaks for companies that relocated jobs overseas. Fact: Wisconsin is dead last in the Midwest in job growth.

“We need more Wisconsin success stories like Trek. Instead, Walker is choosing to attack a great Wisconsin business - a business that his flagship jobs agency has had as its poster child up until very recently. It is truly the height of hypocrisy.”

[…]

John Burke told the Journal Sentinel that Walker should pull the ad.

“As a point of principle, the ad’s wrong,” John Burke said. “Mary had nothing to do with sourcing decisions at Trek. Those decisions were made by my father and myself.”

Just in case anyone doesn’t fully appreciate how terrifying bombardments can be, here’s a video clip posted by +972 Magazine early this morning.

It shows no wounded or “telegenically dead Palestinians”, but it does show 4 minutes of terrified Palestinian adults & children trying to escape their eastern Gaza City neighborhood during a bombardment earlier this week. It was taken by a Palestinian media outlet, so it’s sure to be dismissed by some.

As someone who’s never been exposed to such things first hand, it was a real eye-opener for me. I can’t even begin to imagine what the fear is like on the ground, in real life, with your children & other loved ones in harm’s way.

Doesn’t matter what Ted Cruz thinks on this issue. To me, or to pretty much anyone under 35 years of age. I would wager I’m younger than most on this board, and I would like to let everyone know how little most young Americans care about Gaza or Israel or Hamas or the IDF. I want peace, I don’t want ideologues killing each other. That’s about how much I care. To be honest the entire Middle East is becoming more meaningless by the day to young people in America. We’re too preoccupied with scraping by on our meager fucking wages and no benefits to give two shits about people that have been killing each other for decades. I know thats harsh, but I am not the only young American who feels this way. We are disillusioned with the previous generation, and this is yet another baby boomer, TV generation issue that most young Americans don’t really care about. Excuse me while I dig through the couch for rent money.

Sorry. But I had to down ding you. Disconnecting from the world just because it’s the last generations problem doesn’t cut it. And in doing so, you do yourself and others of your generation a disservice. Because if you refuse to learn from our (and previous generations) mistakes, you are bound to make them yourself.

As for your comment about scraping by, guess what, a large number of us “boomers” are also just scraping by. There’s not a day that goes by that the wife and I don’t worry about something breaking down, that has to be fixed and wondering were the hell we are going to get the money to pay for it.

IAF targets Wafa hospital after attacks committed from within
Liveleak Video
The video shows the attacks and the multiple calls from the Israelis to make sure patients still aren’t in the hospital. In the history of warfare I can’t think of more caution before attacking civilian buildings being used for military attacks. It is difficult and the Israelis don’t always get it right but the Israelis put a lot of effort and spend a lot of money on technology to avoid civilian casualties.

Everyone’s children are dying. Those soldiers had mothers too. I can’t look at them without thinking of my own son. Is an Israeli mother’s grief greater than a Palestinian mother’s, or vice versa? I think not. When will it end? How much more blood, how much more psychological damage, how many more lives will be lost before everyone stops & says, “OMG, what are we doing to each other? What about the damage to economies & infrastructures? How many billions have been wasted on this fight so far? Billions that could have made the lives of both Israelis & Palestinians better?

Isn’t it amazing that Republicans are so expert on military matters when nearly none of them have served - let alone served with distinction. They are reliant on others to provide them with a pair of balls, no wonder they are individually and collectively such a mess.

166 Skip Intro  Jul 23, 2014 3:48:23pm
The owner of a comic book store in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, awoke Wednesday morning to find the Republican Senate candidate and former state senator’s campaign bus parked across five spaces. But it wasn’t just any Wednesday; it was Batman Day, a holy DC Comics holiday commemorating the caped crusader’s 75th birthday.

So Barry Herring, the owner of Southern Fried Comics, took a photo and posted it to Twitter to express his displeasure.

The store marked the day by hosting an event for kids featuring Batman masks, a drawing contest and cake. Herring said he found the bus “frustrating” on such a busy day.

Hey man, lighten up. It was just kids, not fetuses. You ought to know by now the GOP doesn’t give a flying fuck about them.

Again, it is a Higher Truth that Obama hates Real American Men nearly as much as he hates America, which is why he promotes under-qualified women and minorities to positions of authority, to undermine the masculine, virile foundations of our society.

Occupied Palestinian Territory: Gaza Emergency
Situation Report (as of 22 July 2014, 1500 hrs)

This report is produced by OCHA oPt in collaboration with humanitarian partners. It covers the period from 21 July (1500 hrs) to 22 July (1500 hrs). The next report will be issued on 23 July.

Cabinet mulls expanded Gaza op as IDF toll reaches 32; FAA extends ban on Israel flights

AFAIK there have also been 2 civilian deaths in Israel, one being due to shelling by Hamas and the other being due to some other cause (maybe heart attack). Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on the numbers.

There was an informal journalistic investigation into the least painful way to execute a person. When it was suggested to a GOP lawmaker that they use that method, he said he wants them to go through pain. I suspect that’s a common emotion among the retributionists.
