One More Problem With That 1976 Holocaust Denial Edition of Reason

Namely, an ad for a neo-Nazi book.
Wingnuts • Views: 31,989

Enough has been written on the “who is who in Holocaust denial” edition of the Reason magazine:

Awful: Reason Magazine’s 1976 Holocaust Denial “Special Issue”
Reason Magazine Addresses That 1976 “Holocaust Denial Edition”

What follows is just a little footnote to that story.

On p.53 of that issue we see an ad for “The Veritas Reading Club”, a subsidiary of Devin-Adair Publishing Company. An assortment of various crackpot books is presented (Darwin was wrong! The Czar and his family weren’t executed! Coming race war in South Africa! etc.). One of the books on the list is Wilmot Robertson’s (John Humphrey Ireland’s pseudonym) The Dispossessed Majority.

Here’s a copy of the 1996 edition:
archive.org

On page 161 we learn that the author is a hardcore Holocaust denier.
On page 191 he faults Jews for everything, from communism to integration.
On page 234 he recommends deporting all blacks to Africa.

Lest you think that the earlier editions were somehow more moderate, one researcher described the 1972 edition of this book as “the new bible for the American racist right”.

David Duke called it “the most important book since the Second World War”.

Robertson-Ireland also published the infamous neo-Nazi magazine Instauration, which constituted regular “updates” to the book:

For those who approve of eugenics, historical revisionism, and discussions of the racial makeup of populations, the writing of Instauration was very pleasing. But many would characterize the publication as promoting racism and Holocaust denial. Instauration also published numerous articles arguing that Christianity was a contrived religion. [wiki]

All the issues of the magazine are available online, so it’s easy to verify that they are full of the most vulgar white supremacist and antisemitic tripe.

As you read through that 1976 issue, the amazing thing is how little the libertarian movement has really changed. They’ve gotten slicker and better at hiding the craziness, but the same racist, anti-science and extreme right wing themes are still being repeated by libertarians today.

Their total integration into today’s republican party should scare everyone.

I’m sorry, is there supposed to be a difference between Holocaust denial and Revisionist bullshit? Because there isn’t, just so you know. Douchecanoe.

He obviously believed Nick Gillespie’s weak defense.

The term is tainted beyond repair, but there used to be a distinction (like, not denying the Holocaust, but, say, finding fault with the reasons Allies got involved in the war, this kind of stuff).

I suppose you, of all people, would know.

It is notable though that the daddy of the WWII Revisionism (in that non-HD sense), Harry Elmer Barnes, became a denier late in his life.

Nice catch. I sort of glossed over the ads, pretty much because they were so similar to the modern crank catalog (so much goldbuggery!) and outright “TEH JOOZ” is harder to find.

I refuse to click on any link described as an addictive game.

For not having a tripod along, this didn’t come out too badly.

I return, at least until the cats make their displeasure at our absence known.

The United States released a series of satellite images Sunday that appear to support its claims that Russian forces have fired across the border into Ukraine to support rebels there, suggesting a new level of direct Russian involvement in the conflict.

The images show artillery and rocket-blast signatures inside Russia and craters formed by the artillery strikes in Ukraine.

Washington has accused Russia of arming, training and financing separatists in Ukraine.

The images were provided by a senior intelligence official who asked not to be named in order to discuss intelligence issues. The images were also distributed by State Department officials.

That is great, but they really should have released the MH17-related images first (which they still haven’t done AFAIK).

re: #16 Islamo-Masonic Conspirator

That is great, but they really should have released the MH17-related images (which they still haven’t done AFAIK).

You’re making one huge assumption, that that the term image in that context means it’s at all readily understandable by laymen. The MH17 shootdown was a spontaneous event, US satellites may well have been operating in an automated mode that detected the IR and EM signatures from the launch, tracking and seeker radars, explosion and crash without producing or saving nice, photogenic raw image results that the average person can look at and analyze intelligently. These systems are very sensitive, always on and designed to give early warning of missile launches. They aren’t necessarily designed to always stream, upload and save a crap-ton of video to Air Force servers if there’s no active mission or interest in the particular area underground. Overall bandwidth is finite, the US isn’t running constant DVR on every early warning bird up there.

What’s important isn’t the US showing this data to the press, it’s how NATO allies react to the data which is almost certain to be shared with them. Because those countries lost the most people (especially the Netherlands) and those countries (again, especially the Netherlands) also have a long established trade history with Russia and have been the most reluctant to impose sanctions. They have the greatest incentive to get to the right answer. Also, most critically, those governments are also the ones who can be trusted not to betray the extent of US capabilities, and also have the military analytical expertise necessary to properly understand what the data says.
