Glenn Beck: Obama Invites Impeachment Threats Because “The Black Thing Is Over”

“The birther thing is over” too
Wingnuts • Views: 26,404

YouTube

Today on his radio show, Glenn Beck showed off those powerful reasoning faculties for which he’s famous, with a theory that President Obama is actually inviting all this crazy talk about impeachment in order to pass immigration reform. How does impeachment talk help pass immigration reform? He leaves that as a thought exercise for you, dear viewer.

But Beck does articulate a clear reason why Obama is now moving on to the impeachment thing — because “the birther thing is over, and the black thing is over.”

Yes, the raving freakazoid nut sandwich comes through again.

Beck, like all of his ilk, has perfected the art of making literally anything say what he wants it to say. No word salad is too insane, no non sequitur too egregious. Everything is fodder and nothing is wrong, so long as it furthers the party line.

re: #19 Killgore Trout

That’s just wrong. He’s actually more influential than ever, with The Blaze and with his TV/radio show. The show has more than 300,000 subscriptions and made him more than $40 million in 2012, and it’s now carried on the Dish Network.

So, yeah, there are still a LOT of people being influenced by him.

The actual problem for the wingnuts is that Woman rules, not Man, when it comes to reproduction. That’s the basis of all the butthurt over contraception and abortion. They’d much prefer to have the old forced-and-random terms than family planning.

re: #27 Gus

Here’s my take. The Glasses trend started in the mid to late 90’s as a counter culture/alternative trend. From there, it grew significantly from around 2000-2010.

The right-wing loves to co-opt pop culture to appear to be ‘hip’. They do it with music all the time. Born in the USA was played over the PA when AfP did their pro Walker dance across the stage in Madison. Irony is dead with this crowd.

Hell, I’d put down cash that over half of the right-wing tools don’t even need glasses. It’s a grift.

Back to grilling out.

I’m going to have to make an appointment with the groomer at the vet’s office. It’s really more than I can deal with. It’s like he is just one huge walking matt. He let me cut off a 3x1-inch section on Saturday night, but it didn’t even make a dent.

Question for the photographers. Currently mainly using a Nikon D3200 with the standard 18-55mm kit lens. Getting good results, but considering going after a telephoto zoom lens (18-200mm or possibly the 18-300mm) for use in getting detail in distance shots, and probably also necessary for better wildlife shots (birds especially).

So I’m fishing for opinions whether adding another lens is going to be worthwhile unto itself, or at that point I should work more at proficiency with the current kit.

Bolinas Residents Answer Call to Arms, Join Border Militias …? - Pacific Sun: Local News

“We have independent units from the Bolinas Border Patrol and the Central Valley Citizens militia joining forces with independent citizens militia units of Texas to defend our southern border in Texas,” boasted Robinson. Robinson, who founded the Free Republic internet forum in 1997, and has become a Tea Party muckraker of sorts, might seem a strange bedfellow to be linked with the BBP.

The Bolinas Border Patrol, of course, is the tongue-in-cheek name of the residents who tear down the road signs leading to Bolinas, in a longstanding custom of warding off outsiders from the eccentrically self-aware West Marin town.

“The invasion is happening now,” Robinson added. “Action must be taken NOW!!”

It was unclear at press time whether Robinson intended to return the favor, and join forces with his Bolinas compatriots in next year’s Fourth of July tug-of-war against the invaders from Stinson Beach.

LOL!

FWIW…. I’m not a huge fan of the super-zooms. There are some compromises made that usually end up with really poor performance at some lengths / apertures. I usually use dpreview.com to get a good idea. I’d recommend going with something like 70-210 or so. That works out to about a 300mm when you factor in crop factor. I’ve taken a seminar on wildlife photography from the photographer emeritus of the St. Louis zoo, and he said that generally if you can’t get it with a 200, you can’t really get it at all.

That said, I do carry a 15-85 (5.6 to 1 Ratio) but there is a reason that most of your top-shelf glass zooms are a 3:1 ratio). My own preference when I’ve been in the position to put together a lens kit is to have some overlap between lenses, not always possible, but nice.

Also, there’s a law of diminishing returns on focal length. Generally in the real world anything over 200mm is going to produce atmospheric effects, haze and mirage distortions that defeat whatever inherent crispness might be in the shot. Creative photographers find ways to get closer to the subject.

Pro photographers are mostly seen using those huge 400 / 600 / 800 mm artillery pieces because Nikon and Cannon pay them to be seen with them.

I’m thinking of this partially due to looking at some shots of birds and other wildlife where circumstances limited how close I could get and some of the composition as well. Not going for quick, but curious whether a telephoto lens will get me better resolution when I end up having to take the photo from range.

Per not having a tripod available, a lot of my current photos are while taking extended walks and not being willing to haul a tripod with me.

Also looking a bit at macro lens, but I am getting the impression that for most uses the standard lens on macro setting and photo editing (mainly cropping) does a fairly good job.

It’s possible down the road I’ll end up with a set of three lenses (12-24mm, 18-70mm, and 70-200mm I think is the breakdown for the specifics that I’m eyeing) but that’s also an investment that I’m not ready to make.

I think that’s why I’ve held off so far. With the 18-55 I get decent performance. But also get photos where I’d like better at the extremes - thus the consideration of getting a 55-200 or 55-300. Though it then complicates things with hauling an extra lens around.

A dedicated macro lens would be an out-and-out luxury I think. I do OK with the current lens, and don’t think the output would improve that much to be worth another lens for the lower range at this time.

I decided when I got my camera that it was better to spend a little bit more at the outset and get one decent quality lens that covered most of the range that I would use it in. There’s definitely some wildlife shots where I wish it would zoom in farther, and some landscape stuff where I wish the wide performance was better, but overall, I’ve been really happy with it.

There’s one or two spots where I’d consider getting a prime (if the Sad Kitteh thing continues, a good fast prime for the right range on that would be pretty awesome) but for the flexibility when travelling I really like my zoom.

Well, you can be a ‘good Jew’ while being an atheist in terms of following the various rules and commandments and the rest. But that’s a very narrow hair to split.

I see Sam Harris as very similar to the right wing think tank “fellows” who are very good at rationalizing their prejudices, and making you believe they’re not prejudiced at all but simply being rational and analytical.

He’s also similar to Robert Spencer in that respect, but much more polished. I actually agree with his arguments for atheism, for the most part, but there’s something about him that sets off my Bigot radar.

Pakistan mob kills woman, girls, over ‘blasphemous’ Facebook post

A Pakistani mob killed a woman member of a religious sect and two of her granddaughters after a sect member was accused of posting blasphemous material on Facebook, police said Monday, the latest instance of growing violence against minorities.

The dead, including a seven-year-old girl and her baby sister, were Ahmadis, who consider themselves Muslim but believe in a prophet after Mohammed. A 1984 Pakistani law declared them non-Muslims and many Pakistanis consider them heretics…

…Accusations of blasphemy are rocketing in Pakistan, from one in 2011 to at least 68 last year, according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan. About 100 people have been accused of blasphemy this year.

Human rights workers say the accusations are increasingly used to settle personal vendettas or to grab the property of the accused.

So some other member of the Ahmadi sect is accused of posting something blasphemous on Facebook and the angry mob kills a 60 year old grandmother and a pair of little girls over it? They also looted and burned the homes of other Ahamadi sect members while they were at it. Damn. :(

At this early point-the channel launched Sunday and began collecting paid subscriptions at startup-much of SPC’s front-page offerings are repurposed and available in some form free elsewhere.

There’s the seven-minute video calling for President Obama’s impeachment from earlier in the month; various speeches, like her July 19 talk to the Western Conservative Summit, that are on YouTube; reproductions of conservative meme images; a link to her daughter Bristol’s blog at the religious site patheos.com. There’s a national debt counter and a countdown clock to the end of the Obama administration. Getting a place of prominence is “Sally’s Word of the Day,” a feature “brought to you by my Scrabble-obsessed Mom and her friends.” (The inaugural word: “Rectitude”-“the quality of being honest and morally correct”-which reproduces the Merriam-Webster definition verbatim.)

But wait! There’s more! The marquee original content thus far is a collection of short videos in which-as she’s been doing via Facebook-Palin weighs in on current events hitting longtime talking points. The trouble in Ukraine, for instance, is evidence that we need to “unlock” our natural energy resources, or Drill, Baby, Drill. Another publicizes her book from last year re-fighting the “war on Christmas.” In others, she answers questions from supporters, such as, “How many things can you name that Obama has failed at?”

My surprise, etc.

Tired, so I’m out for the night. Maybe I’ll paint some Catachans Imperial Guard for a bit.

On an aside…I got about halfway through “300: Rise of an Empire”.

What a crock of dingo dung.

At least they got the name of Greek Admiral Themistocles right. Everything else is fiction. The Greek ships were heavier and slower then the Persian ships. The movie gets it backwards. The Persians used paid professional rowers like the Greeks..not slaves. Because of the Persian numbers and superior speed of their ships, Themistocles anchored his battleline at Salamis with one flank against the mainland and the other against an island, making it impossible for the Persians to use their advantages and forcing them to attack the Greeks head on with only part of their fleet. They were soundly thrashed…but not anything like the movie.

This is one case where the history is better than the fiction. meh.

Sorry if I’m being dense, but you kinda lost me there. What ratio are you talking about—do you mean magnification ratio like when you’re talking about macro/close-up photography or do you mean something else? oh sorry. What I meant was the ratio between the longest and shortest focal lengths. For example a 70-210 zoom would be a 3:1 (210/70 = 3) and a 18-55 would be about 3.2:1 and something like a superzoom 18-300 would be a 16.6:1 ratio. The bigger the ratio, the more likely that it’s going to suffer at some point in the range. Little “point and shoot” cameras can do it because they just have a single wide range lens, and there is a lot of internal processing to fix the image. With my 15-85 Canon, I apply a lens correction factor in Lightroom and that takes care of 99% of it.

Does that help?

re: #171 Feline Fearless Leader

I think that’s why I’ve held off so far. With the 18-55 I get decent performance. But also get photos where I’d like better at the extremes - thus the consideration of getting a 55-200 or 55-300. Though it then complicates things with hauling an extra lens around.

A dedicated macro lens would be an out-and-out luxury I think. I do OK with the current lens, and don’t think the output would improve that much to be worth another lens for the lower range at this time.

I have a 55-200 Canon and I like it okay, but I wish it was a bit faster—hard to get decent shots in low light/indoors without a flash. I’ve found that I mostly prefer my 40mm pancake as a walking around lens.

I’ve spent a shitload on lenses in the past 8 months because I didn’t really know what I wanted or how I would use them. If I could start over I’d still choose my 40mm, but I’d have gone for a better quality zoom than the default 18-55 kit lens that came with my T3i. I still would’ve bought the macro just because I think they’re way cool (even though the 100mm I got is heavy). What else? I’d have saved up for an L-series.. prolly the 70-200.

Officially now, Burning Man has jumped the shark.

Bummer.

I’ve had a few friends trying to get me to go for a few years now. Still no desire to do it, though I’ll give in sooner rather than later. They all tell me that once I go I’m gonna go every year thereafter. Which scares me.

When I went from alpine to telemark skiing, before I even tried telemark all the tele skiers that were trying to talk me into freeing my heel said “Once you go tele, you’ll never go back to alpine.”

They were right. And now I’m teleskiguy on the internet.

278 CuriousLurker  Jul 28, 2014 7:40:56pm

re: #271 RealityBasedSteve

RBS

Ohhhhhh, okay. Yes, it helps, thanks. ;-)

Way OT, but my young son just pitched a 7 inning complete game shutout in a very important game. I’m not gonna post the number of K’s but it was significantly high.

The best part is he texted me snark before I had a chance to congratulate him(I’m away from the action working and holding down the fort).

For me, that’s one heck of a positive sign. Goodnight lizards.

BOO HOO

The topless counter-protestors carried signs that read, “You realize that everyone thinks you’re overcompensating for your teeny tiny ‘gun’ right?” and “Boobs for peace.” The women confronted the open carry advocates and said that as long as they openly carried their weapons, the counter-protestors would bare their breasts.

One of the open carry advocates, Tom Jefferson, claimed that counter-protestors harassed them. “They followed us into a small coffee shop and called us the Aryan Brotherhood,” he said. “They continually used terms like white pride and white power.”

No it’s not… if the whole point of their incursion is to collapse tunnels, it won’t be safe to be above the collapsing bits.

They aren’t doing it for a buffer zone for defense against rockets, it won’t make much difference in the range. And range is increasing.

For defense against tunnels? They could come up with a way to detect them, from their own side of the border, that doesn’t require turning a massive amount of Gaza into no-man’s land. How many Palestinian lives are being disrupted, as they get thrown out of their homes and livelihoods?

If Gohmert or Steve King suggested turning a vast strip of Mexico across the border into a no-man’s land as an anti-immigration measure, what would you call that?

Sorry, but I’m not going to shy away from using the correct word just because Israel is doing it. They don’t get a pass.

Not “defense against tunnels” — they’re going to COLLAPSE THE TUNNELS. Which means everything above the tunnels (and I doubt they have thorough detailed maps yet of exactly where) is going to be fucked.

Any buildings that are destroyed in these collapses (and there will undoubtedly be many)… responsibility for that falls on the people who built the tunnels in the first place.

This sad affair is really a golden opportunity to Mahmoud Abbas to step up and put the moderate wing of the Palestinians in the driver’s seat, but he’ll have to risk his life to do it. Since the PA has mostly been on the sidelines, save for some tepid support for hamas, his hands are relatively clean at the moment. He needs to step up and speak in measured but forceful tones to both sides. To the Israelis he needs to say that it’s time to move forward and offer SOMETHING to the Israelis. To the people of Gaza he needs to say that they deserve better than what hamas has burdened them with. The incitement in PA schools and TV has to stop in order to prepare the people for co-existence. Has he learned nothing from the horrifying slaughter in Syria? The brutality there in just over 3 years far exceeds what has gone on between the Israelis and Palestinians in the last 60. If he is willing to “pull a Sadat,” which means offering peace and MEANING it, he might lose his life, but he may go down in history as a true man of peace. He is approaching 80 and his time is running out. I really think if he is serious and gives it a try, Egypt and Saudi Arabia will be solid partners and a new normal could start to take hold. One thing Abbas has in common with Israel and Egypt is his annoyance with John Kerry’s outreach to Qatar and Turkey. If they can unite in peace, they’ll get plenty of help from the US and others.

306 GlutenFreeJesus  Jul 28, 2014 8:26:41pm

Been watching the cam from Gaza. I really don’t know what to think of this whole situation other than it’s a ridiculous mess. Both sides are screwing up and innocent civilians are caught in the middle as always. Staring at a building that’s been blown to bits not far at all from the broadcast location. I must have missed it. But I did see a strike on a highrise a few hours ago during the night time there. I didn’t see any rockets launched from that location or anything and I had been watching for at least an hour. That’s all I will say about that.
