Rep. Louie Gohmert Says: Migrant Kids Are Lying About Fleeing Violence; They Actually Want to Rape Our Women

Hateful xenophobia rampant
Wingnuts • Views: 37,797

Yes, the looniest member of Congress is at it again, spreading hateful xenophobia and freakish conspiracy theories to the right wing base. Last week on a conference call with the “National Emergency Coalition” (a right wing group dedicated to spreading fear about migrant children, led by theocratic nutcase E.W. Jackson), Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) announced that the children coming across the border are not really fleeing violence in their home countries — they’ve been “coached” to say this.

According to Rep. Gohmert, these children are actually coming to America because they want to murder us and rape our women. Yes, really; that’s exactly what he said.

This is down right evil even for someone like Gohmert. Yes, Louie, they’re lying about fleeing violence so they can come here and rape our women. Yeah, you don’t sound like a klansman at all with that rhetoric. Really Louie just leave Washington forever. Our country deserves better than to have xenophobic pigs like you in our legislature.

Louie is in serious competition with Steve King for the most Klan-flavored derp of the day:

Steve King: Migrants Pop Birth Control Before Going Down ‘Rape Path’ To U.S.

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said Wednesday that immigrant families were giving their daughters birth control pills before they departed on the arduous “rape path” to the U.S. border.

“A very high percentage of girls are given birth control pills before [their families] send them on their journey up the train of death on ‘The Beast’ to get to the river, and then to pay a coyote to give them a ride across, because the families expect the girl to be raped on the way,” King told CNN’s Chris Cuomo in an interview on “New Day.”

Gotta love that GOP Latino outreach.

Well, this is why the children are turning themselves in to border officials, so they can go rape American women. They, the children that is, walked all the way up from Latin America, across deserts, gangs and other turmoil, just to get to the USA, get detained in box cars, just for the ability to go raping and pillaging, all the while Obama’s taken all are gunz away.

These kids are lying about fleeing violence?

So, then the news reports about violence, or the murder rates in places like Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and other Latin America countries is just made up?

Official murder rates are (per 100,000)

Honduras 90.4
Venezuela 53.7
Belize 44.7
El Salvador 41.2
Guatemala 39.9

The US checks in at 4.8.

To Gohmert, it’s all made up. Just like evolution. Or global warming. And everything else the GOP and Gohmert specifically opposes. So yeah, it’s all just made up in his deluded worldview.

Speaking of Ebola:

North Carolina hospital isolates wing for patient who had visited ‘high-risk’ country

Portions of a North Carolina hospital were shut down while doctors tested a patient for communicable disease.

One corridor was closed Wednesday morning at Charlotte’s Carolinas Medical Center, with a security guard posted outside to prevent entry, reported WSOC-TV.

Hospital officials initially offered little information about the situation, but they issued a statement shortly after noon to explain that a patient had arrived at the emergency room late Tuesday evening after “visiting a country known for high risk of infectious diseases.”

The hospital did not specify which country or disease specifically triggered the unusual level of caution but said “all appropriate infection control measures” were taken to protect the public.

“Would have”? Gohmert’s ideological ancestors did exactly that, screaming that those fleeing from Europe were just looking to move here because their home countries were generally economic basketcases in the lead-up to WWII. They refused to believe that the oppression against Jews was so horrible that so many people would want to flee.

53 wrenchwench  Jul 30, 2014 11:27:03am

Border Patrol agents have entirely too much power to determine the fate of immigrants. What Gohmert says in the first recording is outrageous.

“Texas and the United States is [sic] being invaded and we’re in danger,” Gohmert said, before alleging that most of the unaccompanied minors are lying when they tell border patrol agents that they are escaping gang violence in Central America and have been coached to make such claims. Gohmert said minors end up telling officers that “we were told to say that we were fleeing gang violence.” - See more at: rightwingwatch.org

First of all, that the border patrol agent is Hispanic [mentioned by Gohmert on the tape] should be irrelevant. All agents assigned to the southern border are supposed to be able to speak Spanish. Also, they are not supposed to make refugee determinations. A judge is supposed to do that. Under the law, an immigrant can ask for ‘voluntary return’ (immediate deportation without a hearing) and I fear way too many people are being TOLD to ask for this, and likely lied to as part of the persuasion. And congress is trying to strip the right to a hearing from all refugees.

The law that allows each claimant of asylum a hearing was passed with the intent of reducing human trafficking. Those who vote to take that right away should be accused of promoting human trafficking of children.

54 Kragar  Jul 30, 2014 11:27:42am

No, the other one:

Hood, in an interview with The Clarion Ledger on Wednesday, said his office had already talked to the man, Stevie Fielder, who “admitted he got paid $2,000 to lie.”

“We haven’t seen the source of the funds yet and I don’t know if that blogger actually has them but we’ll find out someday I suppose,” Hood said.

Hood said he didn’t know his name. When the Clarion-Ledger asked if he was referring to Johnson, Hood said he thought that was him.

wsoctv.com - a portion of the ER wing has been reopened this morning. Risk of transmission is low, and the patient was expected to be sent home.

In a related note, there are 35 countries that are just one flight away from the region affected by the Ebola outbreak. Three US airports currently have direct flights to the region, JFK, HOU, and ATL.

But with the incubation period being what it is, it is possible that someone who had been exposed could get elsewhere before becoming symptomatic.

The NC hospital is acting out of an abundance of caution. It apparently looks like it is some other ailment.

VA Gov’s defense in corruption case? We’re too screwed up to be able to conspire to do anything alleged by prosecutors.

Former Gov. Bob McDonnell of Virginia and his wife, Maureen, on trial for conspiring to use his office for personal enrichment, outlined an unexpected defense on Tuesday: Their marriage was so broken that they did not communicate enough to conspire about anything.

In opening arguments in the couple’s corruption trial in federal court here, their lawyers made clear that they planned to rely on the sordid details of their unhappy union as the basis of their legal defense. It was the first time the McDonnells’ version of events had been heard in a widely publicized case that for months has been characterized by the lengthy indictment against them, which charges the couple with accepting more than $165,000 in cash and luxury gifts from a Virginia businessman.

Speaking of Christie, it looks like he’s about to do something on the positive side of the ledger. He’s pushing for bail reform, which needs legislative action so that it can get on the ballot in November since it requires amending the state constitution. The reform is sorely needed - both as a means to reduce the cost to the state for incarcerating those who aren’t able to make bail, and to make it easier for those arrested to make bail.

Of course, he’s doing that amid calls to gut the pension system (he’s already gone back on his prior deal to fully fund the pension system), and there’s the bridgegate and Port Authority morass.

The really dangerous thing about reps like Gohmer or his alter-ego, Joe Barton, is that they are nowhere near as stupid as they seem. They know perfectly well that they are actors on the world stage and that they are playing the buffoon. If they didn’t know, their banker and oil-patch bosses would fill them in. They don’t care, they are not in it to improve the world or even the United States. Their primary interest is to enrich themselves and the ruthless, largely hereditary, privileged classes they represent. They are sacrificing not just their dignity, but every shred of human decency, to pander to a base that is as stupid as its seems, that is maintained in that state by religious propaganda and social conformity, and whose exploitation and subordination serves only the privileged.

Short of a unilateral cease-fire, Israel needs to stop shelling and/or bombing within densely populated civilian areas. Another option being to use ground troops and take the fight directly to Hamas. Otherwise, this is unsustainable.

Chocolate mint pie.

I’m not in to fruit pies. It’s a texture thing… The Mrs is lucky that I’m now eating strawberries (home grown) and blueberries- (particularly when picked from Phillips Farm in NJ). But she’s not a big pie person either. Again, it’s a texture thing. Don’t know why.

In light of recent activities on the political scene in the US and globally, would you think it would be a good idea to implement [nazi][/nazi] tags which use a Fraktur font?

I know of a free one at unifraktur.sourceforge.net

The problem with specialty fonts is that they are not installed on everyone’s system, then you have to provide the font, tell people to download, install it, etc. That’s why Charles chose “comic sans” for the Wingnut/Dudebro tags because everyone has these fonts by default.

Atlantic Beach Pie

There are days for cake, and days for ice cream and cookies. But every now and then, you crave a different kind of finish to a satisfying meal. Enter Atlantic Beach Pie, a salty and citrusy staple of the North Carolina coast.

Katie Workman is the author of The Mom 100 Cookbook: 100 Recipes Every Mom Needs in Her Back Pocket. She says the Atlantic Beach Pie from Crook’s Corner restaurant in Chapel Hill, N.C., is the best pie she’s ever had. She shared a recipe for the dish for All Things Considered’s Found Recipe series.

183 calochortus  Jul 30, 2014 12:24:46pm

“(Insert reviled group here) are coming to rape our wimmins” must have a deep resonance with men.
As a woman, the possibility of being raped is always kind of there in the back of one’s mind, but I have never worried that some group is going to make a project of it.

This seems to be more closely connected to the concept of war in which the winning side gets to rape and pillage and the losers are suitably humiliated.
Raping the women suitably humiliates the men somehow rather than being a specific crime against women and girls.

Well, Texas Conservatives, say good bye to the Manned Spacecraft Center (your probably think it’s all fake anyway), as well as all the military bases that contribute billions a year to your economy. Lockheed-Martin and all the defense contractors will pack up and move to Oklahoma. The Border Patrol and DEA will decamp en masse. You will still have the National Guard, its ranks depleted by desertion to the Okies, but Uncle Sam will no longer buy their equipment or write their paychecks. The education system, especially higher education, will collapse overnight, replaced by religious superstition mills and a few pricey institutions for the elite. You might consider that highly desirable but there is a definite consequence that will leave you speechless with horror: Your football teams will no longer be competitive, either because the institutions do not meet NCAA standards or because you have lost a big part of your recruiting base.

I’m seeing reports today that Israeli soldiers were killed in a booby trapped UN clinic. Ground troops carry a lot of risk to Israeli soldiers. Bombing valid military targets integrated with civilian infrastructure cause lots of civilian casualties. Urban warfare has always been messy but you’re right that this current situation isn’t sustainable. However I’m not seeing a lot of realistic alternatives that allow the Israelis to address their security needs. I suppose a long series of assassinations might be a possibility but would certainly cause a lot of concerns about international law. I’m not seeing any good alternatives.

I’m seeing reports today that Israeli soldiers were killed in a booby trapped UN clinic.

Can you cite these reports, please? Saying “I’m seeing reports” is completely useless, especially coming from someone who is terrible at representing the truth accurately.

What has the death toll in Israel been over the past year from Hamas attacks?

The current situation is causing more Israeli deaths than doing nothing was.

I suppose a long series of assassinations might be a possibility but would certainly cause a lot of concerns about international law. I’m not seeing any good alternatives.

Start with a ceasefire, which even Hamas has shown they can respect. Stop electing people who say the 2-state solution is impossible, call for elections among the Palestinians and hope to hell Hamas doesn’t win again, then negotiate with whoever gets elected.

And please note this is just ‘what could Israel do’. It is not attaching blame to Israel, or saying if Israel did these things everything would be perfect.

But what Israel is doing now could not be more counterproductive to a goal of long-term peace and security for Israel.

mix:

1/4 cup shelled pistachios

dump into:

chill for an hour, crumble ritz crackers over the top, and you got a nice mildly sweet, slightly salty pie.

I told someone last week that this was going to happen. We’re pressed for desks to sit at here, and with a decision being made regarding a project there is a 1/4 of open cubicle space upstairs. That IT was going to be selected for the initial exile is no surprise, we’re a small presence (10 employees and 3 contractors) and our managerial reporting chain is all at other locations.

On the plus size the new floor has a better window view, we’ll have a small kitchenette with fridge and coffee maker to ourselves, and being a bit off the beaten path isn’t so bad.

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this but Gohmert pulled a bait and switch by initially talking about the children and then went on about illegal immigrants in general. He also played the false dilemma card by claiming the immigrants can’t be fleeing gang violence because the gangs are the ones transporting them to and across the border.

Gohmert, you tool, it can and is both.

He also played games with the Texas stats by not including years previous to Obama. Typical cherry picking.

Crime, including rapes have gone down in Texas since 2008 with a little bump up in 2009.
