The Dumbest Man on the Internet Should Be Embarrassed by This, but He Won’t Be

It’s always hilarious when the Dumbest Man on the Internet, Jim Hoft, pretends he understands what’s going on the real world. In today’s example of Hoft’s monumental idiocy, this morning he posted one of his usual ridiculous anti-Obama rants, titled: Horror! Watch This Video and Tell Me Barack Obama Is Not Pure Evil | the Gateway Pundit.

HORROR! PURE EVIL! He’s standing by and watching as the Yazidi people are stranded! Obama is doing nothing! He’s EVIL! Evil, I tell you.

Then tonight, when President Obama announced humanitarian airdrops and limited airstrikes against ISIS, this was Jim Hoft’s response:

Yes, that’s right, folks; Hoft was so concerned about the fate of the stranded Yazidi people that he couldn’t even be bothered to spell their name correctly, and called them “Zahidis.” Which is a type of dried dates.

Here’s a screenshot, in case he’s embarrassed enough to delete that moronic tweet, although he probably won’t be, because he’s never embarrassed by his own idiocy, and the knuckle-draggers who read his blog don’t care either.

Jim Hoft is the kind of man who would refuse to give Obama credit if he managed to cure cancer. Hoft would claim that he only did it to look good. Hoft is just a pathetic asshole who knows where his bread is buttered and that’s through anti-Obama fauxrages.

2 Ryan King  Aug 7, 2014 7:38:03pm

How could one be embarrassed when Obama is PURE EVIL?

3 HappyWarrior  Aug 7, 2014 7:39:44pm

You know I would never even use the words “pure evil” for right wing American politicians I despise. It says a lot about Hoft and his readership that Hoft is in effect likening Obama to some of the worst people in history with that pharse.

So, children slowly dying of thirst isn’t a dramatic enough photo for you?

Jim Holt is an idiot because he’s outraged over genocide against Christians?

Obama is a hero because, after thousands of deaths of innocent people, he finally, begrudgingly, got around to ordering an one-time air strike? Wadda guy!

BTW, who’s going to play Charles Johnson in Robert Reford’s new film about Dan Rather? The Left is going to treat CJ the same way they treated Bush, Limbaugh, and FOX News. Could be fun. Heck, WILL be fun!

Based on the wingnut posts my Conservative West Virginia cousin liked on FB. Conservatives are unsure how to respond. On the one hand, Obama isn’t doing enough to save those people - by killing all the terrorists - because he’s pure evil. On the other hand he’s overstepping his authority by doing anything at all.

I guess it depends on whether you’re more Islamophobic or Negrophobic.

Yeah when does that, he gets accused of wanting to do medical experiments on the kids or the kids get accused of being rapists. Seriously, there’s nothing Obama can do to please the likes of Hoft and others like him. Has Hoft ever given Obama any credit on anything ever? The answer is no because the man has a product to sell and it’s called Obame Derangement and it sells big among bitter assholes who can’t over the fact that this man is our president.

Police states don’t’ happen all at once. Freedom of religion is downgraded to freedom of worship. People are still allowed to pray - as long as the prayers stay in one little house. And then the houses are closed.

Hektor Linksrhein?

In 1899, Von Stephanitz was attending a dog show when he was shown a dog named Hektor Linksrhein.[23] Hektor was the product of few generations of selective breeding and completely fulfilled what Von Stephanitz believed a working dog should be. He was pleased with the strength of the dog and was so taken by the animal’s intelligence, loyalty and beauty, that he purchased him immediately.[35] After purchasing the dog he changed his name to Horand von Grafrath and Von Stephanitz founded the Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (Society for the German Shepherd Dog).[35] Horand was declared to be the first German Shepherd Dog and was the first dog added to the society’s breed register.[23]

Peter Capaldi is proving to be awesome. However…..

It’s very exciting, being “Doctor Who”. You wake up in the morning, you dont know which monsters you’re gonna face, which strange new planet or alien landscape you’re gonna see. It’s great, it’s, it’s the best job that there is on telly as far as I’m concerned. Because it’s so exciting, you’re working with people who are so talented and gifted. I mean there is no other program where you can - you know - find yourself facing, you know, monsters dressed men dressed in rubber suits being monsters and attacking you regardless and all the rest of it and meet the historical figures… It’s just, it’s, it’s a gas.

If it is a gas, you should really have a gastroenterologist or a chemist take a look.

We discovered mass graves that held 750,000 men, women and children. Now that we’re out, ISIS has gotten into the genocide business. Thousands of Christians are now dead, and they’re only getting started.

ISIS has stolen about a billion dollars from several banks they’ve looted. They are now being paid 3 million a year after capturing oil fields.

They’ve also captured a couple of industrial towns. ISIS now have unlimited funds and towns to build anything they want. One of the things they want is for you to be dead. You, me, and all the rest of America.

Admittedly, leaving troops behind is unprecedented. It would be as if Harry Truman left troops in Germany or Korea.

“Once, oh, the Germans, did the warlike jive.
But that couldn’t happen again.
We taught them a lesson, in 1945,
And they’ve hardly bothered us since then.”

It took a long time to get to a thousand. It took just a few months, I believe, to get to 2,000.

I think my increased presence here is a good thing for me. I feel welcome here, and I read and see all kinds of awesome internet content (mostly in the comments!). I’d like to thank Charles for a nice, sane place to talk about music, politics, technology, the news, etc. LGF is a wonderful site, and I look forward to more dialogue and content.

I was the first person in my family to use the internet (Prodigy, dial-up, long distance) and I’ve seen just about every kind of comment system you can imagine. The system that Charles devised is wonderful, the best internet comments on the internet. Now I know that’s not hard to do, but the comments here often are nuanced, informative and funny/beautiful/scary/pick-your-adjective.

LGF is a wonderful community. This concludes teleskiguy’s 2,001th comment at LGF.

WHY ARE THEY—

here’s what i did not know about first wives club 2:

it is a lesbian porno of no relation to the beloved 1996 classic.

so of course i, horrified that i’ve accidentally bought porn on my family’s account (and in that state of panic that kids work themselves into whenever anything regarding sex is mentioned), quickly shut off the TV and go upstairs and watch an episode of veggie tales to like, cleanse my soul and apologize to jesus, and that’s that.

It’s funny when conservatives pretend they give a shit about the deaths of brown people anywhere. Before and at the beginning of the Iraq War it was all about the nonexistent WMD and stealing oil. As support among moderates began to flag suddenly the talking point was all about Saddam’s rape rooms. Finally as the insurgency ground on and on, and service members kept dying conservatives couldn’t give a shit less about the Iraqi people, the talk was all fuck them and glass parking lot. Gateway pundit commenters sure do loves them some middle east glass parking lot, that shit passes for high wit over there.

So forgive me if I’m deeply skeptical about the sudden conservative concern over the Banjo-Kazooies. It’s all just thinly veiled manipulative political dumbshittery.

Contraceptive Use Is Key to Reducing Abortion Worldwide

“…As for making abortion illegal, our own history as well as experience from around the world amply demonstrate that if legal restrictions work at all, they do so largely by driving abortion underground—which does not end abortion, but makes it more dangerous for women.

In contrast, the evidence clearly shows that contraceptive use works. On a personal level, it reduces the probability of having an abortion by an estimated 85%. And at the program level, publicly subsidized family planning services in the United States have been shown to have helped women prevent 20 million pregnancies over the last 20 years, nine million of which would have been expected to end in abortion.”

I might actually be worried about nuns being forced to cover “abortion pills” on their charities’ employee health plans if those pills actually caused abortions. But they don’t. What those pills can prevent are endometriosis and ovarian / uterine tumors. I’m not saying fuck the nuns, but they don’t get to define the science / medicine in contradiction to actual doctors.

If Catholics truly believe life begins at conception then they shouldn’t allow pre menopausal women who’ve had hysterectomies but not oophorectomies to have sex at all. Because the risk of a fertilized egg with no uterus to implant to is there. I don’t see them getting all up in that.

I can’t help but notice that you didn’t actually answer the question. How do you feel to be the villain in a Left Wing film?

What makes you think he’s going to be a villain?

Even if it’s extremely sympathetic to Rather, maybe the movie will be sympathetic about how a guy with such a long career was in a hurry and got sloppy, that he was scammed by either a grifter or a Bush operative (depending who’s writing the script)…

The guy who catches the clues the protagonist didn’t… isn’t the villain. The villain is the guy who gave Rather the documents in the first place and lied about where they came from.

Get it? His real verse is funny because of what happened between 1918 and 1945. (Just how have the Germans bothered us since 1945, and what does it have to do with whatever point you were trying to make?)

I think this video is great reporting of the cannabis scene in the middle of the Colorado mountains.

As I’ve grown older I’ve come to the realization that “conservatism” is a rather infantile way of thinking: there’s no shades of grey,..>

People who point out that the Global Warming predictions from five, ten, twenty and forty years ago have pretty much not happened are compared to people who deny the Holocaust happened. Many Liberals refuse to allow prayer meetings in schools. Tea Party members are dismissed as racist hate mongers without, well, any real proof.

Above all, the Left is not able to string together a serious argument. I’ve had dozens of conversations on this thread, and not one offered a thought worth considering.

You’re living in the past, my friend. These days, liberals are the political equivalent of Pat Boone, while Conservatives are Little Richard. re: #373 sagehen

What makes you think he’s going to be a villain?>

Because, without Charles being the villain, and I mean Bond Villain level evil, you don’t have a movie.

>Even if it’s extremely sympathetic to Rather, maybe the movie will be sympathetic about how a guy with such a long career was in a hurry and got sloppy, that he was scammed by either a grifter or a Bush operative (depending who’s writing the script)…>

That version would portray Dandy Dan as a senile, blithering incompetent, who had no business being on the air. Yeah, that’s a feel good movie. Kinda like “All The President’s Men”, if we learn that the Watergate break-in never happened.

>The guy who catches the clues the protagonist didn’t… isn’t the villain. >

Not in a fair movie - but then Charles isn’t going to be played by Robert Redford, is he? CJ is going to get a character actor.

>The villain is the guy who gave Rather the documents in the first place and lied about where they came from.

Mmmmmmm - no. If the memo story went on the air, Dan learned the truth, and the next day resigned on the air - yeah. That could fly. The problem is that CJ proved the document was an EXTREMELY clumsy forgery very early in the game, and Dan Rather then hunkered down and INSISTED the memo was authentic. For Dan not to look like an utter fool, Johnson has to be a liar. There is no other way.

Other problems with the film. What about Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Killian’s widow and son? Will THEY be portrayed as liars?

My guess is that Redford met Rather at a party, was told his side of the story, thought “this is great” and optioned it. Right now, he has researchers going through the records and shaking their heads slowly. Robert looks at the timeline of what ACTUALLY happened, and asks “do I want to spend two years of my life, and forty million dollars for an art film? Besides, I think I could get a big paycheck appearing in Captain America 3.”

My guess is that this will end up in development hell, along with that Tom Hanks film about Deep Throat.

The vast majority of film projects end up in development hell. So what?

Your insinuation that Obama sees ISIS as no worse than drunk frat boys is disgusting. Nothing more than the rambling of someone with so much hatred for the president that logical thought is no longer possible. I’d tell you to fuck off, but everyone else already has, so that would just be piling on.

As for the midterms, you might gain a few seats in the House and narrowly gain control of the Senate. If so, enjoy it while it lasts, because your party is no longer viable in presidential election years. Look up the word demographics and peruse the stats. Time and numbers are not on your side. Indeed, you’re already kinda fucked, you just don’t know it yet.

Meanwhile in the Middle East, 20 Rockets were fired from Gaza this morning, damaging civilian houses and severely injuring at least two Israeli civilians. The IDF is now retaliating against the sources of the fire in the northern section of the Strip.

Fun Times.. ///

YNET: Rockets launched on Israel after ceasefire expires; IDF retaliates

As the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire expired at 8 am on Friday, air raid sirens were heard in Ashkelon, and the Hof Ashkelon and Eshkol Regional Councils. Gaza militants launched a barrage of rockets on southern Israel; Iron Dome intercepted one over Ashkelon.

As of 10:25 am, the IDF was holding its fire. Shortly after, political sources said that the prime minister and defense minister ordered the military to decisively respond to Hamas’ breaking of the ceasefire. The IDF began attacking Gaza around 10:40 am.

At 11:08 am, several houses in Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council were damaged by shrapnel from a rocket explosion. At 11:27 am, the Iron Dome intercepted a rocket above Sderot.

In the hour and a half after the ceasefire expired, 20 rockets were fired from the Strip. No injuries or damages were reported. One rocket fell in open area outside of a kibbutz in Eshkol, one rocket fell short inside Gaza, while the rest exploded in open areas in Gaza-border communities.

Republican Senate candidate Ed Gillespie and congressional candidate Barbara Comstock’s efforts to attract independent voters without alienating tea party activists have landed them in a sticky situation. Both candidates were scheduled to attend a public meeting of the Northern Shenandoah Valley Tea Party on Thursday, but after organizers heard the gathering could be infiltrated by Democrats, they moved it to a private location that one activist said would keep out the “liberal press” and “unfriendlies.” When word of the change got out, the candidates decided a conference call actually would be best. Democrats pounced, asking what Gillespie would say to tea party supporters that he couldn’t say to reporters. Tea party activists who’d been hoping for some face-to-face contact with the candidates weren’t happy, either.

I had the Today show on yammering in the background and they have a huge crowd there to watch new ‘music’ sensation Iggy Azalea. So, being a music lover I had to turn the sound up and see what all the excitement from the crowd was about. I was not expecting much.

Well, two ‘songs’ later and I am wondering what the hell? Really. This is modern music. This is entertainment. And what the hell is wrong with her butt??? Ahhh…maybe that is the hook. A big butt (fake?) so you can shake it better. It sure can’t be about singing. It can’t be about music. And what is the entertainment?

Well, All I can say is, Get Off My Lawn. Get Off My TV!!! And what the hell happened to the Today show.

Bah!

That too.

Honestly, Boehner bleating about 40+ JRRBZ BILLZ is hilariously wrong, and the rest of his screed doesn’t even rise to the self-awareness of a potted plant. He should direct his ire at himself for being a weak, ineffectual Speaker beholden to the nuts instead of yelling at Obama.

No shit. If we want to talk leaders “standing up their base,” then he can start by putting the Senate immigration reform bill to a vote. And then following that up with a clean Continuing Resolution bill, as that joke of a “budget” that the House passed is going nowhere.

The world is about to lose a really nice guy, a friend of our family who I’ve known for almost 25 yrs. There’s a big group of friends this man attracted because he’s just the nicest person you could ask to meet, ever. He’s lying in a hospital bed on a ventilator, dying of stage 4 lung cancer. The doctors give him a week at most. They’re trying to remove his vent and put him on a tracheotomy tube so he can say good bye to his family. I said it a couple of days ago, but it bears repeating:

Without Love, we’re fucked as a species. Without Love, we will eventually destroy ourselves. Without Love there’s really only Hate to fill the void. As witnessed earlier in this thread. At the end of everything, what matters is that, everything else is just fucking unimportant.

I’ve known this man’s ex wife for longer than I’ve known him. They have two great kids together and while the divorce was a mess at first, they decided that they loved their kids more than they hate each other. And wonder of wonders, they both proclaim each other as best friends. So much so that he trusted her to make his medical decisions and final arrangements according to his wishes. Because, again, they decided that hating each other was not only counterproductive but that it would cause far more harm not only to themselves but others.

I got into a huge fight with these folks years ago and had written them off as friends. And even then, they picked up a phone to call me, tell me that they wanted me there and that they STILL loved me and hoped I had forgiven them. So, you know, all this other hateful bullshit is just that. BULLSHIT. It serves no one. It’s a fucking brain and soul eating virus. I almost succumbed to it and because I let it take over I lost years with friends that I simply have no chance of getting back. Again, as witnessed by a cowboy who managed to get kicked in the head a few times, hate is just fucking stupid.

So this weekend will be spent full of tears and tons of regret. Because I held a stupid grudge. Lesson learned, it’s just too bad it hurts this much. I made my apologies and was forgiven, but this won’t ever heal up totally. THAT is what hate gives you and nothing else except destruction others end up paying for too.

I just wish more people loved America more than they hated some caricature of some “other” they’ve cooked up in their hate addled heads. Because there’s not going to be anything left if we can’t rid ourselves of one of the worst diseases humans have concocted, Hate. Cancer’s bad enough.

Wrote this tweet last night.

The ceasefire has indeed ended, as rockets fired from Gaza hit Israel. Israel returned fire. Hamas says that they’ll continue to negotiate, but they refuse to give up demands that Israel ends the blockade and that Israel must open up the border crossings.

As the President has authorized airstrikes, and the first bombing runs are already underway (hitting ISIS artillery), so far the top story is the situation in Iraq but the Gaza conflict is back above the fold at NBC News, Fox News, CBS News, and others. It’s already the top story at NY Times, overtaking the authorized actions in Iraq.

In other words, the genocide of the Yezidi and the atrocities committed by ISIS against everyone they consider nonbelievers is already being pushed down and off the front page by a conflict that has resulted in far fewer casualties. There’s nary a word about the Syrian civil war either, and that conflict rages on as well.

Clearly POTUS wants to distract America from the real invaders:

A Toddler Sneaked Through The White House Fence Last Night

Secret Service agents certainly weren’t expecting to intercept a toddler Thursday night on the White House lawn, just as President Barack Obama was preparing to deliver a statement on Iraq.

The child squeezed through the iron bars of the fence in front of the President’s residence around 8:10 p.m., according to a White House pool report.

Secret Service spokesman Edwin Donovan said the toddler, who wasn’t identified, was let off easy.

“We were going to wait until he learned to talk to question him, but in lieu of that he got a timeout and was sent on way with his parents,” Donovan said, as quoted by the pool report.

Needless to say, I’m concerned about getting re-entangled in Iraq, but if Irbil is really in danger from ISIS, then we need to be hitting ISIS from the air. Iraqi Kurdistan is the FUBAR mess that is Iraq’s only real chance at a multi-ethnic democracy, and if they need our help, we must give it to them.

Also, I’m sure Maliki would scream bloody murder if we started handing advanced weaponry to the Peshmerga (they’re still using T-55s?) but fuck him. I’d give the Kurds everything they want in the latest high tech military equipment.

It’s the definition of a long term relationship:

Recent studies of “well-preserved remains of a dog-like canid from the Razboinichya Cave” in the Altai Mountains of southern Siberia concluded that a particular instance of early wolf domestication approximately 33,000 years ago did not result in modern dog lineages, possibly because of climate disruption during the Last Glacial Maximum.[4][7] The authors postulate that at least several such incipient events have occurred. A study of fossil dogs and wolves in Belgium, Ukraine, and Russia tentatively dates domestication from 14,000 years ago to more than 31,700 years ago.[8] Another recent study has found support for claims of dog domestication between 14,000 and 16,000 years ago, with a range between 9,000 and 34,000 years ago, depending on mutation rate assumptions.[9]

re: #538 Ian G.

A great many problems stem from the fact that the Maliki government doesn’t have the confidence of the Iraqi people and that the military isn’t cohesive or unifying either. They’ve melted away at first contact with ISIS forces even when they’ve got superior weapons.

It’s allowed ISIS to march through Northern Iraq with little resistance. One of the key questions is whether they could hold against a determined force - as it is, the US couldn’t hold the region without significantly more troops than ISIS claims to have. That bodes poorly for ISIS long term success and their bloody campaign that includes ethnic cleansing and genocide isn’t going to ingratiate itself with the locals. But without an Iraqi military willing to step up, the US can’t do much here without getting a SOFA with the Iraqis to help the Kurds on the ground.

The Kurds deserve our support, as do the Iraqis, but that puts our goals at issue since the Kurds want independence or at least autonomy and neither the Iraqi government nor the Turkish government want that in any substantive way.

There’s a middle ground, where we could provide weapon systems and upgrades that would either fit the training they have no or could be adopted with little familiarization training. Plenty of gear on the export markets that is made for a conscript military that places functionality over technical superiority.

Happy Friday for all those on my side of the dateline.

My kitty would never… ever…

In the 1980s, hackers used a technique called “wardialing,” cycling through numbers with their modems to find unprotected computers far across the internet. The advent of Wi-Fi brought “wardriving,” putting an antenna in a car and cruising a city to suss out weak and unprotected Wi-Fi networks. This weekend at the DefCon hacker conference in Las Vegas, Bransfield will debut the next logical step: The “WarKitteh” collar, a device he built for less than $100 that turns any outdoor cat into a Wifi-sniffing hacker accomplice.

Despite the title of his DefCon talk—“How To Weaponize Your Pets”-Bransfield admits WarKitteh doesn’t represent a substantial security threat. Rather, it’s the sort of goofy hack designed to entertain the con’s hacker audience. Still, he was surprised by just how many networks tracked by his data-collecting cat used WEP, a form of wireless encryption known for more than ten years to be easily broken. “My intent was not to show people where to get free Wi-Fi. I put some technology on a cat and let it roam around because the idea amused me,” says Bransfield, who works for the security consultancy Tenacity. “But the result of this cat research was that there were a lot more open and WEP-encrypted hot spots out there than there should be in 2014.”

AS PETS:

“The most widespread form of interspecies bonding occurs between humans and dogs”[57] and the keeping of dogs as companions, particularly by elites, has a long history.[60] (As a possible example, at the Natufian culture site of Ain Mallaha in Israel, dated to 12,000 BC, the remains of an elderly human and a four-to-five-month-old puppy were found buried together).[61]

Well aware of this, but in my perfect world (which of course, Obama does not operate in), I wouldn’t give a damn what the Iraqi government or the Turkish government (Erdogan is Turkey’s answer to Ted Cruz) want with respect to the Kurds. I’d only listen to what Irbil wants.

Now that we’re out, ISIS has gotten into the genocide business.

I feel like answering this point, because it has been on my mind for a while. Back when I was opposing us invading Iraq (yeah I was against it since before it started) people pompously told me that even if all my concerns came to pass (which none of them would, since I was a hippie who hated America and had Bush Derangement Syndrome), “no one would miss Saddam Hussein.” And I thought to myself, I am not so sure about that. History has seen lots of case of overthrown tyrants being replaced by even worse horrors. It is more the rule than the exception, actually.

So I would say this is partly our fault. Not because we left, but because we overthrew a stable, if awful, regime with no fucking clue of how to stabilize it afterwards. Fantasies of candy and flowers and paying for itself and over in weeks or months, certainly not years, notwithstanding.

In short, fuck you; why do you hate america and have Obama Derangement Syndrome.

I was one of the people who supported going into Iraq to overthrow Saddam because of his own genocidal actions against the Marsh Arabs and Kurds (and democide generally against anyone opposed to his regime, which was the reason the no-fly zones were established after the first Gulf War).

Removing him and hoping that the successor government would hold together was in hindsight wishful thinking though the failure of the military to hold together after we withdrew our forces because no SOFA was concluded surprises a whole lot of people. There was no reason to think it couldn’t be a coherent force, but the Maliki government frittered away the tools at his disposal and lost support of a whole lot of Iraqis in part because of his actions. That gave ISIS the opportunity they needed to make inroads and exploit the divisions in the Iraqi government/military.

They’re not like past immigrants!” But whenever I press them to think of what it is that these immigrants are doing that past ones haven’t, the response is always the same: “THEY WON’T LEARN ENGLISH!!!”

So, the US bombing campaign is barely underway, and the right is already trying to find reason to disagree with how the President is acting. In this case, it’s claiming that it’s too little (and too late).

Shock and awe this isn’t, but we’ll see just what the DoD has in store for ISIS in coming days.

They need to visit my hometown Italian Home Club. Second and sometimes third generation children of Italian immigrants having a beer and speaking in half English and half Italian still. My grandparents on my mothers side came over from Ireland, and they were kinda treated like shit for a while and they spoke English (well a variety of it, sometimes grandpa was a little hard to understand when he got excited)

New York Times To Finally Call Torture ‘Torture’

New York Times executive editor Dean Baquet announced Thursday evening that the newspaper “will use the word ‘torture’ to describe incidents in which we know for sure that interrogators inflicted pain on a prisoner in an effort to get information.”

After facing fierce criticism for its decade-long refusal to use the word in its coverage of the Central Intelligence Agency’s interrogation program, the paper’s change is widely seen as overdue.

“File this one in the ‘about time’ folder,” wrote Washington Post media critic Erik Wemple, who promised to “dive into the archives to fish out the paper’s greatest torture euphemisms.”

Not a shock; no matter what President Obama does, the RWNJ’s will be there to piss and moan about it. EIther it’s too much or it’s not enough.

My personal opinion regarding ISIS: If I were CiC, I’d bomb them off the face of the Earth - my goal would be nothing less than their complete and utter annihilation. To be honest, despite their intense fanaticism, I’d be willing to wager - were I betting man - that a good-sized chunk of their ‘forces’ would drop their weapons and flee in stark terror if they were actually confronted with an overwhelming show of force by a superior foe. Most of them are adventurers - thrill-seekers out for a bit of fun. That’s not to say there aren’t die-hard fanatics who would indeed fight to the death, but I get the feeling such people are in minority. What’s sustaining them is victories combined with a sense of inevitability; once they start getting rolled back, and if they start taking massive losses (by that I mean 5,000 or 6,000 ISIS fighters dead over the space of a couple of days), I think the attitude among a lot of the ISIS fighters is going to change.

But that’s just me.

Yea…. I love her statement afterwards…..

As the election returns came in, Jackson wrote that she was satisfied with the results, because “I don’t really like numbers, and Commissioners mostly talk about numbers.” Her “second thought” was that this was only her “first foray into actual ‘running,’” and that there are things she can do to improve her chances next time.

“I do portray a ‘ditz’ extremely well and have been paid well for that…gift. My persona could be a stumbling block,” she wrote. “My voice. The bow. I’ve only actually lived here 17 months, and my opponents are long-time residents.”

Still, she is worried that the women who defeated her “are not informed about Agenda 21 and Common Core and its ramifications on local government. The big picture. I think they’ve been living in the Williamson County bubble and are not aware that the Obama Administration and the fast-moving lunge toward socialism in our country has begun to erase our freedoms, even here.”

It’s the same every generation, the people here get used to the international equivalent of a gated community and then are shocked when some people who don’t fit their idealized stereotype move in next door. Every wave of new immigrants has resulted in screams about their failure to “assimilate” and how they won’t “fit in.”

Of course, we also know its mutated cousin, the argument that the only way minorities can succeed is by “acting white.”

How did she reach that conclusion? Because she knew a Vietnamese family who’d come over and their kids learned English, so that was proof that they were “better.” Yeah, they still ran a shop selling Vietnamese food and they still lived much in the traditions of their home country, but they knew English and that was the proof of their “assimilation.”

There are other kinds of voter fraud, such as crooked officials who tamper with ballots/counts, but there is a vanishingly small number of incidents that could remotely be considered voter fraud for which voter ID was meant to prevent.

The harms resulting from imposing voter ID rules outweighs the so-called protection, because more people have been documented as being turned away because of lack of ID than the number of people who have even been accused of voting in the place of someone else.

Given the nature of comments these articles now gather at the Salem Communications websites, such as this one:

Obama is a tyrant who apparently is biding his time, waiting until we’ve been lulled into a sense of complacency before making his move. Totally out of sync with every dictator and tyrant in history, but I’m sure that’s all just part of his cunning plan.

And seriously, the Tea Party as “centrist”? How do they reach that, other than classifying everything to the left of Genghis Khan as “liberal”?

re: #625 lawhawk

There are other kinds of voter fraud, such as crooked officials who tamper with ballots/counts, but there is a vanishingly small number of incidents that could remotely be considered voter fraud for which voter ID was meant to prevent.

The harms resulting from imposing voter ID rules outweighs the so-called protection, because more people have been documented as being turned away because of lack of ID than the number of people who have even been accused of voting in the place of someone else.

Exactly…. The major problems are at the Wholesale, not the Retail level. I’m much more concerned about the basic integrity of the voting system(s) than anything else. In my perfect world, the electronic voting machines would output a paper record that the voter could then read and verify. That would go into the ballot box. They would be the official record in the case of a challenge or recount. 10% of the machines would have their totals audited automatically against the paper record, and any deficiencies would trigger a full audit of all electronic results from that voting location against the paper ones.
