Very Kinks-like.

But written from a more mature perspective.

Kent Brantly, one of the two Americans infected by the Ebola virus in Liberia, said in an open letter Friday that “I am growing stronger every day and I want to thank God for his mercy as I have wrestled with this terrible disease.”

“When I started feeling ill on that Wednesday morning, I immediately isolated myself until the test confirmed my diagnosis three days later,” he continued. “When the result was positive, I remember a deep sense of peace that was beyond all understanding. God was reminding me of what He had taught me years ago, that He will give me everything I need to be faithful to Him.”

Oh merciful CDC?

Good tunes. There is a little hint of one of my favorite turn of the 80s bands in their sound. Squeeze. Well, at least to me.

And an upding for wrenchwench for the Kinks reference. Many times the Kinks get left out of any discussions of the early Brit invasion bands for helping set the tone for pop rock for years to come. Some of their tunes and albums are legend…like Arthur.

The Kinks were great in concert. Saw them in LA (many years ago).

I tried for years to see them, but they were rare in America (sadly) for too many years. I finally saw them in Cincinnati (Music Hall) on the Low Budget tour.

Church Plans Animal Fighting Contest
August 5, 2014

STEPHENSVILLE, Wis. - St. Patrick’s Parish in Hortonville, Wisconsin plan to host an event on Saturday, August 9 in which pigs are punched in the face, kicked, body-slammed, jumped on, yelled at and thrown into a bucket. […]

UPDATE 8/7/2014 - JUST UNCOVERED - After St. Patrick’s Church “pig wrestle” event is over, all animals will be killed. […]

More info on this “sport” here: en.wikipedia.org

Naturally, the church claims that the “pig rassle” is free of animal abuse. It’s just part of a yearly event that includes Mass, dinner, a parade, raffles and a live band. Good clean American fun—go to church, watch a parade, have dinner, dance, and terrorize some animals before sending them off to slaughter.

I’m sure Jesus (a.s.) would be very, very proud. //

P.S. I can’t help but wonder why participants have to sign a waiver to participate if there’s no danger or abuse involved? Guess theie insurance company doesn’t think it’s quite so harmless, huh?

Bull fights.

I actually went to a bull fight many years ago when I was on tour in Spain (the promoters thought it would be a treat on the band’s day off), and had to leave because I was getting physically sick. Got outside the arena and vomited. It was horrifying beyond belief. Pure barbarism.

Got my geek on and finally saw Guardians of the Galaxy today. Awesome movie. Love love love. James Gunn is absolutely a kid from my generation and it showed. And Chris Pratt was brilliant. Definitely my favorite Marvel film so far. The audience I was with laughed and had a great time.

Saw it at the Alamo Drafthouse here, and all their pre-show silliness consisted of a bunch of raccoon videos mixed in with cheesy sci-fi and a few relevant Marvel cartoons. It’s like they knew just what the audience wanted. Haha.

Lament for Ignacio Sánchez Mejías

1. Cogida and death

At five in the afternoon.
It was exactly five in the afternoon.
A boy brought the white sheet
at five in the afternoon.
A frail of lime ready prepared
at five in the afternoon.
The rest was death, and death alone.

The wind carried away the cottonwool
at five in the afternoon.
And the oxide scattered crystal and nickel
at five in the afternoon.
Now the dove and the leopard wrestle
at five in the afternoon.
And a thigh with a desolated horn
at five in the afternoon.
The bass-string struck up
at five in the afternoon.
Arsenic bells and smoke
at five in the afternoon.
Groups of silence in the corners
at five in the afternoon.
And the bull alone with a high heart!
At five in the afternoon.
When the sweat of snow was coming
at five in the afternoon,
when the bull ring was covered with iodine
at five in the afternoon.
Death laid eggs in the wound
at five in the afternoon.
At five in the afternoon.
At five o’clock in the afternoon.

A coffin on wheels is his bed
at five in the afternoon.
Bones and flutes resound in his ears
at five in the afternoon.
Now the bull was bellowing through his forehead
at five in the afternoon.
The room was iridiscent with agony
at five in the afternoon.
In the distance the gangrene now comes
at five in the afternoon.
Horn of the lily through green groins
at five in the afternoon.
The wounds were burning like suns
at five in the afternoon.
At five in the afternoon.
Ah, that fatal five in the afternoon!
It was five by all the clocks!
It was five in the shade of the afternoon!

Man police shot in Walmart killed over fake gun, family says

Relatives of John Crawford, the man shot dead by police at a Beavercreek Walmart, say they’ve contacted civil rights organizations because they believe the shooting was not justified.

They believe he was killed possibly after he picked up a toy gun in the store.

Crawford, 22, of Ridge Drive in Fairfield, was identified as the man Beavercreek police shot and killed Tuesday night.

LeeCee Johnson, who said she is the mother of Crawford’s children, said she was on a cell phone call with Crawford when he was shot by officers. She said Crawford went to the area to visit family members.

“We was just talking. He said he was at the video games playing videos and he went over there by the toy section where the toy guns were. And the next thing I know, he said ‘It’s not real,’ and the police start shooting and they said ‘Get on the ground,’ but he was already on the ground because they had shot him,” she said, adding: “And I could hear him just crying and screaming. I feel like they shot him down like he was not even human.”

Your nic reminded me of something I saw along the same line but with a black bear. They had it muzzled and mitten like things on its claws.
