At this point I can’t blame him for not talking to them. They haven’t really seemed to give a fuck, their actions have contributed to making this worse, and do you really trust them to investigate this? I think most people don’t.

Either that or the Ferguson PD refused to send anyone.

But note too that this isn’t just Ferguson PD who’s involved in these photos. There are multiple agencies, and I can’t quite make out the emblem on the uniforms of those on top of the armored vehicle.

6 petesh  Aug 13, 2014 10:36:07am

Thanks for keeping on this. At first I was worried that Ferguson would be a one-day story, since most of the major media initially seemed to treat the shooting as a local incident of no vast import, but now it’s not going away, and the national implications are beginning to become obvious. Well, obvious to approximately 73% of the country, anyway.

On the substance of the image above: What are they thinking? What fantasies are roiling through the deluded brains of these fake assault troops? How can we break through and involve the individuals pictured, and their colleagues, in any kind of meditative self-reflection? This is … nuckin’ futz.

“It’s absolutely unbelievable,” Beck said, “and especially if you look at it this way: the entire world is on fire, we have companies that are leaving America. Why are the companies leaving America? It’s too expensive for them to stay, but also I’m not sure if I’m going to bet on the stability of this place.”

“You add instability,” Beck lectured his staff, “you add riots on the street, more companies want to leave, more companies overseas say I don’t know if I should invest there. We’ve always been stable. The president has got to call for stability!”

“…The fact that police are eager to use their new weapons and vehicles isn’t a surprise. As the New York Times notes, “The ubiquity of SWAT teams has changed not only the way officers look, but also the way departments view themselves. Recruiting videos feature clips of officers storming into homes with smoke grenades and firing automatic weapons.” Put simply, when you give anyone toys, you have to expect they’ll play with them.”

It’s a certainty that his lawyer would have made Johnson available to the Ferguson or St. Louis PD - in fact, he said so on TV. That means the reason why he isn’t meeting with them is because they weren’t interested in talking to him.

The main eyewitness, who was standing right next to the shooting victim when it happened, and they don’t want to talk to him.

28 lawhawk  Aug 13, 2014 10:48:59am

And like I posted downstairs, the Ferguson PD has said that the protests during the day have been peaceful. So why the hell are they training weapons on protesters during the day? They haven’t done anything to warrant this at all.

The Ferguson PD says that the protests and vigils during the day have been peaceful, so why are the police armed for combat? Why the NOTAM? These are the actions of a police department and culture of law enforcement in the STL area that are out of control and unable to reduce tensions.

It’s one thing to have that gear out in preparation for rioting that might occur overnight, but this is an ongoing activity during all times of the day. Cops have repeatedly ratcheted up tensions throughout the entire crisis, and they’ve done themselves no favors once again by essentially blaming the community (if only they disperse ahead of the evening - meaning what exactly? by noon? 3pm? 5pm?)

Every major PD has had excessive force and deaths resulting from officer actions. NYPD is no exception, but what the Ferguson PD and STL County police (and other agencies responding) are doing takes the cake for increasing tensions. NYPD has done quite a bit to improve community relations; there were no riots following the Eric Garner death on Staten Island, and protests proceeded peacefully. No riot troops out. No guys with sniper rifles. No NOTAMs. Nothing of the sort.

The community on Staten Island is still justifiably angry over the death, but the tensions are being managed in a way that is more constructive and less likely to devolve in to riots.

Ferguson and MO law enforcement is acting in a way that would precipitate further violence. And that’s something the DOJ and FBI ought to take a closer look at. It goes to systemic and deeply rooted (to say nothing of outdated) practices that use military gear to cover for clear problems with tactics and methods.

How does the person putting up the post know whether that rifle was trained on anyone?

If I had that guy’s job*, I’d want to take the range to various landmarks in the vicinity so that if I ever did have to take a shot, I’d know ahead of time the range.

At least, that’s how the top Marine sniper from the second Gulf war told it.

Just because a guy is looking through the scope doesn’t mean he’s drawing a bead on a person.

Bryan Fischer…

And what is the real story you ask?

VA Hospital Chief of Public Affairs Director Sheryl Grubb says. “Thanks to you, yes we found out that Fox News was blocked out from one of waiting areas. It was just a misunderstanding. We’ve had a lot of veterans with diverse personalities. A lot of veterans complaining about one news station or the other, so the intent was really to be fair and equitable and take all stations off…”

“…We’ve had several incidents of veterans actually arguing, fighting over the different news stations. Some wanted to watch news, some did not. Others wanted to watch specific stations.”

Grubb says Fox News will be unblocked immediately and a check will be made to make sure it’s not blocked from other television waiting rooms.
kmph-kfre.com

So much for the “Obama Mandate” for CNN only. One pharmacy waiting area in one V.A. hospital does not a Presidential mandate make…

Besides which the original intent (which apparently was not cleared with the hospital administration) was to block ALL news channels and only show internal V.A. programming to prevent further arguments amongst the veterans waiting for their prescriptions.

This country is out of control. I can’t believe it has come to this with policing.

I sure as hell hope some politicians (Democrat?) are watching this and are going to turn this into some campaign points.

Normally it is Republicans that are the hardcore law and order types, so I have a feeling they will be fine with what is going on. If anyone in the Republican party might use this Missouri mess as an issue it might be Rand Paul (that hurt to type that).

So, it must be the Democrats. If you want to use the term “jack booted thugs” as an image of an America that people fear, here is the golden opportunity. Same for anyone that fashions themselves independent or libertarian.

I’ve been busy a lot since this has started and not watching much TV political news. Has anyone seen any politicians anywhere mentioning this mess and how it is being handled. If not, they are not doing there jobs,

The general is always under control of the president or a dictator himself in which case he is no longer just a general. Sorry you refuse to get that.

The general is under control of the president in the president’s role as Commander in Chief. The president is a combined military/civilian figure. As is a dictator.

It is just goddamn ridiculous to fight against the actual, literal definition of martial law: Troops in the street enforcing law, not under control of the civilian authorities, holding trials in military courts.

Saying it is not martial law in no way takes away from the overreach that it is. It’s just goddamn accurate. There is no reason to be sloppy in terminology just because it sounds cool.

Bryan pictures himself as a gatekeeper, determining who is In or Out. It’s a pathological condition of mankind to set oneself up in this way, to attach one’s self to a faith whose mission, whatever its particular doctrines, is to reassure itself and its members of Eternal Life and to act as gatekeeper for everyone else, keeping all who are not like them Out of their imagined future paradise.

“When I see an Obama sticker go by in a car, I’ve never had anger like that in my life. I want to run ‘em off the road. I don’t care if it’s a woman.” He added while smiling: “I’m not kidding, my anger is overwhelming at the people who vote for Obama because I think they just plain have no idea what he is or what’s happening to their country. And they’re the something for nothing people.”
Because Obama’s caused all these problems. Now compare this with how many on Mr. Cowan’s own network reacted to the Dixie Chick’s mild saying that they were ashamed the Dixie Chicks were from Texas. Right wing hypocrites have no perspective. No honesty and the only reason why they hate this president is because of his skin color.

The only possible reasons involve releasing details of the autopsy report and/or naming the killer cop.

I don’t see anything about special circumstances there. Why would that be just one guy, with the rest having to wait? That’s illogical.

Don’t want to get mired in these myths again, but if the thief died before Christ, he’d be in ‘limbo/hell’ with the just of the Old Testament. Christ liberates all of them during his dead time, the end of his first coming. Called in medieval art “The Harrowing of Hell”.

It’s like how they spun THC in Trayvon’s bloodstream into a defense, trying to argue that even a minute amount in his system could impair his judgement, making him more likely to act on an impulse to attack Zimmerman than run away.

All in all, the Ferguson PD seems to have settled on a “cop afraid for his life” excuse, trying to present a scenario where the cop was so battered by Brown that even as his attacker was running away, he felt compelled to kill him rather than call it in or engage in pursuit.

The special circumstance was they were both being crucified. The bigger question is how could anyone have heard him say it, and if they did manage to do that, were they a reliable witness?

True, but although there are some glimpses of that in the NT, the story is unbiblical.

Nor do I, but I’ve been around long enough to remember when there was no guarantee that anyone was going to heaven. Just the opposite, as I remember it.

If I were a religious person, I’d say that people who tell God what he’s going to do are committing blasphemy.

184 Targetpractice  Aug 13, 2014 12:09:01pm

Hell, considering how they’ve been cranking up the escalation higher and higher, it wouldn’t surprise me that they’re moving in all the men and materiel because they’re about to announce that the cop is being cleared of any wrongdoing.

185 lawhawk  Aug 13, 2014 12:09:27pm

Heavy handed police is acting heavy handed. Before the Internet, these kinds of police responses (sending in a convoy of SWAT) wouldn’t have gotten coverage nearly as instantaneously as it is now. Today, someone on twitter could show photos or post that the police are moving assets towards Ferguson, even though there’s no evidence of anything going on in Ferguson at present.

That suggests that the Ferguson PD or STL County police think that things might turn south after the presser they’re supposed to hold later today - based on the evidence of their own police officer, without interviewing the other person in the incident who survived (who was interviewed by the county prosecutor and FBI). To suggest that there’s a whole lot of reason to not trust what’s coming out of the Ferguson PD is an understatement.

And they know that whatever they’re going to say is going to do a whole lot more to upset a community already on the edge.

I have a real bad feeling about this.

The RWNJs will use whatever comes next as proof that Brown deserved to be killed, that the community is violent, etc., even though we’ve just barely gotten evidence of what actually happened. The only indisputable facts are:

1) Michael Brown was unarmed.
2) Michael Brown was shot and killed by a Ferguson PD office.
3) Ferguson PD has used heavy handed tactics to deal with protests, and taken steps that have made the situation worse (from getting a NOTAM, to forcing journalists out of the area).

Everything else at this point is supposition or the PD engaging in CYA or otherwise issuing partial details in a light most favorable to them (as in not interviewing the surviving witnesses, etc.) all while shielding the officer from further scrutiny.

Not all of RC doctrine even claims to be biblical. Tradition, reason, and infallible revelation to popes and councils are acceptable. Drives fundies mad.

re: #178 Skip Intro

The special circumstance was they were both being crucified.

Dead is dead, whatever the method. There was no reason for Jesus to take up a single guy to the paradise. To me this indicates that after Jesus’ death this is the standard procedure.

The bigger question is how could anyone have heard him say it, and if they did manage to do that, were they a reliable witness?

That’s not an issue that is relevant to this discussion, since we’re not discussing this historically, but rather as if the NT were inspired.

If we were to discuss this historically, then most of the gospels is not history at all, and the thief thing would most probably be just another legend,

So they won’t release Mike Brown’s autopsy report, but will release that the cop had injuries?? And I wonder if the cop will be tested for drugs, like they tested the victim?

None of this makes any sense. Add to the fact that they threatened to arrest the media, the flyover restrictions, the deafening silence from Ferguson PD. It sounds like a cover up. I’m afraid Mike Brown’s family will never get justice and this will continue to happen. Ugh.

Envious.

Immediately in front of San Moise is a fantastic ice cream parlor, 50 mt. down on the left side. Waiters pride themselves on memorizing complex orders from large tables of tourists.

In preparation, try reading some of Donna Leon’s 15 or so Commisario Brunneti mysteries. She was my kid’s Lit teacher.

Who gave us the quote “Do not point a gun at anyone unless you intend to shoot them?”

I offer for comparison the opening of Rule 1 of the NRA’s Gun Safety Tips:

1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
This is the primary rule of gun safety. A safe direction means that the gun is pointed so that even if it were to go off it would not cause injury or damage. …

No, it’s not identical, but the practical effect of the advice is.

Seems a little late for the #Ferguson PD to be saying the cop who killed Mike Brown sustained facial injuries.

So. I guess they got together and gave the guy a few punches in the face to make it look good? It’s rotten in Ferguson Mo. I can smell it all the way to Pennsylvania.
