One of the Outside Groups Inciting Violence in Ferguson: The Revolutionary Communist Party

Last night, with the help of some others on Twitter, I discovered an important story the media have so far missed: one of the main outside groups involved in inciting violence in Ferguson is the notorious Revolutionary Communist Party, a Maoist group started by cultish leader Bob Avakian. One of their slogans is “No solution without violent revolution.”

The RCP is generally despised by liberal community organizers, and well known for showing up at protests such as OWS and doing their best to instigate violent conflicts between police and protesters.

More details emerge from the arrests made last night. There were 78 arrested, and all but three were for failure to disperse.

Of the 78, all but three were arrested for refusing to disperse, the records show. Two people, both from the St. Louis area, were arrested for unlawful use of a weapon, and a man from Rockton, Illinois, was arrested for interfering with an officer.

Refusing to disperse was the prime charge, but note too that the officers thwarted people from actually trying to leave the area:

Police said that they were fired on and had Molotov cocktails thrown at them overnight. Several people who were arrested and spoke to NBC News on Tuesday, however, blamed the police for overreacting to the protesters.

One of the people arrested for refusing to disperse, Kyle Niere, 23, told NBC News by phone on Tuesday that he was dragged from his truck by law enforcement officers as he was trying to drive away from the protests.

“They drug us all out,” said Niere, who said he lives in Ferguson and was among a group of 12 people arrested. “Face-first on the ground, stepping on the back of our heads. They’re being brutal for no reason. None of us were violent. We were just there.”

So, you’ve got someone trying to drive away from the area, and the police stopped the vehicle, pulled the person out, and then arrested them in a rather brutal fashion.

But the right wingers will say there isn’t police brutality, the community brought it on itself, etc.

There is no justification for the police actions here.

This must be addressed, not just in Ferguson but all police agencies. Media should be holding them accountable. They should be pressing local governments to be more accountable.

One of the easiest ways to make that happen? Instead of spending money on armored vehicles that are best prepared for military combat, buy cameras for all officers, the gear necessary to archive those daily encounters, and improve training and community relations. It’ll save the municipalities a bunch in the long term, and can help prevent volatile situations from getting out of hand.

(And for those who want to follow the money, the company that makes tasers also happens to make LEO cameras, and their stock price is surging because of interest in both nonlethal weapons and the cameras) [and for full disclosure, I do not have any position in the company or stock interest.]

The Highway Patrol captain in charge of security in Ferguson, Missouri, expressed hope Tuesday that peaceful protesters would stay home and allow authorities to deal with “those who have been ruining our community.”

Capt. Ron Johnson, who grew up in the area, spoke after a chaotic night in which 78 people were arrested and two people were hit by gunfire. In an interview with MSNBC, he drew a distinction between peaceful protesters upset about the police killing of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, and criminals who are taking advantage of the protests to loot stores and attack officers.

“Today my hope is the peaceful protesters will stay home and protest during the daytime and stay home at night and let us take those who have been ruining our community and take them and deal with them,” he said. He praised police for their restraint late Monday and early Tuesday. He also faulted some members of the media for glamorizing violent criminals and giving them a platform.

It might be good to know this and expose them or keep some kind of record of them for future reference. Who they are, what their group claims as their philosophy, etc. I don’t get what they’re trying to accomplish here at all. How does escalating the violence in mostly minority community solve a thing? All it’s doing is feeding the racists’ hatred. Like the bastards need help. Sigh.

The city has pledged to help increase black applicants to the county’s police academy, raise funds to secure dash and vest cameras, develop programs and incentives to encourage residency of police officers in Ferguson, work with schools to engage young people and provide resources for growth, and rebuild the West Florissant business district.

I was actually referring to the so called “anarchists” and “revolutionaries” that show up to protests (notice they never show up and try to fuck up a tea party gathering or a wingnut festival of fucktitude) to try and instigate violence. I remember a group called Black Bloc that breaks windows and vandalizes property (setting cars on fire, shit like that) and basically hijacks the initial reason for the protest in the first place. Thus discrediting what might have been a seriously legit reason to stand up and fight back, like the people of Ferguson are trying to do. It would be nice to put names, faces and group affiliation together somehow so when this shit happens there’s a way to ID the assholes and separate them out from people trying to do the right thing.

She wasn’t a witness to the incident. She’s at best repeating what Wilson said happened, and that’s a version of events that would have been part of the FPD investigation, so of course the versions would match.

The problem, of course, is that the eyewitnesses, some of whom the FPD didn’t interview, tell a different story - one that showed Wilson out of control and who extrajudically killed Brown.

Been watching from the sidelines the last few days…I have nothing to say about any of this because as you say it is surreal. Sometimes bad comedy, sometimes sad commentary. And everyone is a part of it all.

Makes me wonder how much of all of this has been amped up due to all the social media and smart phone images. People can be a player in an instant, get in some images and be seen all around the world.

You have all of the bullshit twitter experts that the media actually reports and then finds out they are clowns. Again…no fact checking because they don’t want facts, they want hits/viewers and real facts just seem to be too boring to the masses. Or, something.

I saw someone in one of the other threads mentioning this is all is a bit like the Euro Maiden demonstrations. Maybe to a degree, but some of the people in Ferguson are play acting in my opinion. And if true that sucks as it belittles the whole reason the real people in Ferguson are protesting…the heavy hand of the law and the unjustified shooting (murder) of the young man that all of this is based on.

This is one hell of a social study though. I’m just not real sure what it all says. I think I may be scared of what it says.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe we’ve ever even heard the Officer Wilson version at all, so it seems disingenuous for them to be claiming that ” Josie,” who supposedly heard it from Wilson’s girlfriend (which would make it hearsay of hearsay, right?) is corroborating anything.

Well in one of the early press conferences with Chief Jackson he did say he was hit in the face and treated for injuries. So it’s not completely out of the blue, but yeah, I would suspect facial fractures to have been mentioned much sooner. It is still just Jim Hoft though, so I am going to go with BS until someone credible reports it.

Pulling a theory out of my ass: Maybe a day or two later, his boss got angry at him for doing something that would bring all those TV cameras to town and expose them for the fuckups they are, angry that they had to find money for the IT expert to scrub his net presence, angry that the governor and the Highway Patrol and everybody else is getting up in their business, and boss punched him. Then somebody said hey, can we act like this injury is from the other day?

Police Chief Thomas Jackson told a news conference on Wednesday the officer was treated in hospital for swelling on the side of his face.

That was before they ever identified the officer as Wilson.

(KTVI) - Authorities are responding to a report of an officer involved shooting in north St. Louis. It happened just before 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mclaren and Riverview outside a market. Authorities say a man walked into a store and showed a knife.

The store owner says he got into a dispute with the man.

Police were called but the suspect refused to put down the weapon. He tried to attack police and was shot and killed.

According to one wingnut I’ve been “discussing” the case with, all the eyewitnesses are liars because they said Brown looked like he got shot in the back, but “Josie” is closer to the truth because she said Brown charged and all the shots are to Brown’s front. That every eyewitness who’s come forward is repeating “rumors” and weren’t really there, but “Josie” relaying what she heard from Wilson’s girlfriend is enough reason to believe that the cop was firing in self-defense.

But he’s trying to convince me that he also is keeping an “open mind” and still thinks the shooting was wrong, even though he seems to be setting himself up to declare Wilson in the right.

Not true. Witnesses do indicate that there was some kind of struggle at the vehicle before Brown ran with Wilson in pursuit (and firing). The witnesses differ from the police accounts in that Wilson was trying to pull Brown into the vehicle, Brown ran, and otherwise tried to surrender while being shot multiple times by Wilson.

As I suspected as soon as I read it, the implications of her tweet are not borne out by verifiable facts. My speculation: these dozen or so “witnesses” she was tipped off about by her police source are NOT EYEWITNESSES to the shooting. Rather, they are a dozen or more people who have all heard Darren Wilson’s version of the events, and all are therefore hearsay witnesses. all leading back to Wilson as the sole source.

Meanwhile, her uncorroborated, unverified claim is posted on multiple websites as fact, and Jake Tapper himself RTed her explosive claim into the Internet, presumably without performing any of the elementary fact-checking I have performed for this blog post.

There’s nothing to those “accounts” corroborating the Wilson version of events because they’re not witnesses to the event. They’re simply looking at whatever Wilson provided to investigators, and they’re simply agreeing with it.

This is journalistic malpractice, and Tapper’s hardly alone in this. Other outlets are giving the “Josie” version equal footing with known eyewitnesses who have a different (but consistent with each other witnesses, video, and physical evidence such as we are able to glean from video/autopsies, etc.).

Feral Girl was in rare form last night. We take the dogs outside on a Flexi Leash as we do not have a fence. Each dog has a specific color Flexi, so I am less confused when they are all in my hand.

Yes, I can handle three Flexis in my hand at once.

FG stole HER Flexi and started to chew it before I caught her. I chastized her and gave her an appropriate chew toy. Rinse. Repeat.

She stole it a 3rd time and my son caught her. This time it was FUBAR.

Now, I wasn’t actually too displeased because she’s been pretty tame and such misbehavior is actually a sign she is transitioning into a civilized dog. I was also happy to know she is smart enough to have learned which Flexi is the one we use for her.

Then, the little gray cells started to light-up in my own head. She is pretty sensitive about her neck. Not knowing her history exactly, we make a point of not pulling too much on the leash etc.

So, I thought perhaps, she dislikes the leash because it hurts to have her collar pulled at all. Today I purchased a harness for her. We shall see how that works.

Dog to human communication is as difficult as Toddler to Adult communication.

Violence against women was the universal constant of the slave trade (both Islamic and Christian) in the 16th and 17th centuries.

A friend of mine with the last name of Mozingo found recently her first ancestor in America was an African slave who married a white woman in Virgina in the late 1600’s. By the time of the Revolution, Mozingo family members were all listed as white in county census records.

However, African slave women and Catholic Irish slave women (often kidnapped during Cromwell’s administration) were subject to repeated rape, forced breeding programs and vile conditions that are unimaginable today. African slave women raped by white masters, and Irish slave women (often nuns forced from cloisters by anti-Catholic forces) raped by pretty much anybody, including other slaves.

Horrible, horrible stuff.

There are several documented accounts of young Gaelic speaking “black” children in Barbados in the 1700’s meeting Irish sailers for the first time and remarking that “white Irishmen” sure looked funny, since they considered themselves to be Irish. Rightfully so, I think.

A maybe slightly Ferguson-relevant point about terminology. Where did this “bum rush” thingie come from? A couple of kinky Brit possibilities come to mind, but as far as I know, in America it’s always been “bum’s rush” and always referred to something like throwing an unruly or unwelcome patron out of a venue such as a bar. The action of violently charging at another person, on the other hand, has long been described as a “bull rush,” as in a linebacker’s approach to a quarterback setting up to pass. So whence “bum rush,” and why do all the cop-supportive claims surrounding Wilson seem to echo this phrase?
