Ann Coulter Takes Jim Hoft’s Misleading Bait, Says “We Saw X-Ray of Wilson’s Fractured Eye Socket”

Spreading lies to the right wing audience again
Wingnuts • Views: 41,437

As I pointed out on Tuesday in this article, far right blogger Jim Hoft apparently deliberately tried to mislead his readers into believing that a random example image of a CT scan he posted was actually an image of Darren Wilson’s purportedly fractured eye socket. Hoft erased the words “UNIV OF IOWA” from the image he posted, and his text did not make it clear it wasn’t Wilson’s CT scan:

Original example CT scan (L), compared to altered image posted by Jim Hoft (R)

And guess who took Hoft’s misleading bait, and is now promoting this false claim as a “fact” to her enormous audience of right wing readers? Would you believe… Ann Coulter? Ann Coulter - August 20, 2014 - NO FACTS, NO PEACE.

This week, we saw the X-ray of Officer Wilson’s fractured eye socket.

No, Ann, you did not. You saw a CT scan of an unnamed child with a fractured eye socket, posted years ago at numerous medical websites, scrubbed of its identifying information by Jim Hoft.

The rest of Coulter’s piece is her usual race-baiting rubbish, but this is another case study in how false information spreads through the right wing universe.

Dim Jim’s praising removed any doubt that maybe he included the photo as an example of what an orbital fracture might look like. He really intended for people to believe it was legit.

5 lawhawk  Aug 21, 2014 11:47:23am

Hoft pulls the scan from the AAPOS page, down to the use of the Figure 2 in the lower left corner. Forget even the attempted scrawl over the University of Iowa to obfuscate the origin. Hoft couldn’t be bothered with those kinds of details.

He’s out to lie and malign Brown, who can’t speak for himself because Wilson shot him dead. So he’s out there claiming all kinds of things about Wilson having been seriously injured with a blowout fracture.

Yet Wilson managed to hit Brown with six shots including head shots. That’s not something you’d expect from someone just nearly knocked unconscious and who has a blowout fracture.

It’s then no surprise that it’s picked up by the right wing echo chamber. They buy into this nonsense 100%, without even the slightest bit of skepticism. Because there’s no repercussions if they’re wrong. They just move on to the next grievance/outrage.

Hell, if the officer was even the slightest bit woozy, we would be looking at a reckless shooting. He wouldn’t be able to aim and hit his target if he got “MMA Super Punched”.

Or maybe he pulled from the power of Zimmerman, and was able to shoot Mike Brown

It’s why I laugh at conservatives when they claim to be anti-big government. No, you guys have a problem with who runs the executive branch and until 2010 who was the majority party in the executive branch. It’s like that conversation that was being had about Republicans and debts we had the other night. Conservatives and Republicans don’t give two shits about the deficit when they’re in power. They get “concerned” when a Democrat gets elected.

So more leaks of evidence beneficial to Wilson and his potential defense. More hearsay (the friend says that Wilson has a fracture, etc.).

But no official confirmation on anything let alone the police report.

At the same time, you’ve got this going on:

The hospital X-rays of the injury have been submitted to the St. Louis County prosecuting attorney, and will be shared with a grand jury now weighing evidence to determine if Officer Darren Wilson should be charged in the shooting.

Confirmed details regarding Wilson’s condition after Brown was shot have been scarce. Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson said last week that Wilson had a “swollen face” after the altercation. He also said Wilson had to be taken to a hospital for treatment, but he did not elaborate on his injuries beyond saying they were not life-threatening.

On Wednesday night, Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III told Fox News that he could not confirm reports that Wilson suffered a fractured eye bone. The office of Robert McCulloch, the St. Louis County special prosecutor, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday.

A day after Brown was shot, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Bellmar told reporters that Brown “allegedly pushed” Wilson back into the car and physically assaulted him, but he did not elaborate.

Allegedly pushed? That’s not a punch. A push is sufficient for a physical assault.

There’s no official confirmation, only further leaks claiming that there was a fracture and the report has been given to the grand jury.

Ferguson riots have very little to do with the shooting of the young man. It is an excuse to be the losers these animals truly are. It is a tipping point to frustration built up over years of not trying, but blaming everyone else, The Man, for their failures. It’s always someone else’s fault when you give up. Hopefully this is a reminder to the African Americans ( I always thought we just Americans. Oh, well.) that their President the voted in has only made things worse for them, not better.

35 Ryan King  Aug 21, 2014 12:02:24pm

I’ve seen LGF’s story about Dim’s lie posted everywhere. Makes a Lizard proud.

Assuming Wilson did get some kind of eye injury, serious or benign… let’s assume that was an offensive effort by Brown, who did strike Wilson.

This is no way justifies Wilson firing at Brown as Brown is running away.

It also provides motive for Wilson to shoot at Brown running away, angry that Brown struck him… if he actually did.

Brown could have struck Wilson in the head with his own head, and inadvertent head butt…. all kinds of things could have happened.

The point is, it does not provide justification. But it provides motive for Wilson to make an unjustified shooting.

That’s actually typical. It’s more unusual for a grand jury to unseal its investigation. The records will remain sealed until indictments are handed down (if any). Then, the only way you might see what was in them is if there’s a federal case or civil case, and they have to be handed over to the family (civil) or the DOJ uses them as part of their case or the FPD/Wilson use them as a defense (federal).

However, Michael Baden’s autopsy showed no signs of a struggle on Brown’s body. If he had struck Wilson with his bare hand hard enough to fracture his eye socket, there would almost certainly have been bruising visible to an autopsy examiner.

If Wilson did receive this injury (and I’m still skeptical about it), there are other ways it could have happened besides being punched by Michael Brown.

Witnesses have claimed that Wilson tried to open the door, but it snapped back shut. That could have hit Wilson in such a way as to cause the injuries. Without any video of that part of the incident, there’s no way to know for sure.

Heck, even when you have all the video, there’s some events that don’t make sense, and the police tell a different tale than what the video says (the shooting yesterday in STL that was caught on tape differs greatly from what the police report states).

Yes, I thought of that and agree with your second point.

But if the wingnuts go all in on this point, and Brown did ‘strike,’ it provides motive for Wilson to be enraged and shoot at Brown running away from him.

According to witnesses, Wilson said ‘Get the fuck on the sidewalk’ or some aggressive statement to start this whole ordeal.

Yeah it always makes me laugh when it’s claimed that conservative actors are “blacklisted” in Hollywood when it’s so easy to demonstrate otherwise and let’s not even forget that conservatives actually did support real blacklisting in the 50’s and their behavior to the Dixie Chicks. The chief also addressed speculation about the ethnicity of the officer who shot Taylor, saying the officer is not white. Taylor’s brother, Jerrail Taylor, raised issues last week about racial profiling. He said his brother was Hispanic.

deseretnews.com

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah)- Tuesday, we learned more information about the officer-involved shooting in South Salt Lake that killed 20-year-old Dillon Taylor.

Salt Lake City’s Police Chief says that shooting just doesn’t compare to the rising tensions in Ferguson, Missouri where 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed by police.

Chief Burbank spoke with the media for about an hour in what wasn’t a presser but a question and answer session. He says dialogue is what’s missing between police departments and communities across the nation.

These scenes from Ferguson, Missouri would be the opposite of what Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank would call good community policing.

“If we show up wearing riot gear it says throw rocks and boulders at us,” said Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank.

Chief Burbank says Salt Lake City is not Ferguson. And he’s handling the officer-involved shooting that lead to 20-year-old Dillon Taylor’s death much differently than Ferguson Police.

If my head gets hit, it’s the top of the head smacking the frame as I start to stand up.
The logistical aspects of Wilson getting hit in the face with the door (without his legs getting in the way) seem overly convoluted.

Reports say that the SUV door opened and either it bounced off Brown or Brown pushed it back shut. If Wilson was getting ready to exit the vehicle and the door sprang back hard, that could have given him a nice shiner.

Did you catch this disgusting piece of derp from the same article?

During the Q&A, Burbank reiterated his opposition to a new ordinance proposed by the Salt Lake City Council that would require city investigators to submit for analysis all rape kits gathered from victims after a reported sexual assault.

“It’s an undue burden on the taxpayers,” Burbank said. “If someone is arrested for committing a sexual assault in this state, the law requires that their DNA be taken and entered into a database. Now why, if that’s occurring, would I [duplicate] that process and run a rape kit?”

Councilman Kyle LaMalfa has criticized the department for failing to analyze 788 of 1,001 rape kits collected between 2003 and 2011, and has said the ordinance would help to successfully prosecute more sexual assaults.

“The sense among the policymakers is that we’ve waited long enough,” LaMalfa said last week.

But Burbank said analyzing every rape kit would sacrifice the department’s ability to investigate other crimes such as homicides and robberies.

You know what was kind of neat for me? I was in high school Bush’s first term. Those of us favoring gay marriage while not a huge minority were a minority. I remember that when we debated the issue in political science class that there was a guy who was very much against SSM and very socially conservative. We got along politics aside so we are FB friends. Saw a year or so back him post the Buzzfeed article about how the USSC overturning DOMA has zero effect on marriages between men and women. That was cool. I like to think that my shrill liberalism senior year may have changed some minds heh because I was very obonxious that year but never a jerk to people I disagreed with about it but as I said I was shrill since I know my government teacher referred to me as annoying liberal to some of his other classes. re: #58 Charles Johnson

Heh. You should get in the habit of checking the navigation panel just above the posting form — if there’s a new post it will show up on the right side of that panel.

I try to. But I also get into a thread and try to go through it so I am not repeating a comment or posting something that has been posted, etc. I notice that a lot of stuff gets repeated especially evening to morning.

That also means people don’t get to see comments that were pretty good on an original post of the same subject. I find that sad in a way, as people might be missing some good content and the work some put into those comments. So, I try to read it all…and that is my downfall.

I just want to be a good citizen and give everyone’s comments attention. I hope you understand. I can be old fashioned that way. I feel sometimes people miss some good stuff.

Why should a great thread die especially on a topic that is ongoing in the news, etc.? Of course, you might not want a thread to grow so big it is cumbersome due to your setup.

Some classic forum software solves that with multiple pages allowing you to go to the newer pages to catch up. Could you somehow set up a thread into page sections so you don’t have to scroll so far up and down if you are like me, always behind due to what I said above? Maybe a page could be 100 comments per page or so. Therefor a huge discussion with 600 comments could be six page sections. Then if you want to get back to an old thread you could go to the last page and get caught up.

And that way, I might get to the bottom of a thread to see a new one has been created!

Anyway…back to work.

You’re just going to have to get up earlier.

As if there has ever been a chance of Wilson being brought to trial. The fix has been in since Michael Brown bled out in the street.

Well I mean the nuts in the blogosphere. The swollen orbital socket has been shown to be a lie but now they’ll keep on trucking. THe only hope for any justice for Michael and his family is if the feds get involved and that will result in Phase II by Hoft which will be to complain about the feds getting involved.

Father of the Year, Florida Man edition:

Police arrested a Florida man who was beaten bloody by fellow bar patrons after they learned he left his three children in the car to drink beer.

Officers found 28-year-old Joshua Delong bleeding on the floor of Dr. B’s Bar in Ocala after a security guard called police to report the children left attended outside, reported WESH-TV.

re: #51 Pie-onist Overlord

Uh, when people move to another district and their names remain on the rolls in their previous district THAT IS NOT VOTER FRAUD.

My kids are still on the voter rolls for my address even though they all moved away years ago, and their names can’t be removed UNLESS THE REGISTRAR RECEIVES A NOTARIZED REQUEST.

[Embedded content]

I got the first comment there lol…

When you move your residence your name remains on the rolls of the district you moved from, in some states it takes a notarized written request to have your name removed. Most people don’t bother and end up registered in more than one district until their old registration expires as inactive.

This is not an indication of voting fraud, casting a vote in your own name in two different districts would be illegal, easily checked for, and incredibly stupid. Is there any indication at all that these duplicate registrations have ever been used to cast more than one vote in an election?

The answer to that will be NO of course, so this is really just much a do about nothing.

For what it’s worth, I also read all the comments before I post when, say, I get up in the morning.

Which since I live on the West Coast is actually afternoon for the East Coast Lizards.

I do draw the line at reading all the comments from when I’ve been on vacation though.

FWI, I do the same thing.
If it’s been a particularly busy night while I slept, it can take a couple hours or so before I catch up.

If he’s broken hearted then he should come out of hiding and stop hiding behind anonymous sources.

Do we really know that these “anonymous sources” are getting their stuff from Wilson? Rather than, say, from below the belt and dorsal? Or thin air?

It’s not as if these sources are unimpeachable witnesses who just relay what Wilson said. Since we don’t know who they are, we don’t know much about how honest they are.

re: #179 Lidane

I’d happily take even odds, let alone heavy odds such as 10-1, that Wilson will be charged with manslaughter or more, by Missouri authorities. And that the case will go to trial.

“Fixes” are not so easy to arrange, especially a fix that doesn’t get to play with the trial itself, but kicks in before trial.
