CNN Reports #Ferguson PD Officer Darren Wilson DID NOT Have a Fractured Eye Socket

Imagine my surprise
US News • Views: 59,205

For the past couple of days, I’ve been pointing out the numerous problems in Jim Hoft’s anonymously sourced claim that Ferguson PD officer Darren Wilson suffered a fractured eye socket in a purported struggle with teenager Michael Brown, and now CNN is reporting that sources close to the investigation have told them this story is completely false:

Jim Hoft’s claims made it all the way to Fox News, I should note. Will this finally wake people up to the fact that Hoft is a serial liar?

UPDATE at 8/21/14 1:52:52 pm by Charles Johnson

Here’s the video clip of the announcement on CNN:

UPDATE at 8/21/14 1:56:22 pm by Charles Johnson

As I pointed out in this article, Jim Hoft wrote that his source for the claim about the fractured eye socket was the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s office. I’ve emailed the prosecutor’s office asking them for comment on Hoft’s claim, and will post if I receive a reply.

Tell that conservative that it’s no way his X-Rays. For one, if he was that injured, he would be undergoing treatment, and any physician/hospital that releases that info would be sued and charged under HIPPA. And anybody who aids in this would also be liable for lawsuits as well for violation of privacy.

That’s the only theory that fits the facts. Wilson probably brained himself on the door, got pissed and decided he was going to take it out on Brown, and things escalated from there.

I just saw a tweet that said something to the effect of: “doesn’t matter. He had a swollen face. That’s all I need to know.”

Cause a cop swelling = capital offense.

(Not that we even have confirmation that Brown caused the swelling.)

Well that and we don’t even know how he got the swelling. But yeah if you think a swelling gives a cop the right to fire on you……..then I don’t want you complaining at all about “big government” because you’re accepting excessive force.

Of course, now will begin the attempts to argue that Brown could have beaten Wilson’s face enough to cause swelling without signs of such on his hands. I don’t buy it for a second, but you know it’s coming.

In the press conference where Chief Jackson said that the officer’s face was swollen, he didn’t even know which side of the face. Apparently the swelling was not memorable enough to make an impression on the chief.

wanted to add this officer has been in the news concerning the VA.
ksdk.com

“I got injured over the course of both deployments. I was injured by three IED’s in 2006 and two in 2007,” Weston said.

Now he serves as a police officer. When his vision didn’t seem right, he called to get a base line eye exam at the VA. They told him it would take 7 months.

“The VA employee I spoke with told me it wasn’t her problem, it wasn’t her fault and there were too many people requesting eye exams,” Weston explained.

I really have to wonder if guys just coming back from oversea rotation are really up to be police.

What do you mean FAIL? Jim had the actual x-rays of Wilson’s head, and Dana Loesch and Ann Coulter back him up.

You can’t dispute that!

61 lawhawk  Aug 21, 2014 1:32:16pm

All this back and forth would have been settled days ago, and before days of riots, had the Ferguson PD and St. Louis County PD published the report of the encounter.

Instead, we get nitwits like Hoft poison the conversation with bogus claims about orbital blowout fractures, leaks from the prosecutor’s office (claiming that Wilson was knocked nearly unconscious by Brown), etc., and yet the official statements from the FPD undermine all the leaks.

The best way to deal with these kinds of incidents is to provide open and prompt information. Withholding it only causes more problems - for prosecutors, investigators, and can potentially undermine any prosecutions that might come from cases like this. Maybe that’s what some law enforcement officers want since they want the latitude to be the final word on what happens on a stop, but that’s not justice. That’s a perversion of justice.

Fact: The use of force is justified if you believe your life is in danger or you are facing a person intent on doing you bodily harm.

Brown was a monster of a man, 6 feet 4 inches, 290 pounds. What would you do if a giant thug came charging at you in an attempt to run you over, knock you down and take your gun? Wouldn’t you believe your life was in danger if the man charging you had already punched you in the face and, as x-rays now prove, and broken your eye socket?

Fact: There are now a dozen witnesses who corroborate Officer Darren Wilson’s account of the story.

Timing is everything.

To be accurate, CNN removed that from the iReport section, which is where users can upload anything.

Anything in the iReport section should be taken as questionable until verified, which CNN does actually do before running items from there on air. (They’ll also mark the report as verified by a CNN producer once that has happened.)

I think the iReport section is shit, but CNN isn’t just running anything from there without verification, and did the proper thing once the report was brought to their attention.

I’m not sure I blame them for this move, I saw the crowd toss rocks at Chris Hayes and Craig Melvin. People were pissed off and the police weren’t exactly exempting journalists either. MSNBC choosing to protect their staff was smart and totally justifiable.

This is what drought looks like.

One of my favorite fishing holes, Irvine Lake, looks a lot like the ones in the pictures. Back in 2010 (or around there) the lake was so full there was no real shoreline to fish, water even went over the dam due to heavy rains.

We used to fish this one area, in a part of the lake called “The Flats” where the water had mostly submerged a lot of scrub and trees (made for awesome catfishing) and there’s a spot called “Trout Island” that we used to drive our boats OVER.

Now all that water is gone. Granted it’s a private lake, they buy and sell water but won’t be buying any for the foreseeable future and are basically counting on rain to fill the lake back up. You can literally see where the waterline was and it looks just like those pics.

This assumes they’re going to investigate anything.

Ferguson PD has made it clear they’re going to help their buddy skate by on murder. There won’t be a real investigation at all, especially if the source of the ZOMG BROKEN EYEBALL malarkey was the prosecutor’s office.

It was > < close to death porn. I was so affected by it, it not only drove me to tears but put me into a pretty good bout of depression.

The guy who was filming it was laughing at the start, because the guy who was killed was behaving in a really whacky way. Then the cops came and within seconds of their arrival shot this very obviously mentally disturbed guy 12 times from a good 6 feet away. I mean, really, there was nothing else that could have been done? Then, they handcuffed his freaking corpse.

Steve King has an opinion, y’all:

Well, and that’s something, seems to be I’m constantly in the middle of all of that. But the reason that I do step up and say these things, Jan, is because I think first of all we’re a nation that is partially, at least our culture and civilization was built on a number of things but it was certainly built on reason and our ability to reason. And it emerged through our culture and civilization through the Greeks all across western Europe here to this continent. And if we had not developed a foundational civilization that’s rooted in our faith and in our work ethic, in our morality and in our ability to reason we couldn’t have ever developed science and technology, we couldn’t have had a rational basis to do the things that we do. And so if this society is going to reject reason, and move towards an irrational society — by the way, it’s irrational what’s happening down in Ferguson, Mo. It’s irrational. Even if their allegation is true, and the cop is innocent until proven guilty.

Except if the claim really did come from McCullough’s office it’s official corruption, the kind of thing that could hypothetically get him disbarred if it happened with his approval. One wonders what aspect of the “LGF narrative” is susceptible to change.

The main focus here has been on the malfeasance by FPD et al., about which there is no doubt at all.

Not many are making arguments that depend on precise details of the shooting incident itself.

She is suing and has family support. I hope she finds justice.

She was in the hospital for something like three or four WEEKS. Hospitals do everything in their power to get you out - so her being there for so long is indicative of the severity of her injuries. She still slurs even now.

I hate to say this, because I really don’t like the whole food chain thing, but women are almost always below men in reporting like this. I think the woman in the Detroit suburbs getting shot by the old guy who shot her as she was knocking for help was big news because it was kind of on the heels of Zimmerman. Had it not been for that, I doubt she would have made the news at all.

Agencies, like the one for which I volunteer, work for justice for these woman. There are resources and the law is on our side, but woman have been beaten down and conditioned for so long — they just don’t believe the can find justice.

ESPECIALLY minority and immigrant women.

The statistics we see are just what is reported. Women don’t talk about it, even to each other often and VERY RARELY to the men they know. It is a common topic of conversation.

As a result, many of the woman you know —even your spouse, sister or co-worker may be survivors.

My g-grandson is starting Pre-K next week, and we’re excited about that. : ) I’ll no doubt be kept a bit busy learning the ropes of having a kid in school these days myself. His dad is working nights, has to be at work by 5 pm and then doesn’t get home until around 6 am, and has to sleep most of the day. It’s tough on him and g-gson both, since they only have a couple of hrs a day to spend w/each other. Even his “off days” are consumed with getting enough rest, since getting up early would knock him off his schedule, so he stays up to keep from being sleep deprived later, since they’re never 2 days in a row, and it’s a driving job with trips to TN, SC, GA and parts of NC. Still, there are rules in place to prevent the change from becoming problematic. For example, drinking alcohol is prohibited before shooting. Shooting is not allowed in the 24 hours after buying a beer at the range, as well.

“When they are done and they are talking about how the day went, just like at a golf course, they like to sit around and talk about how they shot. Have a bowl of popcorn and have a beer,” Bench said.

Employees with the Huntsville gas company said they were testing liquid nitrogen when the hydrogen tank exploded at approximately 2:30 p.m. Emergency crews found debris flooded the parking lot. In fact, shrapnel landed all over the neighborhood.

264 simoom  Aug 21, 2014 3:47:00pm

On Hannity’s Radio show, from today, he uses the Hoft “eye socket fracture” claim as an explanation for the number of bullets Wilson fired:

mediaite.com

Smith: “I understand your argument, but can you honestly say it would have taken six bullets to stop him if he’s unarmed?”

Hannity: “You asked a question, let me answer it. You know I’ve been a pistol marksman since I was 12 years old, right?”

Smith: “Yeah, I do. And now you’re a martial artist.”

Hannity: “Yeah, that’s right.”

Smith: “Go ahead.”

Hannity: “And you know I have a liscense to carry in New York. I had one in California, Rhode Island, Alabama and Georgia. I’ve carried a weapon more than half my life. You know that, right?”

Smith: “OK. Yup.”

Hannity: “At first I had a hard time understanding the six shots. Now, you — what most people — and I tell you that I don’t think the police officer trained well enough — I would tell you, that if he had an injury. An orbital eye-socket fracture. That, to me, explains hitting him three times in the arm, and once in another spot, before he could ultimately stop Michael Brown, who is a pretty big kid, from coming at him. Because I can tell you that not only does he have the issue of adrenaline running through his system, that could really screw up your shooting. Now he has an eye problem. That could doubly screw up your shooting. So my answer is that.

McCullough’s base of political support is the police unions and law and order voters. He’s afraid to be seen by the cops as abandoning one of their own and allowing a much more zealous special prosecutor to step in. DA’s are generally vulnerable on their right.

I believe in law and order.

I’m not seeing either in MO.

Republicans are such bigoted trash:

Anonymous users operating from the Republican-led House were persistently re-editing the page to slur trans actress Laverne Cox by mis-gendering her mentions on the show’s page. For instance, they changed Cox’s description from “real transgender woman” to “real man pretending to be a woman.”

“An obvious transphobe is using this IP to edit the article on transphobia,” the Hill quoted one Wikipedia user as saying.

“I have no problem with Congressional staffers editing Wikipedia,” said another user to the anti-trans editor. “I have a problem only with YOU vandalizing Wikipedia.”

The person using the IP address responded — without revealing their identity — that the malicious edits were in fact “official business” endorsed by a member of the House. Their changes, they said, were intended to bring “fairness” to the discussion.

re: #349 wrenchwench

The report date is the 9th at 12:43pm.

The shooting is listed as occurring at 12:02pm.

Now, we can ask why it took them until the 19th to enter it (the 8/19 date). And we can also ask why it took Ferguson 30 minutes to call for an investigator from a separate police department.

353 Swift2991  Aug 21, 2014 5:05:33pm

This makes it ever more clear that the Ferguson police department contains a bunch of very nasty people who despise the people they’re supposed to be protecting. I doubt if this officer will ever be punished, though. And even if he is, that’s not what needs to happen — though it’s a start. What needs to happen that there’s more than 6% turnout in the next municipal elections in Ferguson, and a reform slate has to be elected. The Ferguson police department needs some serious retooling. The truth is hardly ever apocalyptic; it’s hard work.

“Homicide” means “intentional killing,” which is certainly is. That doesn’t mean it’s murder, or manslaughter, or negligent homicide, or a justifiable homicide.

Night Lizards. Sleep well and may the Deity of your choice smile/sneer down upon you as the case may be.

Haven’t checked to see if anyone else mentioned this, but tonight’s Inside the Actor’s Studio is the Robin Williams episode in case anyone is interested (it was great!)

It was epic. Was waiting for the replay. Thanks for the heads up.

re: #336 b.d.

I bet you Dobbs got confused. That makes sense, Dobbs saw the Baden said something about an eyeball and assumed it was about the shooter cop.

What a pompous dumbass.

I believe it is supposed to be two separate stories:

Same old Fox story of Wilson’s eye socket injury they have been pushing since it was first brought up yesterday evening.

Dr. Baden will be discussing the criminal investigation (as in what the autopsy evidence adds/removes from case).

Can’t always be as clear as you would like to be in 140 characters…

This makes it ever more clear that the Ferguson police department contains a bunch of very nasty people who despise the people they’re supposed to be protecting. I doubt if this officer will ever be punished, though. And even if he is, that’s not what needs to happen — though it’s a start. What needs to happen that there’s more than 6% turnout in the next municipal elections in Ferguson, and a reform slate has to be elected. The Ferguson police department needs some serious retooling. Antonio French is opening up an office. I have hope for the turnout in the future.

Good grief. Two unnamed sources now?? Does anyone have the cojones to go on the record?

I don’t like unnamed sources either, but there’s a huge difference between an unnamed source on CNN and an unnamed sourced from serial liar Jim Hoft. CNN gets the benefit of the doubt. Jim Hoft should always be assumed to be lying.
