“Josie” Story of Brown Shooting Lifted From Fake Facebook Page - See Updated Timeline Below

Not even hard to prove
US News • Views: 53,756

I posted this in the comments on another thread, but I think it needs repeating. The anonymous caller “Josie”, who supposedly gave Officer Wilson’s version of the story was very obviously just repeating a Facebook post. A Facebook post that even breitbart.com admits is a Hoax. Compare for yourself.

Here is the Facebook post:
breitbart.com

my friends and family have been afraid to put out what really happened due to the severe threats.but here is the truth of what happened. as much as i can tell you at this point.

they were walking in the middle of the street. i pulled my vehicle up, rolled my window down and told them to get out of the street. they refused an yelled back cussing - saying they were already almost where they are going.

i pulled further up and over. i was watching them and at that point i got the call in that there was a strong arm robbery. the description they gave was the same as the two and they had something in their hand that looked like it could be the cigars.

i backed my car up and tried to get out of my car, but they slammed my door shut to prevent me from getting out. i started to get out again and stood up, but michael came and started to shove me back in to the car. he started punching me in the face and at that point i grabbed for my gun

michael grabbed for the gun. he got the gun entirely turned against his hip. the gun goes off after it is shoved. michael took off and got to be about 35 ft away

my first protocol is to pursue, so i yell “freeze” , michael and his friend turn around. michael taunts and yells saying “what are you gonna do about it” stuff like that. And next he started bumrushing me. he just started coming at me at full speed so i started shooting. he kept coming. i definitely think the toxicology report will show that he was not right and under the influence of something

this is my account of what happened (at least, what I can openly share at this point). much of what you will hear on Tv and radio is very inaccurate. i will be deactivating my page shortly so please copy this to share the truth. i appreciate your support - especially from my police family

Here is Josie’s account:
eaglerising.com

“He pulled up ahead of them. And then he got a call-in that there was a strong-arm robbery. And, they gave a description. And, he’s looking at them and they got something in their hands and it looks like it could be what, you know those cigars or whatever. So he goes in reverse back to them. Tries to get out of his car. They slam his door shut violently. I think he said Michael did. And, then he opened the car again. He tried to get out. He stands up.

And then Michael just bum-rushes him and shoves him back into his car. Punches him in the face and them Darren grabs for his gun. Michael grabbed for the gun. At one point he got the gun entirely turned against his hip. And he shoves it away. And the gun goes off.

Well, then Michael takes off and gets to be about 35 feet away. And, Darren’s first protocol is to pursue. So, he stands up and yells, “Freeze!” Michael and his friend turn around. And Michael taunts him… And then all the sudden he just started bumrushing him. He just started coming at him full speed. And, so he just started shooting. And, he just kept coming. And, so he really thinks he was on something.”

UPDATE at 8/23/14 3:30:03 pm by Charles Johnson

Another interesting bit of very suspicious Facebook action was noted a few days ago by LGF contributor Gus; on August 15th, the day “Josie” called the Dana Loesch show, this was posted on Facebook, early in the morning (it has since been deleted):

Update (Thanks to BeachDem)

8/15 Jill Meadows posts a story on Josie Meadows’ facebook page at 7:29 am
8/15 Josie goes on Dana’s show to spew
8/17 the fake Darren Wilson post goes up

So Josie was just recounting a different Facebook post than I originally thought. Still means that the media is treating Josie’s (at best) third hand account of the shooting as equal to actual witnesses.

And notice Jill Meadows never says where she got her info. Just a cryptic “I believe in my heart for it to be factually true because I know someone very well who was there.”

Well, obviously “Josie” wrote the Facebook page in Wilson’s place, that’s why she repeated it to Dana in exactly the same words.

Confirmation bias seems to be a major issue in the Information Age. People want to believe things so badly, and now that it’s so easy to find evidence that supports your worldview, critical thinking goes out the window.

Infuriating.

Especially when I saw CNN list “Josie” as an alternative “witness” right next to real, actual witnesses. Because an anonymous caller giving a second hand account of a fake Facebook posting is just as good for them as people where were actually there!

The original Facebook post appears unavailable. But the google cache version from Aug 17 shows it was posted “5 hrs” ago, so earlier on Aug 17. The “Josie” interview was on Aug 15.

So did the fake Facebook “Darren Wilson” copy the “Josie” interview instead of the other way round? And Breitbart got the “Sunday” wrong?

re: #41 wrenchwench

Oh yeah, that’s all I’ve heard for days now from wingnuts. How “afraid” Wilson is, how “scared” his friends are of being found out, and how “fearful” his supporters are of being seen spreading his praises in public.

Meanwhile, the people actually protesting peacefully in Brown’s name are getting hit with tear gas, rubber bullets, being arrested for “unlawful assembly,” or watching reporters get roughed up before being released without charge.

45 BongCrodny  Aug 23, 2014 3:03:51pm

Good catch.

Out of curiosity, would a police officer even be allowed to post “his version” of events on Facebook?

Putting aside the fact that the Ferguson PD seems to be made up of a bunch of cretins, I would think that disseminating information like that while there’s an ongoing investigation would be highly frowned upon.

And always remember and don’t ever forget, it’s all Obama’s fault!!!!

Steve Hewkin, who lets 20 properties as low-income housing, blames the government for dumping poor people in the city. “You end up renting to the least worst,” he said. “Obama has destroyed the economy. The jobs are gone. The American dream is gone. These people have no hope and he put them here.”

Hewkin, who said he assumes he’s on a government watch list because he’s a “white Christian gun-owner that believes in liberty”, says he doesn’t regard people who move from outside the city into low-income housing as even being part of Ferguson. “That over there isn’t even our city. People in Ferguson don’t even know they’re there. Listen to those people talk, they’re haters,” he said.

I think they just ran out of characters to finish that sentence.

It probably was to be:

‘We will not hide. We will no longer live in fear of having to hide our outright bigotry and hatred for those shiftless, welfare cheating, jobless, no-good blah people in Ferguson. We are out loud, and proud just like the gays. And we support the FPD in shooting that dangerous thug.

re: #24 Gus

I listened to a short bit of the audio a few days back and with all the um um um in the woman’s speech I just assumed it is the current wife/girlfriend. She sounded as if she was trying to get the words in the right order and had to think about what she was saying. Not like someone repeating what had been heard. Wilson and whoever helped him scrub his info off the Internet went through scenarios trying to set up what could be, in their minds, plausible. I would have thought they would have set up several fake facebook pages, just to have a way to contact others in the circle without seeming any more than what they think of as a profile of someone that uses FB infrequently. I’m so glad I haven’t become cynical about Wilson and his motives. Well any more than I was from the start. If he has facial injuries it must be because someone at the department slammed his face into a wall for being an idiot.

To all of those hanging on to the TPGOP (such as Dark), who tell themselves and others they aren’t racists, bigots, or anti-gov kooks, you’re as much a part of the problem, because you’re either willfully blind and ignorant or you just don’t fucking care because, without the racists, the bigots and the kooks, you’re at a numerical disadvantage.

Apparently he met the description of a suspect in the college. Don’t really have the complete story yet. I guess this means next times there’s an armed suspect in a school in the future cops can only stop the suspect and the suspect only and if they stop someone who isn’t the suspect they get fired or something, something.

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - There were terrifying moments for people on the campus of Cal State San Marcos on Wednesday morning as the university was stormed by law enforcement and temporarily placed on lockdown for more than 30 minutes after reports of a suspicious person armed with a gun on campus.

So it was people who called this in thinking they saw a guy with a gun. Guess next time don’t call the cops. Or something.

Once in college we were doing a play that required a couple of rifles as props. The ROTC was nice enough to let us borrow a couple of their training rifles. They look and feel l like real rifles but don’t actually shoot. Me and a friend went to the rotc building to pick them up and bring them over to the theater building across campus.

One of the campus cops rolled up on us and asked very politely, hey guys, what’s with the rifles. We explained and he was like cool carry on. I can’t even imagine doing something like that now without calling campus police ahead of time and getting it cleared. Different times.

re: #110 Decatur Deb

Is the Hugo award named for him?

Indeed it is:

The Hugo Awards are a set of awards given annually for the best science fiction or fantasy works and achievements of the previous year. The awards are named after Hugo Gernsback, the founder of the pioneering science fiction magazine Amazing Stories, and were officially named the Science Fiction Achievement Awards until 1992. Organized and overseen by the World Science Fiction Society, the awards are given each year at the annual World Science Fiction Convention as the central focus of the event. They were first given in 1953, at the 11th World Science Fiction Convention, and have been awarded every year since 1955. Over the years that the award has been given, the categories presented have changed; currently Hugo Awards are given in more than a dozen categories, and include both written and dramatic works of various types.

Indeed it is:

Here’s a short (couple pages) story by a Hugo nominee of that era. Read it around ‘58:

The Liberation of Earth
William Tenn

This, then, is the story of our liberation. Suck air and grab clusters. Heigh-ho, here is the tale. August was the month, a Tuesday in August. These words are meaningless now, so far have we progressed; but many things known and discussed by our primitive ancestors, our unliberated, unreconstructed forefathers, are devoid of sense to our free minds. Still the tale must be told, with all of its incredible place-names and vanished points of reference.

Why must it be told? Have any of you a better thing to do? We have had water and weeds and lie in a valley of gusts, So rest, relax and listen. And suck air, suck air.

On a Tuesday in August, the ship appeared in the sky over France in a part of the world then known as Europe. Five miles long the ship was, and word has come down to us that it looked like an enormous silver cigar.

That story seriously bothers me at one point (offending portion bolded):

She then double dog dares Hillary Clinton, whom she hates with a frozen tundra iciness, to take the challenge, and also John McCain, presumably because he is old and the shock to his system will probably kill him and then he’ll never be able to finally confess that picking Sarah Palin as his running mate was worst fucking decision anyone has ever made in the history of mankind, and “please forgive me and have mercy upon my soul.”

No. John. We won’t. Stop asking.

Then someone -one of her meth kids probably — hits Sarah with some ice water and she screeches horrifically in a way that will make your testicles retract even if you don’t have them.

Making methaphedemine jokes about Sarah Palin’s children is NOT COOL. Calling someone a drug addict just because of whose child they are is ugly and wrong.

I also dispute that John McCain wouldn’t survive the Ice Bucket Challenge. He’s a pretty tough fellow, he’d do just fine. But he’d have to have someone else pour the bucket due to the injuries he sustained in service to the USA.

Well, according to the article the officer (his last name is Salter) in that case had violated the rules before in the same fashion:

The agency said Salter was disciplined previously for unprofessional conduct and making inappropriate comments.

”These violations demonstrate behavior that is inconsistent” with agency standards, the department said.

Salter comes across as the sort of bully who can’t be a responsible policeman. But in his case, he was being recorded and those recordings proved his bad conduct.

The lesson seems clear to me.

Its not good enough for them to just have vest and dash cams. They have to be uno disable able and the video has to be stored someplace the police do not have access to.

Otherwise, even if Wilson had a dash and vest can, it would have been disabled and of not, the video would have gone missing. I have no doubt about this — these cops are that corrupt.

I’m not going to excuse the behavior I agree with you. But, she is good at using her kids though. And Bristol has joined in the hate, though she is an adult now. If there is money to be made, I doubt Sarah considers they are kids, at that point they are earners.

Not to mention the narrator on “Rocky and Bullwinkle”.

Trooper who arrested NFL’s Sam Montgomery fired

NFL players are spayshul, donchaknow. Dallas PD also fired that guy who caught a player running a red light, and then kept him in the hospital parking lot, at gunpoint, for so long he didn’t get to say goodbye to his dying mother-in-law. Even after a nurse came out and told the cop it was for real, and please let him come in, and he was begging please just write me the ticket…

That story seriously bothers me at one point (offending portion bolded):

Making methaphedemine jokes about Sarah Palin’s children is NOT COOL. Calling someone a drug addict just because of whose child they are is ugly and wrong.

I also dispute that John McCain wouldn’t survive the Ice Bucket Challenge. He’s a pretty tough fellow, he’d do just fine. But he’d have to have someone else pour the bucket due to the injuries he sustained in service to the USA.

I challenge Sarah Palin to do the Ice Bucket Challenge outdoors in Wasilla, Alaska on either Christmas or New Year’s, her choice.

Mom: You’re right. You’re right about that.

Nice post here. It’s amazing how easily these stories fall apart once the slightest bit of light is shed on them.

And yet there are people who think that Ferguson PD or the STL County Police aren’t racial discriminating against blacks in their vehicle stops. That’s even as the MO AG report categorically and unequivocably states as much - based on the racial makeup of the community, blacks are being stopped far more often than whites when figuring for the makeup. It’s not just that there are more blacks so there should be more black stops. It’s that there’s a disproportionate number of stops.

I attribute that to organized religion, especially the more fundamentalist aspects of Protestantism. The “Moral Majority” that came to prominence during the Reagan years have done real and lasting damage to the body politic, of which proud ignorance among the true believers is but one symptom.

Channeling Shultz

Gov. Scott Walker said Saturday he played no role in soliciting cash from a mining company for the Wisconsin Club for Growth during the 2011 and 2012 recall elections, adding that no one should be surprised that the pro-business governor backed legislation helpful to the firm.

Asked if he was aware that Gogebic Taconite secretly donated $700,000 to Wisconsin Club for Growth — a pro-business advocacy group directed by the governor’s campaign adviser — Walker said, “Not to my knowledge.”

When asked if the previously undisclosed funds and subsequent legislation were part of some pay-to-play scheme, Walker said, “That’s a ridiculous argument.”

Sure he didn’t know anything about it.

Gov. Scott Walker prodded outside groups and individuals to funnel millions of dollars into Wisconsin Club for Growth — a pro-Walker group directed by his campaign adviser — during the recall elections in 2011 and 2012, according to court documents unsealed for a short time Friday afternoon.

The documents form much of the basis for prosecutors’ theory that Walker’s campaign and conservative groups illegally cooperated to help him and other Republicans. Walker and the groups deny they broke any laws, noting two judges have sided with them.

Among the funds that flowed into the Wisconsin Club for Growth was $700,000 from a company trying to build a massive open-pit iron mine in northern Wisconsin. Soon after the 2012 recall and general elections, Walker and Republicans eased environmental regulations, helping the firm.

This story is more of a non-story. The rather poor handling by many media outlets of knowing what is “warming”, that yearly fluctuations are to be expected, that the surface temperature changes are not monotonic, that measuring the climate is more than measuring the surface temperature 1 meter above ground level… and so on …

The complexity of the issues around climate change, like so many contemporary science stories, are not neatly bottled into the headline-only depth of media, including HuffPo.

Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary — a 24-year old who reportedly left home last year to fight in Syria’s civil war — used to go by the name L. Jinny … and even had some of his music played on BBC Radio.

Bary tweeted a picture of himself holding a severed head earlier this month … and the Telegraph says he’s a suspect in Foley’s execution.

According to reports … former ISIS hostages have given him the nickname “John the Beatle” — because of his British accent.

I’m sure they have a database of British passports used to go to that region, British Muslims whose parents/siblings/neighbors have reported them as going there, etc.

If he’s one of theirs (and not just someone who learned English from a teacher with that accent), they’ll figure out who he is.

The small city of Jennings, Mo., had a police department so troubled, and with so much tension between white officers and black residents, that the city council finally decided to disband it. Everyone in the Jennings police department was fired. New officers were brought in to create a credible department from scratch.

That was three years ago. One of the officers who worked in that department, and lost his job along with everyone else, was a young man named Darren Wilson.

Some of the Jennings officers reapplied for their jobs, but Wilson got a job in the police department in the nearby city of Ferguson.

There’s been something rotten going on in the St. Louis part of the world for a long time. It’s tragic that it took the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown to expose this shit. And I have this sinking feeling that shit’s not going to change much over the rest of this decade.

I talked with my father about this stuff a few nights ago. I brought up racism, and he said “It’ll take 2 or 3 generations from now to smooth things over. My dad said it would take 10 generations after World War II to see any kind of eradication of racism. I think it’ll happen sooner, but we’ve got a long ways to go.”

I’m not quoting my pops verbatim, but that’s pretty much what he said.

Giuliani, who was in the store by herself, was confronted by a sales clerk and a store security guard, who called police.

Sources said she allegedly stole five items, worth about $100.

During the wait for cops to arrive, store officials established the suspect’s identity, and apparently had a change of heart and declined to press charges. But by then it was too late, and the daughter of the man who built a reputation for being tough on crime was carted out in handcuffs.

No, what should have happened was that Michael Brown should have been punished appropriately for stealing those mini-cigars:

I think he should have spent his Christmas break from college doing community service and he should have been made to pay the store owner $50 for having stolen from him. Once those things had been attended to, I’d have expunged Brown’s record if he kept out of trouble for 2-3 years.

Yes, but I was assuming he’d plead guilty. The tape is pretty conclusive proof he stole from that store.

It does not, however, justify him getting shot. I’ll leave the last word on that point to Mark Steyn. I know he’s sometimes a jerk, but he’s dead on here:

(Italics in original.)

And what is it we’re supposed to “assume” is correct? That the police had no reason to believe Brown had done anything illegal when stopped? Or that Wilson had no idea about the robbery when he ran into Brown? Or that he recognized the cigars Brown had and deduced he was the robber?

They can’t all be correct.

Frankly, I’d wager Steyn agrees with you on that. But he wrote what he wrote to make the point that there is nothing having to do with the theft that could possible make Wilson shooting Brown dead OK. What Steyn is saying is that Wilson screwed up, and no amount details about Michael Brown can camouflage that fact.

I also dispute that John McCain wouldn’t survive the Ice Bucket Challenge. He’s a pretty tough fellow, he’d do just fine. But he’d have to have someone else pour the bucket due to the injuries he sustained in service to the USA.

And then wingnuts would be all “SEE? EVEN McCAIN IS OKAY WITH BEING WATERBOARDED! YUK YUK YUK!”

What Steyn is saying is that Wilson screwed up, and no amount details about Michael Brown can camouflage that fact.

But, in typical passive/aggressive form, he has to present it as “let’s assume everything the police say is correct.” So he’s accepting every bad characterization of Brown—
punched Wilson
went for his gun
slammed the car door
was “bumrushing him like a bull when shot”

And then he says, “whether or not the fatal shooting of Mr Brown is a crime, it’s certainly a mistake.” Wow, isn’t that big of him, to call it a “mistake.”

Nope—a mistake is when you accidentally leave your sunglasses on the counter, not when you pump 6 bullets into an unarmed kid.
