Jim Hoft, Dumbest Man on Internet and Master of Projection: Did CNN Get Duped?

“Did they do a background check on the attorney?”
Wingnuts • Views: 33,595
DERP

Sometimes right wing loon Jim Hoft is so incredibly dense yet so amazingly egomaniacal, he rivals the best comedy, albeit inadvertently. In today’s example of this un-self-conscious idiocy from the ineffable Gateway Pundit, dim-witted Jim asks the question: Did CNN Get Duped by Unverified Audio Recording of Mike Brown Shooting in #Ferguson? | the Gateway Pundit.

CNN invited North County attorney Lopa Blumenthal to discuss the video. Blumenthal, a leftie, is representing the man who made the tape during an online chat session.

Oooh, a leftie! In Jim’s vague universe, that means nefariousness is afoot! How does he discern that Ms Blumenthal is “a leftie?” By linking to this page at Facebook:

That settles it, all right — she’s a Commie! Probably a Muslim too. And undoubtedly an atheist.

Jim continues mangling the English language:

CNN ran the video and decided to verify its authenticity later - something they lectured The Gateway Pundit about on Sunday.

Clearly, Jim’s prodigious ego (which dwarfs his intellect) has suffered a blow. A lecture! How DARE they? Well, he’s not going to take this lying down; he asks a series of questions, most of which are not in the form of questions:

The video brings up more questions than it answers:

** Dorian Johnson said he was conversing with Brown during the confrontation.
** Dorian Johnson also said Brown ran about three car lengths away when he turned around.
** The St. Louis County police said at least one shot was fired off in the car.
** Why was the audio made public now?
** Where’s the rest of the audio before the series of gun shots?
** Why would CNN run and [sic] unverified audio? (We all know the answer to that.)
** Did they do a background check on the attorney, at least?

AT LEAST! All attorneys who appear on CNN should be asked if they are now or have ever been Muslim commie atheist progressive far lefties!

These are penetrating, incisive questions… if you’re an idiot. Which Hoft, of course, is.

He continues ambling down Illiterate Street:

CNN better hope this does not come back to bite them.

Like Hoft’s ridiculous, bogus report about a “fractured eye socket” came back to bite him?

Yes, that would be terrible indeed.

UPDATE at 8/26/14 4:51:34 pm by Charles Johnson

By the way, one of dim Jim’s questions:

Where’s the rest of the audio before the series of gun shots?

…has now been answered by Lopa Blumenthal, the attorney for the man who recorded it. There is no “rest of the audio.” That twelve-second clip is the entire recording.

** Dorian Johnson said he was conversing with Brown during the confrontation.

So?

** Dorian Johnson also said Brown ran about three car lengths away when he turned around.

So?

** The St. Louis County police said at least one shot was fired off in the car.

True, as did the witnesses. If the unstated implication is “why don’t we hear it?” - maybe because it’s not the full recording. I suppose it’s also possible that the shot in the car was partialy muffled by the car.

** Why was the audio made public now?

Because.

** Where’s the rest of the audio before the series of gun shots?

At the FBI.

** Why would CNN run and [sic] unverified audio? (We all know the answer to that.)

LOL.

** Did they do a background check on the attorney, at least?

Eh?

We prohibit people from driving a car without a license for which they must undergo courses and pass tests and must be of the appropriate age; We prohibit people under the age of 21 from drinking alcoholic beverages, while having no issues with said people serving in the military and risking their lives around the clock.
Neither the alcoholic beverages nor the vehicles are the deliberately intentional weapons of death that guns are, let alone assault rifles and machine-guns such as the one that was used here.
How is it legal for a 9 year old to shoot an Uzi? Damned if i know - because it sure as hell shouldn’t be!!

Hoft thinks these are the questions to be asked/answered?

The video brings up more questions than it answers:

** Dorian Johnson said he was conversing with Brown during the confrontation.

And it’s not contradicted by anything heard. Gunshots are louder than conversations, even yelling. We don’t know how far the person who recorded this was from the events.

** Dorian Johnson also said Brown ran about three car lengths away when he turned around.

Not contradicted by anything in that audio. And so what? That could correspond to the three seconds or so between the first volley of shots and the second.

** The St. Louis County police said at least one shot was fired off in the car.

And we know this why? They withheld any information about the shooting from the police report they published, including how many shots were fired (more than a few, but probably not much more than that). Even assuming that this is correct, nothing in audio actually contradicts this audio.

** Why was the audio made public now?

Because someone didn’t realize what they had? Because they wanted to make sure it got to the FBI? Because they didn’t trust the FPD or STL county police to do the right thing with this purported evidence.

** Where’s the rest of the audio before the series of gun shots?

Quite possibly in the hands of the FBI, but it’s not clear how much more audio there is.

** Why would CNN run and [sic] unverified audio? (We all know the answer to that.)

ROTFLMAO. Hoft is talking about unverified audio? What about his unverified sources claiming Wilson had a fractured eyeball socket when the police and WaPo says nothing of the sort. No fractures, let alone any scans ever were seen by the prosecutor’s office.

** Did they do a background check on the attorney, at least?

This just made my day.

Upgraded somewhat today since I got pictures of both reptiles (skink) and amphibians (toads) while at Fort Donelson this morning.

I also noted that middle and western Tennessee has armadillos now judging by the roadkill sightings.

Earlier, I was reading a link to a SALON article couple threads back and they had mentioned this sight was a conservative leaning website.

I think the paragraph read:

Later that afternoon on the conservative leaning website Little Green Footballs, Charles Johnson, who takes delight in debunking Hoft, shredded the story.

So, I wanted to ask if it has been determined what the political leanings of the site really are in political terms?

I’m thinking the site is really centrist by nature of the posters. Seems to me, most here really do not pound party affiliation. It seems most were at one time pure Republican or Democrat, but have over time found themselves just looking for some sensible reality to the obvious problems in the country.

Anyway, I went back to check the story and noticed that since I read it earlier, it has been changed. it now reads:

Hoft offered a still from a CT scan as evidence of Wilson’s injury. It did not take long for people to debunk the story. Later that afternoon on the website Little Green Footballs, Charles Johnson, who takes delight in debunking Hoft, shredded the story.

Someone get through to them? Good work if they did!

More importantly, he thinks it’s going to have audio of Wilson and Brown fighting, or whatever, and that it’s being suppressed. This is a recording of someone in their home with only the loud gunshots audible. Whatever was recorded before the gunshots is irrelevant.

Jbimrose 44 minutes ago

Ugh… I hate this!! Some of the problem lies with the people who believe the garbage generated by this horrible excuse for a “news organization”. A lot of them are from a time when reporters had journalistic integrity, such as Walter Cronkite. When he reported something, it was news, and it was fact. Since Faux News has taken over, a lot of people who are of the generation who were used to being presented with facts are now being lied to on a daily basis, and unknowingly believe the drivel as fact.

That bit you mention about Obama polling here at LGF to me is an example of what I meant by reality.

I think the reality is most are fine with Obama, seeing that he is trying hard against unprecedented obstruction and what the alternatives were offered by the Republicans.

Is having Obama as president ideal? Not the way politics are right now. Again, he has been attacked and obstructed from the get-go, yet things are going fairly well considering. So more reality…how much better could it/would it have been if had some damn help from the Republicans and America as a whole supporting him?

If we had an opposition party that offered ideas and worked with the other party (and not just paying lip service) then more would get done and I have a feeling things would be even better than they are now.

Instead we have one party trying to get things done and an obstruction party hellbent on preventing anything from getting done. As a result we have the gridlock we have and it’s amazing that things are even going this good all things considered.

Of course most of the good shit that happened was put in place before 2010.

Boy, 8, killed in accident at gun show

With an instructor watching, an 8-year-old boy at a gun fair aimed an Uzi at a pumpkin and pulled the trigger as his dad reached for a camera.

It was his first time shooting a fully automatic machine gun, and the recoil of the weapon was too much for him. He lost control and fatally shot himself in the head.

He shot himself under the chin and up into his brain because he could not control the automatic weapon’s recoil. The organizer of the gun fair was later charged with Involuntary Manslaughter but was acquitted.

I’m thinking that corporations are planning ahead, they see that higher taxes for them are on the horizon due to national deficit spending/debt and social security/medicare obligations. Especially as demographics show an outlook that includes Republicans losing political power.

They are trying to get the fuck out of dodge while they still can. Before a Democrat majority can penalize them for it and before taxes go back up to more historically normal levels. God forbid that they should actually be asked to pay their fair share rather than further enriching the 1%.

re: #157 Pie-onist Overlord

I think it’s bullshit. Canada does not have a reputation as a tax haven.

The big thing is that income entirely earned overseas will not be taxed. I don’t know if the US is the only country that tries to do that, but if not it is one of very few.

Wallgreens and Burger King aren’t GE. They may be big but they’re not getting the breaks that the truly massive companies are. They have enough money to move though, and an investor is going to consider another 2% lower taxes to be a prudent move.

The stated official rate in Canada is 38%. There are reductions and abatements that bring the rate down.

But they start out at a rate comparable to the US federal rate, which no one ever pays because the effective tax rate is substantially lower due to everything from depreciation to capital gains deductions and NOLs.

It’s how a corporation like GE could have an effective tax rate of of less than 5% despite billions in profits. They were hardly alone.

Well that happens here too so getting to a real bottom line is a little thicker than I can sort out. Presumably the accountants for Burger King got the math right, but what was the motivation? Something of a lizard miracle here in the backwoods this evening.
The feline overlords found a new non-rodent, non-bug plaything in the kitchen.
On initial inspection I thought it was a grasshopper, but a closer look confirmed that it was a tiny (less than 2-inch long) baby six-line blue tailed skink.
There it lay, flat on its back on the floor, for all intents and purposes gone to lizard heaven.
I ran off the kittehs, and retrieved the tiny carcass with a tissue.
But something told me not to flush the corpse. So I set it on the countertop and checked from time to time.
Thankfully, it revived without my having to resort to CPR or rescue breaths.

Here it is and it has been safely relocated to the great outdoors of the backyard.
It. Lives!

No, the man was just starting to tell the woman he was talking (or recording) to that he had watched her videos and that she was “so pretty” when the gunshots started in the background. Have no idea what the context of the audio chat was but apparently he had just started the recording…

I think the real motivation is what I expressed earlier today. They saw a way to grow their businesses and there are synergies between the companies. TH lets BK grow a breakfast business to compete with McD’s. BK gets to use the TH properties as room to grow - co locate business, etc.,

I think there’s solid reasons besides taxes for this to work out for both.

This does not look like a obvious inversion ploy like Walgreens. This is a merger of equals as far as I can see (they have similar market values.) And there are legitimate strategic reasons for the deal (It will probably not work, most deals don’t) The tax rate factor was probably secondary, but without it, the numbers might not work.

And that does makes the point that the US corporate tax rate is ridiculously high. I think economists across the ideological spectrum pretty much agree. Even the President proposed a lower 28% rate. And why not? Corp tax brings very little tax revenue.

Lower the corporate rate to the OECD average (25-28%), raise the down-stream capital gains and dividend income rates (and the nefarious carried-interest tax rate) by a little more and you have a sane system that probably brings in much more tax revenue and increases employment long term (by a little) in the US.

Some yahoo took him up on it and filed an idiotic claim, saying ChuckyC would be irreparably harmed if he didn’t get the records. He’s been throwing tantrums about it ever since.

I defy that royal douchecanoe to give me one legitimate reason why he would be irreparably harmed by not having those records. They were improper to release under FOIA, that’s the end of it. Courts don’t release confidential records just for the sake of some blogger - oh, excuse me, “award-winning journalist”.

…. Mars & the moon colonized, and cars that flew.

Too many people can barely control heir cars on the ground, and you want them to fly?
They actually did successfully build flying cars decades ago, but decided mass production would be a bad idea.
