Update: St. Louis Post-Dispatch Is Trying to Get Michael Brown’s Juvenile Records

Wow
US News • Views: 42,657

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch responded a few minutes ago to my request for information, in a way that can only be described as extremely disappointing.

Here’s their statement: Post-Dispatch Seeks Juvenile Court Records.

In response to a number of inquiries today, I wanted to confirm that the Post-Dispatch filed a petition last week with the St. Louis County Family Court seeking the release of any juvenile court records it may have relating to Michael Brown.

The court filing is just one avenue of many in our continuing commitment to cover a significant news story for our community.

We have taken this action as a professional news organization, independently and not in conjunction with any other organization, as we seek to report facts and not rely on innuendo or speculation.

Note that this statement specifically contradicts the claim made by blogger Chuck C. Johnson:

But regardless, there’s absolutely no way that this information is relevant to the current police shooting case. Juvenile criminal records are sealed for a very good reason — to prevent exactly this kind of character assassination. It’s disgusting to see the St. Louis Post-Dispatch join the right wing effort to poison the well and smear a dead 18-year old.

This is just sick. I’ll say it again here loudly but even if Brown did have a record. It does not excuse what happened at all to him and the attempts to use it by other Charles Johnson, Dimmy Hoft, and the otehrs to rationalize Officer Wilson’s murdering him are disgusting yet typical of right wing assholes like them.

The most charitable explanation was offered downstairs by Shiplord Kirel.

3 Kragar  Aug 29, 2014 1:26:20pm

I can only assume they asked for a copy of Darren Wilson’s police records, including why he wasn’t asked back when his previous Police Force was disbanded.

I hope that is true. Really, as Charles said, it’s just sick using this to character assassinate a kid who was frankly murdered in cold blood.

No shit. And frankly that’s a lot more relevant to the case.

They’ve put in a request for any of Darren Wilson’s juvenile court records then too, right?

In the spirit of “a continuing commitment to cover a significant news story for our community” of course.

Murdered, most probably. Cold blood? Not so sure. Anger, fear, rage, etc. would not be cold blood.

Yeah maybe. I don’t know though. The way the police forbade anyone to help him once he was shot though.

Nonsense. It’s called “news service”. And I’m being so sarcastic it burns. Sort of like what Fox News does each and every day. Reporting smearing. Let’s release the Juvee and adult records of each and every single officer on the Ferguson PD and the St Louis County departments. They are public servants. They should be sterling.

Yeah because having a juvenile record justifies being murdered. Fucker. Even if Brown does turn out to have a record, it has no bearing whatsoever on the case. Officer Wilson did not know he had a record. Hell Officer Wilson did not even know about the incident at the cigar shop. Sleazy right wing fucks. Sorry for being so angry but damn it, I am tired of every time something like this happens whether it’s Treyvon, Michael, or any other black kid that people like Chuckles here are out in front eager to justify the killing any way, any how.

Does anyone know the political leanings of this newspaper?

They might not be ‘joining’ the right wing effort as they are already a part of it. I’m thinking with the political leanings on display in that state, they may well be a very conservative leaning paper and willing to trash Brown to help out your typical law and order conservative thinking.

There’s millions of people in the United States with this mindset. We’ve got a long way to go in re: racism.

Yeah, it’s funny how you have guys with guns massing up and threatening LEOs because this is a police state, and all the wingnuts support them, but when unarmed teens are shot to death by LEOs for no real reason, protesting that is bad?

It’s almost like wingnuts are racist or something.

This is apparently a previously unreleased video taken shortly after the killing, in which you can hear bystanders talking about what happened - one of them says Wilson held Brown by the arm and shot him. Presumably the first shot that was reportedly inside the car.

They’re looking for something, anything, in Brown’s record to portray him as a “violent thug” who was better off being shot dead. Like with Trayvon Martin, the idea that he was just an unarmed kid who got shot dead by an asshole cop can’t stand.

If Brown had been involved somehow in a second degree murder sitch, wouldn’t a Google or Lexis search turn it up? It wasn’t that long ago that he was a juvenile, so there can’t be that many murders committed by juvies where the perp was tried as a juvenile and did his time.

Or standing still while the rest of the wingnuts speed further and further towards the right.

From the response he got to his initial request:

The “Sunshine Act” does not apply to judicial records, either legal or social. The definition of a “Public Governmental Body~ does not include judicial records, except for administrative records, which are not part of your request…

and

~Records of juvenile court proceedings as well as all information obtained and social records prepared in the discharge of official duty for the court shall not be open to inspection or their contents disclosed …. ” 211.321 RSMo. The Statute goes on to list some records that are exceptions to this provision, but none of the exceptions apply to your request The records you request, if any exist, are clearly judicial records which are by statute to be held confidential and are not public records.

It’s easy for them to try and project that, multiple facets on gun control, from better registration to firearms training, removing all semiautomatics but to them it’s all rounded up into “They’re coming to get mah gunz!”. Healthcare, ranges from tweaking the ACA to a full fledged National Health Service to Medicare/Medicaid expansion to bigger mandates and that equates to “Death Panels!”. Foreign policy has multiple levels of nuance from dealing with Muslim fundamentalism to nationalistic rights of ethnic groups to trying to end the trafficking of humans in Africa and that can be summed up on the right by “Bomb them all and let Jeebus sort ‘em out!”

It’s patently obvious that these fuckers have devolved into politics by bumper sticker, they don’t do nuance or have the patience for anyone else attempting to explain or educate them.

Federal Judge Strikes Down Texas Abortion Regulation

A federal judge on Friday struck down new requirements for Texas abortion facilities — a decision that could have shuttered all but a few abortion clinics in the state. The standards were set to go into effect Monday.

The lawsuit was brought by the Center for Reproductive Rights on behalf of several abortion providers, asking U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel of the District Court for the Western District of Texas to block the last provision of House Bill 2, which would have required abortion facilities to meet the same standards as ambulatory surgical centers. Those include minimum sizes for rooms and doorways and having pipelines for anesthesia.

118 jaunte  Aug 29, 2014 3:11:05pm
District Judge Lee Yeakel found that part of the law requiring abortion clinics to upgrade their facilities to meet the standards of ambulatory surgical centers imposed an undue burden on women seeking an abortion. That provision likely would have led to the closure of all but a handful of abortion clinics in Texas.

I’m afraid to. These guys act like the worst kind of spammers, and you NEVER do that to real spam, heh.

By the Can Spam Act laws, those unsubscribes have to be on legit email campaigns and they have to be heeded. Also, they need to have physical addresses and phone to legitimate businesses listed. And, a link or message that explains how you made it on the email list, etc. must be accessible. Many times it will also mention if they are using a legit mass email service like I-contact, Constant Contact, Vertical Response, Mail Chimp and others. If you see that on any email, they are legit and can be stopped by unsubscribing.

I know, I used to have to do mass emails for some internet based stores and we ran into spamming issues with AOL. It was tough on the server hosts too. I had to learn a lot. To set up a legit mail list is tough enough. Still learning. I’m working with Mail Chimp right now.

By law ALL email has to have an unsubscribe feature. Sure, there might be a spammer out there that will try to get around that, but it is so much harder to do than even 5 years ago.

Couple weeks ago I finally went through and marked them as spam and unsubscribed wherever possible. The next day I was getting all sorts of penis enlargement scam mails. I can only assume it’s libertarian policy to sell your email if you unsubscribe.

All a spammer needs is an email address. It does not have to come from an email. If you have typed an email and your address is still in recent history, a visit to something like a celebrity photo site, a porn site, a song lyrics site or the like and a spammer can get your email from the recent history. Then they can share it on lists for sale.

Boom…here comes a new ton of spam. It might have zero to do with you unsubscribing from a recent email.

I’m hoping the smear merchants end up being hoist by their petard when/if Brown’s juvenile records become public. Let their speculation about murder etc. spin up to a climax, then have the report show a brief detention for boosting a candy bar when he was 9.

“Petard” btw, refers to a small bomb that insane drunk intrepid sappers would place against the wall of an enemy fortification in the early days of gunpowder warfare. They often detonated prematurely, lifting the would be hero into the air, sometimes in pieces .

The word literally means “small fart” in French, which aptly describes the useless musings of the right these days.

Mitch McConnell’s campaign manager resigns after Iowa bribery scandal deepens

Jesse Benton, the campaign manager for U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, will resign his post as a bribery scandal from the 2012 presidential campaign threatens to envelop Benton and become a major distraction for McConnell’s campaign.

Benton told the Herald-Leader that he met with McConnell Friday afternoon and offered his resignation, which McConnell “reluctantly accepted.”

Benton said he offered his resignation, effective Saturday, with a “heavy heart.”

He maintained his innocence, faulting “inaccurate press accounts and unsubstantiated media rumors.”

Holy Crap! Federal judge bans enforcement of Texas’ new draconian abortion clinic restriction laws.

statesman.com

A federal judge Friday banned Texas from enforcing an abortion regulation that would have shut down 19 licensed clinics, leaving large parts of the state without an abortion provider.
U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel of Austin ruled that the regulation, requiring all abortion clinics to meet the same standards as ambulatory surgical centers, posed an impermissible burden on “on women throughout Texas.”

Great news.

For real, what a coincidence I’m reading Death on the Nile right now, I’m almost through and seen at least two filmed versions but have never read the book. I knew that Christie hated the Poirot character so don’t tell me what happens. It is really hard to picture Poirot as anyone other than Davis Suchet, I remember Ustinov playing Poirot in Death on the Nile in film and it was not a good fit.

I’m not a big Christie fan, but lately I’ve been reading her because many of her constructions are just so diabolically clever. I mean, a bee on an airplane as a possible murder weapon? That’s brilliant! And I love Peter Ustinov, but his Poirot tv series did nothing for me. The two movies weren’t bad, the second, “Evil Under the Sun,” being the best imho. Suchet rules.

My company does streaming video calls. We use wowza for our streaming media. It records. Everything is stored on the server - visitor and resident audio and video streams are sewn together when we need them to be via another process. There are a number of other companies that have products to do this as well. The ability to record is nice. Google Hangouts, for example, uses a service by a company called Vidyo. They don’t record, but their streaming is pretty good unless you get more than four or five web-cams feeding into the call. 1-1 conversations are good though.

The only even hypothetical way that the Brown shooting audio could have been faked is if the person recorded the gunshot sounds in advance, and then played them in the background at the same time he recorded the unreleased video, all at the exact same time that Wilson shot Brown and from an IP address that tracks to the same neighborhood, from some kind of soundproof room that would filter out Wilson actual shots.

This version of events presupposes that the person who recorded the video was a nefarious psychic with access to a foley sound studio located in Ferguson.

Since then all Russian cosmonauts have done the same as a kind of good luck / ritual before going into space. Female cosmonauts bring a bottle of their urine and just pour it on the tire.

The pirates came alongside in a wooden speed boat, approached the vessel on the portside, and boarded from stern. They broke the bridge glass, gained access to the crew cabins and gathered the crew in the engine room.

Learned the vinegar trick, did ya?

I’ve known it…just always tried to poach them in too shallow of a pan. Ended up breaking the eggs before I was done. Now I break them into a small bowl, slip them into the water, swirl it once with a spoon, then leave them alone for a few minutes.

Interesting article. Now that people are covered by medical insurance there is an actual demand which makes economic sense for corporations to offer services like this. Before the $4 check up people weren’t getting check ups at all.

We had a slight stalker incursion there. No need for alarm. Everything is under control.

Well, at least the troll got clubbed late at night when its cooler. I’ll go get the grill going, since we haven’t had a Friday Night Troll Roast in so long.

Another live one:

Only the time was authenticated. Not officially authenticated until they produce a copy from their end & servers w/gunshots

Glide hosts the recordings, so the recording that CNN got was already from their server, right? Or am I missing something?

No, you aren’t missing anything. They’re desperate, and they’re saying anything.

Guy got retweeted by CCJ for obvious reasons…

Thank God that there is 3 day weekend coming up. I’m going to record myself shooting a full clip from my Sig over and over and over again in case I need to sneak it into some 3rd party’s independently time stamped cloud server for evidence in some unexpected random crime that happens within a block from my house.

Glide is saying.

And how does Glide have a preferred outcome?

These people questioning the authenticity of the Glide audio are hopeless. Hateful morons all.

Think I will watch.

Didn’t you hear? Everybody but the local PD are in on the conspiracy. That’s why Brown was tried and convicted of murder as a juvie, but we’ve not heard a peep from anybody but Johnson’s “source.”

Well since the whole DOJ is in on the fix they don’t have to worry about getting prosecuted for falsification of evidence, do they?

Something is wrong with that boy. Seriously, he has mental issues.

He was spouting off about Kirsten Gillebrand earlier, saying that he was wrongfully accused of sexual harassment (or something) when he was in college. Um hum.

He’s kind of a cross between Forrest Gump and Zelig.

By tomorrow night it will be charged for genocide.

And he still managed to graduate from high school with his class at age 18. Awesome kid.

He’s a weird cat. Saw the tweet earlier where he fondly reminisced about listening to Rush with his grandmother when he was five. I feel bad that he lost his grandmother that young but at the same time listening to Rush not exactly what one has in mind for grandmother-grandson bonding.
