St. Louis Riverfront Times Seeks Juvenile Records of Officer Darren Wilson

Turnabout
US News • Views: 35,601

In a brilliant move, St. Louis alternative newspaper Riverfront Times responds to the Post-Dispatch: Riverfront Times Seeks Juvenile Records for Officer Darren Wilson.

In response to a number of inquiries today, the Riverfront Times confirms that it is seeking the juvenile records of Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, the man who shot and killed Michael Brown.

After the Post-Dispatch announced Friday that it is seeking the juvenile records for Brown, many people on Twitter asked that the same scrutiny be placed upon Wilson, who is currently under investigation for the shooting death of the unarmed 18-year-old man.

This is just one avenue of many in our continuing commitment to cover a significant news story for our community.

We have taken this action as a professional news organization, independently and not in conjunction with any other organization, as we seek to report facts and not rely on innuendo or speculation.

If that statement sounds familiar, here’s why.

Turnabout, fair play.

I do wish someone would file an FOIA for all documents relative to the actual shooting, though.

Good for them.

Maybe we could get Officer Shoot Em Up’s police history (arrests, complaints, use of force, etc.) Nah. That would be predjudicial.

It would be interesting to see how the wingnuts react if Wilson has a shoplifting complaint in his past.

12 b_sharp  Aug 30, 2014 10:47:50am

As hard as the right tries to portray themselves as dispassionate logical analysts of facts as opposed to the emotional response of the left, they sure put a lot of emphasis on emotional considerations like character.

They spend most of their time attacking the messenger for the message to the extreme of inventing character flaws to attack. They’ve done that with climatologists to a great extent, politicians with different views, no matter how successful the policies, and liberals in general.

They complain about how liberal policies to reduce recidivism in the penal system is anti-victim yet do their best to attack the victim when the crime is something they consider ‘just politically incorrect’.

They probably really are, it is pretty simple to file a request for the records, they know that they wont ever get them though. This is for the symbolic value…

I don’t get the need for comments on news articles in the first place. It’s nearly always a cesspool. I also get really annoyed when watching the local news and they end a story with ” go to our facebook page or follow us on twitter and let us know what you think”. Why? If it’s “news” then there’s not a freaking opinion needed, it’s NEWS. Shit that happened. It just screams, “we are lazy and stupid, help us be more of that”. Ack.

57 S'latch  Aug 30, 2014 11:39:05am

It’s just snark and it shouldn’t be done. Neither the juvenile records of Brown or Wilson are relevant. By demanding Wilson’s, they are adding some justification for the release of Brown’s juvenile records, which should not be done. Also, as a lawyer, it probably is an ethical violation to file a petition for an improper purpose such as snark.

58 Gus  Aug 30, 2014 11:39:09am
59 S'latch  Aug 30, 2014 11:42:50am

Furthermore, Wilson’s juvenile records probably don’t have anything in them. He probably was an uncritical authoritarian hall-monitor as a youth enabling him to get a job as a police officer.

Florida Mayor Forces Atheist To Leave Public Meeting For Not Standing During Prayer Or Pledge Of Allegiance (VIDEO)

During a city council meeting in Florida, the mayor and chief of police kicked an atheist out of the room for refusing to stand during prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

As the all middle age white male city council of Winter Garden, Florida stood to open a Thursday meeting with an unconstitutional Christian prayer and recite the Pledge of Allegiance featuring the unconstitutional words “under God,” an atheist member of the community refused to do so, and his rights were violated for it.

She started in on “the blacks” when I pointed out that the vagrant was white. She didn’t skip a beat, changing the topic to Ferguson and how it’s going to start riots here WHEN the cop gets cleared for it being a righteous shooting because black thugs.

In the midst of all this, she kept repeating how she wasn’t a racist but… I finally just stopped her in disgust and asked if she had no racist feelings, why was she so desperate to make a teenager who ended up dead for simply walking down the street responsible for his own death-by-cop? She just sputtered, turned, and stomped away.

Don’t think she’ll be stopping me to chat again.

re: #86 Charles Johnson

I really don’t understand why these people keep trying to sneak their fucked up hate pieces into LGF. What do they think they’re going to accomplish?

Considering that the minor stalker incursion happened around the same time and due to the fact that it was that very same user who was the first (and only) person to up-ding the Page, my guess is it was a coordinated effort.

Having seen several people leave here (regardless of whether they were, banned, flounced, or just walked away) and immediately re-engage with old friends who were banned, some of whom are active members on the stalker site, leads me to believe there are others still. The dishonesty & pathology involved in that sort of behavior is really creepy.

If “Steve Dutch” was really serious about “fighting the threat of radical Islam” continuing to recycle his single polemic from 2005 seems like a pretty lazy and unserious response.

They seem to think that creating or contributing to anti-Muslim hate blogs is a proven method of mitigating the threat.

That’s really weird since—AFAIK—none of the white supremacist, racist hate sites have managed to make people of color go away, nor have any of the antisemitic hate sites managed to make Jews and/or Israel disappear.

A good read - A Canadian’s view on our disrespect of Obama’s presidency

In President Barack Obama, Americans have a charismatic leader with a good and honest heart. Unlike his predecessor, he’s a very intelligent leader. And unlike that president’s predecessor, he’s a highly moral man.

In President Obama, Americans have the real deal, the whole package and a leader that citizens of almost every country around the world look to with great envy. Given the opportunity, Canadians would trade our leader, hell, most of our leaders for Obama in a heartbeat.

What America has in Obama is a head of state with vitality and insight and youth. Think about it, Barack Obama is a young Nelson Mandela. Mandela was the face of change and charity for all of Africa but he was too old to make it happen. The great things Obama might do for America and the world could go on for decades after he’s out of office.

America, you know not what you have.

Unfortunately I think that we’ll see this with pretty much any Democratic president from now on, with them having to contend with the political terrorist movement that is the current GOP. Their machine will immediately brand any Democrat, no matter how centrist, moderate, and benign as a socialist, communist, radical Muslim sympathizer, etc. etc. and 40% of the citizenry will eat that shit up and be completely poisoned against that person from day one.

re: #5 WhatEVs

Good for them.

Maybe we could get Officer Shoot Em Up’s police history (arrests, complaints, use of force, etc.) Nah. That would be predjudicial.

I think I read somewhere that Ferguson barely keeps records in that department. If that’s right, he’ll have an empty record, just like everybody else in the department.

I would rather be wrong about this. It’s just ridiculous that a police department could get away with not keeping such records. But then, with the IRS turning out not to have archived their own emails in such a way that they can readily retrieve them upon appropriate and lawful, if inconvenient, request, it’s maybe not realistic to expect anybody to live up to the letter or the spirit of the law on record keeping.

A good read - A Canadian’s view on our disrespect of Obama’s presidency

Yes. Things have gone just swimmingly. On the home front, the economy has come back strong from the Bush recession. And on the international front, who could escape noticing how much better news of the world is nowadays than it was when Bush left office.

Health care costs have declined, exactly as promised. The VA was reformed promptly when Obama took office, exactly as promised. He’s another Lincoln, but better because his own presidency wasn’t cut short.
