Jim Hoft Plagiarized a White Supremacist Hate Site for His Latest Race-Baiting Post

The Dumbest Man on the Internet adds plagiarism to his resumé
Wingnuts • Views: 45,332

In today’s episode of the Dumbest Man on the Internet, we find Jim Hoft, the Gateway Pundit, blatantly plagiarizing the website of the Council of Conservative Citizens, a white supremacist hate group that sprang out of the “White Citizens Councils” formed in the 1950s to fight against school desegregation in Southern states.

When I saw Hoft tweet the link to his post this morning, I had a hunch he might have lifted it from the CCC website without attribution, because he’s used them as sources before, and because this is their racist style. And sure enough, still on their front page, there was the evidence.

Here’s Hoft’s post; note the title: Cops Shoot 18 Year-Old Kansas Teen 16 Times - Media Ignores Story Because He’s White (Video) | the Gateway Pundit

First, the idea that the media “ignored the story because he’s white” is laughably easy to disprove; a Google News search for this poor teenager’s name shows that the media didn’t “ignore” it at all: Joseph Jennings Kansas.

Now, here’s a screenshot of Jim Hoft’s page, because he has a long-standing practice of editing and deleting things when he’s caught:

And here’s a screenshot of the Council of Conservative Citizens’ page (Google cache link); notice that Hoft lifted both videos and the photograph of Joseph Jennings, and Hoft’s title is very similar:

Although the title of Hoft’s post is not a direct copy of the white supremacists’ title, the caption for that photograph is nearly word-for-word plagiarism — he just changed “media doesn’t care” to “media ignores story:”

The white supremacist photo and caption:

Hoft’s photo and caption:

Busted again, Jim.

He dug up a week-old article at Raw Story and included it in his post, apparently to hide his real source, but that photo caption is irrefutably lifted straight from the CCC site. (By the way, what looks like a link to “KMBC” in Hoft’s caption is actually a broken link; it doesn’t lead to KMBC.)

And this is far from the first time Jim Hoft has gotten his stories from white supremacists; see:

Jim Hoft Links to White Supremacist Site to Smear Michael Brown
Racist Source on Conservative Blog: Coincidence or Custom? | Riverfront Times

This is the guy whose posts are often cited all over the right wing blogosphere, and often end up on Drudge Report and Fox News: an unregenerate racist who steals material from white supremacist sites, now without attribution — probably because he’s been caught posting links to them before.

The media at first didn’t drive Ferguson. It was the people of Ferguson themselves that got the media moving. Otherwise, the media would have easily ignored the shooting of Michael Brown. The people of Ferguson took a stand and the media follower. Not the other way around. The same is true in this case. As long as people remain largely silent the media will move on to something else.

For Hoft this is a step up.

So you’re saying I can start my own right wing site and either blatantly steal things from other sites or just make shit up and earn a ton of money?

Well then, to hell with being honest!

KA-CHING!

/

In all seriousness, I have actually thought about starting an RW blog just to see how money and attention I would get from it.

But every time I think about the nastiness that would follow and I’d just as soon keep it away from me.

I’d really love to know how much Jim Hoft makes. I can’t believe he gets so much money for being a lying dishonest douchebag, Think about what a guy like him might be doing if the internet DIDN’T exist.

Pumping gas? Cleaning schools? Hanging off a garbage truck?

Sure as hell wouldn’t be making what he does now.

You’re right. We were on Ferguson a few days before the media and the right wing.

Once a bunch of angry black people started getting uppity then the cameras started showing up. And the right wing attacked and continues to attack black people for having the temerity to speak up about serious injustice and institutional racism.

Very very ugly, and we saw it coming. It still has a long time to play out.

LGF has moved from a place I like to hang out with some respected peers to a place that I am proud of. There is a sense of noble cause in hammering cretins like Hoft.

Carry on.

Some here know that I’m a huge fan of older fiction (Sinclair Lewis, William Makepeace Thackery, Dickens, Jack London, Upton Sinclair, etc.)
These last couple of days, I read Patricia Wentworth’s 1910 novel A Marriage Under the Terror, set during the French Revolution.
While it’s listed often as a “historical romance”, it’s actually more of a horrendous depiction of what happens during mob rule: how people can be so easily manipulated and how, eventually, what the mobs screams for comes back on them and those who manipulated them. And, in the end, not one is “safe”.
Hoft and the other of like ilk should take note, but they won’t.

I almost posted this story when it first appeared as another example of police overkill, but then I read more and saw that it was almost positively “suicide by cop” with the kid trying to provoke the police into shooting him by making multiple motions towards a real gun.

20 Randall Gross  Aug 31, 2014 12:13:48pm

Here’s why it didn’t make big news:

On Sunday, Smith said her nephew suffered from depression, seizures and other mental problems and purposefully antagonized police in an effort to get them to shoot him.

“I think he was on a suicide mission,” Smith said as she stood on the store’s parking lot.

Jennings puffed out his chest at officers and made several gestures that could have looked like he was going for a gun, she said. Smith said she and her husband could have handled Jennings had the police let them. Instead, Smith said, officers told her husband to get back or they would shoot him. They only made the situation worse, she said.

While waiting for CBS to show the US Open this morning, I caught a bit of “Face The Nation,” which I hadn’t seen since George Herman was the host. The good news was I just missed the vampiric visages of John McCain and Peter King. The bad news was I had to endure the mind-numbing ramblings of some hack from the American Enterprise Institute blaming everything bad in the world on the president.

Sure I could’ve changed the channel, but I needz my tennis.

I understand, but with civilians about, the kid armed, and making motions for the gun, the police can’t take chances. This is a case where nobody likes using deadly force, but the kid didn’t give them much choice.

For some legal reason lost in the mists of time, the alley next to my building is closed off to cars every year on this date. Usually, the security guys and gals set up a bbq grill and a cooler filled with suds to help them pass the time. Because of possible storms, there’s no grill or cooler this year, and I’m feeling sorry for the poor shlub down there who’s obviously bored out of his skull (and I hope he’s getting at least time and a half for his non-efforts).

My ethical quandary is: should I just mind my own bee’s wax or deliver unto this fellow working Joe a frosty cup of ale?

He wasn’t armed though, he didn’t have any weapon on him at all, not a gun or a knife. He just faked the cops out by acting as though he was reaching for one.

If you read the story the kid had taken pills to commit suicide a few days before, police took him to the hospital. When he left the hospital and went home is when the shooting occurred. Two of the six officers at the shooting were the same ones who had taken him to the hospital when he tried to O.D.

This was suicide by cop and unfortunately the kid managed to fool the police into thinking he was armed.

Less than 12 hours after the shooting Kansas City area media were reporting that the officer was on paid leave and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation had been contacted and started a required investigation of the event. I hadn’t heard that he actually had a weapon. Several witnesses were on camera saying he was taunting the police and refusing to lay down on the ground. Family is keeping it in the news. They had another vigil yesterday that was covered by local media and still a running story this morning.

One thing about Hoft’s plagiarism has me curious - What if this wasn’t actually plagiarized at all, but was done with the CoCC’s tacit approval?

After all, one of the primary goals of the white supremacist community is to have their ideas put forward, and accepted in the mainstream public? What better way to do that than through a “respected” (by the rightwing) individual like Hoft? Don’t put the CoCC name on it, because that immediately makes the article toxic to all except the extremists. However, if more and more of these articles start showing up via willing proxies like Hoft, then the white nationalists can start to come in and claim that “hey, you’re already agreeing with us, why not join us” recruiting efforts? It plays right into their long-term plans.

Here in Arizona, we have the case of Michelle Cusseaux, a mentally ill woman who was shot and killed on August 14 after police arrived to serve a mental-health order and take her to an inpatient facility. Cusseaux met the officers with a hammer and was shot dead.

azcentral.com

Ms. Cusseaux was African-American. I can’t say if this was a case of out-and-out racism, or more fear of the mentally ill. Certainly here in Arizona we have racism, but it’s usually directed towards Hispanics (and is just as disgusting as racism towards African-Americans.)

The Arizona Republic is asking questions such as, if police knew this was a mental health call, why they didn’t go into the situation prepared for that, instead of shooting to kill.

azcentral.com

Initially, the Phoenix PD planned an internal investigation of the shooting. Then it was handed over to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. However, this was unacceptable to the family. On August 22, they and others marched downtown with Ms. Cusseaux’s casket to protest this.

On August 25, the investigation was transferred to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com

My opinion? I don’t understand why Ms. Cusseaux had to be shot. If the police knew this was a mental health call, why didn’t they go in with less-than-lethal force?

I just made a fabulous chicken alfredo with grated parmesan and fresh basil with a garnish of Italian “pico de gallo” (sun-dried tomato, fresh garlic and basil, roasted red peppers and red pepper flakes). Got white wine but Guinnes might be good with it, too. :D

Yea, they had just treated the quarry with something. It had been 15-20 foot visibility most of the summer, and Saturday it was easily 70+ feet. Very warm above 25 feet, very comfortable down around 50, and really cold (45 degrees or so) at 100 feet. I was in a 5mm wetsuit with hood and gloves and was really over-heated above 20 feet. Good time was had by all however.

re: #51 RadicalModerate

Yes, I could see that happening. Hoft would not want to credit the CoCC because they are just too openly racist to source from. Anyone doing so would be called out for having done so and would either have to apologize or would become too radioactive to appear on Fox News.

I have to disagree. I don’t think any conservative organization will shun him for this — in fact, I know they won’t. The last time he openly linked to the CCC white supremacists was just 2 weeks ago:

Jim Hoft Links to White Supremacist Site to Smear Michael Brown

And he still got cited on Fox News and CNN for his “fractured eye socket” rubbish just a few days later, even though it got quite a bit of publicity.

The conservative movement in the US simply doesn’t care about this stuff any more. Nobody’s going to shun him or even criticize him for it. I have no idea why Hoft didn’t just openly cite CCC in this post — nobody on the right gives a shit.

Not a single one did. Not even my former partner at PJ Media, Roger L. Simon. Nobody. Instead, they all lined up to defend McCain and attack me.

re: #87 sunnygal

Let us know how it turns out and please post the recipe. I was diagnosed with celiac disease in January and feel very deprived. But, I make a killer GF banana bread, so that lessens, just a smidge, my feelings of deprivation.

First off, I’m sorry about your diagnosis-it’s good that you are undoubtedly feeling better since going g-f, but celiac is surely no fun. (I have no trouble with gluten myself, it’s my husband-but I’m not going to make yummy things for me that he can’t eat. That would be mean.)

The shortcakes came out decently, but not perfect. I adapted this recipe from Fine Cooking. I subbed in Authentic Foods’ “Classical Blend” flour* for the wheat flour, added 2 tsp. of xanthan gum, and upped the baking powder to 2 Tablespoons.
The inside of the shortcakes aren’t as light a texture as I’d like-they’re not gummy, but they’re not really flaky either, so, next time I think I’ll reduce the xanthan gum to around 1 1/4 tsp. and bake longer at a slightly lower temperature (so the tops don’t burn while the inside cooks.)

* Authentic Foods Classical Blend Flour is 2 parts extra finely ground brown rice flour, 2/3 part potato starch, and 1/3 part tapioca starch. It’s what Annalise Roberts uses in Gluten Free Baking Classics and works pretty well for substituting into cakes and cookies and whatnot (with xanthan gum or whatever, of course.)
The “extra finely ground” part for the rice flour really improves the results in baked goods, other than breads (you want regular flour for those.) You can use regular rice flour, but I finds this gives better results.

I made g-f graham crackers for Mr. Calochortus recently. Now to make marshmallows to go with the Scharffenberger chocolate, so we can have grown-up s’mores on our little upcoming trip to the wilds.

I respect Republicans for the most part. I just hope that they respect themselves and start to get their party back in line with mainstream America and get out of the fringes. They are currently doing no one any good in my opinion.

Moderate Republicans need to be heard by their party. The question is, are they as noisy as the tea party types to get the attention needed?

Your answer might be found in the existing coverage of the republican civil war. Noisy in part gets defined by media coverage, or an unfortunate willingness to go with over the top negative rhetoric or stunts.

Plus the moderates have two sets on opponents. The Tea party/Fundie right, and of course being republicans well the entire left spectrum. Oh one more thing-So many of the moderates just left. Like me and the wife. Tight spot for making policy or party planks change.

I thinks it not going to be possible to have a moderate Conservatism until the Republican Party somehow manages to have the balls of the 1960’s Democrats and repudiate the bigots and religious fanatics. It means that they will have to take their electoral lumps. But that might be the only way to eventually save the Party. The alternative is generations of growing demographics thinking that the Republican Party hates them. That could make losses eternal, so eternal that in the end the Second party is probably the Blue Democrats or something else.

Two GoFundMe pages for Wilson have raised a combined $400k+. One of the two was set up by Shield of Hope, which I profiled previously here at LGF.

The other is a mystery. Efforts by the Los Angeles Times have come up empty on who’s behind the other one.

Nor was The Times able to immediately reach the anonymous founder of the “Support Officer Darren Wilson” page, a user called “Stand Up,” who has raised $235,750 and who has not been officially certified as a verified recipient on the donation page. GoFundMe’s spokeswoman vouched for the anonymous donor in a statement to The Times, however.

In contrast to the other Wilson page and the donation page for Brown, little information has been given to donors about who is running the anonymous fundraising effort.

In a message to visitors two weeks ago, the anonymous Wilson fundraiser page wrote that it was working with Shield of Hope to become a verified recipient. That has not happened. The fundraiser also gave out a pseudonymous Gmail account to users seeking more information, but did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Sunday.

In its statement to The Times, GoFundMe’s spokeswoman said the anonymously run donation page had also been removed from its search results, adding that “this campaign no longer meets GoFundMe’s stated requirement of having a valid Facebook account connected.”

GoFundMe’s security policies encourage users to “only contribute payments to GoFundMe users they personally know and trust. … Unfortunately there is no way to 100% guarantee that a user’s GoFundMe donation page contains accurate or truthful information.”

But spokeswoman Little said GoFundMe “has been in contact with the campaign organizer and has no reason to question their authenticity. Finally, GoFundMe does possess the ability to place a hold on all donations raised by any campaign that warrants further investigation.”

Think about that. $400,000+ for Officer Wilson, and nearly half of that amount was collected by a group that wont let you know who they really are. That’s after GoFundMe had to shut down the comments for becoming a racist and vile cesspool of hate directed at Michael Brown for being shot and killed by Wilson.

Sorry for the late response, I was away.

When I used Republicans in my comment it meant the whole concept and all the people that identify as Republicans. That would be even members here. Just good old everyday Republican people.

I can’t think they are all bad and there just has to be a silent majority in hiding. I think those are good Republicans and I can respect them and their struggle to slap their party upside the head to get its attention. I just don’t think they are doing enough.

Now, if you are talking about current elected Republican politicians, then no, I don’t have a lot of respect for the majority. Right now, they are doing nothing for the all those moderate Republicans and those moderates seem to be ignored.

Thanks for replying. I guess I’ve grown more cynical in my old age; plus I’m surrounded by Republican loons who are, for the most part, mean, unfeeling and stupid. (Not a good combination.)

Also, when I read their party platforms, both national and state, I am almost 100% in disagreement with everything they stand for.
They are, from my perspective, on the wrong side of just about every issue—from education to climate change to taxes to infrastructure, etc. etc.; and they’re unpleasant, to say the least, about any discussion that might ensue.

I think whatever sane Republicans there ever were have now decided to call themselves “independents” so as not to be forced to defend the party lunacy. They really rely heavily on the “No True Scotsman” logical fallacy, but I’m not buying it.

Although, Perry doesn’t seem to have the backing that W did. I read he signed Steve Schmidt. Don’t think THAT dude has much power. (Sarah Palin)

Come to think of it, I don’t think I have seen him on any (MS)NBC shows lately as a political strategist commentator. He must be busy and can’t be used as he will not be unbiased, even as a noted Republican.

My younger brother just about succumbed to the troofer ideology when he went all Ron Paul so Paul has been troofer for a while.

Ron Paul has been a Troofer the entire time. He and Alex Jones are cut from the same cloth, pretty much.

I think whatever sane Republicans there ever were have now decided to call themselves “independents” so as not to be forced to defend the party lunacy. They really rely heavily on the “No True Scotsman” logical fallacy, but I’m not buying it.

I’m good with “Spineless cowards in denial.” Particularly since they say they’re horrified at where the party is going but keep right on voting the loons back into office.

Cure that stuff. It takes 5 days but the results are so worth it.

You can skip the smoked salt and just replace with regular kosher salt. Add some fresh dill and a bunch of lemon zest for a nice twist. It’s soooo worth it.
