Right Wing Radio Host Larry Elder Posts Fake Photo of “Injured Darren Wilson”

Fraud in the service of racism
Wingnuts • Views: 120,869

Yesterday we began seeing a photo make the rounds on Facebook, purporting to show officer Darren Wilson in a hospital bed with facial injuries — obviously intended to shore up the now-debunked unsourced claim first made by wingnut blogger Jim Hoft that Wilson suffered a fractured eye socket.

This photo was definitively debunked first by LGF contributor CuriousLurker in this comment yesterday morning:

Well that took all of five minutes. The guy’s name was Jim McNeil and he was a freestyle motocross rider who died in 2011 during practice for an exhibition. The photo being used is from 2006, when he crashed & face planted.

These people are disgusting, utterly without shame.

LGF contributor Alouette got a screenshot of another right winger (a horrifically racist cretin) posting it on Twitter later in the day (he has since deleted it):

And now, a short time ago, it was posted by right wing talk radio host Larry Elder at his website (also now deleted, but still visible in Google’s cache):

(h/t: @tumbyMe.)

If you see this photo being touted as “proof” that Darren Wilson was assaulted by Michael Brown before Wilson shot the unarmed Brown in the street (and you probably will, because right wingers always pass this stuff around long after it’s debunked), here’s your proof that it’s a fake.

To reiterate, the photo is actually motocross rider Jim McNeil, and it was taken in October 2006 after he crashed while riding at a friend’s house.

Larry Elder is even dumber than I thought.

5 BeachDem  Sep 3, 2014 4:47:21pm

Did any of the morons who retweeted it point out that it should have been Wilson, not Nelson? (Not even addressing the fact that it looks nothing at all like Wilson, and that there was never any report, even Josie’s fanfic, of Wilson being hospitalized.)

I know—details, details.

The question I always ask wingnut-adjacent FB “friends” when they uncritically post shit like this and (yes, it’s rare) realize what they’ve done is, “OK - now, if the news sources you’re depending on lied to you about this, what else aren’t they telling you the truth about?”

Doesn’t work very often, but it’s deadly when it does.

I loved the comment from someone here that he obviously was given an elephant sized dose of rogaine.

I noticed on Chuckles’ twitter feed that all of his followers are now convinced that lack of evidence is proof that Chuckles is right. About everything.

To the RWNJs, a faith based “fact” trumps a reality based fact every day of the year.

OHH… I like that. I’ll have to add it to my toolbox. I’m really expecting that piece of derp to hit my timeline sometime this evening, already knew it was debunked, but this is the icing on the cake.

Dumb, dumber, or just flat out malicious?

I’m going with malicious. They don’t bother to check their sources? They post based on wishful thinking that this is what Wilson might actually look like had he been as badly injured as Hoft and Chuck Johnson had asserted with absolutely no evidence.

So they continue to spread the lie.

It has to stop.

This isn’t Wilson. Not even close. It’s a guy who died years before Wilson’s name made headlines for killing Michael Brown. In fact, the injuries occurred years before that.

But it doesn’t matter to the right wingers who mindless post this crap based on what a few sites say. All it takes is someone like Hoft or Elder or Johnson to post that this is Wilson, and it spreads, even though it’s easily debunked with a google or tineye search.

It doesn’t even look like Wilson.

This all stinks to hell, and it all starts at the FPD and county police for failing to release any basic information and failing to follow policies and procedures. Throw in Hoft and Johnson’s malicious endeavors, and you’ve got a fecal-matter sandwich for the ages that will undermine any potential prosecution (assuming that the prosecutors will even get that far) by tainting the jury pool.

It’s the same thing with Johnson going after Brown’s juvenile record (which clearly indicates he wasn’t involved in any of the asserted claims by Johnson - that he was involved in a 2d degree murder). Smears for the sake of bolstering Wilson’s possible defenses and going after a guy who was gunned down by a cop even though he was unarmed and witnesses indicate he was surrendering.

Superfly TNT. I’m the mf’ing guns of the Navarone. Hoft and Chuck get to ply smears all around the Internet, and it will end up harming a possible prosecution of a police officer who gunned down an unarmed black man under suspicious circumstances.

It’s undermining the justice system and it’s one more reason minority communities like Ferguson don’t trust the justice system.

The justice system in Ferguson essentially treats the residents like a piggy bank, and keeps them entrenched in poverty and misery.

It all has to change.

Ferguson is hardly alone, but it’s the most high profile at the moment.

26 ausador  Sep 3, 2014 5:02:08pm

Glad to see that racist vdare linking “Six” finally deleted the tweet, it was still up this afternoon.

Must have had 20 replies that linked to the story on James McNeil that the photo came from and ones pointing out that McNeil was dead and deserved some respect.

Lots of gullible wingnut replies were still being posted though along with some fake, but accurate types. “Yeah, so it isn’t him, but he probably looked just like that!”

Suffice it to say that the summary of RWNJ/GOPers and their politics and policy positions that WindUpBird would occasionally post back before I’d registered here is a good start. As I recall, it went something like this:

“These people and their party are dogshit. Their politics and policy positions are also dogshit.”

Admirably brief and to the point.

Yeah, they’ll likely be looking at other police departments in the greater STL area, which is a good start considering that many have similar statistics that Ferguson does - majority minority residents, overrepresented minorities in stops and arrests despite whites having more contraband on arrest.

But it has to go beyond just the police departments. It has to look at the policies enacted by the municipal governments that see these residents as a piggy bank and who allow this to go on.

If there is no juvenile record, or if it’s one so minor to be inconsequential, why not just let it be released? This is simply fueling the opinion that he had issues before turning 18.

While they want everything pout in print for the officer, they are still holding on to the opinion that Brown was a saint. Piece by piece that’s being refuted with video and audio .

“Character Assassination” only applies to things you actually did? But calling a public servant a “murderer” based on lies is just fine. Prayers are with Officer Wilson who is being “assassinated” in the media following one of the most traumatic events that can occur in one’s life.

re: #86 thedopefishlives

I’ve seen a number of wingnuts harping on about the “He was 6’ 4”, 300 lbs, of course he was armed” meme. So a man’s physical size determines whether or not he poses a danger to a police officer, often on the larger side themselves, armed with police martial training, a gun, and (presumably) other non-lethal weapons? BULLSHIT.

Not to mention the ‘roids. Never forget the ‘roids. Little balls, lots of back acne, lots of rage.

Pissed?

It goes beyond the black communities not trusting police. I no longer trust them (white, female, 54 YO). Others like me don’t trust them. It’s not solely civil rights, it’s our constitutional rights. Yes it impacts the communities having more people of color, but it’s spreading to all communities (but the wealthiest) where Americans are looked at as guilty shitheels first, Americans somewhere down the list.

Mentally unbalanced kids getting killed by police.

People exercising their rights getting treated like fucking terrorists.

Police are supposed to protect us. We now need protection FROM the police.

I meant to share a personal anecdote from a couple of weeks ago. I was walking out from work when I saw, across the street, a group of four St. Paul police officers. Behind me was a young black man who appeared to have some form of mental disability. I was legitimately worried to the point where I pulled out my iPhone and was ready to flip to the camera if the need arose. I thought to myself later, I shouldn’t have to react that way. I shouldn’t have to fear for my - or others’ - safety around police officers.

Just noticed something too. Said pic states…

“…in violation of MGL-c265-s13B…”

That would be impossible because MGL-c265-s13B is in reference to penalties for said crime.

Section 13B. Whoever commits an indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14 shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than 10 years, or by imprisonment in the house of correction for not more than 21/2 years. A prosecution commenced under this section shall neither be continued without a finding nor placed on file.

In a prosecution under this section, a child under the age of 14 years shall be deemed incapable of consenting to any conduct of the defendant for which such defendant is being prosecuted.

Doesn’t make sense. You can’t violate a penalty.

Chuck doesn’t even rate “delusions of grandeur”…it’s almost enough to make one feel sorry for the turd.

Almost.

I have to admit that I stole that from my dear departed Mom. She was a practicing Psychologist working for a few years in the State Mental Health System as a contractor. The comment was in reference to her ‘Superior’, who was deeply entrenched in the Illinois Civil Service System. I think she approves of the use here.

I’m glad my high school didn’t have such a thing. Living in Indiana, I can tell you that racist sentiment was not exactly concealed. I don’t think the school consciously thought of that, but in retrospect, that could’ve ended very badly.

We only had it because it was a magnet school, and it was amongst all the magnet schools in the district (4 at that point) and they limited us to 2 hours on it a day. Which was horrible when you were 14 and typing overly long replies into the politics message board.

My responses have gotten shorter since then.

Epidemics like this have a worrying habit of expanding beyond the borders of any one country, particularly in recent decades due to the prevalence of air travel. I imagine world leaders are not going to take this particular outbreak seriously until it shows up in their own backyards.

Well, that scandal can’t have involved you know who, because I doubt he was a varsity hockey player or we would have heard about it by now.

But, true to form, the Stormfront headline about the Bill Bennett/race thing at Milton was “Boston: Blacks Threaten to Kill Whites at Prep School …” because of course it was. (not linking—not looking.)

379 darthstar  Sep 3, 2014 9:14:08pm

So I shared the link howdovaccinescauseautism.com on facebook and had a couple of friends share it too.

They fucking don’t.

First, I got a direct message from a gal I know whom I met at Bonnaroo 10 years ago. She’s had two kids since then, the older is now in 1st grade, and the younger has been diagnosed with Autism. She thanked me for my post and said she appreciated the humor, but that she couldn’t respond publicly because too many other mothers in her circle actually believe vaccines cause autism.

The second thing that happened was a hilarious thread caused when one friend of mine reposted it, and one of his friends said, “I haven’t read the article (it’s three words), but what I’ve heard…blah blah blah”. My buddy told the guy to just click the link and he said he’d do so later in the evening. I chimed in that it required a serious read with a glass of wine, preferably. Two other people chimed in about my comment supporting me, and the anti-vaxxer (who still hadn’t read the link) confirmed that he was with me and would give it a serious read tonight…I suspect he’s read it by now because he’s stopped responding in the thread.

Fucking hilarious.

I imagine you are thinking of the Portsmouth Sinfonia which, per Teh Wiki,

was an orchestra founded by a group of students at the Portsmouth School of Art in England, in 1970. The Sinfonia had an unusual entrance requirement, in that players had to either be non-musicians, or if a musician, play an instrument that was entirely new to them.
[…]
The only rules were that everyone had to come for rehearsals and that people should try their best to get it right and not intentionally try to play badly.

Brian Eno produced their first two albums. Basically, they stopped playing in 1979 because they were starting to become competent adequate.

This reminds me of a work colleague (30 years ago, dear God!) A proficient classical musician, he and three others formed an ensemble that also followed the latter rule: each had to play an instrument they were utterly unfamiliar with.

They called themselves the Florence Foster Jenkins Quartet.

Ebola just isn’t that kind of threat to a country with a decent medical infrastructure, because it’s not contagious unless the infected person is actually showing symptoms, and it’s spread by direct contact only. Like smallpox. Extremely contagious (if you have symptoms) extremely deadly, controllable by quarantine.

Of course it would be nice if, like smallpox, we had a vaccine.

Yeah, Ebola is very much a danger in nations where the level of health care is poor to none. But even a moderately effective health care system can stop it cold. All it takes is a quarantine of the infected and those they came in contact with after they began bleeding out. We’re not talking a plague that moves through the air or casual touch, you have to come in physical contact with bodily fluids.

dog’s general theory of disasters states that it would be unreasonable to expect disasters to space themselves out evenly so’s you could deal with em one at a time

therefore, they tend to clump

sometimes a number of big hairy disasters clump together and make each other worse

Air conditioning also helps, if the healthcare personnel are wearing a lot of protective gear.

Heard a person interviewed, who noted that wearing a biohazard suit when it’s 90F-100F and humid in the hospital, and hotter in the suit, is a recipe for automatic, unthinking actions like wiping sweat out of your eyes - which is extremely dangerous when dealing with something like Ebola.

Probably the single most important way developed-world people can protect themselves from Ebola is to use lots of hand sanitizer if you use the bathroom on a plane or in an airport. That’d be the most likely route for it to be transmitted from a sick passenger to other passengers.

You definitely don’t want to use the jet’s bathroom and then eat a sandwich, or rub your eyes, without using Purell first.

To be extra-safe, take a shower as soon as possible after the flight, in case there’s ebola on yo’ ass.

You have to have had direct contact with the infected person or his/her bodily fluids. So, unless you’re in the habit of sitting on wet toilet seats in public bathrooms, you’re unlikely to be infected with ebola by using a public bathroom. Washing your hands is always a good precaution (Purell is not necessary when clean water is at hand), and if you’re really paranoid, open the door latch using a paper towel or tissue.

“Lots of hand sanitizer”? A few drops is all you need.

True, but they’re at the source of the infection. Jonhendry was talking about infections from airline toilets, which are much less likely to be ebola vectors.

That said, you can contract plenty of other infections from public restrooms if you’re careless about your personal hygiene.

Agreed, but washing your hands, unless you are bleaching them, is not going to stop this virus, because inhaling the off-gassing of an infected corpse is a viable pathway. Ouch.

It’s a motherfucker of a problem, and international air travel makes me cringe.

At the source of the infection, in roasting hot suits, and following an extremely stringent protocol after fourteen-hour days of brutal work. This in a situation where one slip can get you infected. Like taking off protective garments in the wrong order.

It’s a wonder than only a few of the western medical personnel have been infected.

(Purell isn’t much use against viruses, Given the choice, soap and water are the way to go. It’s also effective against other infectious agents.)

“You have to have had direct contact with the infected person or his/her bodily fluids. So, unless you’re in the habit of sitting on wet toilet seats in public bathrooms, you’re unlikely to be infected with ebola by using a public bathroom.”

Right, but the most likely place to have that kind of exposure would be a plane or airport bathroom. Body fluids are present, and travellers, who could include people coming from locations where ebola exposure is a risk.

And I wouldn’t necessarily assume it would only be on the toilet seat. It’s not like body fluids are luminous so you can see where they splattered. Numerous times, I have seen public bathrooms in a state that doesn’t seem possible. Even in places where everyone using it is an adult professional. And this was in buildings, where turbulence and tight spaces and seatbelt signs aren’t an issue.

I would guess a fair % of airplane passengers using the bathroom will have to go so bad that they may not have time to make the optimal sanitary arrangements.

For normal day-to-day American life, the risk from bathrooms would be far, far lower, basically non-existent. I was mostly writing for the benefit of people who really worry about ebola spreading in the US.

Back in the 1980s, we didn’t have the Internet. Therefore, in terms of reading and communication, the techniques and tools we have now are far better.

Regarding my methods, to put it broadly, I benefited from three major aspects: a. the training I received as an engineering student; b. reading extensively since I was young; c. the mutual respect, including my interactions with interviewees.

Even less than that.

The cartridge isn’t surrounded by anything as strong as the chamber of a firearm, so most of the powder’s energy is wasted blowing the brass apart, rather than propelling the bullet. Much of the energy is directed roughly perpendicular to the arrow’s trajectory, rather than forward or backwards in line with the trajectory.

The reviews on YouTube aren’t particularly glowing. At over $6 each, plus the cost of the bullet, plus the cost of the arrow shaft that will probably be damaged, it’s a lot of money for an arrow head that’s no more effective than a .22 fired from a rifle, and far less effective than a broadhead.

About all the bullet really gets you is a pop when the arrow hits.

re: #471 Pie-onist Overlord

What’s funny is the hypocritical nature of non-business owner citizens stating how much a burger sandwich assembly specialist should or shouldn’t make.

Typically, they espouse freedom for business owners to make business decisions to affect their business. What business owners pay their employees is absolutely none of their business.

Also, they espouse ‘free market principles.’ They are free to purchase expertly crafted burgers by well paid BSAS’s, or not. They can pay $6.50 down the street or $6.95 for the higher quality burger.

So they should just STFU with their non-libertyfreedoms ramblings.

Top question at al Qaeda, ISIS, al Shabaab, etc.

Who does Number 2 work for?

Why? Because the US has managed to hit the top leaders for those groups, and it’s no longer clear who the number 2 guy is working for. It’s not a job with lots of job security.

But the RWNJs keep bleating that Obama’s weak on terrorism, when by any objective measure he’s done a good job of keeping the nation safe from further attacks by AQ, ISIS, etc.

ISIS is a regional threat that has potential to hit US interests overseas, and that means going after ISIS leadership, but that’s what the US has been doing for some time now. It also means that Iraqis and Syrians have to step up.

Al Shabaab or JI aren’t slouches either, and both remain regional threats. The US isn’t ignoring those either. Boko Haram is another regional threat, but one that the local authorities need to take more decisive action in addressing as well. The US can and is helping with logistics and training/tactics, but the primary US goal is protection of US interests.

For one, that’s how food borne illnesses get their start, by cutting corners and people not paying attention or being told to cut those corners by cheap ass management fuckwads. Secondly, do you really want people who are sick and cannot afford to take a day off, or will get fired if they do making your food? I sure as hell don’t. And third, do they really think people are just going to stop eating fast food and cook it at home? Hahahahaha, tell me another one. re: #493 Ryan King

What’s also lost on lots of these people is that these jobs aren’t just for college part timers or after school jobs for high schoolers. You’ve got people working full time (or trying to at least) at these positions, and they’re not easy jobs to be on your feet 8 hours a day prepping and cooking food while adhering to proper food preparation to make sure someone doesn’t get food poisoning.

The minimum wage hasn’t kept up with inflation so it’s not worth nearly as much as it should. That needs to be fixed. Doing so would put more money in the pockets of workers, who would turn around and spend it on stuff they want, not just what they need. That in turn stimulates demand for more items, increasing the number of jobs.

Where does all that money that goes to wages come from? It means slightly less profit at the end of the day for shareholders of companies like McDs, which make money hand over fist. Or, they could raise prices fractionally to cover the costs, and the result would still be a workforce that is more stable and more willing to go the extra mile for the company.

A happier workforce is a better workforce, and some more enlightened companies realize this, so they pay more than minimum wage even though they don’t have to.

O’Reilly Has Some Advice About ‘The Daily Show’: Never Trust A ‘Partisan-Driven Program’ (VIDEO)

Although O’Reilly said Stewart had conveniently omitted comments that were critical of the Ferguson police and sympathetic to Brown, he didn’t get too bent out of shape about the comedian’s “distortions.”

But O’Reilly closed with some advice to Fox viewers that was more than a little rich.

“So, here is the Factor tip of the day: When you hear something on a partisan-driven program, do not believe it,” O’Reilly told his audience. “And that includes the ‘net. Don’t believe this stuff. I’m hoping taking out the leaders takes down ISIS.

Also, do not many of the M.E. soldiers wave guns around talk a big game and then when hell rains down they jump out of their tanks and fox holes and run? I’m thinking there is a history of this occurring. I remember hearing of Egyptian armies abandoning equipment and running in the ‘67 war.

Along comes ISIS with a new leader to rile up a whole new group and bam they are the new big thing.

Didn’t some of Saddam’s soldiers give up?

I guess I am thinking that some of these radicals talk big, but when the time comes, they aren’t all that into it after all.

Am I right, wrong?

I think you’re both right and wrong. :-)

Different people react differently. How many of Sadam’s soldiers wanted to be there? How many felt they had to?

I think radicals are different because many are willing to die for their cause. And I think I’m ok with assisting in those goals.

The whole golfing thing is insane. When I’m writing something I often sit and state at nothing - for hours - because I’m thinking. I visualize flow, content, etc., then I type (85 wpm) and finish in no time.

Thinking can be done anywhere. Relaxing while thinking helps you think better.

It’s a stupid complaint.

It’s a standard business school meme that “great leaders” (whatever that means) have a tendency to protect their own personal time. You always hear stories from business gurus about how great CEO Jack Whateverson used to spend three hours every morning taking apart his 1953 Chevy and putting it together again.

I always think it’s pretty funny because those same “great leaders” are cracking the whip for their white collar peons to be in the office from 8 to 8 every day and double on Saturdays.

Maine Gov. LePage On The Border: Look At How China ‘Built A Wall’

Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) suggested that if a fence can’t be built high enough to keep illegal immigrants from coming into the country, then one idea is to look to how the Great Wall of China was built.

LePage made the comments on Wednesday during a visit at the Nexxlinx call center in Orono, Maine, according to the Bangor Daily News.

“They are going to our schools, and that’s a real problem for me,” LePage said. “If we can’t build a fence high enough…we ought to go to China and see how they built a wall.”

The audience laughed in response, according to the Daily News.

Could someone please remind these dipshits that most of the land across the entire US-Mexico border is privately owned? Building their fantasy wall would require teh ebil gubmint zomg seizing that land via eminent domain, then forcing themselves on the private land they didn’t pay for in order to transport workers, materials, and equipment to build.

They say they want a wall, but if Obama went through with it and actually seized the necessary land to build it, they’d threaten to fire up their scooters and storm the White House gates.

I understand that they’re very hard to come by - demand is outstripping supply in a lot of stores.

It’s easy to see why. I play in a three piece band, and having one of these will turn it into the sonic equivalent of a four piece band.

Our borders are wide open to drug and human traffickers. Terrorism could come to Oklahoma just as easily.”

OUTRAGE!

Has Greenwald, Inc. Peaked?

Finally, and perhaps most significantly, the international environment has changed dramatically for the worse since the first Snowden revelations. The horrifying rise of what may be al Qaeda’s even more barbaric successor, the Islamic State, along with new threats from Russian President Vladimir Putin and others, has reoriented discussion back toward the perils that the NSA programs were intended to thwart in the first place.

In late July Omidyar announced on his blog that he was no longer as intent on creating a “big flagship website” for First Look Media, saying, “We have definitely rethought some of our original ideas and plans.” The founder said that instead he wanted to “test more ideas” for reaching a “mass audience.” Asked whether the new company was wavering or uncertain of its mission, Greenwald said that Omidyar is “more committed than ever to building the Intercept … People instinctively look for evidence of ‘wavering’ with new enterprises — it’s the human desire to see others fail — but anyone looking for that here is going to be sorely disappointed.”

Media outlets will cover the fact that HuffPo is hiring Troofer Donte Stallworth (whose foreign policy expertise is what exactly? Being able to read cover-2 defenses or the nickle and 46 defense just doesn’t count) for their foreign policy gig.

That’s a good thing. There’s no room for conspiracy nuts in these places. If they want to bark at the moon, let them do it on their own. They don’t need a platform from which to do so.

But few will actually highlight the rampant racism and white supremacist doctrine/linking that is pervading right wing media sites.

That’s a huge problem. Fox News is increasingly incorporating these racist and white supremacist links, thanks in large part for Drudge mainstreaming them (along with conspiracy nutters too - like Alex Jones).

BarbWire: Obama Worships Satan, Will Be Caliph Of ‘Marxist-Islamic North American Caliphate’

The world is in the most dire condition it has ever been and Obama is one of those leading the charge for its establishment as an Islamic slave state. In order to do so, the elimination of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is necessary. Obama has already firmly indicated that he is up to the task. Even the dullest amongst us should be able to see just who and what Obama is now. The Lord of the universe is no longer amused.

And because Erik Rush hates being ignored:

Erik Rush: Obama May ‘Orchestrate Terrorist Strike’ Against US, Give ISIS Base In New Mexico

Whether Obama intends to seize absolute power via martial law after a comprehensive White House-orchestrated terrorist strike or use his jihadi army to aid in pacifying an unsuspecting American populace matters little. The bottom line is that the decisive measures needed to defeat ISIS and to protect American citizens from them will never be taken by this president, and it should be obvious as to why. This nation now faces extreme and unprecedented crises, and apart from an Act of God, they will only be resolved through extreme and unprecedented measures.

The removal of the Obama regime, extrication of Islamists from our government, the closure of our southern border, drastically heightened security procedures and the summary expulsion or prosecution of anyone who even remotely resembles an Islamist or who supports that worldview are now absolute imperatives.

Ha!

BREAKING: Federal Appeals Court Withdraws Decision Defunding Obamacare

In July, two Republican judges on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit handed down a decision defunding much of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This effort to implement Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) top policy priority from the bench was withdrawn on Thursday by the DC Circuit, and the case will be reheard by the full court — a panel that will most likely include 13 judges. In practical terms, this means that July’s judgment cutting off subsidies to consumers who buy insurance plans in federally-operated health exchanges is no more. It has ceased to be. It is, in fact, an ex-judgment.

The reason why this matters is because the plaintiffs in this lawsuit, known as Halbig v. Burwell, are hustling to try to convince the GOP-dominated Supreme Court to hear this case, where they no doubt believe that they have a greater chance of succeeding than in the DC Circuit, as a majority of the active judges in the DC Circuit are Democrats. The Supreme Court takes only a tiny fraction of the cases brought to their attention by parties who lost in a lower court — a study of the Court’s 2005 term, for example, found that the justices granted a full argument to only 78 of the 8,517 petitions seeking the high Court’s review that term. The justices, however, are particularly likely to hear cases where two federal appeals courts disagree about the same question of law.

Two hours after the divided DC Circuit panel released its opinion attempted to defund Obamacare, a unanimous panel of the Fourth Circuit upheld the health subsidies that are at issue in Halbig. Thus, so long as both decisions remained in effect, Supreme Court review was very likely. Now that the full DC Circuit has vacated the two Republican judges’ July judgement, Supreme Court review is much less likely.

Yeah, some of the most vicious anti-Semitic nonsense came out of the old Russian Empire and Eastern Europe. Which means what to an investigation of why Wilson shot Brown?

NOTHING.

For fuck’s sake, CCJ doesn’t get that the stepfather (who wasn’t involved in the incident at all) has nothing to do with the incident.

It’s the same thing with media trying to dig up information about Wilson’s family or that his parents were divorced. That is irrelevant to Wilson’s actions on the day he shot Brown.

What we need to know is what Wilson’s actions were that day, whether he had any disciplinary actions or any other items on his record that might indicate he engaged in poor policing, and what the policies and procedures were for a stop in Ferguson and how and where he deviated from them.

That means looking at Wilson’s actions - not those of an individual who is not even a party to the incident except as a grieving relative.

Heben explained that he we went inside the Mustard Seed grocery store but forgot his wallet and came back outside. That’s when he claimed the car nearly ran him over and he was shot in the stomach.

Police said Heben told them he plugged the hole in his abdomen and chased the suspects in his vehicle, but when they got on I-77, he drove to the fire department for help.

For our Ohio folks—some good news:

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A federal judge today ruled that cuts to early voting in Ohio must be restored in time for the November election. The American Civil Liberties Union is challenging a state law and directives that have dramatically slashed early voting opportunities in Ohio. The ACLU was in court last month to ask the judge to restore the cuts prior to full trial, in time for the midterm election….

This is a huge victory for Ohio voters and for all those who believe in protecting the integrity of our elections.”

Today’s ruling restores the first week of early voting, often referred to as “Golden Week,” in which voters are able to register and cast a ballot on the same day. It also restores evening early voting, as well as multiple Sundays.

I saw some real derp yesterday (maybe on FR?) about why Obama used the ISIL term rather than ISIS. It was long and convoluted (and stupid) but the theory was that ISIS stands for “Islamic State in Iraq and Syria” as opposed to “Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant” which means Obama wants a much bigger caliphate. Or something. Except that I thought ISIS originally referred to Iraq and al Sham (aka the Levant) but being an unfamiliar term to most Americans, it morphed into Syria.

Also too, Obama pronounces it “ISUL” which spelled backwards did something I can’t recall, but it probably made the Ghost of Christmas Past appear.
