I have been reluctant to say this, but I think we have a Muslim problem in the White House. So where does that leave the Democrats?

Such a wealth of fragrant nuggets.

So, instead of asking “who’s that nobody”, I googled:

Charles Herbert “Chuck” Woolery (born March 16, 1941) is an American game show host.

Wow, that’s a super-intellectual occupation, making Chuck obviously qualified to make analytic pronouncements like the ones above.

5 b_sharp  Sep 12, 2014 3:12:15pm

Just had an ad for a system to spread the gospel staring me in the face.

6 jaunte  Sep 12, 2014 3:12:30pm

He doesn’t seem reluctant.

Dare I ask what set this off?

Before becoming a game-show geek, Chuckles was an actor with minor roles in such awesome films as the incompetent “Treasure of Jamaica Reef,” which was slapped up with gore footage a year after being unable to find a buyer and sold as “Evil in the Deep” to ride the wave of the “Jaws” craze.

I am mortified to admit that Chuck Woolery was the first “famous” person I ever met (back around 1979), because he was on TV. Ironically, at the same time my father’s boss was Captain James Lovell (yes, that James Lovell) and I didn’t think he was famous because he wasn’t on TV. But a game show host—you can tell I was in some ways a very unserious 19 year old.

Now I find his politics appalling. The guy who replaced him on Wheel of Fortune is just as much a right wing nutjob as he is.

Appeals panel reinstates Wisconsin’s voter ID law

A federal appeals court in Chicago Friday reinstated for now Wisconsin’s voter ID law hours after the three-judge panel heard arguments on the subject.

The move by the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals clears the way for the state to implement the law for the Nov. 4 election, though it does not stop the ongoing appeal over whether the measure is unconstitutional.

“The state of Wisconsin may, if it wishes (and if it is appropriate under rules of state law), enforce the photo ID requirement in this November’s elections,” the unsigned two-page order reads.

The Indonesian state political philosophy is adamantly monotheistic, officially recognizing only six religions, including Christianity. Atheists have been targeted for extreme violence, especially during the anti-communist purges of the 1960’s. Being a Christian there is a comparative cake-walk, they make up the largest of the religious minorities and have it much easier than say Hindus, another officially recognized religious minority, who are sometimes ignorantly and erroneously targeted as polytheists.

The thing about Christianity is that it’s essentially founded on the idea of being persecuted. For many, many Christians, to be “like Christ” means to be targeted, being a “good Christian” is equated with being unfairly singled out and violently opposed.

So when reality doesn’t offer them this experience organically they either seek it out or invent it from whole cloth.

The threat from Islamic State has had an important silver lining, he said. It has focused the world’s attention on the need to “ultimately snuff out this particular brand of Islamic extremism that really has no place in the 21st century.”

The man had such a way with words. I literally cringed when I heard president Obama use the word homeland the other day. I still give him high marks but what once used to be his strong point, language, is something he seems to be tripping over.

Umm, I think you’re thinking of another movie there, though, in the original The Longest Yard, what got Paul Crewe (Reynolds’ character) thrown in prison was smacking and throwing his sugar momma around, stealing her car (a Citroen DS that was referred to as a Maserati in the dialogue LOL) and leading the cops on a high-speed chase, then assaulting the cops who caught him in a bar after he drove the car into the bay.

Yeah. Parents and/or guardians are allowed to do things to kids which would be considered assault and battery if done to an adult. However, if you talk about not spanking kids, OMG, people come stark staring unglued. Some of the Religious Right would come unglued because hitting kids is one of their 10 commandments. These are the same people who think James Dobson gives great childrearing advice, yet in the introduction to The Strong-Willed Child, Dobson talks approvingly of beating his dachshund, Siggie, because the little dog had curled up on top of a fuzzy toilet seat cover on a cold night.

I don’t get why people think it’s ever ok to hit a kid. Especially in anger, but really, not ever. A swat on the behind, lightly is as far as is ok, but beyond that, no and not with an object. All it teaches is anger, fear and that violence is a way of problem solving or forcing people to do what you want.

If you have to resort to hitting, you’ve already lost whatever it was you’re trying to win. I’ve raised an incredibly difficult child. I spanked him once, when he ran into traffic, I retrieved him and he tried it a second time. He and I were in immediate danger and he didn’t grasp the severity of the situation. Beyond that, I never hit either of my kids and we somehow managed to navigate some seriously fucked up situations. Violence shouldn’t be part of family life. It has no place there.

Mom used to get liquored up and stew until she imagined I’d betrayed her in some fashion, then charge at me. Scrubbed my mouth out with soap once—literally ground the bar into my teeth so I spent hours digging the stuff out—but usually it was whatever was swingable and in arm’s reach.

I remember the night she struck me on the back with an unstrung toy archery bow—good solid ’70s resin—because I didn’t side with her in an argument with my father. We were working outside to get away from her endless ranting when she snuck up and nailed me across the shoulder blades. I remember it because I was fifteen and whirled around and popped her right in the mouth and left her in the dirt, shrieking and bawling and whooping and moaning through her bloody slobbering maw.

That’s when she took to killing a family pet once or twice a year and blaming it on an in-law (we lived in the sticks, near Dad’s relatives, and he and they were real pieces of work themselves). Broke a cat’s neck with her bare hands; ran over our big dumb golden lab. If she could no longer hurt me physically, by God she would strike at me in whatever manner she could.

Left home the millisecond I could and never came back, which I’m sure she saw as just another betrayal for she never did anything wrong.

When I was a kid, hitting was a deterrent. There was no attempt at teaching anything, it was a simple - you do something we don’t want you to do and you’ll get hit. My dad did it to my mom, my younger brother and me. My mom did it to my younger brothers and me. I did it to my younger brothers.

It worked rather poorly. That’s one reason I’m sure prison as a deterrent only, doesn’t work.

The mindset CCJ betrays here is that white conservatives vote for republicans because they are white, or at least promise to advance the interests of the white power structure. Actually, minorities DO vote for politicians that advance minorities’ interests. I mean, that’s kinda elementary.

CCJ is dumb enough to boil it down to race, not policy. It’s part of their repeated crap toward blacks, denying them the idea that blacks are voting rationally, to forward their own interests.

White conservatives do the same thing, you know…it’s just that their interests are pretty racial in and of themselves…

I’ve mentioned I was Catholic schooled. The nuns used the old classic paddle. About 4 ” wide, maybe a 1/2” thick and fitted into a nice long handle about 15” long or so.

The nuns would turn it all into a big process and the negative they put on the behavior that would lead to them to have to punish a student was part of the scare and punishment. The mess with your head application.

Add the psych job to your embarrassment with the entire school knowing about it through the “underground” line and you just wanted to die. So, by the time you got three (or whatever) not so violent whacks, you just wanted it all over so you could get to work to make everyone forget it happened and restore your cred.

I got the three whacks for pitching pennies on the one section of the girls parking lot. A bunch of the ‘guys’ got it that day. I think the nuns were really more worried that we were lingering by the girls, as we were all hitting that 12-13 range. It was very important to the nuns to have girl’s side…boy’s side.

And I’m guessing many have also had school administered punishment at one time, or knew those that did. I remember that to this day more than anything my parents ever did. I was the fourth boy, about 8 years behind my brothers and it seemed like I couldn’t get anything over on them (along with the help of the nuns) so it was best just to toe the line.

In the early 90s, it was 50/50 Dem/Repub. They had a real chance to capture the Asian community.

I think they blew it for two reasons: 1) The Prop 180 thing in California; immigration issues are VERY important to Asian Americans, and 2) Republicans didn’t even TRY to win over the Asian vote—-apparently they felt it beneath them. And NOBODY will vote for a group who doesn’t bother to make their support feel valued.

Our nuns made the naughty kids stand at the front of the room holding a HUGE and very heavy book in each hand, with both arms stretched out parallel to the floor. If your arms drifted down, you got a yardstick smacked between your shoulder blades.
If the infraction was really bad, you got a metal edged ruler smacked across your knuckles. We only heard about that particular threat.

The worst we had was an Australian immigrant physics teacher (this was public school, not Catholic school, heh) who would gently smack sleeping students upside the head with a meter stick. If she was feeling generous, she would hit the desk next to them (considerably harder), instead.

re: #156 gwangung

Actually, minorities DO vote for politicians that advance minorities’ interests. I mean, that’s kinda elementary.

Sure, but generally not at the explicit expense of other racial groups, they don’t reward scapegoating like white conservatives do.

CCJ is dumb enough to boil it down to race, not policy. It’s part of their repeated crap toward blacks, denying them the idea that blacks are voting rationally, to forward their own interests.

Right, that’s the point.

White conservatives do the same thing, you know…it’s just that their interests are pretty racial in and of themselves…

It’s that their policies are mean spirited and generally oriented around revenge, fear, and greed. The few minority politicians Republicans do manage to elect tend to hit these notes, and advance policies detrimental to most of those people who look like they do.

I’ve mentioned before - I personally know some people who have suffered from physical and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents or spouses. Remember that I run in Christian circles, so not only is it unthinkable, it’s also invisible - people don’t want to think about their friends, their brothers and sisters, their sons and daughters, who are doing these heinous things. So they just ignore it and hope it’ll Jesus itself away.

I had the nuns 24/7/365 in elementary school, so I got their discipline or none at all. We got the occasional ‘ruler on the palm’ routine, but SERIOUS SHIT went to Sister Mary A’s yardstick, at a formal session on Friday night. It was all very tightly controlled, with a lot of due process. Only once in 5 years did I see a nun lose it, and remember that half of us were court-certified delinquents.

We also lived under a separate military discipline system that relied on walking off ‘gigs’ with a 1903 Springfield, one hour per gig.

It was a whole lot less rough than it sounds and most of us were damned glad to be there.

Sarah Palin: ‘I Owe America A Global Apology’

Yeah, that was really gross behavior you and your family got into last week.

Oh, wait. That’s not what you’re apologizing about?

Here we go.

During an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Palin spoke about Obama’s long-term strategy for defeating the Islamic State — a militant group formerly known as ISIS or ISIL — that he laid out in a speech Wednesday night.

“As I watched the speech last night, Sean, the thought going through my mind is, ‘I owe America a global apology. Because John McCain, through all of this, John McCain should be our president,’” Palin said.

Oh yeah, and Hitler too.

Even a half-wit game show host should know that calling Obama a Muslim today makes even less sense than usual. In his speech yesterday he just promised to get us back into Iraq (hopefully not with troops on the ground), fulfilling neocon wet dreams and insuring that lots of Muslims are about to get killed soon. In other words, he’s doing the exact opposite of what Woolery’s imaginary Muslim bogeyman president would do.

Then again, tea/douche bags have been rambling incoherently since 2007 that Obama is some sort of secret Muslim. Somehow he keeps it secret by using his given middle name Hussein.

African Americans have been saying all along that the legal system is rigged against victims and perpetrators when they are people of color.

Next month, when/if the grand jury doesn’t charge Darren Wilson, thanks to the actions of Ferguson PD and now the STL Prosecuting DA, maybe people will start believing us.

Ferguson tragedy becoming a farce
Dana Milbank, WashPo

…October is when a grand jury is expected to decide whether to indict the white police officer, Darren Wilson, who killed an unarmed black teenager by firing at least six bullets into him. It’s a good bet the grand jurors won’t charge him, because all signs indicate that the St. Louis County prosecutor, Robert McCulloch, doesn’t want them to…

The latest evidence that the fix is in came this week from The Post’s Kimberly Kindy and Carol Leonnig, who discovered that McCulloch’s office has declined so far to recommend any charges to the grand jury. Instead, McCulloch’s prosecutors handling the case are taking the highly unusual course of dumping all evidence on the jurors and leaving them to make sense of it.

McCulloch’s office claims that this is a way to give more authority to the grand jurors, but it looks more like a way to avoid charging Wilson at all — and to use the grand jury as cover for the outrage that will ensue. It is often said that a grand jury will indict a ham sandwich if a prosecutor asks it to. But the opposite is also true. A grand jury is less likely to deliver an indictment — even a much deserved one — if a prosecutor doesn’t ask for it…

Twitter gives me the heebies.

Klys, if you’re looking at preparing roma tomatoes for any sauce, try rubbing them down with olive oil and sprinkling some sea salt and crushed black pepper on ‘em. Smoked garlic powder, or roasted garlic chunks add a good kick too.

If you’re grilling/smoking(applewood is good for me) them, then keep an eye on ‘em until the skin starts to blacken. Then pull ‘em.

You can also broil them in a toaster oven using the same recipe.

What you do w/ them after that will just enhance the flavor.

I know it’s against some unwritten codes, but a pinch of sugar never hurts.
Forward!

Yep. As usual, it’s the extreme examples of things that get a certain segment of the population to realized that the other side lives are NOT as rosy as they seem to think.

Case in point, the difference between seeing peaceful protestors during the Civil Rights Era and then seeing children and young people being hosed down in the street.

Ha. The snow mobiling (oh machine, you elites) group that Todd Palin is involved with and who was mentioned in the Alaska hillbilly hoedown has issued a statement

UPDATE: Iron Dog released a statement to clarify that it was not officially affiliated with the party that took place on Sept 6. “Iron Dog is much more than a race and we are dedicated to developing a positive, family-friendly and entertaining series of events. We host safety expos, conduct a statewide urban-rural student exchange and work with local charities to create positive change all across Alaska,” executive director Kevin Kastner tells E! News. “While there may have been one or two racers involved in the recent party, they do not represent the organization as a whole. It’s regrettable that a story like this has been blown completely out of proportion.” Furthermore, Chris Olds, whom bloggers claimed got swept up in the melee, does not own a home in Anchorage. Olds was, in fact, out of town on a hunting trip.

Palin damage control. Who could’ve imagined?

re: #156 gwangung

Actually, minorities DO vote for politicians that advance minorities’ interests. I mean, that’s kinda elementary.

When minorities vote in their best self-interest, they are moochers and Democrats are buying votes. When white people vote in their self-interest, it’s democracy.
