ISIS Bans Teaching Evolution in Schools

Fanaticism in common
Religion • Views: 58,787

Here’s some common ground between America’s religious right and the jihadis of ISIS: ISIS Bans Teaching Evolution in Schools.

The new Mosul curriculum, allegedly issued by al-Baghdadi himself, stresses that any reference to the republics of Iraq or Syria must be replaced with “Islamic State.” Pictures that violate its ultra-conservative interpretation of Islam will be ripped out of books. Anthems and lyrics that encourage love of country are now viewed as a show of “polytheism and blasphemy,” and are strictly banned.

The new curriculum even went so far as to explicitly ban Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution — although it was not previously taught in Iraqi schools.

Maybe this is why the religious right and social conservatives are so hell-bent on fear-mongering about ISIS — they recognize a mirror image of themselves. Their worst enemy.

If you have something in your hands that looks like a weapon when the cops show up, you need to drop it right then and there. If you don’t, then things are going to go badly for you.

My son is Asian. Not as dangerous to him as being black or native american but not White safe either.

He has serious mental health issues.

What the fuck do I do?

In the end I’m trying to figure out a safe way to teach him that every cop must be presumed to be the enemy until proven a friend.

Yet how do you do that without triggering his latent, & very real, paranoia?

Not just an enemy but a murderous one. Some one who will kill you for no reason at all. My priest has two adopted black boys about the same age as my son. His children are at an even greater threat than my son.

Why, lord, why?

This is so alien from the universe I grew up in.

Do you remember Adam-12? I do.

My son never will..

I am so tired tonight I have no words for it.

Lord have mercy on my little boy…

And if they don’t give you even that little fraction of a second? Our cops are all too fast on the trigger.

DF, I’ve known lots of good people who are police. Spent much time in my life helping to train them. But far too many of them are on a hair trigger. You look at them even slightly wrong and they will be asking your corpse questions rather than you.

But if the cops see someone carrying a what they have been told is a weapon they have to respond, and if they think he’s about to run into a restaurant filled with people they have to stop him from doing so.

As it happened he wasn’t a threat, but the police did not know that at the time.

I. Have. Tried. To. Teach. Them.

I know how much reaction time they have. I have watched how many will shoot long before they have to. If it isn’t white skin, they shoot. The saddest part? The cop can be white, black, brown, yellow or red and it is still the same. If the perp isn’t white he is far more likely to end up in the morgue than in jail.

I have never walked a beat. Once upon a lifetime ago I wanted to. But then I made the mistake of trying to teach cops how to be careful…

TMZ has follow-up on Daniele Watts being briefly arrested and claiming racism in her detention by the LAPD.

The story with TMZ’s additions comes across far less favorably to Ms. Watts. It turns out the police were called because people saw what they believed (and may well have been) was she and her boyfriend having sex in public. Then when the police arrived, Ms. Watts did not just refuse to show her ID, she loudly accused the officer who asked of racism and then pulled the “Don’t you know who I am?!” card.

Note: Sexytime is OK, but not out in public.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. The law’s ignorance makes murder okay.

It’s not ignorance of the law, its not being able to know what threat someone really posed. Self-defense law in this country requires the reasonable belief that the threat was real. If that belief is present, then its not murder even if it turns out what a homeowner thought was a gun was really a lockpick device. That actually happened in Chicago in the last couple years and the homeowner was fully cleared by the police and the state’s attorney.

35 Shazam  Sep 15, 2014 9:10:55pm

re: #31 Dark_Falcon

The “law” in my second sentence is the police. They didn’t know, so they started shooting. If you think that’s justified, you’re sick. As others have pointed out, when the suspect is white and has an actual weapon, the police seem reluctant to do them any harm and manage to subdue them without injury. When this happens to kids, white kids at least, everyone is outraged, but those police didn’t know the kids’ toys weren’t weapons either.

When the police “don’t know” something, they should find out. “Shoot first and ask questions later” shouldn’t be the police’s motto.

When I was 16 I got pulled over for driving a corvette. The owner was sitting next to me. I was pulled over because “girls don’t drive cars like this” and they wanted to make sure it wasn’t stolen.

I *railed* on that cop and called him every name in the book, while cop and owner chuckled at me pitching a fit.

I told them both it get fucked.

Nowadays, I’d probably have been arrested because sexism, like racism or homophobia is okie dokie to the cops, and they are never, ever to be questioned.

But what’s the cop supposed to do? He gets a call about a crime, albeit a minor one and responds. When he does, he gets a very belligerent response to a request for ID. What’s he done wrong? He hadn’t made any accusations or said anything inappropriate. Should he have just ignored his dispatcher?

I’d also note that claiming special status as she did is not the sort of thing a person who has done nothing wrong will do; It’s something done by people who are trying to claim their status should allow them to evade the consequences of their actions.

Given the nature of what ISIS is, it isn’t surprising at all that they wouldn’t tolerate the teaching of science that contradicted their fundamentalist religious ideology. From Assange’s reddit AMA, declaring victory in aiding Snowden’s flight:

[I]n the race to spirit Edward Snowden to asylum vs. Washington DC’s race to arrest him, we won, demonstrating that with a few good ideas and some determination it is possible to beat this power cluster in a well defined head on contest.Solutions are going to come form the demand that organisations, governments and individuals have for protection.

Not to downplay Assange’s role (sending Sarah Harrison w/ the Ecuadorian “Safe Pass”, advising Snowden to give up on HK and that Russia was the only country that could protect him, etc) but hasn’t defection to Russia been an option for high profile fugitives for quite some time? When I was 18 I was pulled over for smoking a pipe while driving on the freeway. The cop took it from me, told me very gently that if I had more I should give it to him or else he’d search the car… I gave him the tiny little pill-box full out of my purse, he didn’t search and find the 12 quarter-oz bags under my seat. I didn’t even have to step out of the car.

He wrote me up a misdemeanor summons for possession of under an ounce, I had to appear in court and was fined $140.

(sadly, it was the same courthouse my mother practiced in; our last name is uncommon, and I sorta looked like her. Somebody told her.

Having to have That Discussion with my mother was a far more serious penalty than the $140 fine.)

Hmm. I just noticed something in the giraffe picture I posted in comment #64. My camera somehow transposed the baby giraffe’s neck to the right and in front of the adult giraffe it was behind.

Some sort of digital imaging artifact I guess from snapping the photo and there being a bit of image delay or something with a moving subject. It’s not an effect from cropping and shrinking the image since it is the same in the full-size JPEG downloaded off the camera.

Which, in a way, makes the “evolution, what evolution?” caption a bit more amusing.

The blast took place on the airport road near the US embassy.

Afghan officials say a suicide car bomber carried out the attack. The Taliban says it was responsible.

And the plain fact of the matter is that British society could get by perfectly well without the contribution even of moderate Muslims. The only thing we really want from Muslims is their oil money for bank deposits, to prop up London property prices and to sustain the luxury market; their cheap labor that we imported in the 1960s in a vain effort to bolster the dying textile industry, which could not find local labor, is now redundant. In other words, one of the achievements of the bombers and would-be bombers is to make discrimination against most Muslims who wish to enter Britain a perfectly rational policy.

I wonder sometimes if mankind is entering into a new dark age.

Odd. I have the exact opposite feeling. All this cultist crap in the West is the powers that be reacting to the realization that they’re losing cultural and political control over the United States. Once that’s gone, I think it’s going to have a snowball effect — once some of those “christians” feel comfortable coming out as Atheists you’re going to see them leave the influence of the cults, which will compound nicely. Pushing it forward would be a “Neo-Deism” movement in the states… “Christianity lite: Now with less hogwash!”

… That might be a fun project.

East… east is a big huge mess. I want to repeat the tired old meme of them being a few hundred years behind us culturally but every time I type that it feels racist somehow.

Still, I think eventually they’re going to get tired of being repressed by a bunch of violent cultists in their society — when we start to hear about “morality police” being set upon by angry mobs who have had enough, or village elders declaring honor rape punishments being murdered in retaliation, that might be the turning point.

It’s all moot anyway. We just have to last till 2050 and the Singularity, after all. ;)

Americans got sold on the idea that more policemen = better police protection without giving any thought to the quality of training and the level of professionalism needed.

Not to mention a certain point of diminishing returns - a handful of bad cops can undo the work of a lot of good ones, although events in Ferguson tend to indicate that the rot goes all the way to the top and beyond.

Indeed, there are people who do not see the expansion of civil rights to women, blacks, gays, workers, immigrants, Muslims, etc., as progress of any kind. Rather, they are horrified. It’s depressing to think about it, but civil rights still need to be defended and protected — constantly — because there are small but influential groups of people who are ready and willing to take them away.

Pregnant Jill Duggar and new husband Derick Dillard create registry for ‘Baby Dilly’ in new Instagram snap

By Alexa Rae Johnson for MailOnline

Jill Duggar is one of 19 children in her family, as seen on the TLC reality television show 19 Kids And Counting.

And now, the fourth oldest Duggar offspring is 12 weeks pregnant with her very own first child, due March 24.

Jill and her husband of 12 weeks Derick Dillard shared a snap to Instagram showing the couple in the midst of registering for ‘Baby Dilly’s arrival’.

‘Having fun creating our baby registry!’ father-to-be Dillard, 25, captioned his Instagram picture.

He then added: ‘Looking forward to “Baby Dilly’s” arrival in just 6 months!’

According to UsWeekly, ‘the proud future parents have multiple registries, including one on Amazon.’

‘So far, the two have requested a three-piece crib bedding set with a vintage floral print, pacifiers and bibs emblazoned with Arkansas Razorbacks logos, and a portable video surveillance system.’

I think the point is that there was allegedly unlawful activity going on (sex in a public place). IF so, then it was not a cop’s whim to ask for an ID.

But that is another point. I think it is a very sad statement out our society that we think two people acting a bit romantic, even if in bad taste, warrants a police inquisition. You’re arguing that if a couple looks like they are, as the young started to put it a few years ago, “hook up”, then we ought to think “prostitution.”

The obsession in this country with hyper-vigilant morality over sex (and addictive behaviors) causes its own problems, and I think some of them are really now damaging our society.

There are online companies which arrange for “sugar daddy” meetings between women and men (usually). These are expensive. It escapes laws against prostitution. So if you have the $$$ you can essentially hire a mistress for sexcapades. But if you are poor - then we send the police after you.

This gets repeated over and over in our society in all sort of venues and issues.

Texas Gun Shop Goes Full Mental Wingnut

Marquees are often used by businesses to grab the attention of people passing by, and while one Houston gun shop is doing just that, some say the decidedly anti-Obama message is a bit much. And it’s not the first time the shop has seen controversy over the messages on its sign either.

“We’ve tried to educate people,” CEO of Tactical Firearms, Jeremy Alcede, told KHOU.

“I look and see what’s going on throughout the week, realize what’s an issue, what needs to be fixed, and if I think it’s important then that’s what I’ll voice my opinion,” Alcede explained.

The sign outside the shop, which is changed every Wednesday, currently displays, “Does one of Obama’s family members have to be beheaded for ‘change’ to happen?”

Bolding mine.

It’s not even about prostitution (which should be legal anyway) - it’s about whether a cop acting on a call about alleged public sex is acting on a whim (regardless of whether prostitution is involved). I don’t think she necessarily does, and I don’t think asking for an ID is necessarily abusive in such a situation. In general.

In this particular situation the cop quickly became abusive. But I’m not sure the initial action (asking for IDs and very briefly detaining the couple after the refusal) was in itself abusive.

One of the nicest things about driving to Toronto is driving through the wind orchards. Those wind engines are beautiful and majestic. I don’t understand why some people complain they are “unsightly.”

While Googling for pictures of the wind orchards I came across a bunch of websites which are totally hating on the wind orchards.

Also these things are freaking HUGE. We passed a convoy on the 401 carrying a turbine blade. It was being carried on a special hauler that had to be as large as several 18-wheeler container trucks end to end.

I saw some on the highway in Illinois and Indiana — there’s some wind farms there, too. I had no idea those blades are so big! Also explains why wind turbines self-destruct in such a spectacular way when one of the blades fails.

Child Accidentally Shot By Mother In Domestic Dispute

Late Sunday night, Murfreeboro police came to a downtown apartment complex after receiving a report of a shot fired.

They arrived to find a woman inside with a 9mm handgun.

Police believe she pulled it out during a heated argument with her boyfriend — the father of her daughter.

“The two were involved in a verbal and then physical confrontation with the use of deadly force,” said Kyle Evans with the Murfreesboro Police Dept.

Police said the woman fired a single round at her boyfriend and in a bizarre twist the same bullet hit both the child and her father.

The police incident report showed the bullet hit the boyfriend in the groin then traveled through him and struck their one-year-old child, who was sitting several yards away, in the rear-end.

Greets and saluts from the so-far-soggy NYC metro area. It’ll clear up later this morning, but the commute was far from enjoyable.

Making the commute even less enjoyable was reading how the sovereign citizen movement is spreading like a virus and causing more problems for the justice system through their lawfare on government officials. Filing bogus liens against properties and otherwise tying up valuable resources and time of the courts to deal with these bogus claims.

Some states have begun to clamp down on the filing of these liens, but this is a movement that poses a more direct and immediate threat to the US than ISIS. They are already here and are already carrying out attacks. They think nothing of murdering LEOs. And the movement appears to be active in all 50 states.

Far fewer - by several orders of magnitude - are killed by wind turbines than by fossil fuel emissions. Fossil fuel emissions and the production of same also results in toxic materials that are released into the biosphere, resulting in potentially fatal exposures.

Subject to some caveats about data collection, wind power is safer than the fossil fuel emissions - especially coal.

According to one estimate, wind power may kill 328,000 birds annually.

Coal by itself kills 7.9 million.

The wind power tallies are from actual studies done. The oil and gas figure is from the BLM and used different methodologies. Coal used still others, but the facts are clear - fossil fuels kill significantly more birds than wind or solar despite the fear-mongers.

Here’s a 2006 editorial in Rodong Shinmun.

rjkoehler.com

Note that I haven’t checked whether this blog links to any non-kosher sites, since this is irrelevant, for my primary source is Dr. Lankov’s translation here, which corresponds to the English version.

Recently, in South Korea, a strange game pursuing the weakening of the fundamental character of our race and making society “multiethnic and multiracial” is unfolding.
Those responsible for this commotion are spreading confounding rumors like South Korea is a “multiracial area” mixed with the blood of Americans and several other races, how we must “overcome closed ethnic nationalism,” and we must embrace “the inclusiveness and openness of a multiethnic nation” like the United States.
The words themselves take a knife to the feeling of our people, but even more serious is that this anti-national theory of “multiethnic, multiracial society” has already gone beyond the stage of discussion. Already, they’ve decided that from 2009, content related to “multiracial, multiethnic culture” would be included in elementary, middle and high school textbooks that have until now stressed that Koreans are the “descendents of Dangun,” “of one blood line” and “one race,” and to change the terms “families of international marriage” and “families of foreign laborers” to “multicultural families.”
This is an outrage that makes it impossible to repress the rage of the people/race.
To start from the conclusion, the argument for “multiethnic, multiracial society” cried for by pro-American flunkeyists in South Korea is an unpardonable argument to obliterate the race by denying the homogeneity of the Korean race and to make an immigrant society out of South Korea, to make it a hodgepodge, to Americanize it.
The race (ethnic group) is a social unit of ethnic components formed historically and a community sharing the same fate, and said race exists because it has a character that distinguishes it from other races. Ethnic identity becomes an important weapon in personal and social development. Because of this, all races value their uniqueness and highlight their excellence, and by doing so give strength to awakening and unifying the components of the race. Today, with the wave of “globalization” inundating the world, nations have confronted it and insisted on their ethnic character and built walls to protect it; there is not one nation or race that has denied itself.
In a reality where domination and colonialism threatens the fates of weaker races, to deny the the uniqueness and excellence of our homogenous race is an act of treason preaching the spiritual disarmament of the race.
The pro-American traitors singing the arguments of “multiethnic, multiracial society” have not even a basic understanding of the race’s point of view or the historical development of society and are silly asses without even the slightest ethnic spirit.
Homogeneity, which no other race in the world has, is the pride of our race and becomes the source of the unity needed in the struggle for eternal development and prosperity. Because the homogeneity of the race is so precious, our people have sacrificed blood and lives to walk the long and difficult path of reunification, and now we are cultivating the June 15 era of reunification with all our patriotic fervor. If we cannot save the homogeneity of the race, we cannot protect the fate of either the race of the individual before American schemes for domination, nor can we block the schemes of the Japanese reactionaries to reinvade based on claims of sovereignty over the Dokdo islets. The anti-national character of the arguments for “multiethnic, multiracial society” is that it denies the race itself and entrusts the nation and race to the imperialists.
When people are calling for the entire people to unite their strength and reunify the Fatherland and raise up the majesty of the homogenous race, it’s a serious problem that there arguments to deny the race and obliterate the race have appeared in South Korea. Now is the era of independent unification to end 60 years of division between North and South and to establish the structural homogeneity of the race, and the trend of this age is “to handle things within the race” (uri minjok-ggiri). The argument for a “multiethnic, multiracial society” is a poison that weakens the basic ideology of this era and is anti-reunification logic. Anti-national arguments running counter to the direction of the people in South Korea is clearly the result of criminal schemes by pro-American groups, including the Grand National Party, and behind-the-scenes control by the United States to make the bloodlines of North and South different, block the June 15 era of reunification and make permanent the division of the Korean race.
The issue of mixed-race people being raised in South Korea is completely a product of U.S. military occupation of South Korea. How spiritless these fellows must be that not only do they not raise up the value of having the U.S. military withdraw to bring an end to this tragic reality, but instead are trying to make the problem part of society.
That arguments for a “multiethnic, multiracial society,” which make it impossible to repress ones racial shame and rage, are openly going around South Korea and there are moves to make them a reality shows how dangerous the criminal schemes of the United States to make the world unipolar are.
All sectors of the South Korean people must boldly reject the anti-national schemes of the flunkeyist traitors to toss aside our identity and racial character and even sully the bloodlines of our race and obliterate it. They must also raise up the values of putting the Korean race first and settling everything within our race and actively stand up in the patriotic struggle to protect the Korean race and bring about reunification.

Among these are that American democracy is based on Old Testament teachings, including the Ten Commandments; that virtually all of the world’s terrorists are Muslim jihadists; and that the Spanish conquistadors were benign evangelists in bringing Christianity to the Americas, sort of like 16th-century Jehovah’s Witnesses.

This stuff is nuts, but it shouldn’t come as a shock. The seeds of disinformation were planted in 2010 when the board, even more heavily burdened by religious zealots then than it is now, adopted a long laundry list of cartoonishly politicized standards for what Texas schoolchildren are required to learn in government and history classes.

—snip—

So why bother arguing about it now?

Maybe because, while this political meddling isn’t a shock, it’s a continuing source of embarrassment for Texans who value education and scholarship. Suggesting (as some of these materials do) that Moses had more influence than Locke on American founding theory, or that the Civil War was fought over “tariff disputes” makes us all look like mindless redneck cult zombies.

We’re not, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why we keep electing them to decide what should be taught in Texas classrooms. Your kids may be honor roll students, but you’d better hope they’re doodling in their notebooks or daydreaming about lunch the day they’re supposed to read some of this nonsense.

Thanks.

Germany takes up wind turbine bird death debate

It has to be said that estimates about the number of birds killed by the 80 metre or so high wind turbine structures with 30 metre long blades vary widely. One study monitoring the migrating flock of an estimated 1.5 million eider manoeuvring past a small wind farm park recorded only a single (!) collision event. The environmental audit unit of the German state of Brandenburg has counted a mere 681 birds nationwide since it started keeping records on behalf of the German environment ministry in 1989. A disproportionate number of those, however, are large, slow breeding and relatively rare birds of prey. Other authorities cite much higher figures. Hermann Hötker, an expert at the Michael Otto conservation centre in Bergenhausen, argues the figures can be much higher, in some areas between one and 10 birds a year, per turbine, based on Dutch and Belgian studies carried out near breeding areas. Since there are 22,000 turbines in Germany, the avian death toll could be tens of thousands of birds a year or even more, just in Germany. Some fly into the rotors or the tower; other, smaller birds are flung upon the ground by the powerful vortex created by the turbines.

Driving in western Pennsylvania near the town my father grew up in takes me down a secondary PA state route that goes by a warehouse/storage area for wind turbine blades. They are huge.

“I mentioned several weeks ago if ISIS wants to come into the United States they’ll contact the drug cartels who bring people to the United States illegally and they will bring them,” Poe said, per BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski. “The Pentagon at first said, ‘Oh, that’s not true.’ And now the Pentagon is backing off. I honestly believe that there’s an aspect of the right-wing mindset that just doesn’t imagine that there’s a rational thought process behind opposing points of view. Hence the following canonical debate form:

“You claim to be pro-nature but look at all the birds killed by wind turbines.”

“Well, actually, although turbines do kill some birds, the net effect of shifting to wind power is greatly beneficial to nature in general, as evidenced by the following data…”

So it is the Left’s fault he had to resign, not his own for being a dickhead.

Let me get this straight: Control of the Senate hangs on whether women show up to vote, and candidates with long records against women’s health want to make this election about birth control. Where do I send the thank-you card? Would a gift basket from Hickory Farms be too much? This is cause for celebration, because if you’re a candidate who is against abortion and birth control, the last thing you want to campaign on for the next two months is abortion and birth control.

Personally, I don’t think anyone needs to know my address—or other personal information. Unless I have pulled-over for a driving violation, I won’t give my ID to a Police Office without a warrant.

I have a big mouth (I know, you’re shocked!), and I never give anything until I ask why they are asking for it. Even if I am pulled over for a traffic stop, the first thing I do is ask why. I will always give my license/insurance card to a cop for a traffic stop. Getting stopped on the street for doing nothing? I would have to get a good response from the cop, because I tend to do this:

re: #37 WhatEVs

When I was 16 I got pulled over for driving a corvette. The owner was sitting next to me. I was pulled over because “girls don’t drive cars like this” and they wanted to make sure it wasn’t stolen.

I *railed* on that cop and called him every name in the book, while cop and owner chuckled at me pitching a fit.

I told them both it get fucked.

Nowadays, I’d probably have been arrested because sexism, like racism or homophobia is okie dokie to the cops, and they are never, ever to be questioned.

I would likely acquiesce because my job requires a certain level of security clearance, but I would not do so quietly - which would equally likely still get me into trouble.

The worst part of all these stories is that I always had HUGE amount of respect for cops. They have difficult jobs and put their lives on the line daily. But there has to be a line somewhere on how you treat people. Because if there is not, they are not there to Serve and Protect. Wariness should be a given. They don’t know what they will encounter. But wariness should not be combined with antagonism and a desire to display the power you hold over the people you stop.

I and my many siblings were born via c section. My wackiest sister, when she was pursuing her psychology degree, was told she could get in touch with her earliest self by watching one being performed. Now she’s had two herself. I watched one on TV. Fortunately I’m not too squeamish, but oh boy, did I gain new respect for Mom. And only one of Mom’s 3 daughters has kids.

292 FemNaziBitch  Sep 16, 2014 9:27:33am

From Robert Reich’s fb post today:

Thirty years ago on its opening day in 1984, Donald Trump stood in a dark topcoat on the casino floor at Atlantic City’s Trump Plaza, celebrating his new investment. Today, as the casino folded, and some 1,000 employees lost their jobs, Trump was on twitter clarifying he currently has “nothing to do with Atlantic City,” and praising himself for his “great timing” in getting out of the investment.

In America, people with lots of money can easily avoid the consequences of bad bets and big losses by cashing out at the first sign of trouble, because the law protects them through limited liability and bankruptcy. But workers who move to a place like Atlantic City for a job, invest in a home there, and build their skills, have no such protection. Jobs vanish, skills are suddenly irrelevant, and home values plummet. Should Donald Trump and other big investors have some legal responsibility to workers and communities for the messes they leave behind?

But to a black woman who had previously been suspected of being a prostitute it is not hyperbole, it is her life and her self-esteem and her self-image.

I, as a 55 year old white woman, would give over my ID. If, however, I was treated as if I had done something wrong every time I encountered a LEO, I would react in exactly the same way she did.

At a point, you should not have to expect to be targeted because you’re black, or an immigrant, or a less than well dressed person walking through a well dressed area.

That makes the assumption of guilt concrete for no other reason than skin color or the clothes you wear. And that is wrong.

The LEO was only asking for her ID. BFD. And the prostitute claim IS hyperbole and was already debunked. Again, stop the drama. It’s only an ID….no one lost their life, liberty, or pursuit of happiness.

Remember this is allegedly the pictures from a 4 year old.

I had not seen the pictures as I was writing and Peterson released a statement filled with remorse. “I am not a perfect son. I am not a perfect husband. I am not a perfect parent, but I am, without a doubt, not a child abuser,” he wrote. “I am someone that disciplined his child and did not intend to cause him any injury.” An assertion hard to believe when you see the marks and cuts on those little 4-year-old legs. Or when you recall that the little one told authorities that Peterson pulled his pants down before striking him also on the back, buttocks and scrotum. Or when you know that he also told them that leaves from the switch were put in his mouth by his father.

“My goal is always to teach my son right from wrong and that’s what I tried to do that day,” Peterson said in his statement. The pictures show that he failed miserably.

Perhaps some parenting classes and community service at a DV shelter are in order.

This really sort of does an excellent job of ignoring the reality of interactions with police in America for folks who aren’t white, where they don’t know if any interaction with police is going to result in the loss of their life, etc.

Would you consider withholding money to a spouse to be Domestic Abuse?

Financial abuse is a tactic often used by abusers to control and isolate their partners. It takes many forms: Abusers may drastically limit their victims’ access to cash so they have no money of their own if they want to flee. They may sabotage their victims’ ability to work, or pile up debt under their victims’ names. Experts cite financial abuse as one of the top reasons why many victims are unable to escape abusive relationships.

Seems that the only thing bacon proves is that some people don’t quite take some parts of the Bible as literal as others.

They invent restrictions against gays and lesbians out of whole cloth, but ignore the bits about kasruth (shellfish, slaughtering of animals, swine, etc.) or clothing (mixing fabrics), or even haircuts.

An important unanswered question about Scottish secession: If they secede, does that mean James Bond won’t be working for MI6 anymore?

If you’re not on twitter, you should designate another lizard to tweet this for you.

Yes, but Skyfall established that the character was Scottish.

Can choose to work for the UK as a counter-statement. Also, he’s half-Swiss and we aren’t asking why he’s not working for them. /

You really should listen to her. Google for the police recording posted by TMZ and reach your own conclusions. The officer was patient and could have earned an Oscar for his performance. He’s seen her picture show before, and she heaped all kinds of Hollywood bigshot BS on him in a pretty pathetic crackhead shriek.

I’d offer a welcome but that’s some lovely stereotyping you’ve got going on there.

It is helpful to know the law. If one doesn’t know the law, it’s helpful to do what is asked of you. If you don’t know the law, it isn’t helpful to pretend you you know the law. Proclaiming “I know my rights” when you don’t will land you in the back of a paddy wagon.

Hint. “Papers” generally are not required. If the cop is going to haul you away because he/she is unreasonable and you want to burn money paying your lawyer, be a jerk and press the issue. But remember the law can be complicated and you may lose anyway. Circumstances dictate what is required.

Finally, being an ass*hole increase the chances you appear to know less about the law than the average ass*hole except if you happen to be a Supreme Court Justice.

How is it that you know this?

You’re not a Supreme Court Justice, are you?

So again, submit and all will be well. Bend over, take it, and shut the fuck up. Got it Sparky.

Do you think you’re gonna stay long here after throwing epithets like “crackhead” here? And do you think it’s conductive to a constructive, level-headed conversation?

It is helpful to know the law.

California is not a Stop and Identify State. It used to be, but the law was struck down in 1983 as void for vagueness, Kolender v. Lawson. So that’s the state of play here, asshole, and it’s irrelevant whether Watts knew this or not. So absent any specific evidence of wrongdoing on her part, which was the case, she was well within her rights to refuse to show her ID to the officers, and it was those officers’ jobs to know this.
