Obviously all gangsters and thugs. Probably all card carrying members of the Black Panthers as well.

Looks like some council members got an earful. Good. Wonder if it drained right out the other side?

Of course when Teabaggers get animated at Town Hall Meetings it is because they are true patriots and care about their country, I can’t wait for them to tell me what those attendees are.

Nice to see some Vines now where we can see some young white people standing up instead of all the older ones who are sitting down and looking very pained.

re: #9 Backwoods_Sleuth

One of the early ones was a fairly small elderly white woman who had absolutely nothing nice to say to the council.

Source: Joan Rivers’ doctor took selfie, began biopsy before her cardiac arrest

The cardiac arrest leading to Joan Rivers’ death happened as the comedian’s personal doctor began performing a biopsy on her vocal cords, a source close to the death investigation told CNN.

A staff member at Manhattan’s Yorkville Endoscopy clinic told investigators that the doctor, who has not been publicly identified, took a selfie photo in the procedure room while Rivers was under anesthesia, the source said.

“If Darren Wilson get off y’all better bring every army y’all got. Cause it’s going down.”

That was not a smart thing to say. However true it is, the person saying it is going to come across to many other people as having issued a threat. Moreover, it is issuing a prejudgement of the legal process, concluding a man to be guilty before he is found to be so and saying their will be violence if the law does not conclude as the speaker has.

Those words are seriously bad in my eyes.

Jeff Roe

Campaigns under Roe’s management have been the subject of criticism from both the Democratic and Republican parties because of negative campaign strategies - much of it from his defeated opponents and former disgruntled clients who have described him as “evil”.[21]

In 2008, in Missouri’s 6th Congressional race between incumbent Sam Graves and challenger Kay Barnes, Roe was the architect for an early negative campaign that led Roll Call to say, “blood is already dribbled along the campaign trail.” [22] Some political ads produced by the Graves campaign were considered “about as sleazy and low as they come.” [23] Graves handily defeated Barnes 59 percent to 37 percent.[24]

Describing his campaign strategies, Steve Kraske and Mike Rice said: “What makes Roe different is just how far he goes. Not unlike President Bush’s strategist, Karl Rove, Roe’s approach has been compared to blunt-force trauma. His tactics range from the Penthouse spot to diving through the trash of a political foe.” [25] In contrast to his harsher critics, Kansas City Star columnist Bill Graham argued, “Jeff Roe is simply doing what candidates pay him to do and what voters have endorsed repeatedly at the polls.” Journalist Barbara Shelly stated that Roe was the “consultant of choice for Republican candidates in Missouri who want to win at all costs.”

The problem as I understand it is that St. Louis County has what’s called a ‘90 Day Law’ (it may be for the whole of Missouri, but I don’t know if that is the case). What it basically means is that if Darin Wilson is indicted, the prosecution has 90 days to bring him to trial. That time period can be extended if the defense requests it to be lengthened, but the prosecution cannot make such a request. Thus it behooves the county prosecutor to make sure he is at least mostly ready for trial before asking the grand jury to vote on an indictment.

Yeah, let’s re-examine the sliding scale that’s about to be replayed.

Armed white people actually threatening law enforcement and talking about violent revolution? Training guns on BLM guys?

If not a hero of Freedomness (TM), at least worth the benefit of the doubt. When one guy escalates to horrific violence, he’s immediately set out as the exception.

Unarmed black crowd? A protest occurs and there’s a robbery nearby? Obviously all of them are rioters. If they make threats, they’re thugs with no credibility. Let’s cheer their arrest.

It’s the horseshit the British used to trot out: we’d listen if you were “civilized”—a moving goalpost on a pitch with a biased umpire.

The problem here (and this may be a systemic problem) is that if the positions had been reversed, I think you would admit that it’s very unlikely that Michael Brown wouldn’t have been charged by this point.

The problem here (and this may be a systemic problem) is that if the positions had been reversed, I think you would admit that it’s very unlikely that Michael Brown wouldn’t have been charged by this point.

Mike Brown would have been in jail for almost 2 months by now. Waiting for his turn at justice.

Re-post, but relevant.

“Ferguson is deliberately violating both the laws and its own policies to prevent any information from being produced and made public that could be used to hold Officer Wilson to account for his actions,” Grapski wrote in the Aug. 29 post, and he repeated this in interviews with Salon.

the prosecutor could have chosen to present an actual indictment charge for the jury to rule on, which as I understand it is exactly what is usually done. In this case, the prosecutor decided to just throw all the evidence at the grand jury, and let the grand jury alone decided whether or not to indict Darren Wilson the prosecutor would then “give guidance” to the jury, but it will ultimately be on the jury whether or not Wilson is charged.

The DA has admitted that it’s an “unsual” step. Ok then, why do it then? Cause this DA has proven that when it comes to police officer crime while on duty, he doesn’t want to make a decision where he prosecutes a police officer.

So all these extra days, or the bread crumb of saying the DA will give trancripts and recordings if grand jury DOESN’T indict Wilson, says to me that they are getting ready to put their contingency plan in motion.

It’s almost always difficult for a prosecutor to move against a police officer. They have to work with police from the accused officer’s department on a regular basis and an indictment can poison that relationship.

Honestly, I think states need a prosecutorial version of Internal Affairs, a group of state attorneys who would be the only ones handling matters of cases against police officers. That was proposed on Slate a few weeks ago and I’ve come to see it as a wise idea.

I understand this in simple cases, but the complication in this situation, is the history of this DA in regards to some clear police abuse cases, and the sad fact of his own backstory just makes it even more smelly that he’s seeming to deviate from his usual course of action in regards to this grand jury. The drawing it out of the process, and the whole buckshot-like presentation of the case to the grand jury rather than laser focus on the particular possible charge for indictment and such is just suspect to me.

I’ve condemned that sort of rhetoric when white people on the right have said it as well. The threat made in Ferguson could be ‘no worse’ than what some of those Oathkeepers crazies have said, but that would still be VERY bad. This poll is pure crap, not to put too fine a point on it.

I noticed that, and also that there was no demographic detailing or raw numbers on any of the responses, their description of their weighting is sketchy at and, unlike some of their other little reports, no mention of the #/% of cell phones called.

And the questions? VIOLENCE, RIOTING AND LOOTING!!! 11TY!

It was ObserverArt who wrote the ‘no worse’ line. I only used it to point out that ‘no worse’ was still really bad.

Also, “‘Cause it’s going down.” isn’t the whole quote. That by itself wouldn’t be very bad, but before that the speaker said “If Darren Wilson get off y’all better bring every army y’all got.”. It is that first sentence that alarmed me.

You aren’t trivializing the fact those Ferguson folks have every right to be pissed about how this is all an ongoing mess and is preceded by other issues with the police and DA are you?

I am back in Lubbock to attend the dedication of the Tim Cole Memorial tomorrow. Tim was the Texas Tech student and Army veteran who was wrongfully convicted of rape in Lubbock in 1985. He was one of my students while I was a grad assistant there, though, in truth, I barely remember him. He died in prison in 1999. He was eventually exonerated and received the first posthumous pardon in the state’s history.
The facts of the case would seem to allow little dissent but bigotry is untroubled by facts: This morning, I heard a wingnut caller to a local radio show demand to know when they would build a memorial to “a white man who was wrongfully convicted.” He went on to opine that it was a waste of taxpayer money. Needless to say, no public money was used for the memorial. It was paid for by Kevin Glasheen, a local lawyer who spent years working for Tim’s exoneration and pardon. Other than allowing the memorial to be placed on city property, there is no public involvement at all.

New MacArthur Genius Award winner Jennifer L. Eberhardt, 49, a social psychologist at Stanford University, has conducted a series of experiments to show how mostly unconscious racial stereotypes can criminalize African-Americans. Using images of faces and objects flashed across a screen at speeds that range from subliminal to perceptible, Ms. Eberhardt discovered that subliminal exposure to a black face led subjects to better detect blurry images of weapons. A white face, conversely, inhibited detection of such objects.

Her statistical analysis also showed that the “blacker” a defendant looks — as measured by skin color, hair texture and lip size — the more likely it was that the defendant would receive the death penalty if the victim was white. Police officers are more likely to judge as criminals those whose faces are the most stereotypically black, her research shows.

Hm. Relation to Ferguson is almost irresistible.

Note: Post edited as Antonio French did not say the quoted phrase.

That can and most certainly will be seen as a threat. It is, unfortunately, a statement of fact. There will be rioting again if Wilson is acquitted or not even charged.

So there was this news item about Satanic materials in Florida schools. But what do these Satanists teach?

thesatanictemple.com

THERE ARE SEVEN FUNDAMENTAL TENETS.

One should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason.
The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo your own.
Beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world. We should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit our beliefs.
People are fallible. If we make a mistake, we should do our best to rectify it and resolve any harm that may have been caused.
Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

Jindal has several ideas for how to tackle these challenges. For example, “appropriate management and thinning of forests that have grown unnaturally thick” will help reduce emissions. He also suggests “modernizing our air traffic control systems to allow pilots to fly more direct routes.” And finally, he urges the government to “work with American job creators to develop a smart plan to preserve the environment.”

Butt kissing at its worse.

It’s a common method of elevating one’s own position (in society), by elevating one’s “enemy” ( broadly defined.)

In a combat sport, when promoting how good one is, one doesn’t go out and say that his opponent is not very good. Rather, the idea is to talk up the opponent, which implies your victory over the opponent is something special.

Shermer would rather not be known as a guy who does well in debates against criminals. It would be much more prestigious to be known as someone who does well debating highly regarded individuals.

Atheists like to think of themselves as akin to champions of the round earth, confronted by religious ignoramuses who keep insisting that the earth is flat. But is it even conceivable that a round-earth advocate should lose a debate to a flat-earth advocate? To put the question differently, if atheists are truly the party of reason, and believers like me are truly the party of “blind faith,” how come reason keeps getting its butt kicked?

Eh. Um.

The Parallax-Dyer debate, held on May 5, 1873, was well attended. Each disputant made a twenty-minute opening address, and they then spoke alternately for ten minutes each until the end. At one point, Dyer suggested that some of the experiments Parallax claimed to have performed could not have happened as he described them, suggesting that Parallax fibbed. Rowbotham parried him neatly, and according to the account of the debate carried in The Zetetic, was the clear winner. He probably was, for the zetetics [flat-earthers] became attached to the debate format. In years to come, they eagerly debated anyone who would go against them.

If you read about the whole breakfast get-together, what Jindal is doing is playing victim cards to the populist style of politics.

He’s also spouting nonsense about “modernizing air traffic control systems to allow pilots to fly more direct routes.” The quality of the ATC system is not much of a factor in setting flight paths. The airlines’ hub-and-spoke system is the determining. Unfortunately, that means some cities, say like New Orleans or Baton Rouge, are the spokes, and big airports like O’Hare, Atlanta and DFW are the hubs. No matter how modern the ATC system is, it would be very unlikely for an airline to fly directly from Baton Rouge to London, for example, because there aren’t enough passengers to make the route profitable.

As for the trees, he’s obviously taken lessons from Saint Ronnie and Michele Bachmann about how trees emit poisonous CO2.

More on creationism and stupid:

Jeff Goldberg yesterday posted a featured piece at The Atlantic focusing on Ken Ham:

The Genesis Code

I find it a less than substantial piece, taken as a whole.

I don’t know why these sort of things get published (other than to make money, of course.) It’s almost like the intelligentsia of (once) leading publications feel they need to be fashionably late to the party, so to speak.

Everything about which Goldberg writes has been written many times before, over the last many years.

My suspicion (and that is all this is) for why this was published was for Jeff to get this in print:

My sympathies, by the way, do not lie entirely where you might think. I find atheism dismaying, for Updikean reasons (“Where was the ingenuity, the ambiguity … of saying that the universe just happened to happen and that when we’re dead we’re dead?”), and because, in the words of a former chief rabbi of Great Britain, Jonathan Sacks, it is religion, not science, that “answers three questions that every reflective person must ask. Who am I? Why am I here? How then shall I live?” Like Ken Ham, I am appalled by the idea, as expressed by Richard Dawkins, that “the universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, and no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.”

So, instead of writing an article full on attacking atheism and Dawkins, which is another fashionable thing in proper circles of leading intellects of the old media, he sneaks that in the middle of the zillionth rehashing of the Creation Museum.

276 freetoken  Sep 17, 2014 5:25:43am

I know that people have been picking on Dawkins for what appears to be some latent sexism on his part, but I believe we need to be careful not to get caught up in other folk’s agendas who are using said sexism to try and attack his attacks on religious belief systems.

It is notable that Goldberg’s dislike of atheism is based on nothing but emotions. How is he, then, qualitatively different from a YEC on an intellectual level? Only by a matter of a degree.

You know, it’s possible to find answers to those three questions without resorting to a Deity. Goldberg maybe forgot about those ancient Greek philosophers, and the more modern ones, who attempted to answer “Who am I? Why am I here? How then shall I live?”

Appeal to Consequences
Explanation
An appeal to consequences is an attempt to motivate belief with an appeal either to the good consequences of believing or the bad consequences of disbelieving. This may or may not involve an appeal to force. Such arguments are clearly fallacious. There is no guarantee, or even likelihood, that the world is the way that it is best for us for it to be. Belief that the world is the way that it is best for us for it to be, absent other evidence, is therefore just as likely to be false as true.
Examples
Appeal to Good Consequences:
(1) If believe in God then you’ll find a kind of fulfilment in life that you’ve never felt before.
Therefore:
(2) God exists.
Appeal to Bad Consequences:
(1’) If you don’t believe in God then you’ll be miserable, thinking that life doesn’t have any meaning.
Therefore:
(2) God exists.
Both of these arguments are fallacious because they provide no evidence for their conclusions; all they do is appeal to the consequences of belief in God. In the case of the first argument, the positive consequences of belief in God are cited as evidence that God exists. In the case of the second argument, the negative consequences of disbelief in God are cited as evidence that God exists. Neither argument, though, provides any evidence for Santa’s existence. The consequences of a belief are rarely a good guide to its truth. Both arguments are therefore fallacious.
Real-World Examples
Each of the arguments above features in real-world discussions of God’s existence. In fact, they have been developed into an argument called Pascal’s Wager, which openly advocates belief in God based on its good consequences, rather than on evidence that it is true.
Another example occurs in the film The Matrix. There Neo is asked whether he believes in fate; he says that he doesn’t. He is then asked why, and replies, “I don’t like the thought that I’m not in control.” This is not an appeal to evidence, but to the unpleasantness of believing in fate: Fate would imply that the world is a way that I don’t want it to be, therefore there is no such thing.

Debating atheism with a believer in a Deity is a losing proposition, because they cannot imagine a universe without a Deity, or a lifestyle that does not depend on belief in a Deity. It’s beyond their ken. Apparently, Goldberg is one of those people.

Jindal is taking liner notes from climate change denialist Charles Krauthammer. His proposals aren’t serious, but he uses just enough weasel words to try and convince people he might do something to deal with the fact that his state is slowly falling into the sea - a combination of reduced outflows from the Mississippi River carrying silt that built up the delta due to man-made changes to the channel and levee/damming that allows cargo to flow, a rising Caribbean Sea, and subsidence due to both a reduction in silt and drilling/extraction along the coast.

Louisiana loses 25-30 square miles of coastline every year. That’s the equivalent to a football field every 15 minutes. So, during an actual football game, you’re losing the land equivalent to at least 4 football fields.

Indeed, many of the GOP controlled states are using other terms to address climate change without actually identifying the need as climate change. They talk of storm-proofing. Coastal defense. Smart growth. Etc.

But the inevitable fact is that they have to address climate change, and the GOP is rife with denialists in every corner.

BTW, Jindal is also being touted as a potential 2016 contender, but his policies on everything from education to taxes should end all of that speculation. He’s trying to put a shine on the mess he’s made of LA, in much the same way that Rand Paul’s trying to pivot to win over mainline GOPers.

From the NYT—

Kentucky is arguably one of the health law’s biggest early successes, with about 10 percent of the population getting coverage through the state’s online insurance marketplace — albeit mostly through Medicaid, not private plans — and none of the technology failures that plagued other enrollment websites. The uninsured rate here has fallen to 11.9 percent from 20.4 percent, according to a recent Gallup poll that found only Arkansas had experienced a steeper decline.

This sounds like a really BFD. The Democratic Party candidate for U.S. Senate from Kentucky must really be going wall-to-wall about this in her campaign.

Or not.

Ms. Grimes typically avoids talking about the health care law but, when pressed, says she wants to improve it. At a candidate forum here last month, during which Mr. McConnell called the law catastrophic, Ms. Grimes said, “We have to work to streamline the Affordable Care Act to make sure there aren’t overburdensome regulations on our businesses.” She also called for letting more people keep their old insurance policies, a point of contention that emerged last fall when several million people’s plans were canceled because they did not comply with the law’s coverage requirements.

Bring on the meteor.

She needs to differentiate herself from McConnell, rather than try to weasel-word around hot-button issues among conservatives. Grimes needs to play on the strengths of the Democrats, especially in regard to the ACA and Ky’s insurance exchange, rather than distance herself from them.

Nuance is not effective in the Commonwealth.

Gov. Steven L. Beshear, one of the few Democrats forcefully promoting the law here, said many were driven by a dislike of Mr. Obama. A recent CNN poll found that only 33 percent of likely voters here approved of his job performance, and that 63 percent disapproved.

(snip)

At the state fair’s annual ham breakfast, Mr. Beshear tried to humanize the law, describing how several farmers in attendance had signed up for the new coverage and how one had used it to check out a spot that turned out to be skin cancer.

“It’s not about the president,” he told the crowd of 1,600, who did not applaud once during the six minutes he spent discussing the law. “It’s about you. It’s about your families. It’s about your children.”

Certainly teaching the non-existence violates the spirit of the Est. Cl.
But since he argues that it would be technically constitutional, the only route I see for this is claiming that the claim of non-existence does not establish any religion.
The retort to this would be that it is still a claim about religion without a secular purpose.

The phrase “Middle Class” doesn’t mean much, does it?

It also has to do with level of education (college or higher ed), whether family are home (or rather mortgage) owners, whether they have other investments and what their expectations are.

Middle Class is hard to quantify simply in figures.

While Wikipedia is not the most reliable of sources, the article on the War of 1812 mentions only tornadoes that swept into Washington, D.C., causing some damage and delaying the British departure from the capital. The Brits then set off to take Baltimore, but failed to defeat the American forces defending it, and they later called off the attack. I find no mention of a hurricane.

All true. The thing about Grimes is that she is an old school blue dog Democrat (as are many Democrats here in Kentucky). Essentially, she is more like an old-fashioned moderate Republican.
We also have a lot of people who are still living mentally in the past when it comes to social issues (religion, abortion, racial relations, etc.); Grimes is very much walking a political tightrope with the voters.

Oh, I correct myself. There was a hurricane that hit Louisiana in 1812, but judging from this Wikipedia entry, it did more damage to the Americans than to the British.

As the storm moved ashore in Louisiana, outer rainbands produced gale force winds and heavy damage in Pensacola, Florida. At Cat Island offshore Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, strong winds washed several boats ashore. Hurricane conditions began in New Orleans around 8 p.m. local time on August 19.[2] In southeastern Louisiana, Fort St. Philip sustained heavy damage,[5] after it was flooded. Most soldiers in the fort drowned. There was a rumor during the storm that the British took over Fort St. Philip, causing a panic in the midst of the War of 1812; however, the British fleet was scattered throughout the region,[3] and many British ships were damaged.[2] In New Orleans, the hurricane damaged 53 ships, and several boats were washed ashore along Lake Pontchartrain.[5] The USS Louisiana, a cutter commissioned in 1804, was wrecked during the hurricane while at port in New Orleans, and the entire crew except for the captain was killed.[6] Debris and bodies from the ships were dispersed along the lake’s coastline. The USS Viper lost its mast while offshore during the storm. Ten people died on the ship “Harlequin”.[3]

If there was a hurricane during the War of 1812 on the East Coast, it doesn’t rate among those hitting Maryland during that time period - or within 30+ years for that matter. A strong hurricane did glance off the coast of Delaware in 1821, but no damage inland.

About.com does claim that one occurred, but I’ve yet to find any definitive report on actual weather sites.

Much more likely is that a tornado roared through during the British occupation of DC.

There was a hurricane that hit Louisiana during 1812, but it is likely to have done damage to both British and American lines, and set back American preparations and included damage to several American ships.

It would fly like a lead balloon. Just designing the curriculum would be a no-starter, because any attempt to present a balanced view would prompt each religion to say it was being slighted.

On the other hand, teaching European history without reference to the conflicts among Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Protestants, Jews and Muslims is well nigh impossible. But, given the time constraints of the typical high school curriculum, it would be very difficult to delve into those conflicts in any great detail.

Gee, why would the black community be angry if and when Wilson doesn’t even get charged, let alone gets off (after trial)?

1) FPD and STL county police cover up and obfuscate reports that should have been produced identifying basics of the scene of the incident.
2) county prosecutor has strong ties to local law enforcement, including a history of not prosecuting deadly/excessive force incidents against LEOs.
3) county prosecutor has ties to group that raised funds for Wilson.
4) local political leaders silent for weeks, and then suddenly propose new measures at a public meeting, even though it would seem that the state open meetings law was violated by not indicating when the initial deliberations took place on what was ultimately agreed to
5) FPD and county police engage in excessive force in stopping protests - including arrests and detentions of journalists who are doing nothing other than peacefully protesting and/or covering the protests.
6) county police aiming their loaded weapons at peaceful protesters.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

410 Bulworth  Sep 17, 2014 8:43:54am

So, I found out today that one of the local news outlets here in Washington, D.C., has been purchased by the Sinclair Broadcast Group—

Last week, for example, WJLA viewers woke up to a new face on the morning news: Mark Hyman, a veteran conservative pundit, who offered some criticism of President Obama.

In his video commentary, Hyman railed against the inconsistent enforcement of a ban on travel to Cuba by Americans. Noting that the music stars Jay Z and Beyoncé had “partied up” in Havana last year without penalty, Hyman insinuated that Obama had protected the couple from prosecution. “It occurs to me that Beyoncé and Jay Z are close friends of the president and first lady,” said Hyman, adding sarcastically, “You don’t suppose . . . oh, never mind. He’d never do that.”

Hyman’s critiques — which range from warning about the cost of Obamacare to advocating the abolition of the Transportation Security Administration — will be a regular feature on WJLA, just as they are on dozens of stations owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group, the new owner of ABC 7.

OFFS.

I watch this station in the mornings but was fortunate enough to have missed Mark Hyman’s Sinclair screeching.

And then there’s this—

Newsroom employees say they were alarmed last month by comments made by David Smith in an introductory staff meeting. According to several employees, Smith repeatedly said the station’s newsroom would “work for” its advertising-sales department. The statement surprised and disappointed some employees, who said newsroom decisions had been independent of advertising concerns under Allbritton’s management. (Allbritton’s former chief operating officer, Frederick J. Ryan Jr., was named publisher of The Washington Post earlier this month.)

Our “Liberal Media”, folks.

Teehee, I heard the word without hearing a definition (like everyone), but I decided it meant “someone who gave stuff to Indians.” Since they usually historically ended up taking back the “gift.”

re: #338 Backwoods_Sleuth

Plus add in the geographic and urban/rural factors. Statewide elections aren’t going to go in favor of any Democrat unless they are Blue Dog, and even then it is hit and miss. Alison has to run up the margins in Lexington and Louisville, which I think she will, but will it be enough to hold off the conservative votes in Eastern and Western KY.

And I don’t think that it could be a good strategy to highlight how the ACA is helping. Mitch McConnell is running against Barack Obama. Every republican in the state is. Andy Barr commercials mention President Obama and “job killing” regulations. Hal Heiner is running for Governor next November, and everything out of his mouth is about Obama and “job killing coal killing regulations”. Alison has to run to get herself elected in the best way possible, and here you have to make enough people forget about the Blah guy in the White House, and anything about the ACA ain’t making that happen.

Oklahoma state Sen. Bennett: American Muslims are a ‘cancer in our nation that needs cutting out’

“I’m going to talk about threat of ISIS, and the Muslim Brotherhood, and CAIR, which is right here in the state of Oklahoma.”

“Is there a difference between moderate and radical Islam?” he asked, before answering, “I say, ‘No.’”

After attempting to describe the difference between “Muslim and Islam,” Bennett asked, “How can I be racist against Muslims or Islam when the ethnicity is actually Arab? This is kind of confusing.”

He then said that the goal of all Muslims is “the destruction of Western civilization from within. This is a cancer in our nation that needs to be cut out,” he added, but “the media is playing right into their hands.”

The difference between things like “Indian giver” or “gyp” and the phrase “chinking the oven” is that the former two are derived from the ethnicity, whereas “chink” as a word for a small crack or opening goes all the way back to the 1500’s (and earlier, without the final “k”), and originally had nothing to do with the Chinese.

(There is a possibility, floated by etymonline.com, that the word “chink” achieved its ethnic meaning due to a reference to east Asian eye shape, but that’s not necessary. It could be just “china” plus the same “k” ending we see on “canuck”.)

Sure, that makes sense:

Staver: Contraception Mandate Just Like Nazi Gas Chambers

“If you are being forced to pay for the gas in the chamber that is injected into that chamber to kill a Jew, that’s one thing.” Staver said. “On the other hand, if you are required to say ‘you go right, you go left,’ the ones that go to the left, they go to the gas chamber, you don’t have to pay for that, but you have to make the decision to do it, it’s the same thing. Whether I have to exchange a dollar or ten dollars or a thousand dollars to facilitate the death of a human being or whether I have to say ‘I can’t do it, I can’t pull the trigger so therefore don’t make me pull the trigger,’ consequently since I’ve objected now a third party has to pull the trigger. There’s no difference.”

Barber agreed, saying that those who object “are still being forced to be complicit in that abortion homicide,” which is exactly what President Obama wants because he “in large part, lives his life to enable people to kill others.”

“This is good versus evil,” Barber said, “and there’s little question who’s on the side of good here and who’s on the side of evil.”
