John Boehner Is Sick of Unemployed People Who Would ‘Rather Just Sit Around’

The GOP still has nothing but contempt for people struggling to make it

Richard Cowen, Reuters: John Boehner Is Sick of Unemployed People That Would ‘Rather Just Sit Around’

Boehner then lamented “this idea that has been born, maybe out of the economy over the last couple years, that you know, I really don’t have to work. I don’t really want to do this. I think I’d rather just sit around. This is a very sick idea for our country.”

The evidence is clear that once someone has been unemployed for six months, as happened to millions of Americans as jobs disappeared during the Recession, virtually no employer is willing to give them a chance. But we can always count on the GOP to kick people when they are down.

That’s been known for centuries. I recall reading a bit from a Parliamentary inquiry in England from the mid-19th Century.

As to the skilled working man it is well known that if he is without work for six months he is never the same again.

You would think that the alleged ‘conservatives’ would be concerned with conserving the livelihoods and hope of Americans. But nooooo.

You know what really pisses me off as someone unemployed? It’s this insidous lie spread by right wing assholes like Boehner that people like me like our station. Hey asshole if you actually lived in reality and hint not listening to your wealthy campaign donors, you’d know that unemployed Americans are eager to work, eager to prove ourselves, and tired of disconnected from reality politicians like yourself accusing of us being lazy. For a man whose salary is paid courtsey of the U.S taxpayer, this fucker has a lot of nerve. Really Boehner just quit and become a lobbyist already if you have such outward contempt for your own people and show such a blatant disregard for their interests. President Obama may not be perfect but at least he tries to get shit done for the betterment of all Americans not just the very wealthy.

9 A Mom Anon  Sep 20, 2014 3:31:12pm

10 HappyWarrior  Sep 20, 2014 3:33:47pm

As far as I’m concerned. This is another Romney 47% moment where a prominent Republican thumbs his nose at the American people who aren’t rich and well connected like him.

No shit! I mean really, I know these guys are great and all, but to have allowed someone to get all the way inside the WH!
He could have had a bomb strapped on.

They need to do some serious re-evaluation.

The long term unemployed have worked more days this year than John Boehner and have accomplished far more.

Well, the other guy is Latino, so perhaps the Secret Service just didn’t want to come off looking like the Ferguson PD.

This points to yet another problem that comes up when cops act like complete shitheads: They make other law enforcement officers who are not shitheads worry about if they’ll be lumped in with that shithead for doing their jobs right.

18 Eclectic Cyborg  Sep 20, 2014 3:49:45pm

It all comes down to racist attitudes. Boehner is just repeating an oft mentioned talking point with racial undertones.

When they say “lazy unemployed” they really mean “impoverished blacks and minorities” who are, in their opinion little more than welfare moochers sucking down resources from the hard working white man that could better be used elsewhere.

They they think that every unemployed person is a scammer who sells their ebt cards for liquor, drugs and big screen TVs.

It goes right back to what I said a couple of days ago regarding the impact on Fox News on public discourse in America.

‘Dotcom brand is poisoned’: Internet Party crashes in NZ elections

The Internet-Mana party gained just 26,500 votes - 1.3 percent of the total, and short of the five percent needed to cross the parliament threshold.

The bloom is off the lily.

Being from Ohio and knowing Johnny boy is just down state, but there is nothing I can do about him electorally just bugs the crap out of me. Grrr.

How arrogant do you have to be to say this stuff and yet you are the leader of possibly the most despised House of Reps in history and do your own amount of sitting around doing nothing?

These guys do not represent the people of their area. I just wish the people realized it. Wake the hell up southern Ohio district of Boehnhead’s…dump this bozo.

Which is a move to help his military manufacturers backers and has nothing to do with the people in his district. Yes, it is Ohio, but the Lima tank plant made tanks for a long time. Lima is a good distance away from Boehner’s district.

Didn’t say there wasn’t. But I was think that perhaps the USSS was worried about if the media would draw that distinction.

On further reflection, the ones I think least likely to draw that distinction are the wingnuts. I’m surprised Jim Hoft hasn’t already accused the White House of coddling the intruder in order to keep Latinos happy. Yes, that would be stupid of him, but this is Jim Hoft I’m talking about.

They’re excellent pets, quiet, loving, grateful, and surprisingly low voltage. Owners call them 40 mph couch potatoes.

The male is very active for a Greyhound, which means he’s like the world’s laziest Border Collie, on Quaaludes. Once a day, he’ll run circles around the circular garden for about 2-5 minutes, then come in, flop down, and pant. Beyond that, two walks of about a mile each, and he’s fine. Most Greyhounds are less active than that.

Most people are. The fact that they’re so thin, with such low body fat gives the impression of enormous energy, but no - give them a comfy bed, lots of scritches, a reasonable walk once or twice a day, and a surprisingly large amount of food and they’re blissfully happy.
