Right Wing Blogger Chuck C. Johnson Says He’s “Defying an Illegal Subpoena”

Chuck C. Johnson posing with his best friend

Right wing smear merchant Chuck C. Johnson (who is NOT ME) has been accused of paying a shady witness to lie about participating in a vote-buying scheme purportedly orchestrated by the Thad Cochran campaign in Mississippi, and last month he was subpoenaed to appear before a grand jury investigating the issue. In typical Chuck C. Johnson fashion, he posted the subpoena at his website even though it explicitly said he was forbidden from revealing its existence.

And today, this ace right wing “journalist” announced on Twitter that he’s going to defy the subpoena entirely, and refuse to appear.

This is not going to end well for him.

We don’t hear much, or Google much, about CCJ’s family background. If he’s not a complete idiot, he has to be relying on something that grants him effective immunity.

Otherwise, he’s going to learn that the basis of Southern politics isn’t ideology or even race. It’s vicious, backwoods, para-criminal meanness.

Charles, CCJ isn’t a smear artist. That would imply he’s got skill in doing so.

He’s a smear merchant. He pays for his smears, and they’re transparent at that.

I suspect there is a great deal of money in CCJ’s history, though he might be somewhat divorced from it. He has been handcarried through his education and early job run, often crossing paths with other “Johnsons”.

I actually had just decided exactly the same thing, and edited the post to say that. “Artist” would imply that there’s some artfulness to what he does, and in fact his smears are nothing but crude character assassination.

And smearing people has literally been his entire career.

28 lawhawk  Sep 22, 2014 9:44:18am

CCJ refuses to accept the legitimacy of a duly appointed court officer and prosecutor. He refuses to accept the legitimacy of a properly authorized subpoena for his appearance.

He must think that refusing to appear and “standing up to the man” will enhance his stature among right wing smear merchants. Arrests will only improve his street cred. Or so he must think.

And no one on the right is calling him out on this BS. None.

No need. If they really want him that bad they will issue a warrent for his arrest and ask California to extradite him. He can fight it, but I don’t think the Courts will find for him.

It depends on whether the state will pay for the person who was a warrant out for him to be extradited. Some warrants have no extradition, some the state will only extradite the person from a continuous state, etc.
