Has anybody checked on El Paso to see if ISIS has started their counter assault across the Rio Grande yet?

This is an amazingly gutsy move, and having the SA, Bahrain, Jordan and the UAE on board is huge. It heads off the argument that it’s a war on Sunni Islam and makes it clear that it’s a war on violent Islamist extremists.

Punitive expedition:

en.wikipedia.org

…Stowell (1921) provides the following definition:

When the territorial sovereign is too weak or is unwilling to enforce respect for international law, a state which is wronged may find it necessary to invade the territory and to chastise the individuals who violate its rights and threaten its security.[1]

I expect we will see tomorrow on the rwnj blogs, that we didn’t go far enough. We should have used nukes.

Put simply, we should employ tactical nuclear weapons to wipe out the enemy. We cannot worry that Islamic civilians will be killed in the process. In the end this strategy, as was true of the Japanese in World War II, saves not just American but Muslim lives as well. - See more at: rightwingwatch.org

Yeah, because President Obama should really care about the guy who wanted to foment a coup to run him out of office. /dripping

That idea is so bad as to need little refuting, but I’ll supply a little:

Using nukes would be a war crime that would kill thousands of civilians without necessity, it would make the whole world hate the US, and it would cause hundreds of thousands of Muslims to think the psychos of ISIS to be martyrs to America’s hate for Islam.

*cough* Bullshit! *cough*

Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch, a conservative political advocacy group, said the country is “ruled by a president who bows down to Allah,” and “is not a president of ‘we the people.’”

“I call upon all of you to wage a second American nonviolent revolution, to use civil disobedience, and to demand that this president leave town, to get up, to put the Quran down, to get up off his knees, and to figuratively come up with his hands out,” he said.

Klayman was joined by a group of veterans protesting the memorial closures that followed the government shutdown earlier this month. The demonstrators, who were met by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and former Alaska Gov Sarah Palin, pushed through the barriers at war memorials and carried the barricades back to the White House, Confederate flags in tow.

Birds of a feather…

Rand Paul’s NSA Lawsuit May Be Latched to Already-Successful Challenge

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., announced Friday he is moving ahead with plans to file a class-action lawsuit against the National Security Agency.

If Paul files his constitutional challenge in Washington, D.C., it’s possible the lawsuit will be considered “in tandem” with an existing lawsuit filed by Freedom Watch founder Larry Klayman.

Klayman filed the first class-action lawsuit against the NSA’s bulk phone record collection after Edward Snowden’s leaks in June. He also filed a class-action lawsuit challenging the NSA’s PRISM Internet program.

Ted Cruz is a raving lunatic just like his father. If he’s making public appearances with Klayman he agrees with him.

Don’t forget, Ted Cruz was front and center at Klayman’s rally in front of the White House alongside the Oathkeepers and other lunatics where people were waving the Confederate flag and everything.

Apparently time heals many things.

Did you miss his lovely performance downstairs where he said that Gabby Giffords needs to be taken down a few pegs?

He’s earned his pushback tonight.

The Giffords, though I am more inclined to agree with them than not, are very much political creatures. They knew exactly what they were doing with their actions. DF’s commentary is comparatively mild, to say the least, on that side of the fence.

So go ahead and push. Just stop playing surprised when he pushes back because - even if he is wrong - he was still mistreated earlier.

I’m sorry, when he acknowledges the very real harm that Republican policies that he advocates has on minority, female, and gay Lizards, I’ll stop pushing.

Until then, he can deal with the bloody pushback he gets, because if he is unwilling to face the consequences of his actions when I and many others would have to live with it, a little bit of pushback on a website is mild.

That was actually the Yugoslav (effectively Serbian) Army that pulled off that shoot down and they did it using optics rather than radar. The missile battle that scored the kill was also far better trained and led than any ISIS crew is likely to be.

There was actually a pretty cool RPG that was out about 25 years ago called “The End”, where the players were all people left behind after Revelations. Basically believers of any faith were taken, and now the survivors had to deal with the remnants of Heaven’s and Hell’s armies on Earth, as well as the return of the old gods and other creatures.

But Left Behind will actually make money; evangelical subculture has a very limited range of “acceptable” books and movies they’re allowed to see, they’ll flock to anything on the permitted list. Probably multiple times. It won’t do as well as that Mel Gibson Jesus movie, because the Catholics won’t be along for the ride, but there’ll be millions of viewers nonetheless.

It’s sort of funny how this non-traditional, sectarian doctrine of “Rapture” that isn’t accepted by most Christians is used as a selling point for Christianity in general. That is, the preachers behind the film don’t want people to accept Christ and Christianity as such, they want them to accept a very specific idiosyncratic interpretation of Christianity peculiar to a few sects. The alternative supposedly being Hell.

Media seems to be freaking out a bit. I guess they wanted to be told that major and aggressive attacks were to be underway by a good sized coalition and it isn’t what they expected. Now they are caught off guard on the whole story.

In other words. Whaaaaaaa! BooooHoooo! OBAMA!!! We just can’t ever peg this guy and he won’t follow our script of what we want to say he is.

I guess they haven’t learned he hasn’t ever messed around. They just fall for their own crap.

I must admit that I’m not as well informed as I would like to be, especially about the Middle East, but I’ve read some of Obama’s speeches and interviews in the last year and he’s made it very clear that he’s reevaluating the best way to approach the Global War On Terror, and that he thinks partnerships with other countries are critical. He’s also said that every situation needs to be evaluated differently, so when the media screamed “HE HAD NO STRATEGY FOR ISIS” I understood the context. So anyone who has paid a minimal amount of attention (as I have) should not at all surprised about how he is handling this, or other foreign policy issues. Oh, wait. Never mind. I’m talking about the media here. It’s not their job to do research.

Of course, it should be kept in mind that the F-22 has never actually been tested in combat, so we’ve no idea how effective its stealth will actually be. Most folks may not remember the time a bunch of rebels blew an F-117, whose own stealth capabilities had been touted for years, out of the sky using outdated Soviet-era SAMs.

‘Stealth’ only makes it difficult to shoot down aircraft, not impossible.

There are other ways to bring down aircraft as well.

202 lawhawk  Sep 23, 2014 7:20:54am

So, talking heads are wondering why the airstrikes were timed the way they were.

Was it because of the UNGA? Because they had to do so after the President spoke about hitting ISIL?

No, all these folks seem to ignore that the reason to hit ISIL when and where the Administration and its allies did was because that is what they planned to do. These things don’t just happen overnight, and the timing may have been to coincide with the UNGA only tangentially since the President will likely speak to this in his allotted speech time.

But the mission is to go after ISIL in Syria and Iraq (and elsewhere). Having Arab coalition partners helps in that task significantly, and lots of countries stand to benefit from eliminating ISIL - moderates like Egypt and Jordan or fundamentalists like Qatar or Saudi Arabia. Sunni and Shi’a stand to benefit from stopping the genocidal group ISIL - Iran and Iraq too.

Yet, all the regional powers are trying to swing things to their benefit, so their actions have to also be seen in that light.

A wildcard here is Turkey, which so far has decided not to go after ISIL, even though hundreds of thousands of refugees from the Syrian civil war and Iraqi conflicts have flooded into Turkey and that Turkey is among to benefit most from stopping ISIL. They must also feel that it’s better someone else deal with the problem than open up a can of worms, even though Turkey is a NATO member.

Turkey’s efforts at toppling Assad became a mess in part because in training the rebels during the Syrian civil war they inadvertently gave assistance to ISIL, which managed to overrun all the rebel groups all while filling the vacuum left by Assad.

Turkey can still turn this around, but they’re going to tread more carefully.

Another wildcard is Israel, but I still expect them to be a background player here, the shootdown of a Syrian jet notwithstanding. Figure on the Israelis providing intel, logistics, and special forces recon all under black ops rules.

I supplied snopes links a few times to FB friends posting crap that was easily rebutted as being fake or massively exaggerated.

A few removed their original links - one even with a comment about being wrong and acting more carefully in the future. Others just kept it up and were eventually ignored or de-friend-ed.

One dug deeper and tried to claim that snopes was some sort of liberal smear site - or crap along those lines. He got “point and laugh” treatment from enough of us that he de-friend-ed us. No loss there since it saved me the effort.

It’s not easy. Itt doesn’t make me real popular on that side of the family. I’m already a bit on edge with them to begin with. Lot of racism in the form of “I don’t hate black people, I hate ni-CLANGs” and the such. Posting that crap that makes it worse.

The man certainly has a way with words

Wall Street Journal went in search of a Republican governor and potential presidential candidate who is not a) under indictment, b) under investigation, and c) underwater in his home state poll. And they lighted upon… Mike Pence of Indiana. He’s ready for his closeup, Mr. Murdoch!…

Mike Pence has an extensive record of being quite the box of rocks, sack of hair, and bag of hammers…

The pile gets higher. Nonetheless, the search for the pony goes on.

Daniels would probably fall into the Huntsman category. Would be reasonable under normal circumstances, or a GOP of even 20 years ago. Now, they’re too liberal to be considered a viable choice. I don’t either really. The problem they have is they have no plan for the future. In the 80’s, yes the Dems were getting their butts kicked during presidential elections but you also were seeing the groundwork of what became the Democratic Party of the 90’s when you saw guys like my own then Governor Robb, then Governor Clinton, the Senator Gore, and many other “new Democrats” elected. Instead, we’re seeing a GOP that instead of looking forward with new ideas is looking back, I just don’t see that as viable long term especially with the ideas they’re espousing being poisonous to a growing portion of the population.

11 Facts Yü Should Know About the Umlaut

7. HOW DO YOU ALPHABETIZE UMLAUTED VOWELS? DEPENDS ON THE LANGUAGE.

In German, the umlaut is ignored for alphabetization purposes, except when it comes to lists of names. Then, ü, ö, and ä are treated like ue, oe, and ae, respectively, so that variations on the same name (Müller, Mueller) will be grouped together. In Swedish and Finnish the umlauted vowels come at the end of the alphabet (…X,Y,Z,Å,Ä,Ö). In Hungarian and Turkish the umlauted vowels follow their non-umlauted counterparts.

What the hell makes him presidential material? Is it that he can talk crazy shit to crazy people? Yeah, he’s going to go far on that.

# 3 - I’m tired of people expecting the government to solve all of their problems by legislating everything: Similar to what I’ve said before, this is about equality. Without government intervention, I could be a slave in the fields of Mississippi picking cotton instead of writing this blog. As a black man, I wouldn’t have the same access to education, bathrooms, restaurants, employment, and housing that white folks have. Women wouldn’t be allowed to vote. Gays and lesbians wouldn’t be allowed to get married in some areas of our great nation (oh wait, gays and lesbians still have that problem…never mind).

Although the events of the past are important to remember and in some cases to avoid repeating, linking modern groups to the groups who participated in the past is highly irrelevant unless the ideology and intent of the modern group reflects that of the past group.

It’s very much a case of ‘what have you done for us lately’.

Just ask yourself - where did the southern democrats go? Answer: They became the republican party.

I just can’t wait to see Dr. Ben Carson face the attacks of the other GOP clown car contestants. He’s not used to that. He just goes on friendly forums and gets softball questions.

That’s why I think Palin has never run. She can handle the left wing criticism of her because she can just bitch about the “mean old liberals” but she’ll be at a lost for words when her fellow Republicans would criticize her. If Carson runs, he’ll find out the same thing that presidential politics is a cutthroat business.

I think many white conservative Republicans see him as their “Get out of being called racist” card. I really don’t know. I mean the guy’s never been elected to anything as far as I know. I hope he does run because he’ll be exposed for the fraud he is on political matters.

Guys like that have a dangerous arrogance to them. Now I’m someone who feels every presidential candidate is arrogant to some degree but I think those like Carson who have never been elected anywhere have a special arrogance to them. Think Herman Cain and his Uz-becky-ecky-stan comment and how he didn’t need to know foreign policy. That’s Ben Carson tenfold. Carson is going to get a rude awakening when he’s not being told he’s so wonderful. As I said, that’s why I think Palin has shied away from higher office since quitting governor though monetary reasons are there for her too.

meh, I think people have the wrong idea of what “hell” is. Given that what we think of as “hell” was really an invention of the middle ages and writers such as Dante (can’t remember how to spell his last name but read the inferno). It’s a means to scare the bejesus out of people so they’d do what the church dictated.

Not really.

And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where “‘the worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched.’

Unless my foot is caught in a massive rusty beartrap, I’m not cutting my foot off (nor poke out my eye) for some sort of “stumble” that some random religious people perceive as so horrible as to permanently impact my accommodations in some nebulous afterlife.
Too many really fun people are going to this “hell” place (or are already there). Heaven really does sound very boring, especially for an eternity.
Sure, maybe heaven has cookies, but I’m pretty sure in hell (if there is such a place) there will be adult beverages, rowdy singing, dancing, card playing, gays, democrats, atheists, scientists, artists, musicians and a host of other people damned for all time because of “stumbles”.
Oh, and most religions think heaven is just for people.
So just send me to where all of the dogs, feline overlords and other non-human companions go.
