Jim Hoft’s Incredibly Moronic Post of the Day: The “Most Degrading Salute Ever!”

“The coffee cup President!”
Wingnuts • Views: 47,982
DERP

The Dumbest Man on the Internet is losing his scheisse again; he’s in a state of extreme outrage because Obama saluted some Marines with a coffee cup in his hand (probably because he was carrying a coat with his other hand). “A NEW LOW!” screams the DMOTI: A NEW LOW - Obama’s Salute to Marines - Most Degrading Salute Ever to Men in Uniform (Video) | the Gateway Pundit.

“Most degrading salute ever?” Really?

How about this one?

It’s not just Hoft; the entire right wing is yelling in unison about this latest silly fake outrage.

And we should note that the custom (not duty) of presidents saluting members of the military is a recent phenomenon (started by Ronald Reagan in 1981), and many people believe it should not be done at all.

The most degrading salute ever is one offered by an un-uniformed civilian. So, all of them. What a stupid practice.

OMFG COMMANDER IN CHIEF HOT HOT MILITARY FELLATIO is a bunch of nonsense.

“…This gesture is of course quite wrong: such a salute has always required the wearing of a uniform. But there is more to this than a decline in military manners. There is something puerile in the Reagan (and now Bush) salute. It is the joyful gesture of someone who likes playing soldier. It also represents an exaggeration of the president’s military role.”

Yeah the salute was in bad form given he was holding a cup but really? Of course had he not saluted at all they’d still be flipping out.

2275 Stanley Avenue in Dayton, OH is the address of Globe Motors, a producer of (among other things) small electrical motors used in the aerospace world. I would really like to hear a batch of rational arguments from the GOP for their reasons for opposing damn near everything that this Administration proposes to do to solve the problems in front of the country, instead of the arguments constructed by toddlers stating that “if he’s for it, we’re against it”.

I loathe our compliant media for enabling this behavior and even encouraging it.

They [prosecutors] cited statements D’Souza made in media interviews after his guilty plea, where he discussed being “selectively” targeted for prosecution.

[Judge Richard] Berman appeared to accept the prosecutors’ position, playing a video in which D’Souza talked about selective prosecution - an effort at “spin,” the judge said.

“I’m not sure, Mr. D’Souza, that you get it,” Berman said before announcing the sentence. “And it is still hard for me to discern any personal acceptance of responsibility in this case.”

Hmmm. This could work. Especially if Bill O’Reilly is obliged to lead the charge from the front lines.

New U.S. tax rules chill ‘inversion’ deal-making; shares dive

OUTRAGE! 11ty

(Reuters) - Tough new U.S. rules on corporate “inversions” on Tuesday sent a chill through the market for the tax-avoidance deals, both pending and potential, with share prices falling sharply in nearly a dozen companies on both sides of the Atlantic.

I still don’t understand why the US Government insists it is owed taxes on something that is produced overseas, with overseas labor, and sold to overseas consumers. Literally, no american hands could ever touch the product and Uncles Sam still wants a cut because of where the corporation exists on paper.

Most countries have adopted a territorial tax system and if the US did as well most of the inversion nonsense would stop. It isn’t just about the corporate tax rate.

It’s not about where the Corporations exist. It’s about where the owners/stock holder LIVE. They keep their cash off shore and then funnel it back into the States without paying taxes on it or if they do, they pay at a lower level.

Yeah, just because US tax dollars pay for international enforcement of intellectual property laws, or for the US military to keep commerce flowing smoothly across the seas that nobody else patrols, or energy costs reasonable, or that the US keeps the world banking system alive, and it’s the US that keeps the management and stockholders of these companies safe and secure, companies that were birthed and grown on US soil with US-educated staff and their products are probably the result of building on US govt-funded research.

Why should the US expect any piece of that?

Fed, clothed, armed, supplied and paid by Halliburton no doubt, since corporations are people why can’t they own private armies too? I’m sure that minimizing the future role of the American Army in favor of privatized corporate armies never occurred to Bill when he dreamed this up.

Yep!

Other than being super-smart, these are by no means ordinary rats. In fact, they’re not even ‘true’ rats at all - they belong to an entirely different family (Nesomyidae) from your regular house rat (Muridae). Growing to around 0.9 metres (3 feet) long - their tails make up half their length - and 1.4 kilograms (3.1 pounds) in weight, African giant pouched rats are pretty humungous. They’re native to Sub-Saharan Africa, ranging from Senegal to Kenya and from Angola to Mozambique, where they live in communities of 20 or so, relying on their keen senses of hearing and smell to make up for their relatively poor eyesight.

Unfortunately, I think industrial unions are deader than a door nail. People in the US have even more of a blind spot where unions are concerned in the US in the current political/business climate.

“College” has become a joke—most education these days is geared toward making money, and “college” to many means a 1 or 2 yr “degree” to learn a trade of some sort or para-professional type of job. That’s the kind of education that was available in high schools around the country when I grew up—technical HS, vocational ed, DE (distributive education) programs were everywhere. Instead, people are going in debt for thousands of dollars in for-profit schools that offer no more than we were taught, and people are no better off.

My own granddaughter took a licensed medical asst course at a “private college” (10 mos) and was $8K in debt (even w/grants), worked 3 yrs for a doctor at $11/hr, and now runs her own pet grooming business. She is still paying off that loan from 9 yrs ago.

“Duvets” are those fake down comforter thingies you pay too much for. The covers are like 2 sheets sewn together with an opening on one side to slide it in, with buttons.

The duvet cover means you don’t have to wash the damn thing since the cover absorbs all the sweat you put out.

I can’t use them—much too hot for this climate, even in winter with the heat set at 68 deg. So I prefer a quilt.

which is that industrial labor continues to get outsourced to places where the wages and workplace protection is lower, until the workers in that place begin to become more prosperous and picky, at which time their jobs get outsourced to yet another country that is less lucky

and this process might continue until every country in the world, no matter how out of the way and godforsaken, has been visited with the industrial revolution and become almost middle class

My duvet is a real one. I’ve had it for years. The cover is absolutely essential to keep it clean.
And yes, it is very toasty; much better than an electric blanket or turning on the heat in the house.
I just used a flannel sheet last night when temps dropped to 41F, but tonight is going to be colder so I figured I’d pull out the duvet early.
It’ll get put back on the shelf in the morning because warm weather returns for a while starting tomorrow.

It’s a good idea. : ) Our heat isn’t on yet and won’t be for weeks. I’m going to see if we get any geo-thermal benefit from this apt being built into the ground on the backside. So far, it’s helped w/the A/C—only an $81 elec bill this mo.

Yes, those also called “feather beds” were used routinely in Britain and Europe and were essential since most homes didn’t have central heat and bedrooms were like the Arctic circle. And in Britain in the past in many places you had to insert coins into a space heater to get any heat at all.

GOP strategist Matt Mackowiak shot back that a ban on abortion was “the law of the land” because Davis had not been successful with her attempt to filibuster it.

“Texas is a pro-life state. We can get into minor issues that are one percent or two percent the problem,” he explained. “But ultimately, Texas is a strong pro-life state. Abbott would love to fight this campaign on that issue alone from here on out but Wendy knows that’s not strategically wise.”

“That’s the first time I’ve heard rape or incest called a ‘minor issue,’” Angle interrupted.

“It’s minor in terms of the percentage of cases. That’s all I’m saying,” Mackowiak replied.

“A victim of rape or incest is not a minor problem,” Angle insisted.

Green eggs and ham. It’s true, it’s true.

Rachel Maddow is having a little bit of a hard time with this military action.

Kinda reminds me of a comment or two this morning that some in the media will start to look for all the wrong. She is digging into a lot of the what happens if things go wrong type of reports.

I agree with investigation of everything so that it is transparent. And I think that is extremely important in fighting today’s terrorist. They are not stupid and they too are hooked to the media via the net. Sometimes military stuff can’t be transparent and also too telegraphed and reporting to fit today’s immediate need makes it real tough.

One thing I would suggest to her is to not be too snarky and cynical and stay as neutral in tone as possible while still asking the same questions and bringing up the same points.

Maybe Rachael needs to stop mentally connecting this campaign to the Bush invasion. I swear some of the left are just Iraq obsessed. So much so they are going blind. Blind to what a threat like ISIS really presents with it’s brutality. the operating assumption becomes that all reports of ISIS brutality must be false because they may be seen as reason to attack.

There were holocaust deniers before the second world war ended. There were those who just turned their heads away at the news that would come out of Germany in the 30’s about the terrible state the Jewish population was in. ISIS does not have the capacity to slaughter enemies real or imagined like the Nazis or the Khmer Rouge. But they do have the willingness and their capacity was growing. These men must be stopped or the whole world will be sorry.

So, let me get something straight. Presidents before Reagan didn’t salute. That includes folks like 5 Star General Dwight David Eisenhower who knew a thing or two about saluting and being saluted. JFK didn’t salute. LBJ didn’t salute. Neither did Nixon, Ford, or Carter.

But Reagan did, even though protocol didn’t require it.

So, now this is the new normal? Presidents now salute. Okay. Fine, but if you’re going to complain about Obama’s salute, then you better accept that other presidents like Bush did much the same thing. They were sloppy in salutes, even Bush, who served in the TANG.

Pointing this out is just factual. That it’s even an issue shows how nonsensical the right wing is. They hate the president with such fury that they’ll pick over anything no matter how insignificant and blow it out of proportion.

Have you noticed that 85% of violent criminals are men? Obviously, men are dangerous. We should lock up all of them, just as a precaution.

I’d swear, to hear some tell it, that the RWNJ’s, Hoft and all the rest want civilians to salute, and veterans to have two votes, and control of untermenschen like me who could have never served due to physical disabilities.

I have avoided people on FB whom I know to be veterans, because not only are they RW (by itself, not a problem), but their friends and families, who are civilians that worship the services to such a degree that I will not only lose the argument, but I’ll also be reminded of my duty to leave “right to leave” my country.

Antisemitism and Islamophobia are indeed two sides of the same coin. A perfect example is here, in my recent comment on CD’s Page about David Duke.

After all the reading & observing I’ve been doing, I’m now fairly well convinced that where one exists, the other is soon to follow (among non-Jews and non-Muslims). Any Muslim or Jew who allies him/herself with groups or individuals who engage in that kind of bigotry is either colossally stupid or so consumed by hatred that they’ve become suicidal, IMO.

You know who probably doesn’t give two shits about this? The two Marines who were “degraded.” Anyhow I finished the Roosevelts documentary and FDR’s sons talking about how nothing they or anyone in the family did satisfying the president’s Republican opponents reminded me of FDR. It was really sad that one of the Roosevelt boys was almost wishing one of them would be KIA to prove their devotion to the cause. Meanwhile today of course, how many elected officials have children in y uniform? Certainly very few of Obama’s right wing detractors.

She’s dissembling on the issue.

“Martha supports the full enforcement of federal laws that are in place to keep guns out of the hands of prohibited persons, including convicted felons (including stalkers), domestic abusers, the mentally ill, and people in the country illegally,” Patrick Ptak, McSally’s campaign spokesman, said according to the Huffington Post. “On the issue of stalking, as a victim of stalking herself, Martha firmly believes convicted stalkers should be prohibited from obtaining firearms in all cases, and claims to the contrary are 100 percent false.”

“Martha supports adding misdemeanor stalking to the list of criminal offenses that would keep dangerous individuals from obtaining guns in other states where stalking can also be a misdemeanor,” he continued.

She still hasn’t reversed her position against ending the private party transfer loophole, which is the primary method by which people legally barred from owning guns acquire them. That was what Giffords called her out on.

Like the evidence in the Brown shooting, I doubt we’ll see the video until the trial, assuming that the grand jury actually hands down an indictment. Until then, we’re left reading about how “damning” it is.

Oleg Atbashian: Before moving to the U.S. in 1994, Atbashian lived in Ukraine where he sometimes worked as a propaganda artist for the old Soviet Union, creating agitprop posters for the local Party Committee in a small town. During that time, Oleg says he “witnessed the transition of Republics of the Soviet Union from corrupt socialism to corrupt kleptocracy.”

So, this morning I see that Dinesh D’Souza still thinks that the Obama Administration was/is out to get conservatives.

He’s a self-admitted convicted felon. After months of claiming he’d fight the charges and was innocent on all grounds, he entered a guilty plea. He’s a felon.

Yet, none of these articles reporting on his comments about conservatives being persecuted headline the fact he’s an admitted and convicted felon.

If they’re going to quote him, the least they should do is highlight it in their headline or lede. He has zero credibility, and yet media outlets are still going to him for comment.

Morning all. A brief drive by before getting down to work.

Some of the over night comments that include Chucky C and the RWNJ complaining about Obama’s salute are just so disappointing. They really show the stupidity that is rife in this country.

My gawd people, have you nothing better to do than bitch about a 1-second salute while the man is deep up to this head in real world issues. And fun thing is, it is my understanding the video of ‘the salute’ was released by the White House. They saw it as fun. I’m wondering if they’d like to take that back? Or, maybe they did it on purpose knowing it would upset the idiots.

And then there is little Chucky. What can be said except he is a reflection of so many others just like him. Full of shit, arrogant about it and yet at the same time clueless about how idiotic he really is. It’s no wonder he got some initial traction as a new journalist wonderboy. People are so ready to jump on the stupid stuff. Junk food. Junk news.

I guess both Chucky’s crap and ‘the salute’ are like shiny fishing lures. Just can’t pass them up, so they bite.

While the idiots worry about Muslims, Terrorists, Illegal aliens, blah people…I worry our biggest issue as a country is their stupidity. Too many dumb basses ready to go mouth-open for the lure.

Oh well…guaranteed stupidity lies ahead. Just another day in America.

Well, the fact that they’re focusing on a coffee cup speaks volumes to the fact that the GOP has nothing. They don’t have any ideas. They don’t have any issues. They don’t even have optics. They’re just flailing about for something to attack the Administration that will help them in November, and nothing is working.

The situation with ISIL and Syria and Iraq isn’t helping, since the Administration is doing pretty much what the GOP was hoping for - going after ISIL on both sides of the Iraq/Syria border - and he’s doing so with Arab coalition partners in addition to France and other NATO forces.

The Obamacare numbers are showing that the GOP lost - and people are actually benefiting across the country whether they realize it or not.

Where the GOP still thinks they have an advantage is on taxes and the economy except all you have to do is point to either Kansas or New Jersey. Those are both GOP-governor states, and KS is an economic disaster since the state chopped the taxes and faces a billion dollar shortfall and will have draconian cuts to balance the budget that no one wants. In NJ, the economy has consistently lagged the nation and unemployment is higher than the national average and Christie has no solution except to plunder the so-called pension lock box to balance the budget because he refuses to raise taxes to cover the shortfall in both the annual budget or the transportation trust fund to do infrastructure across the state.

So today’s right wing talking point is that Obama, the President who received a peace prize from the Nobel committee, is speaking to the UN after launching airstrikes against ISIL and other AQ spinoffs in Syria. They’ll complain that he’s launched attacks against targets in 7 countries without the slightest hint of irony.

Let’s see what those attacks include:

1) Iraq and Afghanistan (continuation of wars started under Bush Administration, but concluded with withdrawals of forces pursuant to failure to complete a SOFA satisfactory to US - namely that US troops wouldn’t be prosecuted in host country courts).
2) Pakistan - this includes the frontier provinces - FATA including Waziristan over which the Pakistani government has little control, and targets included key al Qaeda and Taliban leaders. Among the raids was the successful raid killing Osama bin Laden in Abbotabad.
3) Yemen - attacks included taking out Awlaki.
4) Somalia - attacks hit at al Shabaab and other AQ spinoff/affiliates

A list of key leaders killed by Obama across the Middle East, Eastern Africa, and South Asia. That includes those killed by drones as well as direct forces either on the ground or in airstrikes by manned aircraft.

The nitwits complaining about Obama’s actions are complaining that Obama took out these terrorists? Or that the US is pursing a strategy that is meant to keep the nation safe from foreign threats arising from ISIL, al Qaeda and affiliated groups?

Obama didn’t petition, let alone demand a peace prize. The Nobel committee gave it to him before he became President. I thought it was nonsense back then, and it’s still nonsense today. It’s much like the coffee cup kerfuffle. Much ado over nothing.

Dallas Texas is the only city in the nation who has made a cottage industry out of being the location of a Presidential assassination.
Neither of the other locations - Washington, DC (Lincoln, Garfield), nor Buffalo, NY (McKinley) have monetized this distinction anywhere near the level that Dallas has.

Gee, the twitter followers of Hannity are dense. They blindly follow whatever nonsense he puts out, and ignore facts, logic, or history. I’ve got one guy claiming Obama/US owned Iraq, and that Obama lost it because he was playing golf.

How do you deal with that kind of industrial grade logic.

Ignore the SOFA that Iraq refused to grant. Ignore that Iraq is a sovereign country with a government we recognize as legitimate.

So, then he pivots and complains that Obama is bombing Syria without congressional authorization. Let’s just ignore that Congress (1) isn’t particularly interested in working these days - only 4 working days until Election Day; (2) is perfectly content letting the Administration go to town on ISIL - it’s what the GOP had been demanding; and (3) the Administration has all the authority it needs under the 2001/2003 AUMFs to go after al Qaeda/ISIL because ISIL is a spinoff of the group, and even under the WPA, all the Administration has to do is advise Congress of his actions, which he’s been doing all along.

So, the argument boils down to Obama=bad, even when Obama is doing what the GOP agrees is the right course of action in taking on ISIL.

Forbes deleted this, but it shows just how misogynists and nuts blame the victim. The gravest threat to fraternities is… wait for it… drunk female guests.

A recent incident at MIT’s Lambda Chi Alpha chapter in which a drunk female student apparently danced her way out of a window has, once again, resulted in a clamp-down on all fraternity parties. Thankfully, she seems to be recovering. And while this may appear to be a freak accident, something like this could happen on any campus, at any dorm or fraternity party, wet or dry. Unless and until we address how student drinking culture has evolved in response to the very regulations designed to control it, incidents like this are not going to go away. As recriminations against fraternities mount and panicked college administrators search for an easy out, one factor doesn’t seem to be getting sufficient analysis: drunk female guests.

Before feminist web vigilantes call for my defenestration, I single out female guests for one simple reason. Fraternity alumni boards, working with chapter officers, employ a variety of policies designed to guide and police member behavior. Our own risk management manual exceeds 22 pages. The number of rules and procedures that have to be followed to run a party nowadays would astound anyone over 40. We take the rules very seriously, so much so that brothers who flout these policies can, and will, be asked to move out. But we have very little control over women who walk in the door carrying enough pre-gaming booze in their bellies to render them unconscious before the night is through.

Fraternities across the nation are regularly disbanded on campuses because of hazing, alcohol abuse, deaths, or alcohol related injuries or deaths. The culture of the fraternities encourages binging and excessive consumption of alcohol - by the members and their guests.

But once again, we’ve got someone blaming victims for requiring the need for fraternities to better police themselves to reduce the instances of date rape, sexual assaults, and alcohol-related injuries.

He is also ignoring the fact that these same risk management policies he refers to also cover how to handle attendees who show up already under the influence. It’s roughly the same rules as bars - you don’t serve them and you don’t have to admit them.

The way an increasing number of fraternities (or individual chapters) are dealing with the issue is going dry on their own. Or essentially getting out of the liquor-serving “business” by having events off-site and handled by a 3rd-party. This has a very noticeable effect on the fraternity’s liability insurance costs.

The article is still victim blaming in any case.

The liberal on the other hand is willing to challenge the status quo. Conservatives are afraid of challenging the status quo because they’re content to go with what they know because they fear change. It was like this during the New Deal and Civil Rights era and it’s like that now in the age of Obama.

re: #435 lawhawk

Barack Obama got the Peace Nobel for not being George W Bush. Obama has continued to excel in that area.

True that!
Actually, while most canine owners teach “sit”, “stay”, “shake hands”, MrBWS always teaches ours about food boundaries: “What are you looking at??!!??”
All of our dogs know that they are not allowed to stare at or approach someone else’s food. So, the dogs always make a point of not looking, even when they are oh so tempted.

That training does not work with cats, however…

Yes, that is true.

To the point that I just don’t chase the cats off the table at this point. But since the current two don’t go after human food beyond an initial sniff to see what it is it has not been a problem to date.

Um. No, it wasn’t free. The leash and paw were both wrapped around his right hand/arm. The proper salute is to stand tall, head erect, and the hand/arm is raised sharply to the temple (if a cover is not being worn).

Mike Dewine is worse than a coward, he’s a sleazy little creep.

Mike DeWine Has Serious Conflicts Of Interest In Beavercreek Walmart Shooting Case

The problem starts with Mike DeWine’s daughter, Alice K. DeWine, who is an Assistant Prosecutor with the Greene County Prosecutor’s office…

Mike DeWine appointed Mark Piepmeier, an attorney from the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s office, as special prosecutor in the case. Interestingly, Piepmeier made a campaign donation to DeWine on July 31st, less than a month before he received the appointment. And he had previously donated to the campaign of Mike’s son Pat, a judge in Ohio’s 1st District Court of Appeals…

And then:

DeWine Continues To Control Wal-Mart Shooting Case While Special Prosecutor Vacations In France

Piepmeier who, according to sources familiar with the situation, is on vacation somewhere in France…

While we all wait anxiously for Piepmeier’s return, DeWine seems to be running the show…

Um. While I agree that Malkin is a disingenuous troll who panders to the worst instincts of her knuckle-dragging base (even arch-conservatives I am friendly with roll their eyes about her and Coulter), trotting out the whole “anchor baby” meme to discredit what she says is kinda playing into the whole wingnut world-view. What she says is fair game. Who/what she is, should not be, unless it directly bears upon the matter at hand.

I’ll admit that there are times that I violate this as well. Particularly after I’ve read something awful spewed out by Malkin/Coulter/Gellar, and feel the IQ points leaking out my ears.
