Breitbart “News” Sponsors “National Security Conference” With Crazed Survivalist Group

This should be fantastic
Wingnuts • Views: 31,675

Coming this Monday, a must-see event in Washington DC sponsored by Breitbart “News” — the “National Security Action Summit!” featuring some of America’s foremost thinkfluencers and national security thought leaders, geniuses like Louie “Terror Babies” Gohmert, Michele “Crazy Eyes” Bachmann, Dr. Ben “The Earth is 6000 Years Old” Carson, Andy “Where’s the Birth Certificate?” McCarthy, Dick “Bomb Everything” Cheney, and the always McCarthyesque Sen. Ted Cruz! (In this crowd, being compared to Joltin’ Joe McCarthy is a compliment.)

Starting with a screening of convicted felon Dinesh D’Souza’s latest insane propaganda film.

The conference will take place in Salon III at Washington D.C.’s Marriott Wardman Park Hotel (2660 Woodley Rd NW, Washington, DC 20008) starting at 8:00 am EST with a screening of Dinesh D’Souza’s new documentary, “America: Imagine a World Without Her.”

Among the list of guests will be: former Vice President Dick Cheney, Sen. Ted Cruz, Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer, Dr. Ben Carson, Reps. Michele Bachmann, Louie Gohmert, Trent Franks and Jim Bridenstine, Andy McCarthy and many others.

No word yet on whether some of the other fine experts who write national security columns for Breitbart “News” will be included, leading lights such as Frank Gaffney, Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, to bring their unique perspectives to bear on the issues facing America in the age of ISIS.

(Did I lay it on thick enough, do you think?)

UPDATE at 9/25/14 5:29:30 pm by Charles Johnson

It gets even better; LGF contributor @Gus_802 points out that the co-sponsor of this wacky event, EMPAct America, is a group that thinks America is under threat of EMP (ElectroMagnetic Pulse) attack, and markets all kinds of crazed merchandise to people who want to survive the coming electro-apocalypse. In a word, survivalists.

Here’s their website, at which they market all kinds of bizarre products like the M5—H 32 x 38 Faraday Bag, to protect your iPad when the EMP hits. The conservative movement in this country just gets weirder and weirder.

There has never been an easier way to protect your critical electronics. EMP Bags are designed to protect against damaging EMP current. One cannot predict the size, strength, or proximity of an EMP, but by using our bags, electronics should be protected. It is our highest recommendation that you “nest” items inside multiple layers of protection for best results. This can be achieved by double bagging or storing your EMP bags inside a metal container. More layers = more protection.

There is no sanity nor logic in the quantum derpularity. Both are repelled, and are unable to cross the event horizon.

Lucas DSZ4A. The Prince of Darkness gets a bad rap—his wiring went into vehicles that still run after 45 years. (Lucas parts were in the STSs.)

68 Skip Intro  Sep 25, 2014 5:58:22pm

So how insane have things become in the US?
Let Charles Pierce tell it:

Oklahoma state Rep. Mike Christian tells Der Spiegel that using nitrogen gas for executions is painless, fast, and “cheaper than the bullets you need for the firing squad.” Death by the gas is “the most humane way to die,” says Christian. “You just sit there and a few minutes later, you’re dead,” he says, predicting that the untested execution method would definitely meet Supreme Court standards. For executions with the gas, inmates would either be placed in airtight chambers or have a plastic sack put over their heads.

Take it away, Charles.

That a guy named Christian was talking to Der Spiegel about how humane gassing people to death is is so inherently full of punchlines that it can make you dizzy. Of course, Mister Christian wasn’t always so fastidious.

But wait, there’s more.

Christian-a former Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper who looked into execution methods after the state’s botched execution of inmate Clayton Lockett earlier this year-will present his findings at a hearing today, the Oklahoman reports. But Der Spiegel questions how sincere his desire to find a painless execution method is, noting that after the Lockett execution, he said he didn’t care if executions were carried out by “lethal injection, the guillotine, or if we feed them to lions.”

Knock it out of the park, Charles.

That a guy named Christian is talking about feeding people to lions…oh, forget it.

Usually the problem was that the companies, in an effort to hold down costs (Triumph cars & cycles especially), specified a wiring harness that was about two gauges too thin. I know that was the issue on my ‘77 750 Bonneville that I could never get running right …

73 dholmes32  Sep 25, 2014 6:05:46pm

Back in the day, it would have been a breach of journalistic ethics for a news organization to sponsor an event like this. This, however, is not “the day.” I recall that back in 2009, the Washington Post was going to have “Salons” at the then-publisher’s house. For $250,000, the Post would have allowed lobbyists to mingle with (in addition to administration officials and members of Congress) reporters and editors covering the areas the lobbyists represented. Of course it got out, due to a lobbyist (!) who had a few ethical qualms (!!) and was hastily cancelled.

Breitbart doesn’t have any ethical qualms to speak of.

Devin Sean James, the 32-year-old CEO of a firm running public relations for Ferguson, was himself convicted of shooting an unarmed man in what her characterized as a home invasion 10 years ago.

James said he shot the victim, Rodney Steward, in self defense.

A Shelby County, Tenn., jury convicted him of reckless homicide in 2006. James appealed the conviction.

The appeal was denied and James was incarcerated for 90 days in 2009. His probation period ended in March, he said.

[…]

Ferguson officials knew of James’ conviction before they signed a contract with him, Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III said Thursday.

Knowles said James’ story of coming from a rough background to owning his own firm has been inspiring and has given city officials an invaluable perspective.

“We haven’t put it out there because he’s not the story,” Knowles said.

He said a major complaint in the African-American community is that people with convictions don’t get a second chance.

“In Ferguson, we have done that,” by contracting with James.

James is charging $154.10 per hour for his work, according to city records.

[…]

But the city isn’t paying him.

James’ firm is being compensated by the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership

I was just checking out EMPact America a little while ago. They have a site called homelandthreats.com that appears to be specifically dedicated to the National Security Action Summit II event. Below is a screenshot of the first 25 backlinks to the Homeland Threats site retrieved via backlinkwatch.com. Quite a few familiar domains there—a not unexpected cross-section of wingnuts, racists, isalmophobes, survivalists, gold bugs, etc.

Sites linking to homelandthreats.com

Oh, and that preparehub(.)org domain? It also belongs to EMPact. The registrant of record for both Homeland Threats & PrepareHub is a guy named Ross Howarth (never heard of him before, but according to his bio on the PrepareHub site it looks like he’s pretty active). The registrant of EMPact is the president of the organization, David Bellavia.

I wonder how much googling it would take to find the connections between Howarth & Bellavia and see who else it leads to… Anyway, some other day maybe—not in the mood to waste too much time on wingnuts tonight.

Thing is, you didn’t even really need to buy a commercial dehydrator, because they cook more than actually dehydrating. Alton Brown’s method is dead simple: a box fan and a few pleated cellulose furnace filters.

Ocean’s 11.

Thing is, even in that film, the EMP bomb was pretty large. And for it to have the proper effect, it had to be set virtually next to its target. For the sort of widespread damage that these nutters predict, you’re talking nukes detonated in low orbit. Few countries have that capability and none of them are crazy enough to do that sort of shit intentionally.

No no no. The best way to protect your iPhone from EMP is to stick it in a microwave. It’ll do double duty. Recharge it in a jiffy and protect it from the EMP pulse. You can’t go wrong. You can trust me. /Joe Izuzu

Not that bad an idea, actually. Putting it in a microwave that is, not putting the microwave on, that is. It is a very decent faraday cage for the bulk of the spectrum an EMP emits.

A decently handy person could pluck out the electrical parts out of the microwave and cover the hole(s) it leaves with grounded bolts and washers. Note that it would still need to be connected to a very solid ground point.

A metalworking geek could easily make something bigger, the hardest part actually is the door, it is actually a bit of a PITA to get it RF proof.

And an electronics geek — like me — could put a computer in such an enclosure and run wires which are protected in/out of it, meaning a computer which stays up despite there being an EMP…

Cronyism bearing fruit in Florida?

FSU’s presidential selection major mistake

On Tuesday, the Florida State University Board of Trustees selected state Sen. John Thrasher as the university’s next president.

Thrasher’s selection was not surprising given his extensive and influential political connections.
Thrasher is currently a co-chair of the re-election campaign for Gov. Rick Scott. The governor appointed a significant number of the FSU board members, many of whom have supported Thrasher in his previous political pursuits.

Of the four finalists for the FSU presidency, Thrasher was the only one without significant academic leadership experience. Not only does Thrasher not have the necessary experience to qualify him for FSU’s presidency, he has demonstrated a fundamental lack of respect for academic and scientific research.

During one of his interviews for the position, Thrasher was asked about his views on the theory of evolution.
His answer? “I have a great faith in my life that has guided me in my life in a lot of things I believe in.”

In David Brin’s original novel “The Postman” the only real AI in the world is supposed to have survived the Event because it was in a Faraday Cage. It did but they didn’t have power for too long and … poof. They kept up faking that it still survived and used it as the disinterested authority to direct their community of survivors.

House Speaker Ray Sansom was awarded a $110,000-a-year vice presidency at Northwest Florida State College in 2008 after he secured millions in extra state funds for the college (including a $6 million earmark for an “emergency operations center” that was meant to serve as an airplane hangar for one of Sansom’s major campaign contributors.)

And there was the $152,000 that Brevard Community College paid Sen. Mike Haridopolos back in 2003 to write a textbook-quality “history of Florida politics.” Oddly, only one copy of the great book was ever published — 175 double-spaced typewritten pages that a reporter found secreted in some obscure corner of the college library years later. (Haridopolos, who was elected Senate president despite his ethical lapses, later wheedled himself into a $75,000-a-year part-time teaching job at the University of Florida.)

In 2008, even as Florida International University was cutting 38 positions, shutting down six research centers and eliminating 23 degree programs, the school managed to fund a $69,000 teaching job for former state House Speaker Marco Rubio.

One thing these “EMP!!1” goofies are sometimes pushing is land-based batteries of SM-3 ABMs for defense against the dreaded ‘ship-launched EMP missile’. Which strikes me as silly, since if we want more SM-3 launch platforms the logical move is to refit instead of decommission Ticonderoga-class cruisers. Better to have a mobile defense platform that can also take the offensive and attack hostile vessels.

As I understand it, the sensation of asphyxiation is caused by the buildup of carbon dioxide in the blood. A person in an atmosphere of pure nitrogen (or helium, or argon, or whatever) will simply lose consciousness without any awareness whatsoever. CO2 is being exhaled and does not accumulate in the body.

A plastic bag over the head, on the other hand, will leave the victim recycling increasingly CO2-laden air and is a hideous way to die. But then, capital punishment in general is both barbarous and ineffective, and turns the state into a murderer when they get it wrong (vide Texas.)

Other than the two TD drive, DC’s offense was badly out-of-sync, and the 4 interceptions were a killer. Even worse, the defense was unable to put consistent pressure on Eli Manning. With the O-line improvements the Giants have made this year, the Washington defense couldn’t break through nearly often often enough and that plus a talented bunch of WR and TEs gave Manning plenty of time and lots of targets.

Colorado representative wants generals to quit in protest

Members of Congress have been talking to U.S. generals behind the scenes and urging them to publicly resign “in a blaze of glory” if they disagree with how the White House is handling conflicts in the Middle East, according to U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn of Colorado.

The Republican member of the House Armed Services Committee made the remarks at a Sept. 23 liberty group meeting in the basement of a Colorado Springs bar … following a kilt-wearing contest.

During a question-and-answer portion of the forum, a service member urged Lamborn to work with his congressional colleagues in both parties to “support the generals and the troops in this country despite the fact that there is no leadership from the Muslim Brotherhood in the White House.”

“You know what, I can’t add anything to that, but do let me reassure you on this,” Lamborn said. “A lot of us are talking to the generals behind the scenes, saying, ‘Hey, if you disagree with the policy that the White House has given you, let’s have a resignation.’”

“‘You know, let’s have a public resignation, and state your protest, and go out in a blaze of glory,’” Lamborn continued. “And I haven’t seen that very much, in fact I haven’t seen that at all in years.”

No edits save to add the Wingnut font. BTW, here’s the page for the Dem challenging this turkey. Normally, I don’t argue against a Republican’s reelection; But this year, as in 2012, I am making one exception for a GOP member of the House who I feel should be given the boot.

From what I understand from people at the scene, the Chief was looking over his shoulder before anything happened as if he was either scared, or expected something to happen. Reports from near the Chief that I have seen speak to the police making some sort of movement towards the Chief, and then an altercation taking place, then a larger part of the police force moving in.

I’ve just finished watching episode 6 of The Roosevelts. One thought came to mind: as with Michelle Obama, nothing Eleanor Roosevelt did — no matter how good or admirable or sacrificial — could ever win the hearts of the people who just plain hated her. Eleanor spent weeks traveling across the South Pacific theater and did such a wonderful job that Admiral Halsey retracted his early dismissal of the visit by a “do-gooder.” Yet, when she returned to the States, her enemies castigated her and FDR for wasting taxpayer dollars on a “junket.”

Likewise, Michelle encourages people to eat healthy food and kids to get a good education, and her haters act as if she’s telling everyone to eat babies and memorize Mao’s Little Red Book.

Not the first thing I’ve read about Holder, but I thought I’d look at the NYT Editorial Board’s opinion. I’m reading it and liking it, and then I get to this:

“As the first African-American to serve as the nation’s top law enforcement official, Mr. Holder broke ground the moment he took office. In a position that rarely rewards boldness — and in the face of a frequently hostile Congress — Mr. Holder has continued to stake out strong and laudable legal positions on many of the most contested issues of our time. But his record is marred by the role the Justice Department played in matters of secrecy and national security under his leadership.

You and your fucking Snowden fix NYT, fuck you.

You can dry pumpkin slices.

Drying Pumpkin and Pumpkin Seeds

Wash, peel, and remove fibers and seeds from pumpkin (or Hubbard squash) flesh. Cut into small, thin strips no more than one-inch wide by 1/8-inch thick. Blanch strips over steam for 3 minutes and dip briefly in cold water to stop the blanching action. There is no need to cool to room temperature prior to drying. Drain excess moisture. Dry the strips in an electric dehydrator until brittle.

Pumpkin also makes excellent dried vegetable leather. Purée cooked pumpkin and strain. Add honey and spices, and then dry on a home food dehydrator tray. homefoodpreservation.com.

Drying seeds and roasting seeds are two different processes. To dry, carefully wash pumpkin seeds to remove the clinging fibrous pumpkin tissue. Pumpkin seeds can be dried in the sun, in an electric dehydrator at 115-120°F for 1 to 2 hours, or in an oven on a very low, warm temperature only, for 3 to 4 hours. Stir them frequently to avoid scorching. Dried seeds should not be stored with any moisture left in them.

For more on storing dried vegetables, see recommendations here: uga.edu .

To roast the seeds, take dried pumpkin seeds, toss with oil and/or salt and roast in a preheated oven at 250°F for 10 to 15 minutes.

Reading Martin Gardner’s short stories now. The first one, called “Thang” is extra-short, but sweet:

vintage.failed-dam.org

THE Earth had completed another turn about the sun, whirling
slowly and silently as it always whirled. The East had experi-
enced a record breaking crop of yellow rice and yellow chil-
dren, larger stockpiles of weapons were accumulating in certain
strategic centers, and the sages of the University of Chicago were
uttering words of profound wisdom, when Thang reached down and
picked up the Earth between his thumb and finger.
Thang had been sleeping. When he finally awoke and blinked
his six opulent eyes at the blinding light (for the light of our stars
when viewed in their totality is no thing of dimness) he had become
uncomfortably aware of an empty feeling near the pit of his stomach.
How long he had been sleeping even he did not know exactly, for in
the mind of Thang time is a term of no significance. Although the
ways of Thang are beyond the ways of men, and the thoughts of
Thang are scarcely conceivable by our thoughts; still——stating the
matter roughly and in the language we know——the ways of Thang
are this: When Thang is not asleep, Thang hungers.
After blinking his opulent eyes (in a specific consecutive order
which had long been his habit) and stretching forth a long arm to
sweep aside the closer suns, Thang squinted into the deep. The riper
planets were near the center and usually could be recognized by
surface texture; but frequently Thang had to thump them with his
middle finger. It was some time until he found a piece that suited
him. He picked it up with his right hand and shook off most of the
adhering salty moisture. Other fingers scaled away thin flakes of
bluish ice that had caked on opposite sides. Finally, he dried the ball
completely by rubbing it on his chest.
He bit into it. It was soft and juicy, neither unpleasantly hot nor
freezing to the tongue; and Thang, who always ate the entire planet,
core and all, lay back contentedly, chewing slowly and permitting his
thoughts to dwell idly on trivial matters, when suddenly he felt
himself picked up by the back of the neck.
He was jerked upward and backward by an arm of tremendous
bulk (an arm covered with greyish hair and exuding a foul smell).
Then he was lowered even more rapidly. He looked down in time to
see an enormous mouth——red and gaping and watering around the
edges——then the blackness closed over him with a slurp like a clap of
thunder.
For there are other gods than Thang.

236 lawhawk  Sep 26, 2014 7:28:39am

People in the US screaming that Christians in the US are being persecuted don’t have a single clue about persecution here in the US. You want to talk about persecution, talk to African Americans. Talk to Jews. Talk to Muslims. Talk to Sikhs.

Those are people who were, and are, being persecuted for who they are and/or what they believe in.

Christians aren’t being persecuted because courts are telling some Christians that they can’t impose their beliefs on others. That’s called First Amendment separation of church and state. Establishment of religion and all that.

There is real persecution going on in the US, but Christian persecution isn’t it.

That’s not to say that Christians aren’t being persecuted elsewhere in the world. They are - in places like Africa and parts of the Middle East. That’s not what is happening here in the US, and the more that people complain that Christians are being persecuted in the US the more they look disassociated from reality.
