Mark Levin at #VVS14: Religious Right Voters Are ‘Centrists’

Why can’t everyone be like Mark Levin?

Right wing talk show screamer Mark Levin told the audience of religious fanatics at the Values Voter Summit this morning that they’re “centrists” — because there are loons even farther out than them.

Oh, but those Democrats? They’re all radical leftists!

“They treat us like we’re this fringe,” he said. “You know, I view the political spectrum quite differently. We’re in the middle! You’ve got the radical leftists who’ve taken over the Democratic Party. And then you’ve got this neo-Confederate group out there that really doesn’t believe in the Constitution and keeps talking about secession and so forth. We are traditional conservatives who embrace the Constitution and embrace our heritage and we need to stand up!”

Embrace the Constitution? When did that happen?

Begs the question. The center of what?

embrace our heritage

Sure sounds like a neo-confederate secessionist.

They embrace it all the way up to the 2nd Amendment. After that, it all becomes hazy.

They “embrace the Constitution” except for all the parts they want to change.

So now I guess I’m supposed to believe that Sarah Palin isn’t Trig Palin’s mother? Really? Right wingers really think I believe that, despite the fact that I’ve posted stuff like this?

Levin’s perception of the political spectrum is really important to understand. Most hardcore Right-wingers (and they make up a big portion of the Republican party) don’t believe they are extreme at all, while they perceive center-left people as radical leftist. My mother, a mildly sociopathic randian, says that I’m the most liberal person she knows, I guess because I support moving back to Clinton-era tax rates, universal health care (more for technocratic not ideological reasons) and refuse to engage in down-punching.

Democratic Party

Religious Right
Neo-Confederate Secessionists

See? Center.

Edit: There’s supposed to be a way larger gap between the first two lines.

Levin’s just peddling the old tired “Silent Majority” trope

I was going to say that - the most nutty of my Facebook wingnuts swears he’s ‘not a right-winger’ - even though he spends his days sniping at Obama using links from Freeperville, Weasel Zippers, and a bunch of other hard-core wingnut sites.

I think part of it is that they really don’t want to see themselves as being as fucked up as they know their right wing is, because that would mean having to face up to how fucked up they are, and it would likely crush a lot of those people, being as mentally weak as they are.

Levin is claiming a division that doesn’t exist, because ‘values voters’ want to be nasty, greedy, revanchist assholes without any responsibility for their actions.

Those “neo-confederates” he speaks of make up 95% of his audience.

re: #16 makeitstop

I told my friend on Facebook that posts from those wingnut sites that he is a wingnut and promptly un-friend-ed him. It was a constant barrage of such non-sense that I could not understand how any reasonable person would actually believe.

Fox News has damaged this country is ways that are yet to be seen.

Yes, right in the middle of downtown Crazytown.
