Right Wing Parrots Launch Into Fear-Mongering Bigoted Frenzy Over Oklahoma Workplace Murder

Dependably bigoted
Crime • Views: 41,513

The entire right wing blogosphere is in a frenzy of anti-Muslim bigotry over this awful story out of Oklahoma: Suspect in Co-Worker’s Beheading Was Recently Released From Probation.

A 2010 booking photo of Alton Nolen from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office in Oklahoma.

A man suspected of beheading a woman he worked with and stabbing another was a convicted felon who had been released from probation this year, Oklahoma corrections officials confirmed Thursday.

Alton Nolen, 30, was released from probation in April, earlier than the original 2017 date, said Jerry Massie, a spokesman for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.

Nolen has a string of convictions from 2011, including marijuana possession, escape from detention, assault and battery on a police officer and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, according to records from state corrections officials.

FBI and police in Moore, Okla., are investigating the incident, which occurred at about 4 p.m. Thursday at the Vaughan Foods plant, Sgt. Jeremy Lewis of the Moore Police Department told The Times on Friday. Nolen was shot during the attack and is hospitalized, according to authorities.

Why are the right wing blogs fear-mongering like rabid weasels over this? Because Nolen reportedly is a recent convert to Islam. That’s all it takes for them to label him a “Muslim terrorist” and start screeching about Muslims in general supporting terrorism.

But the story is sadly straightforward — Nolen was fired from his job, and angry about it. He had a long history of criminal behavior, including assault, and he took out his anger on his co-workers like many disgruntled former employees before him. Pointing at Islam as his motivation is nothing but sheer bigotry, especially coming from the crowd that invariably excuses gun violence as “mental illness” when it’s committed by a white person.

And by the way, here’s another detail from this story that seems to be omitted from the right wing’s shrieking fear frenzy:

According to the department’s database, Nolen had “Jesus Christ” tattooed across his chest…

Really? So would it be fair then for me to label this as an act of “Christian terrorism?”

Of course not. And that’s the point.

UPDATE at 9/27/14 1:53:17 pm by Charles Johnson

As an example of the right wing’s sheer bigoted craziness, hate-monger Jim Hoft, the Dumbest Man on the Internet, has posted about this story no fewer than seven times so far:

It’s knee-jerk syndrome again, wingnuts see “Muslim” and “beheading” and automatically deduce “terrorism.”

After all, nobody cuts off another person’s head for any other reason than Islam./////

They fired this guy on a Thursday before work was finished. This is why it’s becoming common practice to fire people after work ends on a Friday, so they have the weekend to cool off.

A perfect example of the reason they want to look past that separation of church and state thing. How can they get their real hate on for other religions if they have to tolerate/allow them?

I retweeted someone about a politician trolling a national anti-abortion group by sending them condoms with his campaign logo on them in response to a fundraising message. Two different Christian groups put me on their daily “prayer list” and started tweeting me prayers for my soul, I had to block dozens of them. :(

BTW, actor Michael Boatman has a book out, Last God Standing. It was recommended by my middle son, and so far, it’s pretty funny. it has so much to piss off those on the right including the fact that when God decides he’s tired of being in charge, he has himself born as a black man.

There’s no ideology—religious or otherwise—that’s immune to being used by fanatics to justify terroristic behavior. It seems to be part of human nature.

As I keep saying, I’ve been reading that book on antisemitism and it has really opened my eyes. In the West people are always talking about Europe and the Reformation & Enlightenment as if it was all very civilized & orderly.

It wasn’t, not by a long shot. (Especially if you were a Jew.)

It was preceded by centuries of ignorance, illiteracy, fanaticism, religious warfare, and the terrorizing of non-Christians (or even other Christians if they belonged to the wrong sect). The bloody & brutal French Revolution that followed the Age of Enlightenment brought us many of our modern notions of democracy, nationalism, etc. The end of the 18th century is fairly recent history considering how long humankind has been around.

Nope. God decides that he wants to have to deal with the same issues that most humans do. He’s got a bit of fat around the waist, and uses an inhaler. His dad was fond of Billy Dee Williams at the time of his birth, but his mom thought that was the name of a pimp, so his full name is Lando Calrissian Darnell Cooper (Darnell was his mom’s dad’s name).

The problem is, the other gods, like Zeus, want to fill in his space, so they occasionally challenge him, requiring him to occasionally go God-like. It’s kind of funny, because part of they premise is that the gods derive their power from their followers, so Yahweh is currently in charge.

I LOL’d. Somewhere in the far reaches of my basement is a picture of me at around age 7 or 8, my brother about 5 yrs younger and my parents, standing in front of our “Am-van”. Yes, we had a white van with the Amway logo on the front and back doors with my parents’ name, the title “direct distributors” and our phone number. The van is white and the logo and all the info is in red and blue. Our garage was converted into a mini distribution center and we had all that stuff loaded in there. We used every product too, nothing else was allowed. It went that way til my Dad lost his job in a lay off when I was in my early teens. The only way my folks made any money off that stuff was by recruiting other people to be distributors too. Once dad had no job, that shit wasn’t cutting it so Amway went away. But god, I HATED that crap.

When people rattle on about how Western Civilization is so much more, well, civilized, I point out that it was within the memory of living man that Western Civilization went to war with itself and killed 60 million people, and that Western Civilization, with its genius for invention, had created the most efficient means of killing large numbers of people all at the same time, and actually used them for just that purpose - and that was the Good Guys.

Population Control, Marauder Style
Published: November 5, 2011

Last week, the United Nations announced that the world’s population had reached seven billion, but there have been times when it headed in the opposite direction, and not in pleasant ways. The savagery of the Mongol conqueror Genghis Khan may have culled the global population by about 11 percent; two bloody upheavals in China — the An Lushan Rebellion and the collapse of the Xin Dynasty — each may have felled about 6 percent of humanity. Those are but 3 of the 100 worst atrocities in history […]

Betty Mason, a Republican donor who is married to a longtime leader of Alabama’s Republican Party, posed the question in a letter she mailed last week to voters in DeKalb County, which covers a rural community in the northeast corner of the state.

“Obama is determined to be a dictator with the executive orders he signs,” she wrote. “He has left the US Constitution in shreds. If Obama decides to run again (against US law) or declares a National Emergency to suspend elections in 2016, what will our Democrat sheriff do? I am concerned he will go along with this lawless president.”“

It was in my lifetime that Orthodox Christians were committing Mass Murder and Ethnic cleansing against 2 Muslim Ethnic groupss in the Balkans, and that Catholic Terrorists were attacking Protestants/anyone who disagreed with them in Ireland.

The far away past of the 1990’s. I remember seeing the news stories about Bosnia on the TV back then. Along with the Khobar bombings a little while later.

That was only 19 years ago for Bosnia. The Troubles in Ireland only just ended 15 years ago.

IIRC, those orthodox christians are now in control of Russia.

Flagged down on a Portland street after a man stole two guitars from a lounge, Police Chief Mike Reese quickly made an arrest two blocks away - and tweeted about it.

Police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson says an assistant chief was with Reese when a security officer stopped him Friday and directed him to nearby Chapman Square. That’s where the suspect was taken into custody.

The guitars were returned to the Bing Lounge and a 52-year-old man was booked into jail for investigation of second-degree theft.

The chief is an avid guitar player and member of The Usual Suspects band.

Getting caught two blocks from the scene of your crime by the Chief of Police has to qualify as an EPIC FAIL. The thief will have a good number of months to reflect on how bad a FAIL his crime was in prison.

If you need a slick ad campaign to tell people you’re human, you’ve already lost.

Also? “We have tattoos! We drive hybrids! We drink lattes!” misses the point. The GOP actively passes laws that fuck over everyone that isn’t an old, white, rich, male evangelical Christian billionaire. All the slick ad campaigns in the world won’t change that.

Doesn’t work, since wingnuts like semi-auto rifles and those didn’t exist in 1850.

The New York Times is actually one of the better news outlets in existence (it took this conservative years to accept that, but I have done so). but like every newspaper, they have to get retail sales, sell print and digital subscriptions, and sell ad space if they want to stay in business.

Running scare stories like this is part of how media outlets draw attention to themselves. The NYT has been doing this sort of thing for more than a hundred years.

Post Edited.

It’s also worth noting that another story the right-wing blogs are going crazy over — the report that Maj. re: #115 Roger S

“Inspired by ISIS?” Who knows? Maybe; beheadings have been all over the news lately, so maybe he was copycatting what he saw on TV. But “terroristic?” Not even remotely. He was a disgruntled ex-employee with a violent criminal record, and he took out his anger on his co-workers. That’s not “terrorism,” it’s crime.
