Pamela Geller’s Latest Anti-Muslim Ads Featuring Beheaded Journalist James Foley Are Pulled

Foley’s parents were disgusted and appalled
Wingnuts • Views: 35,716

The always disgusting hate group leader Pamela Geller has suffered a setback in her campaign to demonize all Muslims, as the family of James Foley (one of the journalists murdered by ISIS) strongly objects to Geller’s use of their son’s image in her ugly NYC subway advertisements, forcing her to pull those ads: Anti-Islamic Ads Depicting American Journalist James Foley Moments Before Death Pulled in NYC.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - A group running a series of anti-Islamic ads in New York City’s transit system is pulling an ad that shows James Foley with the masked militant who killed him.

The ad, which depicts Foley moments before he is beheaded, is being yanked after criticism from the American journalist’s family.

The ads are paid for by the American Freedom Defense Initiative run by anti-Islam blogger Pamela Geller, whose attorney said the Foley family was notified that the ads were being pulled.

Attorney David Yerushalmi said he wrote their lawyer that “Geller understands and feels intimately the pain” they are suffering.

And that of course, is a pathetically obvious lie; Geller fully intended to exploit the image of their son to spread her hateful agenda, and she obviously did not care about anyone’s pain or suffering. This is what Geller and her cronies do.

British tabloid The Daily Mail has more details:

In his letter, the lawyer asked on behalf of James Foley’s family to withdraw the ad and stop using it.

‘Having lived in and reported from communities in which nearly everyone as of Muslim faith, he had great respect for the religion and those who practiced it.

‘The advertisement you are preparing to run seems to convey the message that ordinary practitioners of Islam are a dangerous threat.

‘This message is entirely inconsistent with Mr Foley’s reporting and his beliefs.’

Mr Rowan concluded his letter by warning the organization that using James Foley’s image to draw funding and attention to the AFDI will cause his family ‘profound distress.’

It’s hard out there being a hate group…

2 HappyWarrior  Sep 29, 2014 2:22:40pm

If she really felt the pain they were feeling and suffering, she wouldn’t have used their murdered son’s death photos to push an agenda. I am glad she backed off but she clearly doesn’t have any empathy for Foley’s family.

I imagine she only backed off because Foley’s death, as the recent casus belli for our invading Syria, means she’d bring too much negative publicity upon herself if she defied the family’s wishes or found herself subject to a lawsuit filed by them. Otherwise she probably would have flipped them off and kept the ads out there.

Think how stupid things are going to get by Friday if people are already proposing Allen West as Secret Service director.

“…In this role, a true leader, not a bureaucrat, is needed. Someone like Florida congressman and retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Allen West would be perfect for the role. West has successfully demonstrated that he possesses the leadership skills of a combat officer as well as managerial and diplomatic skills of a congressman, exactly the traits needed in the next director. Highly competent and beholden to no one in the Secret Service, he would be a superb director.”

What I find sad about Pam is as a Jewish woman she doesn’t seem to realize that the same tactics she and her allies use against Muslims are the same that were used against Jews throughout history. Really she’s just rewriting the old Anti-Semitic playbook that we saw in Russia at the turn of the 19th century but replacing Jew with Muslim. That’s her biggest tragedy. I don’t want to come off as if I am saying “She’s Jewish, she should know better” but really she is really engaging in some terrible shit.

First off, I doubt Allen West would even want that job, that guy would be furious at having to call President Obama boss. Secondly, yeah put a torturer in charge of the Secret Service. Maybe next we can put a horse racing commissioner in charge of FEMA. Oh wait, we did that? My bad.

Also, their social conservatism is right in line with ISIS’s ideology. Christian right wingers hate ISIS because it’s Muslim, but otherwise for them it’s like looking into a funhouse mirror reflection of themselves. More barbaric yes, but essentially the same image simply stretched a bit. The only reason that people like this go to places like Uganda to propagate their death to gays legislative agenda is that they can’t manage to accomplish it here.

Right, pretty much and they have admitted as such that their problem with ISIS is more with what ISIS’s religion is more so than ISIS’ ideology.

The face to face is supposed to be a more technical grilling which can be hit or miss for me, sometimes my brain just freezes and that ends up costing me. Hoping it won’t be that bad. Had one interview I did once where they asked me to write a function on a white board that returned whether or not a number was prime. My brain froze and I couldn’t write one.

Just wish the interview was earlier this week. Would love to nail it and be able to give my 2 weeks.

I agree wholeheartedly. I never understood it. The best you will get is the most basic piece of code one can write because the more complex stuff takes time and consideration. On top of that, sure you can write something complex but with no way to test you can’t be 100% certain it will even work. God knows I’ve written code that SHOULD work only to find out it doesn’t.

It was a trap IMO but they weren’t impressed when I couldn’t write it. What can I say, brain froze. But give me a set of specs for a real world issue and application and I can program the hell out of it.

I never went to college so I don’t have the formal “beat it into your head ad-nauseum” training but I can make things work (sometimes against the odds) and will work my butt off if need be to accomplish a given task.

int i = 1;

The husband has coding questions as part of his process.

Part of it is to discover if you can translate ideas into code. He’s not looking for perfect code - but you do lose points if after he comments there are mistakes, he has to give you clues on where to find them. If you find and fix them yourself, it’s fine.

From his point of view, the job you are being hired to do is writing code. If you can’t do a simple problem in the interview (it’s not designed to be a gotcha), he doesn’t particularly want to hold your hand for the next 6 months while you come up to speed. He doesn’t dictate language and you can use library functions as long as you can explain what it’s returning - and if you sound like you’re making that up, he’ll ask you to implement it.

I had to write code on paper for exams in the few classes I’ve taken so it wasn’t that different.

Haha, I know, dumb question.

It’s worse than that he was so into the birther crap that he claim Breitbart was part of the coverup

Johnson revealed that early on Andrew Breitbart hired him to disprove birther claims, to show that birthers are lying and Obama is eligible for the presidency. Johnson, an accomplished investigative journalist, engaged in extensive research and found that Taitz and others are correct, that birther claims are true, that Obama is indeed a fraud and using all bogus IDs. Johnson went back to Breitbart and other editors of breitbart.com advising them that birther claims are 100% correct and they should write about it. breitbart.com editors refused to write about it as they were afraid of persecutions by the IRS and other government agencies.

So, Johnson confirmed at a public meeting that breitbart.com, which fashions itself as a political dissident publication, was as complicit in the cover up of the biggest fraud in the US history, as the other main stream media publications, high ranking officials and a number of judges.

I’m evil for looking forward to the day when all of the fracking states just fall into a giant sinkhole and disappear. I don’t have to worry about it because nothing is downstream in MN. We’re digging up silica sand like crazy and causing our own problems (not as bad a Walker’s WI), but I don’t think we’re turning our bedrock into mush here yet.

Are Daniel Pipes and his foundation backers of Geller?

Harris Zafar:

“…Accustomed to providing responses to substantive attacks against Islam, I found it challenging to determine the appropriate manner in which to address the attacks levied against Islam by Geller, as her work is mostly outrageous and irrational. She does not purport to be a scholar of Islam, nor does she possess academic or experiential credentials that provide any unique insight into Islam. Her self-education about Muslims began after 9/11, when she “felt guilty that I didn’t know who had attacked my country.” Deceived by the false premise that Islam attacked this great nation on 9/11, Geller searched for reasons to loathe the Islamic faith, seeking education from those most antagonistic of Islam, such as Bat Ye’or (pseudonym for Gisèle Littman, a Jewish-Egyptian French writer who imputes Christian and Jewish suffering to the theological beliefs of Islam), Ibn Warraq (pseudonym for a Pakistani author well known for writing about leaving Islam) and Daniel Pipes (American author who extensively criticizes Islam but whom Geller eventually rejected due to his belief in the existence of a moderate form of Islam).

“…Her claims are so bizarre that one struggles to understand whether they are worthy of a response. Indeed, one can understand why Charles Johnson, who runs the blog Little Green Footballs, where Geller used to write, said about her: “That would be Ms. Geller. She has a very long record of absolute lunacy, mixed with bigotry and racism and I am far from the only person to point this out.”

Remember that recent, corporate strong arm tactic in WI, about the mining company now evidently owning the WI governor and getting its way for a northern WI mining operation?

Well, the world market is showing just how myopic the Governor and his mining cronies are:

Iron Ore Heads for Record Run of Quarterly Losses as Glut Builds

[…] The iron ore market is in the midst of a transition without precedent in recent commodity history, with a battle for survival between miners, according to Macquarie Group Ltd. A property slump and tight credit conditions restricted demand growth in China.

[…]

Iron ore will remain weak for a sustained period as supply exceeds demand and China’s economy slows, according to Tom Albanese, former head of Rio Tinto Group. High-cost producers are facing a so-called pain point at prices of about $80 a ton, Albanese, chief executive officer of London-based Vedanta Resources Plc, said in an interview in Singapore yesterday.

The worldwide surplus will increase from 52 million tons this year to 163 million tons in 2015, according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc. […]

The reality is that iron and associated metals are so common that mining them is really now only for those parts of the world that can pay the lowest wages worldwide.

That’s apparently what Wisconsin’s governor wants for his people.

OT a bit, but I must pimp the young journalists of inewsource. I think they are funded by the local San Diego PBS station. They have done some great investigative reporting, but today started a series on

Deciding When a Life is No Longer Worth Living

Rafaela, 55, is severely brain injured. For the past four years, she has been kept alive with a feeding tube in her stomach and a breathing tube in her throat. She can’t walk or talk. It’s unlikely she knows who or where she is.
She is one of 4,000 men, women and children kept alive with machines in special wards in California’s nursing homes. (SS - imagine the number across the country)

On the books they’re called subacute units. But among some doctors, they’re known as “vent farms,” shorthand for the ventilators that keep so many of the residents breathing.

It is a gripping moral subject. I will do a page once the series is done, but want to share it.

AKA Butterflying the chicken. That just doesn’t sound as cool.

A trick I use is cook it on a broiler pan, I spray the broiler rack with Pam so the bird doesn’t stick, I leave it in the oven while it heats up, so the chicken goes on the good hot pan to start. That way it gets to cook from both sides. I’ve got a friend who uses a cast iron pan in the oven with a small metal cooling rack on the inside to get the chicken up from any drippings. Sooooo Goood.

The white evangelical tribe is, itself, post-evangelical (cont)

Again, this partisan identification of evangelicalism with the Republican Party is theologically significant. When white evangelicals answer the question “Who do we say that we are?” with “Republicans,” they will inevitably also end up answering Jesus’ question in Matthew’s Gospel — “Who do you say that I am?” — the same way. And upon that rock they will build their church.

The man does a wonderful job of articulating what’s so wrong with the intersection of politics and faith in this country.

Hm, when it comes to gay rights, I think there’d be a split; there are quite a few African American churches that are gay friendly (particularly in urban areas). I suspect that MLK Jr. would use his influence to tamp down the differences and have the movement present a united front.

On Islamophobia, though….they’d be united against it. It’s uncomfortably close in tactics to Jim Crow (and there were, I think, all sorts of alliances with black Islamic churches).

Yeah.

King withdrew his support for the protest and removed Rustin from his staff.

King wasn’t like the Black pastors you met with. One of his closest, most trusted advisors was Bayard Rustin. They were so close that Strom Thurmond attempted to slander King by suggesting the two were lovers, introducing an FBI surveillance photograph of Rustin talking to King while King was taking a bath. Speaking of Strom Thurmond, I can’t think of anyone in recent Senate history who has his own history white washed so much. I mean we all heard about Robert Byrd’s past and understandably so but Thurmond’s past as the standard bearer for a party whose sole purpose was to uphold segregation, the man with the longest filibuster on record )to protest civil rights), and other racism has been pretty much forgotten.

Mix till everything’s wet, then kneed 10 times. Roll out on sheet,

Most of the reasons for not making marital rape a crime have lost force with time,” he laments.

Of late a fanciful meme has taken root among the “progressive” left. It’s one that imagines ours as a patriarchal “rape culture,” which fosters an environment wherein women are systematically raped with impunity (especially on our nation’scollege campuses).

Apparently, the solution is for chicks to pierce and tattoo themselves, declare “slut pride” and parade nude in “slut walks” across the globe. But that’s an outlier.

I finally get it. Posner is the “rape culture.”

“But,” continues Posner - I didn’t know there were any “buts” when it comes to rape - “But some rapists derive extra pleasure from the fact that the woman has not consented. For these rapists, there is no market substitute … and it could be argued therefore that, for them, rape is not a purely coercive transfer and should not be punished if the pleasure to the rapist (as measured by what he would be willing to pay - though not to the victim - for the right to rape) exceeds the victim’s physical and emotional pain. There are practical objections [No, really? Practical objections to rape?] … but the fact that any sort of rape license is even thinkable [what kind of bigoted rape-o-phobe would suggest otherwise?] … is a limitation on the usefulness of that theory.

When you strike out the dumbshittery you can see that Posner is quite plainly pointing out the goddamned horrifying inadequacy of a purely cold, economic, quantitative comparison analysis, pitting the pleasure / benefit to the rapist vs. the victim’s pain. I’m quite certain there are entire sections about the intrinsic rights of a person to control how their own body is used that are being deliberately left out here.

Posner has also, it should be noted, changed his mind drastically on gay marriage.

Of interest to lawyers, judges, legislators, legal academics, and others concerned with public policy about sex, the book also sets forth a moder- ately libertarian argument about the efficacy of the social control of private sexual behavior. Posner concludes on the basis of “cost-benefit analysis” (rather than principle) that we should, for the most part, abandon all attempts to steer or control purely private, consensual sexual behavior through the criminal law. However, for a range of self-styled “pragmatic” reasons, Posner concludes that we can and should do little else to create a social world more tolerant and accepting of nonheterosexual and nonmari- tal life styles Thus, while the author advocates decriminalization of homosexual and heterosexual sodomy, for example, he counsels against lifting the ban on homosexuals in the military4 and refuses to endorse extending the option of state-recognized marriage to homosexual couples.5 All of these projects-the socio-historical survey of sexuality, the socio- biological theory of sex, and the libertarian-pragmatic arguments for mod- est and, for the most part, uncontroversial legal reform-are sure to attract many interested readers and, because of the judicial and academic prominence of the author, large numbers of critics from a variety of legal and nonlegal disciplines as well.

Also, his opinion on rape back then was kind of free markety and weird, but this shows he was in no way advocating a rape license.

I will comment only briefly on the second “liberal-sounding” implication of Posner’s conception of the rationality of individual sexual choice be-cause I have addressed it in detail elsewhere.7 ° From a Posnerian perspec-
tive, our sex, like our labor, our capital, or any other asset, should be
understood as a commodity to be traded in social or intimate markets in
exchange for some reciprocal bundle of goods-money, fidelity, pleasure-
toward the personal and societal end of maximizing wealth. This “commodification” theory of sex, in turn, implies a particular conception
of the wrongness of rape: to take the asset of sex by force instead of by a consensual transaction short-circuits the standard market mechanism-a face-to-face consensual bargain-for ensuring that wealth is maximized, and does so in circumstances in which there are no transaction costs that might justify a bypass of the market. A rapist, Posner insists, is essentially a “sex thief’; 71 rape is the theft of one’s sexuality. Rape is therefore wrong, and criminal, for the same reason that any theft of property-any nonconsensual transfer of assets without transaction costs that might jus- tify bypassing the market-is wrong and criminal. Whatever might have been believed in the past, or presently is believed by feminists or moralists, the wrongness of rape inheres in the property right of each individual to his or her own body and his or her own sexual services, and in the gain in wealth and efficiency that comes from permitting each individual sovereignpower to decide how that commodity (like any commodity) might be put to use.

So Posner, in his rush to reduce everything about sexuality down to a “morally neutral” market simplism, did kind of either miss or ignore the inherent violence and control aspects of rape, but he does quite clearly define it as ALWAYS FUCKING WRONG.

I trust Anderson on this one; he’s one of the best directors out there working today. His films are pretty much solid Academy Award material. I was turned onto him with Boogie Nights, which remains - in my opinion - one of the best American films of the last 30 or 40 years.

Certainly states the obvious…before dissolving into an act of fellatio that, were it done on any more public a forum, would be considered obscene in the extreme. To call it “gushing” would be an understatement.

Seriously, what is the GOP field next year?

Perry’s under indictment, while Walker and Christie are under the same gun. Nobody seems to take Jeb Bush seriously as a candidate, nor does the talk of Mitt Romney running again seem to be more than the desperation of an establishment bereft of more acceptable alternatives. Aqua Budda is a joke, if only because he has to compromise everything he supposedly believes to be seen as electable. And while there are some 2012 “also-rans” who will probably pop up again (Santorum & Gingrich top the list), there’s nobody out there really beating down their doors for another run.

Yep, it’s why Ben Carson is also so popular with the base, he’s somebody with no political history to compare to the shit he’s selling to anybody who will listen. If he runs, I don’t think he’ll come close to the nomination. But I do think he will be seen as a top VP choice.

The main problem Cruz faces is that there’s just no way he can soften his position on gay rights or abortion. The most he can probably do is stop calling birth control pills “abortifacients,” but it’s not like he’s going to actually reverse that stance either. He’s so massively socially conservative that general election voters will be overwhelmingly turned off, which means in a two way race he’ll still pull down the 35% or so of GOP dead enders and maybe another 5 to 10 percent on top of that at the absolute most. Minorities, gays and most women will run screaming from the guy.

On top of everything else he just as a very weird and off putting appearance, like Liberace mated with Joseph McCarthy.

That’s because it’s become a part of their ideology, their dogma, that the only reason the Holocaust happened is that the people marched off to the camps didn’t have guns to defend themselves.

Meanwhile, if you ask any historian worth his salt, he’ll tell you the reason the Jews didn’t fight in the beginning because they were convinced that, as badly hated as they were, the people of Germany and the occupied territories would never condone mass murder. By the time they realized what was going on, they were already crammed into cattle cars and on their way to the camps.

Obama has issued fewer pardons than any other president in recent history - that includes Ford, Carter, and GHWB.

Only 61 people have been pardoned by Obama. So, he’s used this exclusive power of the President less than any of the recent presidents.

You have to go back to Zachary Taylor, John Adams and George Washington to find presidents who issued fewer pardons (not counting Harrison and Garfield, who issued no pardons due to dying in office before they could issue one).

Just gullible. Obama reads his PDB every day, he doesn’t have an in-person briefing every day. Each president has handled his intelligence briefings differently. Marc Thiessen, the author of the article that sparked this latest nutrage, is a former G.W. Bush speechwriter. Thiessen glosses over the fact that his ex-boss’s response to his in-person briefing of October 6, 2001 (“Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.”) was to tell the briefer “All right. You’ve covered your ass, now,” and then go fishing.

Yup. So unless the President has a binge of pardons/commutations between now and 2017, he’s on pace to have the fewest in more than a century.

Note that the President can only commute or pardon on federal charges. So, one area where he might get considerable support for is if the President issues pardons or commutes the sentences of low level drug offenders - particularly marijuana users.

He got a 15 yard penalty on the play, since he was in violation of the letter of the law that going to one’s knees is “excessive celebration”, but I can’t see the difference between that and “Tebowing”. NFL looked a bit tone-deaf with that.

Mornin’ Lizards.

So can someone in a hazmat suit wade into the swamps on the right and see how much hysteria there is over Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Husain Abdullah kneeling in Muslim prayer after he intercepted Tom Brady and took it back for a TD last night?

He got a 15 yard penalty on the play, since he was in violation of the letter of the law that going to one’s knees is “excessive celebration”, but I can’t see the difference between that and “Tebowing”. NFL looked a bit tone-deaf with that.

Yeah I am not understanding the difference between Tebowing and what Abdullah did either. Anyhow, as a longtime hater of Brady and the Patriots, I loved seeing that happen.

Something of this implication is fixed in the book’s dictatorial tone, which is much its most striking feature. Out of a lifetime of reading, I can recall no other book in which a tone of overriding arrogance was so implacably sustained. Its shrillness is without reprieve. Its dogmatism is without appeal. In addition, the mind which finds this tone natural to it shares other characteristics of its type. 1) It consistently mistakes raw force for strength, and the rawer the force, the more reverent the posture of the mind before it.

It seems to me that Chaffets wouldn’t mind setting up R2D2s at the WH perimeter and turn any fence jumpers into gazpacho.

Youtube Video

Using nonlethal means to subdue those that make it across the fence line is admirable and should be preferred. The problem is that the supposed layers of defense once the guy got onto the grounds didn’t materialize. He was able to make it deep inside the White House.

There were unlocked doors. There were officers who weren’t in proper positions. All of these things need to be reviewed and resolved.

What’s also lost on the hearings is that the President has been threatened and targeted more than most other presidents in recent history. The Secret Service has done a great job keeping the president safe, but it’s come with more than a fair share of luck (as in the most recent instances). They can’t rely on luck and need to improve security at the WH.

But that doesn’t mean throwing up another fence outside the perimeter.

It means fixing what happened inside. Perhaps it means adjusting the fence itself to make it more difficult to climb over. Even then, there’s a balancing act.

re: #405 Wendell Zurkowitz (slave to the waffle light)

Why do we expect NFL referees to be any less thuggish, bigoted and hypocritical than the league they are working for?

They say it was the slide, not the prayer. Like a slide is excessive.

“I got a little too excited,” Abdullah said. “I don’t think it was because of the actual prostration that I got the penalty. I think it was because of the slide.”

That’s precisely the explanation that Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he received from the game officials. They had no issue with the prayer, Reid said, only the celebratory slide.

Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1(d) of the NFL rule book states that “players are prohibited from engaging in any celebrations or demonstrations while on the ground.”

The so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) intends to inaugurate its first diplomatic mission in Istanbul in order to provide consular services for all who wish to join the extremist group in Iraq, reported Turkish daily Aydinlik as saying.

Abu-Omar Al-Tunisi, the ISIS de facto head of foreign relations issued a statement, saying that the Islamic Caliphate is determined to launch its first diplomatic mission in a friendly and Muslim country. He further noted that the ISIS hopes that the bilateral relations with Ankara will witness more developments under the aegis of newly-elected president Recep Tayyip Erdoᇺn.

Fleeing because of high taxes; or is it because the weather here sucks in the Winter and people want to retire someplace sunny.

How soon before we start seeing massive moves from the Southwest and Southeast because of extreme drought and lack of water to keep all those golf courses and developments in deserts sustained? Or that another round of hurricanes will hit the Southeast and convince people that it’s not a good place to build along coasts? Or as those folks move to those parts of the country, they seek to replicate the level of services found in the Northeast and find that the people living there don’t want it (whether its mass transit, education, or infrastructure).

Honestly, the whole thing with pro athletes thanking God kind of annoys me, regardless of which faith the athlete subscribes to. You’re fabulously wealthy and play a child’s game. I would hope a benevolent God would have more important things like war, famine, disease, and natural disasters to tend to than your ability to catch a touchdown or hit a home run.

It’s true that people will move because of taxes but Drudge of course ignores that people want their new states to invest in things like education. Virginia’s been successful not because of low taxes but because we’ve had governors like Warner and Kaine who actually invested in our people.

Mostly taxes. I’ve met so many people in Virginia that moved down there because of taxes. I also met quite a few people here in Tennessee that left for the same reason. I would love to move back to NJ but the taxes are ridiculous there.

Well Virginia also has some of the better schools in the nation too. Lots of work due to the same federal government that Matty Drudge despises too.

I was unaware of this bird. It is the national bird of Israel, according to Wikipedia.

[Embedded content]

The hoopoe (hud-hud in Arabic) is very popular in the Mideast and is even specifically mentioned in the Qur’an in relation to Solomon (and Sheba):

27:16 And Solomon was David’s heir. He said: “O ye people! We have been taught the speech of birds, and on us has been bestowed (a little) of all things: this is indeed Grace manifest (from God.)”

27:17 And before Solomon were marshalled his hosts,- of Jinns and men and birds, and they were all kept in order and ranks.

27:18 At length, when they came to a (lowly) valley of ants, one of the ants said: “O ye ants, get into your habitations, lest Solomon and his hosts crush you (under foot) without knowing it.”

27:19 So he smiled, amused at her speech; and he said: “O my Lord! so order me that I may be grateful for Thy favours, which thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may work the righteousness that will please Thee: And admit me, by Thy Grace, to the ranks of Thy righteous Servants.”

27:20 And he took a muster of the Birds; and he said: “Why is it I see not the Hoopoe? Or is he among the absentees?

27:21 “I will certainly punish him with a severe penalty, or execute him, unless he bring me a clear reason (for absence).”

27:22 But the Hoopoe tarried not far: he (came up and) said: “I have compassed (territory) which thou hast not compassed, and I have come to thee from Saba with tidings true.

27:23 “I found (there) a woman ruling over them and provided with every requisite; and she has a magnificent throne.

I think it’s also mentioned in a couple of other verses, but I’m not 100% sure and couldn’t tell you which ones.

The hoopoe also plays a major role in the famous Persian poem The Conference of the Birds by Attar. It’s a delightful, enchanting story about a group of birds (all of whom represent humans with their faults) who set out on a journey to find the legendary Simorgh (a symbol of God in this tale). The hoopoe, who is considered to be the wisest among them, is their leader/guide.

I didn’t know it was the national bird of Israel, but it doesn’t surprise me. Good choice! ;-)

Precisely and that’s the real reason she quit on her job. I did say it here in the election two years ago but I actually have some more grudging respect for Bachmann than Palin since Bachmann actually puts herself up for election. Yes, she’s legitimately insane but she also actually runs for office. Palin? She’s been on Fox News since she decided to quit on her state to become a reality star /right wing folk hero. She’s a fraud.

She also knows that running for election again would put actual scrutiny back on them & even she is smart enough to know she needs to avoid that.

Door should have an electro-magnetic strike plate with a touch screen pad controlling it mounted adjacent to the door. The ones the Secret Service and FBI use now scramble the location of the digits after each use so you can’t tell which digits to hit by looking for the fingerprints.

If we go to the initial story which appears to be associated with a Turkish paper, it appears all of this is based on claims from an “alleged ISIS website” (and oh man, the passive voice in the article designed to say “we’re just saying what we’ve heard, man”):

The website, which appears to be belong to the consulate, indicates that visa applications can be sent to [a gmail address] and the official address is stated in Çankaya district of Ankara.

It is also claimed on the website that those who get injured during a war deserves treatment, no matter at which side they are.

They just love making up strawmen. Truth is, Hitler actually used the Germ Theory to justify a lot of his actions, and nobody says that’s evil.

By way of contrast, Hitler admired Robert Koch, an important figure in the discovery of the germ theory of disease, and compared his campaigns against the Jews and other “undesirables” to a type of social or national disinfection. But this is completely irrelevant to the universal medical/scientific acceptance of germ theory.

However, it seems that there is at least some evidence to suggest that, far from embracing Darwin’s work and social Darwinism, the Nazis tried to ban them. The 1935 edition of the official Nazi journal for lending libraries, Die Bücherei, contains a list of banned books. One of the entries in this edition of Die Bücherei is “Writings of a philosophical and social nature whose content deals with the false scientific enlightenment of primitive Darwinism and Monism (Häckel)”.[1] Rational Wiki

Duggar should ask the numerous Jewish German scientists who were persecuted by the Nazis if it was Darwinan theory that led to the Holocaust. The fact of the matter is the Nazis were able to perfect the Anti-Semitism that had been in Europe for generations before them and it was Anti-Semitism believed by many a fundamentalist like Duggar and her family. I think LGF’s Jewish community would agree with me here when I say that things like the blood libel or blaming Jews for the death of Christ had a much bigger impact than Darwin’s theories on the Holocaust and incidents of mass violence against Jews.

I believe that many right-wingers have something that can only be described as “Holocaust Envy” which means, they want to claim the status of victimhood and the tasty martyr cookies that come with being a “Holocaust Victim” but without any of the actual genocide and suffering.

True. Also, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion were written by a creationist - like that clueless idiot.

Do not suppose for a moment that these statements are empty words: think carefully of the successes we arranged for Darwinism, Marxism, Nietzsche-ism. To us Jews, at any rate, it should be plain to see what a disintegrating importance these directives have had upon the minds of the GOYIM.

I believe that many right-wingers have something that can only be described as “Holocaust Envy” which means, they want to claim the status of victimhood and the tasty martyr cookies that come with being a “Holocaust Victim” but without any of the actual genocide and suffering.

They co-opt the Holocaust for their pet causes like Gun Control, Abortion, and Homophobia.

I find it utterly offensive that they do that. It’s disgusting to me. I had family that died in the Nazi years too. It disgusts me to see people who can’t handle their views being criticized to some of the worst mass murder in history.

Orthodox theology, however, remained Anti-Semitic. An example of religion based Anti-Semitism, The Way of the Pilgrim, a very popular and influential late nineteenth century Orthodox spiritual book. Donald Grayston writes that the spiritual contained many Anti-Semitic passages that Christian perceptions of Jews. The most blatant is of the Christian pilgrim protagonist visiting a Jewish inn owner telling of his father who as a young man was an avowed “enemy of Christians” and rabbinical student who mocked and desecrated a Christian skull that he found in a cemetery. The young man was then haunted by the ghost of the skull and so haunted was he that he converted to Christianity. The narrative in the story reflects Christian perceptions of Jews hating Christianity and in this case even resorting to desecrating skulls. Citing the same spiritual, Grayston criticizes the writer for describing Jewish criticisms of Christian theology as “gossip” or “chit-chat” adding that this was even sadder given the writer of The Pilgrim’s Tale was the son of a Jewish convert to Christianity. Russian Christians can be summarized by the reactions of their leaders to pogroms and their writings about Judaism saw Judaism as a threat to their religious faith and saw the Jewish people as evil villains. Religion played a key part in developing Russian Anti-Semitism but it was far from the only factor

Blaming Darwin deflects attention from all the people—not just Nazis and Germans, but their allies—who were down with anti-Semitic violence because they had a long cultural tradition of pogroms explicitly motivated by European Christian’s tradition of anti-Semitism.

I mean, NSDAP wasn’t exactly coherent in its larger worldview. You had mystics and materialists butting elbows even in the top elbows, and that dissonance applies down to their deepest ideas about racism.

Because a lot of people wont upgrade to Win8, they have heard too many bad things about it. So now they are bringing out Win10 early next year with GUI features that are more like Win7 to try to get folks to upgrade.

Precisely. I think a lot of Christians are in denial about how rampant Anti-Semitism was in Christianity throughout the centuries before the Holocaust. What the Nazis were able to do was modernize and perfect almost machine like the Anti-Semitism that had been there for ages. And conservatives will never admit but the worst anti-semitism in Europe was firmly on the right and what’s more is many rightists blamed Jews for Marxism, socialism, and liberalism. There is no nation in Europe that has an unsoiled record on Anti-Semitism. It was a problem from the British Isles to the steppes of Russia and everywhere in between.

The Anti-Semitism wasn’t just European though. It was over here in the US too. It was present when we turned back Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany. It was there when Jews were accused of “stirring up negroes” in the Civil Rights Movement. And it’s definitely still there when people like Pat Robertson say that Ariel Sharon having a stroke was divine punishment for not doign what the Bible says.

I don’t know, for some reason they are calling the next release 10 instead of 9 though, haven’t heard any explanation why yet.

Funny thing is… I was reading an article a few days ago on what it might be called… All of the documentation kept refering to “Windows X” and the assumption was that was a placeholder for what would be the actual name.

Who knows?

It seems here in GA we have a serial dog burner(s). They’re using some sort of chemical to pour on dogs and then tie them to trees to die. So far it’s happened 6 times in the last few months, with the most recent one being found yesterday. A female Rottweiler who will be headed to a rescue group in New York to finish her rehab after she undergoes another surgery.

I don’t know what happens to break someone to the point they think hurting animals is amusing, but I do know those people are a danger to the rest of us, not just our pets.
